Guess what..? Thanks to a HUGELY generous holiday gift, Eclectica's sound quality has just been elevated to the next level of awesome! XD I've just gotten a Blue brand, Silver Edition "Yeti" condenser microphone (which in levels of quality is out of this WORLD compared to the mic I was originally using), and I am SO EXCITED to share the news with you! XD

..So what does that mean for the show, exactly..? Well, it means that whenever you hear my voice on-air, the quality of the sound in the voiceovers will be much, much improved. XD Woohoo! *does a happy dance* Below you'll find a super-quick recording to give you guys an idea of what's to come (not much mixing, leveling, etc.), but I hope you'll agree that the quality of Eclectica's production from here on out has just been improved by leaps & bounds. ^_^

I hope you all had a marvelous New Year and holiday season, and that you come back soon and often to hear what's in store for Eclectica in the year to come! :) -And of course, as always; if you have requests for the show, comments, questions, suggestions, or ideas, that I hear from you either on Eclectica's Facebook page, in a comment somewhere here, or via my e-mail, at djselchie@gmail.com. ^_^

Thank you guys so much for listening, visiting and supporting the show, and brightest blessings for the New Year!
As a last little holiday gift from Eclectica to all of you out there, here's one final episode for 2013. With the hopes of brightening up the season for dancers and non-dancers alike, I've compiled a selection of holiday music both chill and boisterous, traditional and unique that I hope you'll love. ^_^

Thanks to Ariel Publicity & Podsafe Music Network for the vast majority of music here, and special thanks to Kiva and Jonah Knight, who gave their kind permission for me to play their music for you here. Thank you all, so much. Without you and resources like you, I would have nothing to spin for the good listeners out there, so thank you, thank you and thank you for your help in making this podcast possible. ♥♥
Even though I've been sick, I wanted to put a show out for y'all, in honor of my successful move across the country, my utilities, internet and cable all being active & in working order (at last! XD), and in celebration of the great new place in which I find myself (with its marvelous bellydance community! :D). With the move and everything going on -before- it, it's just been FAR too long since we've had a new show, so.. now that I finally can, I thought I'd whip up a joyous, up-tempo new ep of Eclectica. ^_^ (With plans of doing lots more on a far more regular basis in the coming months. ^_^)

Featuring music from SoundClick.com, Ioda PormoNet and SoundCloud.com, whether you dance in the office, on the way to work, in a classroom, on stage or just in your livingroom, this show is sure to inspire a shimmy or two- even if you're not a regular dancer. ^_^ Full of happiness, excitement for today, gratitude for yesterday and hope for the future yet to come, this show is FULL of lively, energetic music. Plus, with various dance styles in mind, it's also packed with diverse cultural influences and musical styles, so I hope you'll join in the fun I had in making this. ^_^

Sadly, he passed this year due to pancreatic cancer, but his memory, through his artistry and pure, captivating music, will live on. Thank you for your song, Mr. Phyfe. You were the first and only real bard I think I've ever met, and you inspire me to this day. ♥♥♥

On a brighter note, I'd also like to give a shout-out to Madlenka, Bagoas, Mavi, Nina Amaya, and my other friends who're currently attending the Darbukastani Independence Days celebration this weekend. :D I wish I could be with you all, but my hips are shimmying in time with your music and my spirit is with y'all, wherever we each may be. :) ♥♥♥
♥

This episode baaaarely happened, so I'm SUPER stoked that it's finally HERE! XD (First I was having one HECK of a time w/choosing what songs should be played and where, and then we had three, count 'em, THREE power outages on the day the show was supposed to be done, so I was goin' NUTS! *lol*) But it's alll good now, and I hope you like the results. :) (Which are alll work and kid safe, btw. ^_^)

For those of you who like the more traditional style of bellydance music, this show is for YOU. (Though there should be something for everyone here, thanks to the styles and artists featured. :D So even if you're a Tribal goddess or Fusion fanatic, or if ya just prefer your music to have a more modern twist, there's something in here for you, too. :))

