One of the highlights of this trip was the hotel we stayed in! </p> <p>Presenting to you—Cityview Hotel!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SwLRdqtJRvI/AAAAAAAADN4/lLhSSkcT4Bw/s1600-h/DSC_0760%5B10%5D.jpg"><img title="DSC_0760" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="287" alt="DSC_0760" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SwLReMXKRvI/AAAAAAAADN8/3_hNK23anlg/DSC_0760_thumb%5B8%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="407" border="0" /></a> </p> <p>It was SOOOO easy to get to the hotel. From the airport, we took the Airport Express to Kowloon Station. We heard that even the locals take this express train… makes you wonder how cab drivers earn their airport dollar! </p> <p>At Kowloon, look for the Airport Express Shuttle Bus K5. This bus which comes every 15 min, is FREE and it sends you straight to Cityview Hotel!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SwLRe4IEgiI/AAAAAAAADOA/W3myH1e3F8I/s1600-h/page%5B4%5D.jpg"><img title="page" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="426" alt="page" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SwLRf5_a1TI/AAAAAAAADOE/QazqFhEPlsM/page_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="426" border="0" /></a> </p> <p>Btw, we saw our first interesting signage on the bus:</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SwLRgaXOvBI/AAAAAAAADOI/_aAJhmNRYpc/s1600-h/DSC_0031%5B7%5D.jpg"><img title="DSC_0031" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="297" alt="DSC_0031" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SwLRhMq1JQI/AAAAAAAADOM/bo48zxnEH5w/DSC_0031_thumb%5B5%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="426" border="0" /></a> </p> <p>It seems that you can’t talk to the bus driver – Not that we really wanted to as well! ….Our Cantonese is not that proficient :)</p> <p>After we checked in, we <em>rushed</em> up to our rooms to see what the rooms were like… Look!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SwLRhqQ2JXI/AAAAAAAADOQ/peGIr_5c7-4/s1600-h/Hotel%20Room%5B7%5D.jpg"><img title="Hotel Room" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="300" alt="Hotel Room" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SwLRiZ4jncI/AAAAAAAADOU/S-j47Db7iu8/Hotel%20Room_thumb%5B5%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="428" border="0" /></a> </p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>Not bad eh? It costs HK680 (S$125) per night excluding taxes. Considering we are close to peak season, this was very affordable. </p> <p>ED thinks that it is very small (as compared to our room in Malacca, Malaysia)  He says that it is only slightly bigger than our hotel room in Paris.</p> <p>However, the room was very clean. It had the regular Bar Fridge (empty inside), Room Safe, complimentary coffee & tea, electric kettle, and Wall-mounted LCD TV. The bathroom had only shower facilities (good water pressure, regular hot water!), and of course the usual toiletries. </p> <p>We put the beds together, and our whole family slept on this makeshift Double Bed. There was enough space for our two large suitcases to be left open on the floor, and still enough for the kids to dance and prance around. </p> <p>Now the most exciting bit was the LOCATION of this hotel! It is is Yau Ma Tei area, which is smacked in between two HOT shopping spots – Tsim Sha Tsui and Mongkok. AND AND AND, the hotel is ONE minute walk away from Yau Ma Tei MTR station. </p> <p>In this ONE minute, you walk pass a 7-11 store (where you can buy food/drinks/top-up Train Ticket), and 2 other food stalls! It is also next to a school and hospital. So walking back late at night is safe as the street is brightly lit. There’s also a security check at the hotel’s main door after 11 p.m.! </p> <p> <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SwLRizLJgII/AAAAAAAADOY/zSc4TQUfyV4/s1600-h/pop_roadmap%5B6%5D.gif"><img title="pop_roadmap" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="536" alt="pop_roadmap" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SwLRjiKS1-I/AAAAAAAADOc/_4na-LGDYh8/pop_roadmap_thumb%5B9%5D.gif?imgmax=800" width="383" border="0" /></a></p> <p>So if you’re looking for a decent and safe place to stay in Kowloon, we strongly recommend Cityview! </p> <div class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:b64715b6-8f38-4e28-bff0-1d3d1b369aa2" style="padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; float: none; padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-top: 0px">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Hong+Kong+Adventure" rel="tag">Hong Kong Adventure</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Good+Accomodation+in+Hong+Kong" rel="tag">Good Accomodation in Hong Kong</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Budget+Hotel+in+Hong+Kong" rel="tag">Budget Hotel in Hong Kong</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Cityview+Hong+Kong" rel="tag">Cityview Hong Kong</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Hotels+near+MTR" rel="tag">Hotels near MTR</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Hotels+in+Yau+Ma+Tei" rel="tag">Hotels in Yau Ma Tei</a></div> Ed or Edmund Tayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09767254822865781652noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5908391013085388041.post-25209594778874672822009-11-13T09:21:00.000+08:002009-11-13T09:21:00.502+08:00Family Fun Vacation<p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvxiLyxYgtI/AAAAAAAADNg/GDkXiGKmMaI/s1600-h/hong-kong%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="hong-kong" border="0" alt="hong-kong" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvxiMVYw5RI/AAAAAAAADNk/NMfPTxtBXlc/hong-kong_thumb%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="412" height="284" /></a> </p> <p>We are flying off to Hong Kong today and we are so excited! </p> <p>Mummy is a bit worried as it is the first trip off, and she is worried whether if they can sit through the 3.5 hour flight. </p> <p>She is worried if she has brought enough milk…enough diapers…enough clothes!</p> <p>Btw, Nathan needs 5 diapers a day (Daddy thought 2 diapers is enough – 1 in the morning, and 1 in the night). That is about 1 dollar/day for diapers.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvxiNlaiYGI/AAAAAAAADNo/hKYY7wNBsMg/s1600-h/diapers%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="diapers" border="0" alt="diapers" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvxiOdxD41I/AAAAAAAADNs/R61jlFgUdjY/diapers_thumb%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="411" height="312" /></a> </p> <p>Sigh…Going on a trip used to be so easy…I just used to chuck everything into the bag, and I was off! </p> <p>In fact, the way I pack my bags – makes me feel so garung!!! Like Rambo!!! Ready to face the new world and the challenges ahead!</p> <p>Things have changed!!!</p> <p>Today, I had to make sure that all of mummy’s worries are dealt with. Even have to pack seedless grapes, bananas and toys for the flight over to Hong Kong  (We are not even talking about Hong Kong yet…)</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvxiPUYPq9I/AAAAAAAADNw/lXTcU8VKMTA/s1600-h/walkie%20talkies%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="walkie talkies" border="0" alt="walkie talkies" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvxiPwBEWdI/AAAAAAAADN0/Had2_IgQ_w0/walkie%20talkies_thumb%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="411" height="312" /></a> </p> <p>I even packed Walkie Talkies! This is my 1st time doing this…Am I getting old…or am I just getting more resourceful! Please enlighten me?!?</p> <p>One thing I am sure of, is that the children will enjoy the trip.</p> <p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:6c66a570-9549-4c46-b7d7-828f10ac5049" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Family+holiday+to+Hong+Kong" rel="tag">Family holiday to Hong Kong</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Packing+for+a+vacation" rel="tag">Packing for a vacation</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Family+prepartion+for+trip" rel="tag">Family prepartion for trip</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Hong+Kong" rel="tag">Hong Kong</a></div></p> Ed or Edmund Tayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09767254822865781652noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5908391013085388041.post-68718679342009872292009-11-12T00:21:00.001+08:002009-11-12T00:31:56.928+08:00Halloween Holiday<p>In one of my recent posts, I talked about <a href="http://edunloaded.blogspot.com/2009/11/ideas-for-halloween-party.html" target="_blank">Halloween</a> and the party that we had on that day. A reader asked whether if Christians can or should celebrate Halloween. This topic is of course closely link to topics like <a href="http://edunloaded.blogspot.com/2008/01/harry-potter-should-we-run-and-hide.html" target="_blank">Harry Porter</a> and <a href="http://www.konghee.com/blog" target="_blank">Sun’s Music</a>. </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkP7eJ87I/AAAAAAAADMA/EZiohv1kwsM/s1600-h/IMG_83527.