Edinboro Film Series lights up Thursday nights

EDINBORO – Weekends cannot get here soon enough for most college students, but a Thursday event has helped eased the transition.

The Edinboro Film Series screens movies for college students and the public at 8:30 p.m. every other Thursday in the Pogue Center as part of the “Movies You Should See” program.

Woody Allen's most well known comedy for FREE!!!

It's a great film that has inspired a lot of todays directors, and it's hilarious to boot. Seriously though, come out, get some free pop corn, and if you're in my Intro to Mass Com class, extra credit! See you there...

Thanks to everyone who came out! We had a blast, and Bradley wishes to thank everyone for their hospitality. Hopefully we'll be able to bring him back and show his new film "Sweethearts of the Prison Rodeo", possibly next semester. Now it's time to get ready for "Special". Last Thursday, we had our second "Movies You Should See" film, Amelie and had a great turnout. Along with Amelie we had a Valentine's Day Themed bake sale where members of our club made cupcakes, cookies, brownies and chocolate covered pretzels and sold them for 50 cents a piece.

Here are a couple of our members at the bake sale the day before Valentine's Day.

This week is our first Big Event for the semester,

"Psychedelic rock band the Flaming Lips present Christmas on Mars: A Fantastical Film Freakout Featuring the Flaming Lips, a glorious science fiction film that marks the directorial debut of the Lips' visionary frontman Wayne Coyne. Seven years in the making, Christmas on Mars features original music by the Flaming Lips ("The greatest US band today" - The Guardian), with acting performances by all band members, and many others from their Oklahoma City-based team. Comedian Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live) and actor Adam Goldberg (Dazed and Confused, Two Days in Paris) also appear.

It's Christmastime, and the colonization of Mars is underway. However, when an oxygen generator and a gravity control pod malfunction, Major Syrtis (the Lips' Steven Drozd) and his team (including the Lips' Michael Ivins) fear the worst. Syrtis also hallucinates about the birth of a baby, and many other strange things. Meanwhile, a compassionate alien superbeing (Coyne) arrives, inspiring and helping the isolated astronauts."

Next Thursday!!! Warm up your blood curdling screams, and practice your best "i'm-gonna-vom" face, cause the best of this year's Eerie Horror Fest is coming to Edinboro. At 8:00pm, (that's right 8:00, not the usual 8:30 thrus. night showing time) be at the Pougue Center theater for our free of charge showing of the BEST OF THE FEST. Did you miss the festival? A lot of us did, I for one was out of town, but now we have a chance redeem ourselves with over two hours of horror mayhem! It's FREE for EUP students, faculty and staff, but even if you're not part of the EUP "family" you can join in on the fun for only $2!!! So bring your friends, and their friends, and anyone else you can find, because (at least in my opinion) when it comes to horror flicks, the more, the merrier! Come share some screams with us, Thurs. Nov 13th (SPOOOKY!!!) at 8:00pm!!!

EFS Gets Grant Monies From Arts Erie and PA Council of The Arts!!!

Yay for free money!!! John(along with his lovely wife Dorota) and Adam recieved a swanky check at an even swankier get together at Erie's Warner Theater earlier this week. The grant makes up a large portion of the EFS budget, and is therefore totally sweet. There were many other organizations from EUP that were also granted funds, but none as mysterious and strangly attractive as the Edinboro Film Series. When asked to describe what we do, John replied with a snide, "What DON'T *wink* we do?"

But in all seriousness, the EFS would not be able to put on any events without this funding. So, since it's election season, vote for your local representative that supports the arts! Like Senator Jane Earll. anyway, just vote, ok? please?