This episode has something of a time-traveling theme, as it takes you from medieval and renaissance-inspired music from around the world, to "classical" Middle Eastern music (created in the mid-to-late 20th century), all the way up to discoteque tunes you might hear in the Middle East today. :) We've got a little Corvus Corax, some of the great Oum Kalthoum, as well as a touch of the stars, courtesy of Googoosh, Hengameh & Haifa Wehbe. :) But no matter WHAT era the music is from, I hope it -all- inspires you, uplifts you, and makes you wanna dance (even if it's just in your mind, in your car, in your office, or in front of the stove while cookin' dinner ;)). ♥

Yours Forever In Song,

In this first, brand new episode, the show is ALL about bellydance! In fact, this show is dedicated to all the amazing dancers in my life, as well as every single amazing dancer out there; male or female, big or small, young, old, able-bodied or otherwise, who is moved and inspired by this incredible, empowering artform. ^_^ To every single one of you; you guys ROCK. This is for you. ♥♥♥ ^_^

-And in honor of that artform (which has basically, blessedly, eaten my brains ;)) I've structured this first show a little like a bellydance class- or a multi-faceted Middle Eastern Dance show. :D So.. without further ado- here goes! On with the show! ^_^

♥

The first portion is stuff to get your ears intrigued, your blood pumping, and your body eager to MOVE. ^_^

The second portion is more directly inspired by Eastern and Middle Eastern music, (which some associate more with Cabaret-style bellydance).

And the last segment offers music with a more modern twist, but still touches of various types of Eastern influences. (Think more Tribal & Fusion inspired work. :))

Each part of the show was designed to flow well from one section to another (so you may notice a little blending or overlap of styles at the edges of each segment at times). But no matter what style or section of the show you're listening to, I hope it ALL makes you wanna dance- move, shimmy & strut- even if you've never taken a SINGLE bellydance class. ;D (And if you like what you hear, srsly, go out and BUY this stuff from the musicians. Every little bit helps to support new and interesting music to be made by these awesome and often unsung artisans of audio! :D)

Of course future episodes of Eclectica will have all KINDS of other music interspersed within, but as bellydance has become such a HUGE part of my life, you'll find a good many of the shows from here on out featuring music that'll make you wanna shake your money-maker in all KINDS of marvelous ways.. ;D -And to those who fear the show will -just- be Middle Eastern from now on, FEAR NOT! Songs of -all types- make me want to get up and dance- be they fast, slow, Jazz, Folk, Blues, Rock, Pop, and on and on, so whether a show is bellydance-inspired or not, Eclectica will -still- be Eclectic- and feature all KINDS of great music. ^_^

And of course, this is just the start of the coolness I have in store for future episodes of Eclectica, so if you like what you hear, please, let me hear from you! ^_^ Feedback from listeners means SO MUCH to us li'l indie podcasters (as it lets us know that our music is being heard), so every little bit of interaction counts more than you could possibly know. :) (And since we appreciate it so much, we're also more likely to get back to you with responses, which is not something always experienced w/the bigger, more fancy types of entertainment media. ;)) Plus, as this is also a proving ground to see whether or not the show will continue (and if so, in what direction), the more feedback I get from you, the better the show will likely be! :D (Plus- the more likely that the show will be tailored to you. ;D) So if you have any comments, questions, thoughts, ideas, suggestions, or concerns, please drop on by and leave a comment- either here, on Eclectica's Facebook page, or via my e-mail addy, at; djselchie @ gmail . com. (W/spaces omitted, of course. ;)) ^_^

Thank you so much to -everyone- who's helped and supported Eclectica in previous years, as well as in this new incarnation, and thank all of YOU out there who're listening! Plus, extra-special thanks go out to Deirdre Flint, Beats Antique, LYNX, Pentaphobe, DJ Tomasc and Dead Can Dance's Brendan Perry, who kindly gave their exclusive permissions for their music to be played here on Eclectica. (To each and EVERY one of you guys; thank you thank you thank you thank you- SO MUCH! *beams*) And to ALL of you; my bands and my listeners, supporters, signal-boosters, onlookers and all; I love y'all. I hope that you dig what you hear, and brightest of blessings. ^_^
Due to lack of active listenership (aside from my dearest friends family, who've supported me all the way; and to whom I'm tremendously grateful), Eclectica has been put on the proverbial back-burner. The time & involvement each episode requires in direct comparison to the receipt & exposure the show seems to be getting is grossly disproportionate, so the Selchie is gonna take a little break for a while. (In part, to gather better resources for a potential re-release of the show; but also to focus on other things; re-prioritize, pursue other avenues of creativity, and recoop from a variety of situations.)