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG_8352" border="0" alt="IMG_8352" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkQjuadWI/AAAAAAAADME/_CBL-GUdJ70/IMG_8352_thumb5.jpg?imgmax=800" width="420" height="287" /></a> </p> <p>In fact, Christianity Today (A mainstream Evangelical Magazine) also gives it’s views on Harry Porter and <a href="http://www.cbn.com/spirituallife/onlinediscipleship/halloween/halloween_watt05.aspx" target="_blank">Halloween</a>. <a href="http://family.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/family.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=882&p_created=1043871046&p_sid=fzlNgIMj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MSwxJnBfcHJvZHM9JnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1oYWxsb3dlZW4!&p_li=&p_topview=1" target="_blank">Focus on the family</a> has an article about it as well.</p> <p>The issue of Christians and Halloween is a much debated topic in the States, and if you do a search on google, u will find people on both sides of the fence. </p> <p>With Halloween parties becoming more popular, I think it is good to form an opinion on the matter.</p> <p>IMHO, I would choose to engage rather than to ignore the holiday. Not engaging the subject is giving the day to fear, and it does not not help that more and more people are getting involved in such parties.<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkR4PSvUI/AAAAAAAADMI/fa-11DI_LCk/s1600-h/IMG_83985.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG_8398" border="0" alt="IMG_8398" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkS4ns0pI/AAAAAAAADMM/A6tpOXEpEqw/IMG_8398_thumb3.jpg?imgmax=800" width="422" height="290" /></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkUfXNySI/AAAAAAAADMQ/5SU06WhCZmM/s1600-h/halloweencollage4.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="halloween collage" border="0" alt="halloween collage" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkVcqTn9I/AAAAAAAADMU/D6X9dURYnUA/halloweencollage_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" width="417" height="337" /></a> Non engagement is not helping anybody, as we are told to win the lost, and not ignore them. </p> <p>Halloween does have it origins with the occult and it has to do with observing the end of summer sacrifices to gods in Druidic tradition.</p> <p>In the fourth century, Christians attempted to redeem the holiday by celebrating the lives of faithful Christian saints the day before Halloween. That is why the day is also called “All Souls Day”, with some members of the Catholic Faith going to the cemetary to pay their respect to the dead. <a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkWoNQdsI/AAAAAAAADMY/zAHHp-CgHYQ/s1600-h/IMG_8744%5B8%5D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG_8744" border="0" alt="IMG_8744" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkXVl9q2I/AAAAAAAADMc/7YKIutiCeDQ/IMG_8744_thumb%5B6%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="418" height="288" /></a> </p> <p>This was a conscious attempt to provide an alternative and re-focus the day away from ghouls, goblins, ghosts, witches and other “haunted” experiences. </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkYm8HkQI/AAAAAAAADMg/bei5SXUiUyI/s1600-h/IMG_8736%5B8%5D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG_8736" border="0" alt="IMG_8736" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkZmTCtsI/AAAAAAAADMk/2Hj-ivTvU00/IMG_8736_thumb%5B6%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="415" height="424" /></a> Personally, I think the parties are fine, as I don’t think our parties involve any worship to any pagan God or and child sacrifices. In fact, all we have is music, party and games. In fact, we met a lot of new people for the 1st time. Some of our friends from the Czech Republic even thought that the event was professionally organized! :) </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkasPx-WI/AAAAAAAADMo/x444e1Hv-7k/s1600-h/IMG_85157.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG_8515" border="0" alt="IMG_8515" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Svrkbd6BIjI/AAAAAAAADMs/pKAH8KnW7eA/IMG_8515_thumb5.jpg?imgmax=800" width="421" height="288" /></a> I feel that we are supposed to  "become all things to all men so that by all possible means" we might save some? (1 Cor. 9:22)</p> <p>Christians should <em>not</em> respond to Halloween like superstitious non-christians. Non Christians are superstitious and are afraid of black cats, walking under ladders. They need to chase away “nian” at Chinese New Year and wear Red for auspicious good luck!  </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkceisXdI/AAAAAAAADMw/9A0_B0eOFus/s1600-h/IMG_8777%5B6%5D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG_8777" border="0" alt="IMG_8777" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkdVbY5CI/AAAAAAAADM0/ILF7n08Q34o/IMG_8777_thumb%5B4%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="416" height="611" /></a> Christians are enlightened by the truth of God's Word. We are not bound by superstition. Evil spirits are no more active and sinister on Halloween than they are on any other day of the year; in fact, any day is a good day for Satan to prowl about seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8).</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkeZBNgyI/AAAAAAAADM4/oTzPCe2XkfQ/s1600-h/IMG_89858.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG_8985" border="0" alt="IMG_8985" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkfTQ98GI/AAAAAAAADM8/b990iv45uBc/IMG_8985_thumb6.jpg?imgmax=800" width="423" height="290" /></a> But "greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4). God has forever "disarmed principalities and powers" through the cross Christ and "made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them through [Christ]" (Colossians 2:15).</p> <p>Christians have the freedom to either observe Halloween or not do so without fear of sinning. However, no one should be forced to participate who still believes that doing so is wrong - this would be sinning against one's conscience: Romans 14:14 -- "I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean." (see Romans 14:22-23; see also Romans 14:3a, 5-6).</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Svrkg6sjEEI/AAAAAAAADNE/uUk7YRfmXEE/s1600-h/IMG_88068.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG_8806" border="0" alt="IMG_8806" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Svrkh_PjjSI/AAAAAAAADNI/UMt3-KljsrM/IMG_8806_thumb6.jpg?imgmax=800" width="420" height="285" /></a> On the flip side, the Christian who abstains from Halloween for conscience' sake, should not condemn the Christian who chooses to participate. For the Scripture says, "Therefore let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day-- 17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ" (see Romans 14:3b, 5-6).</p> <p>Essentially, we should withhold judgment and  be able to live peacefully with each other, and choose to agree or disagree when it comes to issues that are debatable.  </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkkEpUyaI/AAAAAAAADNM/LYBDT_wPzlM/s1600-h/IMG_8954%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG_8954" border="0" alt="IMG_8954" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrklAJ-7vI/AAAAAAAADNQ/3OD5kgLHsWk/IMG_8954_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="425" height="289" /></a> </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkmKlh7EI/AAAAAAAADNU/lw5VaUTKtlw/s1600-h/IMG_8950%5B10%5D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG_8950" border="0" alt="IMG_8950" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvrkmuEkBaI/AAAAAAAADNc/B9EbgtqP5jA/IMG_8950_thumb%5B8%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="424" height="222" /></a> </p> <p>I for one, am focused on the partying aspects and on meeting new people! </p> <p></p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:40d7fded-7195-42f6-a3d0-05fef328e333" class="wlWriterSmartContent">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Should+Christians+celebrate+Halloween" rel="tag">Should Christians celebrate Halloween</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Christians+and+Halloween" rel="tag">Christians and Halloween</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Halloween+round+the+world" rel="tag">Halloween round the world</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Halloween+Fun" rel="tag">Halloween Fun</a></div> Ed or Edmund Tayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09767254822865781652noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5908391013085388041.post-89227288473911702212009-11-09T16:36:00.001+08:002009-11-09T16:36:19.429+08:00Mcdonald’s Monopoly<p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvfUW4lqASI/AAAAAAAADKo/CHJvHeiCIRo/s1600-h/image%5B3%5D.png"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="image" border="0" alt="image" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvfUaYLPjnI/AAAAAAAADKs/dNUmLE7xQfg/image_thumb%5B1%5D.png?imgmax=800" width="414" height="414" /></a>Everyone I know seems to be going crazy over the Monopoly Singapore game! </p> <p>In fact, as of the last 2-3 weeks, I have been eating Mc Donald’s more than usual….and of course the kids are definitely not protesting! </p> <p>Friends have been twittering that they are going to Mc-vomit very soon! :)</p> <p>There are people even proclaiming on Facebook about the properties which they need! </p> <p>Seriously, if I had Sentosa Cove or Orchard Road, would I offer it to anybody? I certainly don’t think so!