Math-U-See Shape Builders {FREE Download}

As many of you know we use the Math-U-See curriculum and LOVE IT! Our preschooler always wants to “do school” just like her big sister and that means that she wants to use her big sisters math manipulatives too! So I created some pages for her to use to build shapes with her Math-U-See blocks!

These pages can be printed out and laminated or can be placed in a page protector and the student can just build right onto the sheet. I tried to use the size block that corresponds with the number of sides on the shape. For example the triangle uses the pink-3 block and the hexagon uses the blue-5 blocks. Some of these shapes may require more than one set of blocks. But if you only have one set of blocks, this is the perfect time to teach your toddler addition without them even knowing it! Show them (or have them show you) how to use other blocks together to reach the desired block length. You can print out the colored outlines or black & white outlines to increase difficulty. You can also have your preschooler color in the blocks before they build.

This is a great way for younger students to become familiar with the blocks while they are learning their shapes!

Recipe: Crockpot O’ Gold

I have been using my crockpot (slow cooker) a lot lately, since the new baby doesn’t let me get much done! I have one recipe that is my crockpot go-to meal. I threw it together one day after trying to find a way to get more cabbage into our diet. It is very simple, flexible and virtually impossible to mess up! Since it is comparable to an Irish meal and St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner I decided to call it, Crockpot O’ Gold!

Crockpot O’ Gold

Fits a 3 Quart Crockpot

Ingredients

4 Yukon Gold Potatoes
1 Yellow Onion (sliced)
2 Cups Shredded Cabbage or Sauerkraut
1 Package Maple Apple Sausage Links (we use turkey sausage)
1 Cup Apple Juice (we us organic with no sweeteners)

Directions

Wash and quarter potatoes, place in crockpot.
Place onion on top of potatoes.
Shred cabbage if needed and place on top of the potatoes.
Place sausage on top of veggies.
Pour apple juice over veggies & sausage.
Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.

TIP: You can use whatever you have on hand and this recipe will still turn out great!

I buy cabbage from our local CSA in the summer, shred it and freeze it. I just plop the frozen cabbage in on top of the potatoes along with frozen sausage and it still cooks wonderfully!

You can also use whatever potatoes you have on hand. As you can see in the picture, this particular time we used Idaho baking potatoes. I think Yukon Gold work best but we have also used red potatoes with no problems!

Add whatever veggies you want! If I don’t have onion, I simply leave it out. I have also added garlic and carrots to this dish with great results. Just remember to put all veggies in the bottom with juice so they will cook thoroughly.

We like to use the Al Fresco Turkey Sausage as it is the best option we can find in our area without all the junk! We have also used turkey smoked sausage as well as Italian turkey sausage. Use what flavors fit your family.

This recipe serves 4. However, my family is a meat and potatoes family and I have to double this recipe for 2 adults and 2 small children! My husband then has a little leftover that he can take to work for lunch. Remember if you double this recipes you will need a larger crockpot.
