After a brief hiatus, Carlo and I decided to dive back into the digital realm with another podcast.

I had the opportunity to speak at a conference just outside of Boston and was anxious to share my perspective on tech integration after sitting in on a presentation about a student-run help desk at Burlington High School.

Tonight we talk with our special guest, Alana Callan, who is the Learning Technology Specialist at Sir Sandford Fleming College.

It all started with Alana’s post: Why Technology Training for Faculty is a Waste of Time (Not Really, but…) http://alanacallan.tumblr.com/post/35559558971/why-technology-training-for-faculty-is-a-waste-of-time. The conversation focuses on Learning Management Systems and how post secondary institutions need to get past just “teaching the tools”. Ideally, an instructional immersion of sorts would take place for staff as they venture through a pedagogical approach to the acquisition of tools and social media skills that enhance learning.

Tonight we reflect on our talk at the ECOO conference in Toronto. Jane and I gave a joint talk about how we have been using technology to record and timeshift lessons. For our talk, we actually brought along a VCR to show a 15 year old video showing how to use a modem to connect to a server to check your email using Pine…I am sure some of you can remember those days.

We really enjoyed using Google Hangouts last podcast that we have decided to move all the podcasts over to Hangouts.

We hope you enjoy this episode and you can find the show notes in Google Docs.