</p> <p>Btw, I think this has been their most successful advertising campaign since the days of Hello Kitty. Remember those long queues, where every maid and Grand parent in Singapore, was waiting in line to get a Hello Kitty for their loved ones. </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvfUawTXdbI/AAAAAAAADKw/LLEiS_KKudo/s1600-h/hello_kitty_macdonalds_queue%5B8%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="hello_kitty_macdonalds_queue" border="0" alt="hello_kitty_macdonalds_queue" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvfUbjM3_xI/AAAAAAAADK0/8DjKdsWhZKg/hello_kitty_macdonalds_queue_thumb%5B6%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="413" height="253" /></a> </p> <p>I think that the catch behind the Mcdonald’s Monopoly game is that they don’t just give you 1 coupon, but they give you 8 coupons with every up-sized meal. </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvfUct8B_MI/AAAAAAAADK4/Y7_2M4WDq_0/s1600-h/mcdonalds%20monopoly%5B7%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="mcdonalds monopoly" border="0" alt="mcdonalds monopoly" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvfUdJgqn0I/AAAAAAAADK8/o0-V6zqPRD8/mcdonalds%20monopoly_thumb%5B5%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="420" height="318" /></a> </p> <p>Psychologically, you feel closer to the winning ticket! It was billed as an opportunity to get up close and personal with 20 winemakers around the world. (Really quite prestigious considering there would be winemakers from award winning wineries)</p> <p>Well, as I was getting ready for the dinner, I decided to put together what little experience/knowledge I have about wine:</p> <p>1. I don’t drink wine! I don’t drink beer! I don’t drink! </p> <p>2. It amazes me why many are preoccupied with ‘sniffing’ their wine glasses before take a sip. How does that enhance the experience? We don’t sniff our food before eating!  :)</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbQlmLxrTI/AAAAAAAADJU/6S5251V_k4o/s1600-h/nose2.png"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" title="nose" border="0" alt="nose" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbQndnAWOI/AAAAAAAADJY/WxDNHlxS_QY/nose_thumb2.png?imgmax=800" width="300" height="351" /></a> </p> <p>3. There’s RED wine and there’s WHITE wine. I never knew the difference! To me – it is just WINE!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbQrH57PhI/AAAAAAAADJc/8cBYch0RyhA/s1600-h/redwhitewine2.png"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="red white wine" border="0" alt="red white wine" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbQyV7tL-I/AAAAAAAADJg/-Eps9gBGfhk/redwhitewine_thumb2.png?imgmax=800" width="411" height="506" /></a> </p> <p>4. Wine comes from grapes. And I think people still do their traditional dance on the grapes to extract the wine.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbQ6JC6QoI/AAAAAAAADJk/oz6OJ-Ks4R8/s1600-h/makewine1.png"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="makewine" border="0" alt="makewine" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRAUqoTLI/AAAAAAAADJo/UuZXQ1U1iqA/makewine_thumb1.png?imgmax=800" width="415" height="312" /></a> </p> <p>So armed with such a *rich* experience, I went for the dinner. You can imagine there was really quite a bit of apprehension as I stepped in! </p> <p>Dinner was at <a href="http://www.jing.sg/">Jing</a>, at 1 Fullerton. It is a beautiful place, overlooking the Singapore River. Now…this was something I was looking forward to!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRBGjXBCI/AAAAAAAADJs/pMfjpEeOf-w/s1600-h/FoodJingRestaurant3.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Food Jing Restaurant" border="0" alt="Food Jing Restaurant" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRB8z_htI/AAAAAAAADJw/_vd6kGKEm2M/FoodJingRestaurant_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="415" height="316" /></a> </p> <p>The FOOD. The 10-course meal was glorious! Really. Look at the fish…</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRCZ6kFNI/AAAAAAAADJ0/-du9y3xxkPI/s1600-h/FoodFish3.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Food Fish" border="0" alt="Food Fish" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRC9-JykI/AAAAAAAADJ4/ufx-49vCkWY/FoodFish_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="414" height="315" /></a> </p> <p>(<em>So sorry, no other pictures of food. We loved it so much, and were sooo hungry, it was gone before we could take any pictures!</em>)</p> <p>Check out the chef’s credentials! </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRD-QK_CI/AAAAAAAADKA/BCjzJKDdxv0/s1600-h/IMG0047720091029233111.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG00477-20091029-2331" border="0" alt="IMG00477-20091029-2331" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbREbaeoWI/AAAAAAAADKE/u2trPgDI0WU/IMG00477200910292331_thumb9.jpg?imgmax=800" width="419" height="319" /></a> </p> <p>Now the WINE and the winemakers. </p> <p>The Winemakers were assigned White Covered seats that were distributed all around the room. As luck would have it, the seat next to mine was a Winemaker’s seat! And with each Course, the winemakers would change seats among themselves! As they moved around, they would bring along their wine (some up to 4 bottles) for us to try! It was kind of like musical chairs! You know speed dating – it’s exactly the same formula! </p> <p>When we started, I felt like a hypocrite! These highly honoured men (& some women) would be able to see right through me! Alas! Should I go along with the pretence? </p> <p>Hmm… I am proud to say Truth prevails and the truth will set you free. I simply put aside my prejudices, and positioned myself as an ignoramus. I asked genuine questions that I was interested in, and had a really good time! </p> <p>Q1: Do you own a vineyard too?</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRUCP9kAI/AAAAAAAADKI/CEhFAr-ERaI/s1600-h/Vineyard1.png"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Vineyard" border="0" alt="Vineyard" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRaj6LnvI/AAAAAAAADKM/qr7Ubl4io68/Vineyard_thumb1.png?imgmax=800" width="408" height="310" /></a> </p> <p>A: Not necessarily. Winemakers own wineries or work in wineries. Some wineries buy grapes from vineyards, some have family members who own vineyards, and some have their own vineyards. </p> <p>Wineries which don’t have vineyards have the option of picking and choosing the best grapes, and deciding on the quantity of wine they want. On the other hand, with a vineyard, the wineries have to contend with bad harvest and create various grades of wine accordingly. </p> <p>Q2: Do your children drink wine?</p> <p>A: YES! It was resounding! In fact, in Italy, one of the winemakers pour wine on good ol’ Italian bread, and sprinkle sugar over it as afternoon snack for his kids! This is a common dish served at mid-day! They believe the wine gives EXTRA energy for kids to pull through the second half of the day! </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRjoR3xBI/AAAAAAAADKQ/AotVqlpjJ1A/s1600-h/winebreadsugar1.png"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="wine bread sugar" border="0" alt="wine bread sugar" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRonPgU7I/AAAAAAAADKU/vGOT6R1TJFw/winebreadsugar_thumb1.png?imgmax=800" width="421" height="286" /></a> </p> <p>Q3: What’s your personal favourite?</p> <p>A: This was the best question I asked! Cos if I didn’t, they would get you to try all the wine that their winery produces! </p> <p>Q4: Is this your first time in Singapore?</p> <p>Q5: What’s your favourite food here?</p> <p>Q6: Have you tried the durian?</p> <p>You would notice the subsequent questions are all small talk with the winemakers. Haha! </p> <p>After all that drinking, feasting, talking and merry making, this is our table. </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRp_Ysj2I/AAAAAAAADKY/kWMpn1kg35k/s1600-h/IMG004762009102923207.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG00476-20091029-2320" border="0" alt="IMG00476-20091029-2320" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRqt3odlI/AAAAAAAADKc/FaV77yJCvy0/IMG00476200910292320_thumb5.jpg?imgmax=800" width="396" height="521" /></a> </p> <p>That large glass of red wine is a combination of many many many glasses of wine that we couldn’t finish! They call it the tipping glass—you tip the wine that you don’t want into that glass! It was comforting to know that even the experts don’t finish their wine! </p> <p>Now, for my personal favourite! If I have to bring wine to a dinner, this is what I’d bring. It’s <em>refreshing, light and cleans your palate</em>. (quote and unquote from the Winemaker himself!) And trust me, it really does! I like it! </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRrY69f-I/AAAAAAAADKg/o6WhyFvrMd4/s1600-h/IMG004752009102923057.