The comment above is actually a spam, but the link it gives is in fact a rather pleasing ebook for kids, at Amazon, which costs $2.99. I have had a quick look at it, and it seemed a good ebook, so I am leaving the comment and putting the link here for your convenience.

EBooks are nothing more than virtual books published on a digital medium. Savvy users of the internet use free eBooks to great effect to spread information about any online business.

@ Elf.
Thanks for your comment, glad that you agree with me. Particularly on the point of stripping this amazing "new" DRM system.

It all annoys me!

If this really is what it says--page at front and back, and a bit of metadata--that's easy enough to add to epubs and mobi files, and would be usable on any device that reads them. In the case of a lost ereader or hacked computer or stolen laptop that results in the books being released onto the net, the buyer would be subject to very likely arbitrary penalties. (Account closed, possibly a lawsuit but probably not--too expensive--more likely just shutting of the account, and possibly public listing of the name on a "known pirates" site or other penalties subject to legal action--if the victim can afford to pursue it.)

That kind of warning-and-metadata can be removed in thirty seconds in Sigil. In two minutes by someone who knows how to unzip & rezip epubs. I'm not sure if it would be removed by Calibre or not; it'd probably depend on the individual's settings. However, using Calibre to convert to a format that doesn't have such metadata options--maybe RTF--and converting back, would remove it.

Again, a fine way to penalize the average user who shares a file with her sister in another state and doesn't know her sister's kid will release it on facebook, while ignoring the fact that serious bulk distributors will easily evade detection. Malicious ones will be able to insert data pointing at someone else.
