The Asus Eee PC 1000H, along with the popular 1000HE, was one of Asus’ first releases of the Eee PC range with a ten inch screen. It carries the standard specifications one might expect from an excellent performer in the field such as the Intel Atom N270 1.6Ghz processor, 1Gb of system memory and between 80GB and 160GB of storage.

Asus no longer produce this netbook, but they have not forgotten their followers. Asus now have a Windows 7 upgrade guide for users with Windows XP or for those who may already have Windows 7 but are looking for further tips, guidelines and other “official” tidbits of information.

Asus recommend a BIOS upgrade first, then the installation of Windows 7, followed by some utilities and drivers and ends with information on the Super Hybrid Engine and the Asus Update software.

So give it a look see and find out what they have to say. Maybe you already know everything in the guide, but a thumbs up to Asus for still supporting the 1000H with user guides, updated drivers and utilities.

It is powered by a 1.33Ghz processor, comes with 1GB of system memory (which can be upgraded to 2GB), features 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a battery with up to 5 hours between charges and will show all of its glory on a 8.9 inch screen which can be folded over when put into tablet mode.

There are three things that distinguish it from the earlier model; The touch screen supports multitouch gestures, it is bundled with Windows 7 Home Premium and the SSD drive has been upgraded from 16GB to 32GB. It will also come with the Asus Eee Storage offer of 500GB of free online storage.

The Windows 7 Line-up for Asus has begun, and all our old favorites are now available (or will be) with new configurations, updates and of course, the new operating system. This will undoubtedly bring a steady stream of news our way after this quiet spell, so watch this space.

The Asus Eee PCs to be brought back into the spotlight include the Eee PC 1005HA, 1005HR, 1008HA, T91MT, 1101HA, 1201HA and the 1201N. That of course doesn’t include two nettops, four all-in-one PCs and two ultra thin and light laptops from Asus.

Most of the above models feature a common configuration of a 1.66Ghz processor, 1GB of system memory and 250GB of hard drive space. The above news suggests that any new needed drivers should be along very, very shortly and some users may already have the new updated software to increase stability and wrinkle out any quirks.

What are Eee Users most looking forward to with the stream of updated releases and new drivers?

It features a 1.6Ghz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB to 32GB SSD storage, a built-in five inch 800 x 640 touch screen display, 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 and will run Windows. You will be able to use the built-in touch screen as a main display or, as intended, hook it up via VGA or wireless HDMI to an external monitor or display. It’s battery is predicted to get up to four hours of use between charges.

For those of you that find the above paragraph is old news, you might be happy to hear that the F.C.C. now has more information for us on this upcoming gem. It has now published a user manual and some photos so we have even more of an idea of what we’re in for here.

The Eee Keyboard was promised to us in the late October time frame, so perhaps Asus are simply gearing up for its release. What are you most looking forward to in the Eee Keyboard?

The Asus Eee PC 1008HA was the first netbook release from Asus to feature the new “Seashell” design, which features a thin, sleek and stylish exterior and weighing a simple 2.4 pounds and being only an inch thick.

Now Asus have given us something special from that same netbook, it’s secrets. Yes, Asus have now published the Linux source code and shows us just what makes the Eee PC 1008HA tick. Could this be a hint that Asus might be releasing a version of the 1008HA that will come default with Moblin Linux instead of Windows?

If you select Linux as the operating system at the above link, there are five different files available to download. These five files are actually five parts to a larger download which comes to about 2.25GB.

So if you are brave and know all about compiling or just want to see what the Eee PC 1008HA source code looks like, take a look and see what you can find. It should be interesting at the very least.

Sometimes you just want to tinker and get your hands dirty and perhaps even more so when you have a gadget that is just begging to be pulled apart so you have can have a look see. Not many netbooks might offer as much temptation as the Eee Seashell range does, and that is exactly what EeeUser Forum member wacou has done.

wacou has written some instructions which are really handy for those wanting to remove the netbook’s casing and have a look at the system internals. The basic guidelines include; pop out the battery, undo some screws, open a few clips, remove the keyboard and some more screws. Then you will have access to all the internals of the machine.

However, this is not for the faint of heart and could void your warranty if you are not careful. But for the adventurous and the curious and those who just want to see what the insides of the 1005HA look like, it’s all yours. Remember to check out the forum thread for more information and further feedback.

The 1101HA will offer Windows 7 Home Premium edition, a 11.6 inch 1366 x 768 screen, the Intel Atom Z520 processor at 1.33Ghz and 2GB of system memory which is expected to carry a price of US$590 as well.

The above prices are more likely to be different, and probably cheaper, once they hit U.S. shores.

Asus have also increased the amount of storage in their online Eee Storage offering. Initially Asus were offering 10GB for Eee users, now they have increased that to 500GB, which is a huge jump of 50x the original offering. So now Eee users have even more space for backups and online storage.

Asus, in their sometimes unusual way of making a future product known, have expressed hints of an upcoming netbook in their Asus Eee PC line called the Asus Eee PC T91MT which will be a multi-touch netbook, not unlike the predecessor the Asus Eee PC T91.

Asus already have a support page available for the Asus Eee PC T91MT, and we are expecting it to arrive sometime in October or November, obviously just in time to be pre-loaded with Windows 7. It will more than likely feature Windows 7 Home Premium, as there are missing features from Windows 7 Starter Edition which this new netbook will require, such as the multitouch feature which is fortunately featured in the Windows 7 Home Premium.

Though the only download at the moment for the Eee PC T91MT is a BIOS file, I’m sure many Eee Users will be anxiously awaiting a user manual to find out more about it.

We will keep you posted on any further developments on their touch screen line of the Asus Eee PCs.