However, if you do listen and would still like the show to continue, please let me hear from you. :) Folks can still reach me via djselchie@gmail.com, & I will still be looking for music off and on, with the hope of getting Eclectica back into production at some point.
But for now (and perhaps indefinitely), this little waterling needs to delve into her wee bag of tricks, and see if she can't come out with something even better for a potential next time.

Thanks to those of you who showed me-and the podcast-your limitless devotion, boundless enthusiasm and unending support. Mehopes that if the show is to reincarnate, that it returns bigger, better, brighter, (more regularly), and is even more meaningful than its previous incarnations. ;)

First off, let me please humbly apologize for the HUGE delay that this episode has weathered. Thank you so much for your patience! I truly hope you find the show well worth the wait. :):)

Whether you hear this on St. Paddy's itself or tune in during any other time of the year, I hope this day brings nothing but joy to you and yours, and that you enjoy this slightly super-sized episode as much as I do. (And that's after listening to it a million times during its arrangement, so that's saying something! ;D)

This show is chock-full of fantastic music, made by some unbelievably skilled & gifted musicians!

Some of this is work I've collected over many, many years (through places like myriad renaissance festivals, Thistle & Shamrock shows, and a good few Celtic festivals), while other pieces were acquired more recently; explicitly for play on this show. Celtic music has been a part of my heart for as long as I can remember, and I hope its soulfulness, passion and playfulness always will. :)

Finding and playing the best of pod-safe Celtic music for you seems a superb way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day (musically speaking)- but for me, this music can make any day of the year an occasion. Plus, what a gift! I have found more phenomenal music in searching for pieces for this podcast than I can count! What a delight to've found sublime chanteuses like Maria Dunn, Beth Patterson and the ladies of Maidens IV!! And what a blessing to be able to share such personal favorites as The Rogues & Lothlorien, as well as a more recent favorite; the enthralling, enchanting power of Omnia!

Each of these pieces hold their own magic and beauty, whether it be sweet & lilting or raucous and irreverent. And don't just relegate this lovely brand of tune-age to St. Paddy's! Celtic music goes beautifully at pubs, renaissance fairs, faerie-themed events, barn dances, and all kinds of events where merry-making is called for- even funerals on occasion- so keep it in mind the next time you go out with family & friends!

Whether you're Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Manx or Scots-Irish (like yours truly), if you're English, German, Italian, Asian, Greek, Indian, American, Black Irish or French, may the luck of the Irish always be with you, and may you find your own pot of gold in pleasures big and small on this clover-filled, merrily-jigging day! (Just be careful with the Guinness, Harp Lager & Goldschläger, please! We want you around to celebrate the NEXT St. Paddy's, too! ;D)

Now let me pick my fiddle back up again, and have a merry St. Pat's!! (Or whatever day you choose to celebrate it on. ;))

Welcome one and all! There's little preamble needed for this episode, other than that I hope you enjoy this little musical tribute to mothers of all shapes, types, sorts & sizes (and hopefully that you do so with your mother. :)) There is some blues and a mother-daughter song put in here to send a "hello" out to my own mother, but there are also songs about Mother Earth and other types of mothers, as every mama is special. ^_^ May all of you have a splendid Mother's Day, and a big "thank you" to all the mothers out there, as well as all the fantastic people (male & female) who've done their own shares (if not moreso) of mothering in my life. :)

Lastly, I wanted to honour mothers who have gone past, using an amazing poem I found on Oona McOuat's home page. For me, this piece not only honours my mother (as well as others I look up to) but also all of the sweet, strong, amazing & invaluable people who've helped shape me into being who I am; and who, in one way or another, have been mothers in my life. (Be they spiritual, familial, social, or otherwise.)

