<P>World Interfaith Harmony Week, which runs from February 1-7, 2012, was passed as a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly on October 20, 2010 for all nations to celebrate. It encourages different faiths and religions to work towards mutual understanding, harmony and cooperation.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </P>
<P>This event is part of the City of Edmonton’s <A title="Celebration of Our Faiths" href="/attractions_recreation/attractions/city_hall/celebration-of-our-faiths.aspx">Celebrating our Faiths Program</A>, in collaboration with the Edmonton Interfaith Centre for Education and Action. The program, which includes a display at City Hall, is designed to promote greater awareness and understanding of the city’s diverse faith communities.</P>

                <description><![CDATA[<P>Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre aquatic area will re-open on <STRONG>February 6, 2012</STRONG> following the completion of required warranty maintenance work. </P>
<P>As part of the construction process, a warranty shutdown was required to ensure that all mechanical, filtration and chemical systems in the aquatics area were working as designed. Now that the maintenance work is done, we welcome Edmontonians back to swim and splash in the pools at Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre.</P>

<P>Get up, get out and get active this winter! Enjoy the sunshine and the sound of snow crunching under your boots by joining this lunchtime downtown walk, part of Alberta’s <STRONG>Winter Walk Day</STRONG>. It’s the perfect way to enjoy active winter living in the city.</P>

<P>If you can’t make it to City Hall, you and your family can celebrate with a 15 minute walk outside your home, school, workplace or favourite pedestrian friendly area.</P>
<P>Winter Walk Day is a yearly event encouraging Albertans to walk a minimum of 15 minutes either indoors or outdoors to improve their overall health.</P>

                <description><![CDATA[<P>Jasper Place and Londonderry Leisure Centres are back in business and just in time for Edmontonians who are looking to fulfill their New Year’s resolutions to shed a few pounds while working up a sweat. </P>
<P>Following the completion of maintenance work, renovations and upgrades, the recreations centres are open again. We are pleased to welcome our regular patrons and those newcomers who are looking to lead more active lives in 2012.</P>
<P>The upgrades and maintenance work at Jasper Place (9200-163 Street) and Londonderry (14528-66 Street) are part of the City’s continued commitment to providing Edmontonians with high quality recreation facilities that help us all lead healthy and active lifestyles.</P>

                <title><![CDATA[Grand Trunk Fitness and Leisure Centre Pool Closes for Maintenance]]></title>

                <description><![CDATA[<P>On <STRONG>February 1, 2012</STRONG>, the pool at Grand Trunk Fitness and Leisure Centre will close for regularly scheduled maintenance. </P>
<P>The pool will reopen on March 16, 2012.&nbsp; The fitness centre will remain open during this time.</P>
<P>Grand Trunk Leisure Centre customers who have the following valid passes, and who have used their pass at least four times at Grand Trunk since November 1, 2011, will be permitted <EM>All Facility Full Access</EM> privileges for the duration of the shutdown.</P>

<P>You and your kids will enjoy getting out of the cold to pedal on our indoor tracks. You’ll also participate in some bike safety activities, bike decorating, races, an obstacle course, and a bike parade. Mugsy, the unicyclist, will thrill you with tricks, safety and more.</P>

Every Thursday, visitors can explore the pyramids in the evening until 9pm. <LI>The fitness centre will close on January 17, 2012 and will reopen on January 23, 2012.</LI></UL>

                <title><![CDATA[Spend the Holidays on Ice]]></title>

                <description><![CDATA[<P>Just in time for the holidays, the outdoor skating rinks at Hawrelak and Rundle Parks will open December 23 at 2pm for another winter season.</P>
<P>Hawrelak and Rundle Park skating rinks will be open daily from 11am to 10pm beginning on December 24.</P>
<P>In addition, the rink in front of City Hall is open every day from 10am to 10pm. There is no charge to use the rink and it is lit for the public to use in the evenings.</P>
<P>The Victoria Park Oval is open to the public between 10am to 10pm daily with a few exceptions. The oval is open only to speed skaters Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 7pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9pm The oval is closed for maintenance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday from 5 to 5:45pm.</P>
<P>Please note: Sticks, balls and pucks are allowed only in designated shinny/hockey areas. Pets are not allowed.</P>
<P><A href="/attractions_recreation/sport_recreation/ice-rinks-outdoor.aspx">Rink locations and current status</A>&nbsp;are available online.</P>
<H3>Tobogganing Hills</H3>
<P>Due to current poor snow conditions, tobogganing hills maintained by the City of Edmonton remain closed until further notice. These hills include Rundle Park – A.C.T. Hill; Rundle Park – Walton’s Mountain; Government House Park Hill; Gallagher Park Hill; Emily Murphy Park Hill; and Castle Downs Hill.</P>
<P>The Whitemud Park North Hill will remain closed for the duration of the 2011-12 winter season as landscaping work at this hill will be completed in 2012 to ensure the site is safe for public use.</P>
