Viswanathan Anand, the World Champion in Chess from India won the Grenke Chess Classic trophy of 2013 after defeating Arkadij Naiditsch from Germany on 17 February 2013. To secure his win in the Grenke Chess Classic, Anand also defeated Fabiano Caruana from Italy.

This was his first title of the year. The 43 years old Anand, managed to take a 49 move win against Arkadij with his black pieces to claim the title for his all-play-all tournament title in five years.

Researchers Discovered Water on the Oldest Rocks of Moon

Researchers in the third week of February 2013 detected water traces inside the crystalline structure of one of the oldest lunar rocks which were obtained through Apollo missions on Moon.

As per the study conducted by University of Michigan, the lunar highlands represent original crust which is actually crystallised from Magma Ocean that was found mainly on the molten early Moon. Researchers made use of the Infrared spectroscopy for analysing water content in a part of plagioclase feldspar from lunar anorthosites.

UGC revised Fellowship rates for Post Doctoral Fellowship for SC/ ST candidates

In a new notification dated 18 February 2013, University Grant Commission (UGC) revised fellowship rates for the Post Doctoral Fellowship for SC/ ST candidates.

The fellowship was revised from Rs 16000 per month to Rs 25000 per month and the rate will be implemented with effective from 1 April 2009. As per UGC, the decision was taken considering the representation received from delegates of Post Doctoral Fellowship for SC/ST fellows and shall be effective in respect of awardees of SC/ST category for the year 2006-2007 to 2009-2010.

In the experiment of Boeing, the missile went flying over Utah Test and Training Range, and it discharged electromagnetic pulses on seven targets. Eventually, it shut down all the electronics of the area permanently.