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG00475-20091029-2305" border="0" alt="IMG00475-20091029-2305" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvbRr8g8LkI/AAAAAAAADKk/WWKbrMFPjXo/IMG00475200910292305_thumb7.jpg?imgmax=800" width="417" height="543" /></a> </p> <p>Maybe this choice also reflects my aptitude for wine appreciation… it is the cheapest wine presented that night! Costs only $28.80 a bottle! But it wins hands down for me! </p> <p>Thank you Denise The Wine Shop for organising this event. I just finished 1 of my assignments, and as I was just relaxing, I happened to check out my colleagues website.</p> <p><a href="http://my-princess-deniselim.blogspot.com/">Dawn</a> introduced this flash mob which was done at <a href="http://edunloaded.blogspot.com/2008/04/dirty-dancing-on-oprah-winfrey.html">Oprah Winfrey’s</a> curtain raiser for her 24th season.  The band leading the way were the Black Eyed Peas…but the interesting thing, was the number of people that she got involved in the project. </p> <p>The effect is actually quite impressive! Well, if u are Oprah Winfrey…u can pull a lot of things off!!!</p> <p>You can check it out in the video below! </p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:5737277B-5D6D-4f48-ABFC-DD9C333F4C5D:2e3fe600-dee7-4e4c-938a-7d32a583bb74" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent"><div id="9c500830-ffd0-4f35-aeb9-901eb36f9f66" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; display: inline;"><div><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aSbKvm_mKA&hl=en&fs=1&" target="_new"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvOWVdD-xEI/AAAAAAAADI8/0j3oDsYfsa8/video8f3548e143d0%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('9c500830-ffd0-4f35-aeb9-901eb36f9f66'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "<div><object width=\"425\" height=\"355\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http://www.youtube.com/v/1aSbKvm_mKA&hl=en&fs=1&&hl=en\"><\/param><embed src=\"http://www.youtube.com/v/1aSbKvm_mKA&hl=en&fs=1&&hl=en\" type=\"application/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"425\" height=\"355\"><\/embed><\/object><\/div>";" alt=""></a></div></div></div> <p> </p> <p>After that, I decided to google for some funny advertisements, as there are actually quite a few funny commercials around. To date, my favourite funny commercial is the <a href="http://edunloaded.blogspot.com/2008/01/first-day-at-school.html">DHL advertisement</a> that was made in Korea. It is so hilarious!</p> <p>I just saw this commercial and it is really funny as well! F</p> <p>This is for all couples expecting or anticipating children…u have got to watch it!</p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:5737277B-5D6D-4f48-ABFC-DD9C333F4C5D:596b5ecf-188d-4cec-acc9-e10eed0db26f" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent"><div id="9d5bcf5b-17ae-4469-9cc5-a16848f99a8c" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; display: inline;"><div><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPlqhw8AoQI&hl=en&fs=1&" target="_new"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvLsqSLX7II/AAAAAAAADJA/iFvYZqF9-yY/video974d0808fcb7%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('9d5bcf5b-17ae-4469-9cc5-a16848f99a8c'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "<div><object width=\"425\" height=\"355\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http://www.youtube.com/v/IPlqhw8AoQI&hl=en&fs=1&&hl=en\"><\/param><embed src=\"http://www.youtube.com/v/IPlqhw8AoQI&hl=en&fs=1&&hl=en\" type=\"application/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"425\" height=\"355\"><\/embed><\/object><\/div>";" alt=""></a></div></div></div> <p></p> <p>If u don’t understand the commercial, this might help u!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvOWWtmkY-I/AAAAAAAADJI/ZqElc9pO3rA/s1600-h/ipod%20collage%20vs%20pregnancy%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="ipod collage vs pregnancy" border="0" alt="ipod collage vs pregnancy" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvOWXV9SKPI/AAAAAAAADJM/Fl3YvW88X2s/ipod%20collage%20vs%20pregnancy_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="414" height="414" /></a> </p> <p>I am so glad that I married a smart wife and not a bimbo! </p><p>In fact, Daddy has heard so much about the Omni theatre ever since he was young, and he was overjoyed that he could finally savour the OMNI experience for himself. </p><p><a href="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Edmund%20Tay/Local%20Settings/Temp/WindowsLiveWriter-429641856/supfilesDE361B/DSC_024110.jpg"><img style="BORDER-BOTTOM: 0px; BORDER-LEFT: 0px; DISPLAY: inline; BORDER-TOP: 0px; BORDER-RIGHT: 0px" title="clip_image002" border="0" alt="clip_image002" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvGFsMrExXI/AAAAAAAADH8/e01WtY8pFSM/clip_image002%5B4%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="415" height="312" /></a></p><p>As we entered the Omni Theatre, we realized that Mead Johnson’s collaboration with the Science Centre underscores their commitment to provide scientific-based solutions to help in supporting the brain development and body resistance of the child while Science Centre provides the environment to nurture their learning.</p><p>Mead Johnson’s tie-up with the Science Centre will definitely give children an excellent environment, as the many fun activities will help nurture their learning processes.</p><p>One of the many facilities that the Science Centre offers is the Omni Theatre.</p><p>The Omni Theatre is actually quite big, and has a seating capacity of 276 seats. </p><p><a href="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Edmund%20Tay/Local%20Settings/Temp/WindowsLiveWriter-429641856/supfilesDE361B/DSC_02495.jpg"><img style="BORDER-BOTTOM: 0px; BORDER-LEFT: 0px; DISPLAY: inline; BORDER-TOP: 0px; BORDER-RIGHT: 0px" title="clip_image003" border="0" alt="clip_image003" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvGFsoj0xoI/AAAAAAAADIA/g0TE22GVbkI/clip_image003%5B4%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="414" height="267" /></a></p><p>The hall was also filled with children, as Mead Johnson also invited guests from Grace home for the event. This was definitely a nice gesture by the company.</p><p><a href="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Edmund%20Tay/Local%20Settings/Temp/WindowsLiveWriter-429641856/supfilesDE361B/DSC_02599.jpg"><img style="BORDER-BOTTOM: 0px; BORDER-LEFT: 0px; DISPLAY: inline; BORDER-TOP: 0px; BORDER-RIGHT: 0px" title="clip_image004" border="0" alt="clip_image004" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SvGFteasDNI/AAAAAAAADIE/AHnbtWiWfxc/clip_image004%5B4%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="420" height="298" /></a></p><p>With each seat reclined to get a panoramic view of the large 5 storey screen, the kids were all excited and climbing over each other. </p><p>The short movie entitled “Under the Sea” was a real eye-opener, as the screen managed to help us see the sea creatures up close and personal.</p><p>We were captivated, as the screen gives you an impression, that you really are in the ocean swimming with the sea creatures. The kids were so intrigued by the effects of the theatre, that Nicole was exclaiming, “The fish are swimming under my feet!”</p><p>At the end of the movie, the feeling from the kids were mutual! We had a hard time getting him into the costume, as he was very reluctant to put on the fun costume we got from him. Mummy saw it at “Toys R Us”, and she could not resist getting one for him</p><p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Su3aLJjUBlI/AAAAAAAADFA/CrGNeiADgP0/s1600-h/DSC_0300%5B9%5D.jpg"><img title="DSC_0300" style="BORDER-RIGHT: 0px; BORDER-TOP: 0px; DISPLAY: inline; BORDER-LEFT: 0px; BORDER-BOTTOM: 0px" height="722" alt="DSC_0300" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Su3aMBdk4HI/AAAAAAAADFE/f8VMvhjSxXA/DSC_0300_thumb%5B7%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="419" border="0" /></a> </p><p>Nicole was a Angel! We got her the “Wings”, while the magic wand and headgear was from her playthings! She loved the idea of being an angel, and especially when she was allowed to put on makeup. She was in heaven! </p><p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Su3aMtZuSjI/AAAAAAAADFI/IwLfPSGP2S8/s1600-h/DSC_0293%5B7%5D.jpg"><img title="DSC_0293" style="BORDER-RIGHT: 0px; BORDER-TOP: 0px; DISPLAY: inline; BORDER-LEFT: 0px; BORDER-BOTTOM: 0px" height="602" alt="DSC_0293" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Su3aNkA7IOI/AAAAAAAADFM/6DOfVEZNRN8/DSC_0293_thumb%5B5%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="410" border="0" /></a> </p><p>Nadine was a little Pumpkin! Btw, Nicole has her views on her favourite food as well…<a href="http://edunloaded.blogspot.com/2008/08/singing-about-your-favorite-food.html">u can check out her video here!