Here's to the strong ladies; the role models past, present, and future! (Even if it's to be a matter of Self someday. ;)) From Mother Earth to the ants that traverse Her, thanks be to the Divine Feminine in all her Forms. ^_^

It's hard to find the path now.
Because I was following her.
I was following her ways without knowing
And now she is gone…
Gone, with all her wisdom…
No longer up ahead.
No more silver streams of healing things she said.
She can't tell me again.
I have listened for the last time.
Now I have to own it.
Now I have to know it.
Now I have to carry, and pass it on.
Remember it.
Look after it.
She can't tell me again.
It's hard to find the path now…
But I must search amongst the roots.
Because I know that…
I can sense that…
Someone is following me.
Waiting for her wisdom.

Greetings everyone! Unfortunately I'm sick as crud atm, and that's delayed the production on the Celtic/St. Paddy's Day show. :( Please forgive me for this delay, but know that as soon as I no longer sound as if I've been gargling gravel and can finish a sentence w/o coughing, I'll get back to recording my voiceover portions of the podcast; so it will be live and active and ready to go! I have a HUGE show planned for you, chock -full- of great music and stupendous musicians that I truly hope you'll agree to be worth the wait. ^_^ (Plus, they'll have less talking than has been heard in previous eps, so you can just get right to the music!)

Until then, please enjoy this one silly selection from Brobdingnagian Bardsman Marc Gunn, as well as this snippet's lovely background music by Poitin! (Whose name I was not even about to try mangling on air. ;)) Both are graciously made available by Marc and the many wonderful bands at CelticMp3s.com, and I can't wait to play some of my favorites from there selection of FREE MUSIC (that's right, you heard me) on this next, upcoming Celtic/St. Paddy's Day show. ^_^

Happy harvest season, everybody!

In honor of so much faerie-influence being present in my life, I've centered the next few shows on the world of Faerie, and I really hope you enjoy the music featured! It's a delight for me to share this music with you, and I hope you find just as much magic in it as I do. :)

Whether you're into celebrating Hallowe'en, or prefer to just sit around the table with your family and friends for a good old Thanksgiving dinner, I hope this latest episode of Eclectica finds you well! For "many longs" as my grandmother would say, I've had the next few episodes in the works; so instead of blabbing all over the place here, I'll simply let the next (and long-time coming) episode of Eclectica speak for itself! Here's to a marvelous Turkey Day, more things to be thankful for than you could ever possibly count, and an All Hallows Eve that's nothing but pure magic!
What can I improve? What's been under-covered or over-done? Is there a theme or a style of music you'd like to hear? Is there something you'd like me to focus more or less on? Twahk ta me, twahk ta me! ;D

I've been pondering a few different themes for upcoming shows, n' I'd really love to get some feedback. :) How about a show all about featuring exclusively up-tempo, up-beat, Dance/Techno/Rave/Trance/House and/or EBM music? Or perchance something darker or heavier in style? I know I've got a few friends who really dig harder rock, and I've been looking about n' finding a few pieces that would really fit that Metallica-inspired, Grunge &/or Punk rock theme. ^_^

How about Spring-themed music? Something a little Pagan, w/talk of spring holidays, satyrs & Wiccan, old Celtic, Nature & seasonal inspirations, beliefs and practices? What about a show focused entirely on mythological or Fantasy creatures; like faeries, dragons, merfolk, etc.? (I could probably do a whole show each on the fae in one ep. and merfolk in another... ;D)

So what do you think? So many inspirations, so many potential directions to go! :D:D

Hope to hear from you all soon! I've been sitting on this episode for a bit; trying to decide whether or not to publish it as-it was when I first "finished" it, on the night of its creation. Since my microphone woes have not quiiite yet been resolved (though a remedy is fast approaching on the horizon- with the help of UPS ;)), it occurred to me to try something new for a change, and put a little twist in the mix. What exactly? Well, I thought I might let my screen reader speak for me this time, as our temporary show announcer! ^_^ I thought it'd be something neat, new and unique, you know?

