This week in class, I mentioned Doodle 4 Google to the kids. It's a chance to design one of Google's special logos that appear on their search page. Check out the contest rules and see if your child wants to doodle!

Welcome to Doodle 4 Google, a competition where we invite K-12 students to use their artistic talents to think big and redesign Google’s homepage logo for millions to see. At Google, we believe that dreaming about future possibilities leads to tomorrow’s leaders and inventors, so this year we're inviting U.S. kids to exercise their creative imaginations around the theme, "What I’d like to do someday…"

The author Jon Scieszka has published his books all over the world. He's good, right? I've shown one of his third drafts here. Look at all those changes! And check out the other six of Scieszka's rough drafts (scroll past the pictures of his brothers to the bottom of the page) to see how much he puts into revising!

Being a good writer doesn't mean it's easy or that you can make it 'perfect' the first time. It's not the same as being a good speller. It means you get your ideas down, you re-read them, you ask others to look at your work and give you suggestions, and you keep improving until you're satisfied you've done the best you can.

I know you guys have great ideas, and the world is just waiting for you to share them!