</a> </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Suj4hwCZ7TI/AAAAAAAADCY/KyIPFP2R8lg/s1600-h/pringles%5B4%5D.jpg"><img title="pringles" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="437" alt="pringles" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Suj4k44FUNI/AAAAAAAADCc/TLlpnM_bEKc/pringles_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="411" border="0" /></a> </p> <p>I took a look at one of the entries for the contest, and I was impressed by their creativity!</p> <p>Bearing in mind that we are nowhere near Hollywood standards, but considering the fact that the producers of this commercial look like students – I think they guys did a very good job.</p> <p>The results are not out yet, but I think this commercial gets my vote! </p> <div class="wlWriterSmartContent" id="scid:5737277B-5D6D-4f48-ABFC-DD9C333F4C5D:d5c18393-e4d0-4065-93ca-51a467595df4" style="padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; float: none; padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-top: 0px"> <div id="27a21dba-bf96-4387-a8d8-5d71eb523a66" style="padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-top: 0px"> <div><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SD7qzjraupo&hl=en&fs=1&&hl=en" width="425" height="355" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" /></div> </div> </div> <p> </p> <div class="wlWriterSmartContent" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:7e27d22b-4926-40bf-94c9-1c3f3b7c3dc7" style="padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; float: none; padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-top: 0px">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Pringles+Competition" rel="tag">Pringles Competition</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/It's+Krrunch+Time" rel="tag">It's Krrunch Time</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Nuffnang+Commpetition" rel="tag">Nuffnang Commpetition</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Nuffnang+Pringles+Competition" rel="tag">Nuffnang Pringles Competition</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Commercials+in+Singapore" rel="tag">Commercials in Singapore</a></div> Ed or Edmund Tayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09767254822865781652noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5908391013085388041.post-17770684991840850502009-10-26T21:57:00.002+08:002009-10-28T01:56:59.354+08:00Child Development Milestones<p>Nicole has just crossed a milestone! :)</p> <p>Milestones are important in the children’s lives, and recently our oldest girl just crossed one. The most recent Milestone was crossed by <a href="http://edunloaded.blogspot.com/2009/08/nadine-is-starting-to-walk.html">1 year old Nadine</a>.</p> <p>Singapore is filled with food courts, and our 4 year old suddenly had the courage to order food by herself. </p> <p>It’s a little complicated over here in Asia, as most of the hawkers speak a local dialect or would rather converse in Mandarin. </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SuWqqtJIJgI/AAAAAAAADB4/tbhKZidYEE4/s1600-h/economic%20rice%202%5B6%5D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="economic rice 2" border="0" alt="economic rice 2" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SuWqrGHEWGI/AAAAAAAADB8/X1BoFsxbDcE/economic%20rice%202_thumb%5B4%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="424" height="323" /></a> </p> <p>On that fateful day, we armed Nicole with $5 and she willingly went up to the Hawker to order her own food! (We were so proud of her! Even Grandpa who was there, was smiling in approval!)</p> <p>Well, she ordered “economic rice” (rice with dishes), and this is what she ordered:</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SuWqs-A3hgI/AAAAAAAADCA/6wqA6KoF6nE/s1600-h/economic%20rice%201%5B6%5D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="economic rice 1" border="0" alt="economic rice 1" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SuWqtdr6x8I/AAAAAAAADCE/zoP0FTrqwEo/economic%20rice%201_thumb%5B4%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="409" height="299" /></a> </p> <p>Mum is extremely happy with the order. She says it is all “greens”, and very healthy!</p> <p>Daddy did not even realize this revelation, until she pointed it out! </p> <p> </p> <p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:5737277B-5D6D-4f48-ABFC-DD9C333F4C5D:d6c539b0-e2db-4118-a110-3ed2bb989ce6" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent"><div id="5b6b5455-1cb3-4a55-9643-6cd6fb43d688" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; display: inline;"><div><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS705csEk14&hl=en&fs=1&" target="_new"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Suczwu4RBeI/AAAAAAAADCQ/i3qlX3jXZhE/videoc13c83cf85f0%5B5%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('5b6b5455-1cb3-4a55-9643-6cd6fb43d688'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "<div><object width=\"425\" height=\"355\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http://www.youtube.com/v/LS705csEk14&hl=en&fs=1&&hl=en\"><\/param><embed src=\"http://www.youtube.com/v/LS705csEk14&hl=en&fs=1&&hl=en\" type=\"application/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"425\" height=\"355\"><\/embed><\/object><\/div>";" alt=""></a></div></div></div> </p> <p>Parenting Tip – Do record your children’s milestones, as they make great reading, and also subtle reminders about how far they have gone! </p> <p></p> <p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:5af19d85-e8cd-4ee7-a52d-64cf892d8682" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/early+child+development+milestones" rel="tag">early child development milestones</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/milestones+in+child+development" rel="tag">milestones in child development</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/childhood+devlelopment" rel="tag">childhood devlelopment</a></div></p> Ed or Edmund Tayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09767254822865781652noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5908391013085388041.post-29512516466670944922009-10-25T01:18:00.001+08:002009-10-25T01:19:52.746+08:00Best Chicken Satay: Food Review<p>If you are looking for good satay, u have got to try out Chuan Kee Satay at Old Airport Road.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SuM25GDjCrI/AAAAAAAADBo/7CHcZzE1NpE/s1600-h/best%20satay%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="best satay" border="0" alt="best satay" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SuM25tX46_I/AAAAAAAADBs/8mc-k8yl8KY/best%20satay_thumb%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="411" height="313" /></a> </p> <p>The Old Airport Road Hawker Centre is a favourite food haunt for the family, and the kids go there very often. (Check out the children’s <a href="http://edunloaded.blogspot.com/2009/04/good-food-at-old-airport-road.html">views on Old Airport Road here</a>)</p> <p>Located in the second row of stalls from the front, this satay has got to be the best that I have ever tasted!</p> <p>Actually, there are quite a few satay stalls at Old Airport Road, but as I was walking past this stall. I noticed the Makan Sutra Ratings on the stall window!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SuM26FAK3mI/AAAAAAAADBw/JlW_4C72M6o/s1600-h/makansutra2007%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="makansutra2007" border="0" alt="makansutra2007" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SuM26-uQCkI/AAAAAAAADB0/uD6D9VMUrhI/makansutra2007_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="401" height="568" /></a> </p> <p>Yes…This is one of the signs that I look out for, when I go to the hawker centre or to restaurants.</p> <p>Knowing that this stall must produce food of a certain quality, I decided to order a few sticks!</p> <p>My Verdict….</p> <p>The Satay is delicious! It comes very well marinated and it is good enough to eat on its own. The sauce that comes with a pineapple mix, adds to the satay, and this stall is a “die-die must try!” Forget about Satay Club or East Coast Hawker Centre, the satay here is the real deal!</p> <p>When u reach the hawker centre, head for the stall first. The stall is always crowded, and it takes about half an hour during peak hour. </p> <p>However, the auntie has a great memory. I went back the next day to order some satay for my family…She remembered me, and even told me my table number from the day before! I thought that was amazing memory! </p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:84d3db17-a4b0-4698-9fce-16c17b986fc8" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Food+Review" rel="tag">Food Review</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Chicken+Satay" rel="tag">Chicken Satay</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Pork+Satay" rel="tag">Pork Satay</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Mutton+Satay" rel="tag">Mutton Satay</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Hawker+Food+in+Singapore" rel="tag">Hawker Food in Singapore</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Old+Airport+Road+Hawker+Centre" rel="tag">Old Airport Road Hawker Centre</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Makansutra" rel="tag">Makansutra</a></div> Ed or Edmund Tayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09767254822865781652noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5908391013085388041.post-55185470581520380092009-10-22T17:35:00.002+08:002009-10-23T16:22:53.229+08:00Cheapest Petrol In Singapore<p>Calling all drivers!