The Annual General Meeting of the Educational Computing Association of Western Australia (Inc) will be held on Friday the 4th of December 2009 at Churchlands Senior High School in Memory Place, Churchlands, beginning at 5.30 pm.

At the meeting we will be electing the members of the 2010 ECAWA Committee. There are 15 positions up for election, including President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, LOGIN Editor, Primary Coordinator, Secondary Coordinator, Tertiary Coordinator, and seven General Committee Members.

ECAWA is your organisation. If you would like more input into decisions, initiatives and the running of the association, then a place on the committee could be for you.

To nominate yourself or another ECAWA member please complete the nomination form, including the signatures, and email or post a copy to the Secretary, to be received by the 27th of November. It is essential that the nominee sign the form to indicate that they are willing to accept the nomination.

You do not have to be present at the AGM to be elected to the committee.

There are also other opportunities to contribute to the association. Please consider working as part of a LOGIN subcommittee, assisting either the Primary or Secondary Coordinator to arrange PD/PL events, joining the Conference Committee or organising a Special Interest Group.

Will you be the representative of your school or organisation and be voting at the AGM?

The ECAWA Rules gives voting rights to individual members and to one representative member from each Organisational or School membership.

In order for Organisational or School members to vote we need to ascertain who that representative member is. If you are attending the Annual General Meeting and will be voting on behalf of your school or organisation, please ensure the appropriate form is completed and signed, and return it to the Secretary before the beginning of the AGM.

Non voting members, including Student Members and additional members attached to Organisational or School Members, are welcome and are encouraged to attend the meeting.

After the AGM members are invited stay a while longer to share pizza and wine and informal discussion.

The ICT emphasis for this workshop will be on learning to use Photoshop CS4 more effectively, and will suit beginners as well as people who may have some experience with one of the previous versions of Photoshop.

A parallel strand will include presentations about incorporating the use of Learning Federation learning objects and Excel in classroom activities, and explore the use of low cost or free software and Web 2 tools in the classroom.

Morning tea and coffee with pastries and muffins will be available from 9.30 am and the programme will begin at 10.00 am. Registration includes morning tea and lunch.

An acknowledgement will be sent to participants when their registration form is received.

Value Adding Quest

ABC3byme promo competition
The ABC wants primary school-aged kids in Australia to create a 15-30 second video promo or online banner that shows why ABC3 is the channel all Australian kids will want to watch. Scratch is the world’s easiest programming language. Created by the ‘Lifelong Kindergarten’ group at MIT, Scratch follows in the tradition of Logo and Lego Mindstorms by creating a free tool for students to learn 21st century skills: creativity, collaboration, computation and mathematics. 

In this hands-on session, participants will learn how Scratch can be used to teach students mathematical concepts in a context they love: game creation.
