Memorize Names and Faces using your iPhone and Facebook

I meet a lot of people. And I’m willing to bet that you meet a lot of people, too. We meet people everywhere. At social events, networking at tradeshows, and even forming bonds over food. Meeting people is an inevitability. Which is a good thing. But remembering everyone you meet can sometimes be difficult. I still remember many a time where I’d run into someone I had met somewhere, I don’t remember quite where and when, but when they’d greet me with a “Hey Ed!” , I’d usually respond back nervously, “Heeeeyyy, you……how are you doing?!” I’d always feel like a putz asking what their name was, but if I didn’t ask, how could our conversation continue if all I thought about was what their name was? Ya, you know what I mean. You’ve probably been there yourself. We’ve all been there.

So how do we prevent this from ever happening again? By remembering every person we meet. And the best way to do that is by: 1) using pictures, 2) associating that picture to a name, and 3) memorization through repetition. If you’ve got an iPhone (EVERYONE owns one), a Facebook account (EVERYONE is on there), and a few minutes to spare – then here’s a little trick I’ve learned that I’d like to share with you. And it has helped me remember everyone I’ve ever met:

1. Fire up Facebook from your iPhone and search for the Profile of the person (you added each other, right?) whose face and name you wish to remember.

Once you have found and located the Profile, look for an appropriate foto you’d like to use as your Contact. Next, we save the picture to our phone. We can do that by:

2. Hold [HOME] and press the [OFF/LOCK] button to “capture” the image on your screen. Let’s go with this one…

*Note: You should see a “burst of white” indicating that you’ve successfully done the screen capture. All screen captures get automatically saved into your iPhone’s Photo Gallery as (in our case) a *.png photo.

Once that’s done, you will then,

3. Close out of Facebook

Next, 4. Open up your Contacts App (you exchanged Contact info, ya?)

5. Scroll through your Contacts until you come across the name of the Contact you’d like to associate the picture to.

Next, 6. Tap on ‘Edit‘

7. Then, Tap ‘add photo‘

8. Now Tap ‘Choose Existing Photo‘

9. Next, locate the photo you just screen captured and Tap it. Adjust the photo whichever way you like, then click ‘Choose‘

10. Tap ‘Done‘ and…

Yatta! You’re done!

Memorizing names and faces has never been easier. I’m sure this little “memory trick” will work on other smartphones, so let me know if it does. Hey, who knew that a social networking site with over 300 Million members coupled with a smartphone with sales through the roof could create one powerful memorization tool?

Quick! What’s the old capital of Japan? Now before you run off to your favorite search engine to go and find the answer (its Edo ), think for a minute what our lives would be like sans search engines. Go ahead I’ll let you ponder that for a while…

Well? More tougher than it is now right? Imagine, if you will, a time when: researching for a term paper meant going to the library. Or, catching up on sports highlights meant reading it via newspaper. And there is always finding out about the latest movies by watching the trailers on television.. Thank Gaude for the Internet! And thank goodness we have the Search Engine. Not only can our research papers be done at the speed of a New York minute, our lives in general are much easier. One place. For everything. Here’s a list of some of the Best Search Engines:

Obviously, the above mentioned search engines are the biggest players in the Search game. But let’s not dismiss the many other search engines out there: Dogpile, AltaVista, Lycos, MSN, and the all-time classic AOL. Did I miss any?
