We have multiple Promethean classrooms where the PCs are connected to ceiling speakers via Promethean amplifiers.
A bit like the Promethean AV-3016 if you need to look it up on EBay.

The amplifiers are starting to give in after nearly 20 years worth of use (who knew?!).
Can someone recommend a cheapish alternative?
We contacted Richer Sounds with a similar query (including a note of the old model), who are quoting £250 for a Cambridge - I don't know if that's good/bad/indifferent.

It's the same price on Amazon, if that goes for anything.

For some applications we see that Microsoft SSO can easily break where the application only has the PrimarySMTP address, and the users Microsoft account is logged in with the UPN.

For example, Senso V2 we imported some users using their PrimarySMTP address, and SSO doesn't work. If we use their UPN, it does work.

Are there any major caveats to making these both the same? Maybe making the old UPN an alias? I understand that the UPN is used to actually log in to Microsoft 365, so that would need to be communicated to users.

Anybody else struggling with the sheer size of the recent CU's? I understand it's because they now come bulk loaded with AI / Copilot features?

We have 60 x Lenovo 100e's with only 64GB storage. They're only used for word processing and web browsing and maybe a bit of python. We didn't budget to refresh them this year because I recommended that they would have gone again for another year, had the updates stayed within a reasonable size... (they had around 7-10Gb free storage).

The last few updates seem to be many GB's each which has now put this devices in a constant state of without storage space.

We have some 300e's which we use for some TA's and by some stroke of luck, they have an extra unfilled m.2 slot - This was going to be my fixed, only i have just this second found out that the 100e's do not 😭.

Anyone feeding Bromcom staff absences into Every HR via Wonde? Possibly a niche request but......

We feed staff absence data from Bromcom into Every HR via Wonde. Typically that's 6-10 updates per week across the whole MAT.

Yesterday we had ~1540 updates for School A and ~840 for School B, many of them adjustments to historical (September 2024) absences and very petty things like setting the end time of an absence from 16:00 to 15:59.

Our staff absences recorders haven't done anything daft (and certainly don't have the time to edit that many entries), which means Bromcom, Wonde or Every have done something daft.

Would anyone else using a similar setup mind asking their HR team if they got an unusual flood of staff absences updates this week?

	cheers

This only occurs when the user has not run SnippingTool for the first time.

If a user runs snipping tool first then uses printscreen after that, snipping tool works without an issue until their profile is removed.

So what's happening? It appears that snippingtool is being installed to the local profile once it has been run from the start menu. Only then do the files for SnippingTool appear in the local appdata folders which cannot be copied out to the default profile or added so a set of folders to be copied into the local account at logon.

Even exporting the Default AppAssociation list copying the ms-screenclip line for the snipping tool and using a default apps list at computer boot does not fix the issue.

What's the fix? I don't know which is why i'm on here wondering of anyone else has had this issue.

We could disable the use of PrintScreen and tell people to use the snippingtool from the start menu but that seems such a copout.

Found a weird deal yesterday I wanted to run by y'all. I had to replace an all in one PC with a workstation with a dedicated GPU for a vocational teacher to run AutoCAD. He has a SMART display panel as his secondary display. GPU is an Nvidia Quadro.

When he is in extended mode or PC only scaling is at 100% as it should be. For some reason when he selects duplicate mode stupid Windows 11 thinks the panel is a TV and sets scaling for both his monitor and the SMART panel to 150%. Since teachers do not have admin rights he cannot adjust this. I can log in as myself and set it to 100% but that setting does not appear to be global. As soon as another user logs in and selects the duplicate display mode it bounces to 150% scaling and nothing fits on the screen properly. AutoCAD refuses to launch (rightly so) because the scaling is messed up. His old PC was an all in one with integrated video and this problem did not exist (that machine was Windows 11 also, but had just recently been upgraded from Windows 10).

I have found an open source utility called Set DPI that will force anyone's login session to 100%, but I was hoping to find an "officially supported" method to ease the stress on my superiors.

We have a HP Elitedesk 800 USFF desktop which started exhibiting odd behaviour starting a couple of weeks ago. Presented automatic repair screen on reboot, and that happened out of the blue with no damage or nincompoopery from students. Brought the machine to my office to investigate, decided it was likely an SSD issue so swapped it out (NVME), rebuilt and it was happy.

	For a day.

This was last week, but the joys of staff only reporting things days down the line meant I only noticed today when I went in for something else. Swore and brought it back up to my office.

HP diagnostics all pass with flying colours.

I check the CCTV in the room to see if someone was messing with it. Nope.

But I do notice it turning itself on at 01:20 the first morning it presented the issue after my initial fix.

Unprompted, no rodents treading on keys to wake it up, no other machines in the room (all identical) doing anything similar and unlikely to be power supply related as I also replaced it as part of caution the first time around.

Nothing in BIOS is screaming out to me - no remote management options like IME, no scheduled power on, nothing.

Only thing capable of waking on LAN (on purpose) is Impero and that didn't do it.

The only thing I can think of is the possibility it might be on someone's Intune or other MDM still, as it was bought as a refurb. Waking on LAN shouldn't present any problems like the auto-repair regardless, but maybe forced remote wipe commands? I'm clearly clutching at straws!

Up until last month the longest delay we ever had on any report was end of the same day. Over the last couple of weeks, we've literally had a week's delay on one report, 5 days on another, 2 days on another. For such an expensive service, this seems to be very problematic.

Their reasoning so far has been "it wasn't relating to a child and wasn't a high priority event at only a level 3", however the others were relating to children. Also only level 3, but I don't hold out much hope for their triaging recently. Had quite a few reports come in at level 2 that should have been 3 and therefore automatically going through to CPOMS.

Also hitting another issue I'm raising with them regarding the integration - when it does go to CPOMS it only shows the time and date of when the event was raised, not when it actually happened. Our DSL felt silly going stomping into a classroom to find the student involved not anywhere near a computer and hasn't been for 2 days!
