Although Fighter King is the 3rd book published, it's chronologically, the first book in the Fighter Queen saga and the best one yet. Bowers gets better with every book.

Like A Vow to Sophia and The Fighter Queen, this book is a real page turner. Oliver Lincoln III's journey from spoiled rich kid to adulthood is riveting and filled with mis-adventures that land him in the middle of an inter-planetary war.

A great story for action junkies like me. Loved every word. If you want to get started on the Fighter Queen series, this is the first book you should read.

I recommend it wholeheartedly.

hmm... maybe someone should just hack the kindle, and build a GPL linux kernal that bypasses all the DRM and security and make it publicly available so both Amazon and the Authors Guild can feel the financial backlash of angry consumers being forced to turn hacker.

I bought the kindle BECAUSE I have a learning disability and have difficulty reading without audio assistance. So I downloaded an academic quality book which is normally too dense for me to read. I go to turn on the text-to-speech feature, and it simply not an option because it is turned off. Now I'm fucking mad. I PAID $10 for nothing but electrons, no hard copy here, and I want the feature available to me that cost me an additional $300 in the form of a kindle. If I want to hear the author read his book I'd buy the audio, but there is no audio book for this author. The real problem for me is that I NEED to see the word and HEAR a voice reading to comprehend the material. And no, I'm not going to read aloud in a public place.
So while all the talk about the authors guild and their rights, how about me as a person with a problem trying to work a way around it and willing to pay some money to make it happen only to find out that I've been DEFRAUDED by both AMAZON and the Author. Hmm... where does that place me in the complexity of this situation.
If the authors want more money, they should publish with amazon, and if amazon is sending the title as an ebook, the should maybe just keep a buck or two for the cost service, and give the rest $8.00 to the author. Because HONESTLY I've already pre-paid AMAZON for this feature and service. It is ME the consumer with a learning difficulty who is being both defrauded and slighted.
Perhaps amazon would be happier if I sent their shitty kindle back to them. And the author with his intangible ebook returned. This is absolutely unethical, foul, and filthy.
Fuck you Amazon and the Authors Guild, and Richard Tarnas specifically. May your greed be repaid 10,000 fold by the universe.

Another winner for Jim Dameron.

This is a great follow-on to "The Man of Signs".

Authentically set in 14th century England, the book follows a young girl (who now owns the Reliquary), an engaging musician, and their problems caused by the upheaval of the Peasants' Revolt.

Unlike The Man of Signs, The Song of the Cross gets off to a quick start (with a minor battle of all things). The characters are engaging and the story kept my attention.

I can't wait for his next book in the series. It'll be interesting to see where the Reliquary pops up next.

McCallister is a great main character. Sympathetic, brave, dedicated, and flawed. The central theme of this story is "Mac"s addiction to the electronic interface that allows him to become one with the spacecraft he flies. His struggle with the "link", personal problems, and fear of being "grounded" play out against a war with an enemy so alien that no common ground with humanity is possible.

Bruce Davis always delivers an engaging yarn, each one different than the others, and this one deserves the "Novel of the Year" award.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and had a tough time putting it down when I ran out of "reading time" for the day (It takes me several days to read a book).

A great way to learn about the energy crisis.

Johnson strips away a lot of the B.S. that surrounds this problems (especially the political rhetoric) and gets down to "brass tacks" (sorry about the cliche'). He fails to bow to the blandishments of either side of the political argument and precedes directly to show us what's available, why each will or will not work, what it will take to "distribute" the energy to the consumer, and makes some recommendations based on what's politically possible while remaining economically sound.

He contends that if the country follows his recommendations, we can solve the energy problem in 10 years.

The first in a new series, "The Land Behind the Veil". The story of a young girl growing up on a poor farm may seem boring until the reader begins to get the idea that there's more to "Gran" and her granddaughter than meets the eye.

And sure enough, strange things start happening fairly early in the story. The ending is quite unexpected, but makes a great setup for the next book in the series.

A nice book for reading to your youngster when putting him to bed. Girls might like the story as well, even though the main character is a boy.

Engaging. I haven't tested it on any of my great grandkids yet, but I'll report back when I get the opportunity (they live two states away).

A slow start, but overall a great book. Dameron has an excellent grasp of the history of the Picts in ancient Scotland and weaves them artfully into his story of evangelism and self-discovery.

The story hooked me on the series and I grabbed up the second book when it came out.