</p><p>Get your cheapest petrol this Saturday on 25 Oct 2009.</p><p>Just got this story from <a href="http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/Story/A1Story20091022-175227.html">Asia1.</a> (So this is definitely not a hoax!)</p><p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SuAnZMJWYGI/AAAAAAAADBg/y_Ezbk4WYWY/s1600-h/shell%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="BORDER-BOTTOM: 0px; BORDER-LEFT: 0px; DISPLAY: inline; BORDER-TOP: 0px; BORDER-RIGHT: 0px" title="shell" border="0" alt="shell" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/SuAnZrTdOjI/AAAAAAAADBk/7OpQk0juVuA/shell_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="400" height="327" /></a> </p><p>From Asia 1:</p><p><span style="color:#0000a0;"><em>“This Saturday (22 Oct) , Shell will launch its biggest fuel promotion in a decade.</em></span></p><p><span style="color:#0000a0;"><em>The oil giant has announced it will retail its new fuel economy formula, Shell FuelSave, 95- and 98-octane petrol at $1 per litre.</em></span></p><p><span style="color:#0000a0;"><em>The promotion will take place on Saturday, Oct 24 and will run from 10am - 6pm at all Shell stations, excluding Pasir Panjang 328, Sing Ming ad Upper Bukit Timah PIE.</em></span></p><p><span style="color:#0000a0;"><em>The discount means motorists will save almost 45 per cent off the discounted pump price.</em></span></p><p><span style="color:#0000a0;"><em>Currently, a litre of Shell's 95- and 98-octane retails at $1.767 and $1.900 respectively before discount.”</em></span></p><p>I will definitely be filling up my petrol tank this weekend.</p><div style="PADDING-BOTTOM: 0px; MARGIN: 0px; PADDING-LEFT: 0px; PADDING-RIGHT: 0px; DISPLAY: inline; FLOAT: none; PADDING-TOP: 0px" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:f4181078-d86d-4a11-8c50-1f3b2cd8d4fa" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/cheap+petrol" rel="tag">cheap petrol</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/shell+promotion" rel="tag">shell promotion</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/buy+cheap+petrol" rel="tag">buy cheap petrol</a></div>Ed or Edmund Tayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09767254822865781652noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5908391013085388041.post-60960531257094500402009-10-21T16:43:00.001+08:002009-10-21T16:45:16.577+08:00Baking cakes & cookies with the kids<p>We are constantly looking for new things to do with the kids, and with the success of the last <a href="http://edunloaded.blogspot.com/2009/03/bread-talks.html">bake out with the kids</a>, we decided to something along those lines again.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/St7JiPczsTI/AAAAAAAADBI/ZCYvGdf3j5M/s1600-h/oreocake4.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="oreo cake" border="0" alt="oreo cake" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/St7JihVI3NI/AAAAAAAADBM/eRjgRSMQtI4/oreocake_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" width="407" height="407" /></a></p> <p>The picture is really enticing – and the moment I picked it off the shelves at the supermarket, Nicole was super-duper excited! This is just one those “freak” accidents where a moment of carelessness will change your life forever.</p> <p>I guess its true – “Details do determine your destiny!” </p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:85092671-6179-447b-81b8-0eccd4b6d7c1" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Baby+falling+onto+train+tracks" rel="tag">Baby falling onto train tracks</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/pram+jogger" rel="tag">pram jogger</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/fall+onto+train+tracks" rel="tag">fall onto train tracks</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/train+running+over+baby" rel="tag">train running over baby</a></div> Ed or Edmund Tayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09767254822865781652noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5908391013085388041.post-46001029263521617372009-10-16T22:19:00.002+08:002009-10-17T18:02:02.748+08:00Restore Deleted Photos<p>Just recently I accidentally deleted some of my photos in my hard disk.</p><p>What happens if the photos cannot be found in the recycle bin? </p><p><strong>Can you still retrieve those precious baby photos? Therefore, even if you overwrite your photos in your SD card, you can still retrieve them!</p><p>Just how powerful is this program?</p><p>Currently, I use a company notebook. When I took over the notebook a year ago, I deleted away the previous users photos.</p><p>Guess what?</p><p>After using the program, I saw the previous user’s photos and any photos before that as well.</p><p>What’s more – you don’t need to be a computer genius to use this program. The interface is simple and easy to use. </p><p>So no need to key in any codes, or interface with any funny and weird symbols :) </p><p>It is no wonder that the computer geeks can retrieve anything from your notebook. </p><p>Remember the series <a href="http://edunloaded.blogspot.com/2008/03/prison-break.html">“Prison Break”,</a> the FBI was still able to retrieve information from Scofield’s Hard Disk, despite the fact that he had thrown it in the river!</p><p>Well, the good side is that – don’t despair!</p><p>We may make mistakes, but the photos are still retrievable.</p><div class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:e876ba04-d5c2-4c7b-b0e9-d931a96a603c" style="PADDING-RIGHT: 0px; DISPLAY: inline; PADDING-LEFT: 0px; FLOAT: none; PADDING-BOTTOM: 0px; MARGIN: 0px; PADDING-TOP: 0px">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Restore+deleted+photos" rel="tag">Restore deleted photos</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Retrieve+photos+from+SD+card" rel="tag">Retrieve photos from SD card</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Photo+Recover" rel="tag">Photo Recover</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Retrieve+Lost+data" rel="tag">Retrieve Lost data</a></div>Ed or Edmund Tayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09767254822865781652noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5908391013085388041.post-25080715688591447902009-10-15T00:01:00.000+08:002009-10-15T00:01:00.273+08:00Avent Sterilizer and Milk Bottles<p>Frankly life as a new parent for me did not start that long ago. </p> <p>Recently, my good friend just had the privilege of being a new father and I had to buy him a sterilizer.</p> <p><strong><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StXy7xmxDXI/AAAAAAAADAQ/kdBsr73JkOo/s1600-h/aventsterilizer6.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="avent sterilizer" border="0" alt="avent sterilizer" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StXy8aPdmwI/AAAAAAAADAU/XFMyqOXzGEs/aventsterilizer_thumb4.jpg?imgmax=800" width="416" height="416" /></a> </strong></p> <p><strong>Why an Avent Sterilizer?</strong></p> <p>Hmm…I think people are very affected by their peers. When we were 1st introduced to the world of Parenting, all our friends were using Avent Products.</p> <p>I think they have quite an established base in Singapore, and all the parents I “know” use their products. </p> <p>With its successful branding and wide neck bottles, these Avent bottles are easy to clean and are also supposed to help reduce colic in newborns.</p> <p>Ok..Don’t worry, this is not an advertorial (How I wish that they will pay me to do this…I don’t mind some Free Avent Products :P)</p> <p>To cut the long story short… As Avent Milk bottles were the way to go, we naturally used an Avent Sterilizer! (much thanks to Ed Tan!) </p> <p>Well, Avent seems to have a lot of sterilizers on the market, and they seem to have put in a bit of their Philips technology into their sterilizers.</p> <p><strong>Parenting Advice</strong></p> <p>Go for the simplest sterilizers. There’s no need for sophisticated technology for this. Don’t forget to our parents, the Sterilizer is a fancy gadget! They just put bottles in boiled water!</p> <p>Now you can find some models with digital screens, electronic countdown and sound alerts. Forget about those! Get the simple ones with a lever that u just depress. I have been using that since 2005, and they work fine. Really!