But in the end, I decided to go with the advice of a more seasoned podcaster. Therefore, in lieu of letting Jorgan the Electronic Voice Announcer speak up for me (to save you all from having to bear with my cruddy microphone), I chose to re-produce it, w/my own (hopefully pleasing & endearingly oddball) voice. :)

As for the rest of the show's content; a couple of weeks ago I got a "bee in my bonnet" to suddenly make an impromptu, relatively short podcast centered around all of these great bits of music that have not (as yet) fit into any particular show or theme on Eclectica. Therefore, they're the show's "anomalies" as it were. :) -This is NOT so say that these pieces or bands are weird or bizarre or freakish in any negative sense of the words. Not one bit. These artists & their music all rock considerably (otherwise, why the heck would I feature them here??). They are all just so good, their music could go just about anywhere. And thus, mehopes you see my problem. ;)

But I'll let the music speak to you for itself. :)

As always, if you have any thoughts or ideas you might like to relay to me regarding the show, I'd love to hear from you; my rockin' public. :D You can always feel free to contact me (via my new e-mail addy; djselchie@gmail.com) about programming, artists whom you might like to hear featured on Eclectica, etc., or for any other reason if you wish. And musicians, bands, recording artists etc. are (again, as per usual) most welcome to submit their music for potential use on the show. :)

Aaaanyhoo..! All that being said, on to the music!!
I truly hope you enjoy what you hear. ^_^

Hugs to All,
What exactly? Well, I thought I might let my screen reader speak for me this time, as our temporary show announcer! ^_^ I thought it'd be something neat, new and unique, you know? But in the end, I decided to go with the advice of a more seasoned podcaster. Therefore, in lieu of letting Jorgan the Electronic Voice Announcer speak up for me (to save you all from having to bear with my cruddy microphone), I chose to re-produce it, w/my own (hopefully pleasing & endearingly oddball) voice. :) As for the rest of the show's content; a couple of weeks ago I got a "bee in my bonnet" to suddenly make an impromptu, relatively short podcast centered around all of these great bits of music that have not (as yet) fit into any particular show or theme on Eclectica. And thus, mehopes you see my problem. ;) But I'll let the music speak to you for itself. :) As always, if you have any thoughts or ideas you might like to relay to me regarding the show, I'd love to hear from you; my rockin' public. :) Aaaanyhoo..! All that being said, on to the music!! I truly hope you enjoy what you hear. ^_^ Hugs to All, DJ Selchie Track List 1. Metro Station - California 2. Shanghai Restoration Project - Preface 3. The Silent Treatment - The Secret (Jamie) 4.
From now on, if you'd like to contact Eclectica's hostess & resident creatrix (the wondrously bizarre miss DJ Selchie), you can do so via a brand new e-mail address!

djselchie@gmail.com

Wytherwiere@hotmail.com was just too long, complex n' hard to spell, so in order to facilitate greater hostess-listener interaction, a new gmail account has been created!!
The new e-mail account is already live (up & working), and the old one will be for at least a few weeks, just in case. But from here on out, if you want to get in touch w/Eclectica's host, you can reach her w/your ideas, comments, constructive critiques, tips and other information (such as music submissions) at djselchie@gmail.com..! ... Woot!

Plus, since Google gives every new e-mail account a BlogSpot account to boot (aren't they nice?), you can also find Eclectica's new companion site @

djselchie.blogspot.com!

"What's there" you ask? Easy! That's where you'll find a little bit about your hostess, a few links to places like Eclectica's home page and one or two other related pages, aaaand (here's the best part) all the music that would be played on Eclectica, if time, artist permissions, and copyright laws allowed. :):) ^_^ (And some might, in future! ;D)

If there's a song out there that tickles your fair hostess's fancy, you'll more than likely hear it on Blip. (Whether that be in the "played" section, or to arrive there sometime in future. ;)) -So, since we all know that a certain, unnamed someone has mad-crazy tastes that lie all over the map, don't forget to keep your eyes and ears open over there; for -all kinds- of fun, crazy, catchy, heartfelt & engaging music!! The BlogSpot page for DJ Selchie is predominantly designed to get the word out better about the show, and to disperse DJ Selchie's station on Blip, (which in turn was meant to put greater focus on Eclectica.. ;)- I know.. sneaky!), so like life it comes back around into one big, interconnecting circle. :) I hope you enjoy what you encounter there, and that if you do, you'll drop a line! (Just cast your thoughts into the tidepool at the new e-mail address listed above, into one of the comment boxes here, or in your own blip or response @ DJ Selchie's Blip.fm radio station. :)
Thank you so much for your time & attention, and we now return you to your regularly scheduled internet. ;D
Cheers and Ciaos, Fellow Surfers!