</p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:2ee89437-934b-44af-b8e0-11966bafe984" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Avent+Sterilizer" rel="tag">Avent Sterilizer</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Avent+Milk+Bottles" rel="tag">Avent Milk Bottles</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Baby+Milk+Bottles" rel="tag">Baby Milk Bottles</a></div> Ed or Edmund Tayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09767254822865781652noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5908391013085388041.post-21507579216017495952009-10-14T09:47:00.001+08:002009-10-14T09:47:21.442+08:00Blog Feature: Harvest Times<p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StUtmocFzOI/AAAAAAAAC_o/XE5rKYvS7zg/s1600-h/harvesttimescover%5B3%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="harvesttimescover" border="0" alt="harvesttimescover" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StUtnuxIDDI/AAAAAAAAC_s/mYMGfgBsomQ/harvesttimescover_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="409" height="509" /></a>The kind people of <a href="http://www.harvesttimes.com.sg/">“Harvest Times”</a>, a Christian Publication has featured ED Unloaded in their current issue! </p> <p>Harvest Times is a free online Christian Publication, so you can check out the magazine and it’s past issues on <a href="http://www.harvesttimes.com.sg/">this link</a>.</p> <p>The 4 page feature (page 68-71) highlights past blog posts covered in the children’s lives and covers some of the best stories I blogged about in the last 2 years. We just spent loads of time with them after she left. It just proves that we really need to spend time with the kids, as they do not seem to have very long memories when they are young (Aside: it is no wonder how young Christians seem to forget God very easily). </p> <p>But this extra time with the family seems to have gone a long way with little Nadine!</p> <p>Just a couple of days ago, my 1year 6 month old daughter allowed Daddy to bring her out alone, and we went to visit a friend together. (In the past, we noticed that she didn’t like to be carried by Daddy!) What a change in our relationship! She was very easy and did not make much of a fuss, when we spent some time together.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4UOPRDII/AAAAAAAAC-A/vgWUPFegbWg/s1600-h/JPEG%20Image%20%288010558%29%5B7%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="JPEG Image (8010558)" border="0" alt="JPEG Image (8010558)" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4U2dlHoI/AAAAAAAAC-E/_ce_2LKhhP0/JPEG%20Image%20%288010558%29_thumb%5B5%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="411" height="598" /></a> </p> <p>The most difficult part about having 3 kids, is that you need to spend personal time with each of them. This is something that I am still learning today! </p> <p>Before I go, here are also some interesting places that you can see in Melaka:</p> <p>There is an Observatory Tower that gives you a picturesque view of the old Melaka city.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4V30UHQI/AAAAAAAAC-I/Zpixu6N--Bw/s1600-h/DSC_0061%5B6%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="DSC_0061" border="0" alt="DSC_0061" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4WXrvMPI/AAAAAAAAC-M/CAKGX_f2AMc/DSC_0061_thumb%5B4%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="423" height="289" /></a> </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4XOrD-sI/AAAAAAAAC-Q/BBtro8bs-a4/s1600-h/DSC_0035%5B7%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="DSC_0035" border="0" alt="DSC_0035" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4XnDGoDI/AAAAAAAAC-U/P60yafcckV4/DSC_0035_thumb%5B5%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="413" height="601" /></a> </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4Y_WOcgI/AAAAAAAAC-Y/G6P4awRR2k8/s1600-h/DSC_0031%5B6%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="DSC_0031" border="0" alt="DSC_0031" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4Z7UuiKI/AAAAAAAAC-c/yGh-CzyY5SA/DSC_0031_thumb%5B4%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="420" height="287" /></a> </p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>At just $20 ringget/adult, you will get a real good view of the city.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4a-4awkI/AAAAAAAAC-g/W6HnzG0F4E0/s1600-h/DSC_0011%5B6%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="DSC_0011" border="0" alt="DSC_0011" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4b-z7-aI/AAAAAAAAC-k/FZmqPjFOC4E/DSC_0011_thumb%5B4%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="415" height="284" /></a> </p> <p></p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4dLH0gII/AAAAAAAAC-o/g_2X0d1pdyI/s1600-h/DSC_0014%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="DSC_0014" border="0" alt="DSC_0014" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4d7VKyaI/AAAAAAAAC-s/XJczUZIc8js/DSC_0014_thumb%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="410" height="278" /></a> </p> <p>The Pirate Ship pictured above is also a museum which the kids can visit. Inside, there are various exhibits which will give you a history of Malacca. </p> <p>Malacca also has it’s own version of the Singapore Flyer. </p> <p>It is called the “Eye on Malaysia”</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4fEH42OI/AAAAAAAAC-w/9m9-a6Dw0I4/s1600-h/DSC_0080%5B11%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="DSC_0080" border="0" alt="DSC_0080" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4fu9sDBI/AAAAAAAAC-0/rC2YqWq_rEc/DSC_0080_thumb%5B7%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="413" height="280" /></a> </p> <p></p> <p>This gigantic ferris wheel is much smaller than the one found in Singapore, and at $20 ringget, you will get to go about 4 rounds on this big ferris wheel.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4ia2AMoI/AAAAAAAAC-4/oxw-RdW4H00/s1600-h/DSC_0082%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="DSC_0082" border="0" alt="DSC_0082" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4jOX75cI/AAAAAAAAC-8/ZT2dX1WP364/DSC_0082_thumb%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="411" height="278" /></a> </p> <p>The capsules are much smaller than the ones found in Singapore, and it actually feels as spacious as a Sentosa Cable car.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4kL9g5ZI/AAAAAAAAC_A/lTZ16fnAPgM/s1600-h/Malacca%5B7%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="Malacca" border="0" alt="Malacca" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4kzEPwZI/AAAAAAAAC_E/ariTFWCAcgc/Malacca_thumb%5B5%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="419" height="273" /></a> </p> <p>The ferris wheel actually goes quite fast, so don’t expect the slow rides that u get on the “Singapore Flyer” or on the “London Eye”.</p> <p><strong>If I have money for just 1 ride, which ride would I go for?</strong></p> <p>The Observatory tower wins hands down!</p> <p>Firstly, it is higher than the “Eye on Malaysia” and it also offers a better view. The “Eye” is located too far away from the main city to give a good view of city! </p> <p>One sad thing that I noticed was that – the machines were not well maintained. Despite being less than 2 years old, the parts were already rusting! I’m not sure if these machines can last long at this rate!  </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4l3uxoNI/AAAAAAAAC_I/GNX5J1Iz51A/s1600-h/DSC_0104%5B6%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="DSC_0104" border="0" alt="DSC_0104" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StL4m2EjOsI/AAAAAAAAC_M/zLsa4v_kyCg/DSC_0104_thumb%5B4%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="424" height="563" /></a> </p> <p>However, the kids enjoyed every moment of the ride!</p> <p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:b6e322f0-b2ee-4138-a69c-4c08bfd63c7f" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Building+strong+families" rel="tag">Building strong families</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Quality+time+with+the+family" rel="tag">Quality time with the family</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Melaka+Observation+Tower" rel="tag">Melaka Observation Tower</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Eye+on+Malaysia" rel="tag">Eye on Malaysia</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Things+to+do+in+Melaka" rel="tag">Things to do in Melaka</a></div></p> Ed or Edmund Tayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09767254822865781652noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5908391013085388041.post-9082446846646969972009-10-12T01:17:00.001+08:002009-10-12T01:26:44.703+08:00Peranakan Food in Melaka<p><b>Peranakan</b> and <b>Baba-Nyonya</b> (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditional_Chinese_characters">traditional Chinese</a>: 峇峇娘惹; <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnan">Hokkien</a>: <i>Bā-bā Niû-liá</i>) are terms used for the descendants of late 15th and 16th century Chinese immigrants. It applies especially to the ethnic Chinese populations of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Britain">British</a> Straits Settlements of Malaya and the Dutch-controlled island of Java and other locations.</p> <p>One of the best things about Malacca is the Nyonya food, and as all Singaporeans love eating – Malacca is quite a food paradise!</p> <p>On our first night there, we had dinner at Nyonya Makko. We figured it looked authentic (check out the shop front and the interior deco!)</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITANSEEPI/AAAAAAAAC8s/ntfoYka5kb0/s1600-h/DSC_00809.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="DSC_0080" border="0" alt="DSC_0080" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITBZOFmcI/AAAAAAAAC8w/MPXOPWgi2H0/DSC_0080_thumb7.jpg?imgmax=800" width="419" height="286" /></a> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITCUnPvoI/AAAAAAAAC80/gq3eU3tjAhE/s1600-h/DSC_00836.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="DSC_0083" border="0" alt="DSC_0083" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITDDy97CI/AAAAAAAAC84/FRlCxVCo6zg/DSC_0083_thumb4.jpg?imgmax=800" width="423" height="289" /></a> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITEMrI2SI/AAAAAAAAC88/qkQcyMU6x04/s1600-h/DSC_00905.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="DSC_0090" border="0" alt="DSC_0090" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITE25LaSI/AAAAAAAAC9A/DRkNRoyn2y4/DSC_0090_thumb3.jpg?imgmax=800" width="411" height="278" /></a> </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITGCvt8JI/AAAAAAAAC9E/Gnhrgih2M-8/s1600-h/DSC_00928.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="DSC_0092" border="0" alt="DSC_0092" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITHPM4IbI/AAAAAAAAC9I/BStkPx9vy5k/DSC_0092_thumb6.jpg?imgmax=800" width="412" height="279" /></a> </p> <p>Nadine was excited about eating at the restaurant! </p> <p>When we asked. “Who is hungry?” </p> <p>Nadine was the first to lift up her hands!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITIKYYQoI/AAAAAAAAC9M/L_167mAX130/s1600-h/DSC_008710.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="DSC_0087" border="0" alt="DSC_0087" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITI7Y45SI/AAAAAAAAC9U/Di1AezyMwlE/DSC_0087_thumb8.jpg?imgmax=800" width="423" height="292" /></a> </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITJvxhqnI/AAAAAAAAC9Y/M9lNbddxh_M/s1600-h/DSC_00935.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="DSC_0093" border="0" alt="DSC_0093" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITKajbzqI/AAAAAAAAC9c/81gg3jr7HMo/DSC_0093_thumb3.jpg?imgmax=800" width="420" height="285" /></a> </p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITLVDgI7I/AAAAAAAAC9g/0i8rhCJt-lk/s1600-h/DSC_00977.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="DSC_0097" border="0" alt="DSC_0097" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITLyEF3VI/AAAAAAAAC9k/GiaGqnf-qqQ/DSC_0097_thumb5.jpg?imgmax=800" width="426" height="293" /></a></p> <p>We had the regular Baba favourites – Ayam Buah Keluak, Itek Tim, Chap Chye, Omelette, Fried Chicken. (Notice all the dishes were non-spicy!)</p> <p>The food was authentic, and we liked the Chap Chye especially! It was stewed to bring out all the flavours in the dish. BUT, Jiahui & I felt it was good, but not GREAT. Surely, in a town like this, we can find a place which would get us longing for more!</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITNF8NovI/AAAAAAAAC9o/MZQL1PMSgIo/s1600-h/DSC_0047%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="DSC_0047" border="0" alt="DSC_0047" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITNvbrF-I/AAAAAAAAC9s/0202lWEIBeQ/DSC_0047_thumb%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="417" height="282" /></a> </p> <p>So on the second night, we went for the famous Ole Sayang restaurant. (they were closed on the first night when we drove passed!)</p> <p>This is the restaurant that I frequently visit whenever I’m in Melaka. It also seems to be a favourite with many Singaporeans! </p> <p>Immediately when we entered the place, we all felt excited about the food. It was crowded with large groups of 8-10 people having either friends/colleagues having a after-work meal or family gatherings.</p> <p></p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITO5ztlJI/AAAAAAAAC9w/5YZeRpSb3zU/s1600-h/DSC_0049%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="DSC_0049" border="0" alt="DSC_0049" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/StITPw5_IaI/AAAAAAAAC90/sj1A2Ir0Lnc/DSC_0049_thumb%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="421" height="285" /></a> </p> <p>The menu here is similar to the one found at “Makko”, it is just as authentic, but the food here is much tastier! (it was so good, we forgot to take pictures!!)</p> <p><strong>Overall food verdict:</strong></p> <p>Go for Ole Sayang! Eating at the restaurant is about S$10 per head. </p> <p>Generally, Melaka offers cheap food at very affordable prices. A friend of mine recommended Seri Nyonya which is located inside <a href="http://edunloaded.blogspot.com/2009/10/hotel-equatorial-malacca-family.html">Equatorial Hotel Melaka</a>. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to try out the restaurant. Maybe the next time round! </p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:138e3160-f743-4132-a2ba-2fb753f07765" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Peranakan+Food" rel="tag">Peranakan Food</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Nynonya+food" rel="tag">Nynonya food</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Food+Review" rel="tag">Food Review</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Malacca+food" rel="tag">Malacca food</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Food+in+Melaka" rel="tag">Food in Melaka</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Equatorial+Hotel+Melaka" rel="tag">Equatorial Hotel Melaka</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Ole+Sayang" rel="tag">Ole Sayang</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Makko+Restuarant" rel="tag">Makko Restuarant</a></div> Ed or Edmund Tayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09767254822865781652noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5908391013085388041.post-38613485462372048112009-10-09T00:05:00.003+08:002009-10-10T13:47:00.220+08:00Hotel Equatorial Melaka Review– Family Vacation Destination<p>Malacca is proving to be a very interesting place to visit with the family and it’s a great family vacation destination as well! </p><p>Sited by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the town is now a charming place with lots of traditional eateries and buildings to boast of.</p><p>As usual, good accommodation is the 1st thing that a parent looks for! The 1st question on everyone’s mind is:</p><p>Do you know of any good hotels for a family vacation in Malacca?</p><p>I have stayed in two hotels in Malacca, <a href="http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/mkzrn-renaissance-melaka-hotel/">Renaissance Melaka Hotel</a>, which is managed by the Marriot Group and <a href="http://www.equatorial.com/">Hotel Equatorial</a>. Both are in the 5 Star Category, so they both have generally acceptable levels of service.</p><p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Ss356do3tUI/AAAAAAAAC8M/kkyEhHqm0V4/s1600-h/Hotel_Equatorial_Melaka4.jpg"><img style="BORDER-RIGHT-WIDTH: 0px; DISPLAY: inline; BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 0px; BORDER-BOTTOM-WIDTH: 0px; BORDER-LEFT-WIDTH: 0px" title="Hotel_Equatorial_Melaka" border="0" alt="Hotel_Equatorial_Melaka" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Ss36CoTEojI/AAAAAAAAC8Q/zlt7A3V7aEY/Hotel_Equatorial_Melaka_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" width="416" height="282" /></a></p><p>For Hotel Equatorial, the hotel room is not very big, but rather adequately sized. The picture is rather deceiving, so imagine the room smaller than what is pictured below.</p><p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Ss36NT4mdHI/AAAAAAAAC8U/k96xTMKGMNE/s1600-h/hotel%20equatorial%20room%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="BORDER-BOTTOM: 0px; BORDER-LEFT: 0px; DISPLAY: inline; BORDER-TOP: 0px; BORDER-RIGHT: 0px" title="hotel equatorial room" border="0" alt="hotel equatorial room" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_D_aCZfSdutU/Ss36qaL6ATI/AAAAAAAAC8Y/0P-cPBaa2hs/hotel%20equatorial%20room_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="417" height="229" /></a> </p><p><strong>Parenting Tip for Melaka</strong></p><p>A real plus for Equatorial Melaka is it’s location. Located just next to the biggest mall in Melaka, it is also within walking distance of the Peranakan restaurants & other cafes.</p><p>This is really advantageous when you don’t have a car, and Jonker Street (Famous tourist attraction) is also not too far away.</p><p>I definitely prefer the Equatorial compared to Hotel Renaissance Melaka, which is a bit further away from the city centre. </p><p>They even have a 3D2N Getaway specials where rooms are less than Singapore $150/ night and they come with unlimited internet access.</p><p>Sounds great right! Unfortunately bad things do happen to good people! :(</p><p>Although i paid for this package, I had the unfortunate timing of going to the hotel when their internet access is down. In fact, I am writing this post from a cafe which has internet access.
