Beat this toy Brad and Angelina! French Luxury Brand Hermés teamed up with Eurocopter to introduce the “L’helicoptre par Hermès”, the most tricked-out, super-stylish way to fly since the Spruce Goose (look it up). This unprecedented collaboration started as just a design exercise. Italian designer Gabriele Pezzini was brought in to work with Eurocopter engineers and Hermès craftsmen to create the final design. L’helicoptre par Hermès is based on the eurocpter EC135, the company’s best selling lightweight, twin-engined helicopter. Beauty is not just skin deep either, aside from surface changes, Pezzini set out to create small and clever innovations that improved the overall experience for the user and streamlined the helicopter’s production. Pezzini worked closely with Hermès craftsmen and the Eurocopter engineers to create a set of modifications that would transform the basic model into something much more impressive. One of the major modifications was done to the helicopter’s landing gear. Pezzini designed a completely new form that improved the functionality of the step, while being more harmonious with the new paint scheme. Similar treatment was given to the door handles and other exterior parts which would have clashed with the minimal colour pallet. The final design has a distinct style in the spirit of Hermès. All the main surfaces were covered ‘toile h’, one of Hermès’ signature canvases, which has been used to cover the company’s travelware since the 1920’s. The seats and banquettes are covered in calf’s leather and all-in-all, this design comes off very elegant with only the slightest hint at pretense. That is until people find out you paid over 5.6 million Euros for this flying status symbol.

Morph is a concept demonstrating some of the possibilities nanotechnologies might enable in future communication devices. Morph can sense its environment, is energy harvesting and self cleaning.

Morph is a flexible two-piece device that can adapt its shape to different use modes. Nanotechnology enables to have adaptive materials yet rigid forms on demand.
It is also featured in the MoMA online exhibition "Design and the Elastic Mind". It has been a collaboration project of Nokia Research Center and Cambridge Nanoscience Center.

When someone says your car looks or drives like a go-cart it’s not considered a good thing. Despite how much fun they are, it seems no one wants their car compared to one. Maybe transportation designer Florian Dobe can put a spin on the stereotype with this little concept. Sporting tiny 10″ rims, this vehicle is equal parts sportscar and go-cart.

It has been created with two distinct “states” in mind, an open and a closed. In the open state it’s the 2 seater go-cart inspired sportscar, and in the closed sate the seats fold seamlessly into the body to create a sculpture.

Noticed a photoseries from Kenya, Africa. I don't know the exact details, but it is stated that in the beginning of March, members of the Kalenjin and Kisii-tribe were fighting for land. This happened in the Olmelil valley, western Kenya. Twenty deaths are reported.

Most of us here in the United States (that are not of the Jurassic age demographic) have but one point of reference when it comes to sand filled hour glasses. For over 40 years, one of the longest running television shows in history opens with a slow camera zoom on an hour glass ticking away your daily wasted hour of mind numbing melodrama. The voice over is one of the most famous lines ever written for mass media; “Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.” That’s it! Aside from the occasional egg-timer sighting or Flintstones episode, society has moved way beyond need for one of the most ancient of technologies, the sand filled hour glass. Designer Pavel Balykin believes this very retro timepiece is on schedule for a comeback. It’s fittingly called the “Sand+Time Watch” and has the distinct feature of a digital hour glass screen saver mode. It’s a “screen saver” mode, because this particular feature does not actually count time for you. If you want to know the real time, click a button and a more modern interpretation of time, we like to call “numbers”, will appear. Add a motion sensor, like the one used in Apple’s iPhone, and this screen saver mode might get that extra little cool factor to push it into production. What do you think?

Rocky Radio

The Natural Radio concept is a bit convoluted in its approach changing volume and frequency. Instead of dials or buttons, it uses a scale. By placing stones on either sides of the scale, you have organic control over radio. Functionality isn’t really the idea here. This is clearly an attempt to humanize a device that pretty much revolutionized communication. Can you image how many stones you’d have to pack on to get the right volume.

One of the biggest issues with USB peripherals is the protruding nature of any design. From a Bluetooth adaptor to the tiniest of Flash Memory Drives, they all stick out like a sore thumb(drive). This issue with these protrusions is not just aesthetics, but function. USB peripherals are constantly being accidentally ripped out, knocked off or jammed into your computer causing not only damage to the external item but the computer’s USB plug itself. Serbian designer Damjan Stankovic, believes that flexibility in design can solve this problem. His “USBee” Flash Memory Drive won the first prize at the MS Industrial USB Competition held by the Serbian Design Community forum DizajnZona™. Ergonomically designed to bend at life’s will in any direction, this USB flash drive features a vented housing for cooling(I did not realize these needed cooling), and a detachable protective cap that snaps onto the back end of the device when not in use. No word yet if this will go into production, so all claims of memory capacity are a moot point.

Because it can squeeze into really tight spaces between the computer and any other object it cannot cause any physical damage to your PC that happens when the USB is accidentally knocked over.

The electronics are located in an aluminum shell which is covered in yellow silicon/rubber. The bottom part of the USBee has breathing holes within the silicone so that the aluminum can dissipate through and keep device cool.

"Say Somethin'" has been mentioned as a possibility for the next single from Mariah Carey's 6-million-selling The Emancipation of Mimi nearly every time a new single has been released. However, it has been held up for unknown reasons. One explanation that was tossed out was because Mariah Carey does not share production credits on the song like she does on most of her material. "Say Somethin'" is credited solely to the Neptunes as producers. Whatever the reason, it is here at last and it is an event.

The song doesn't amount to much more than a midtempo seduction, but with the near perfect vocal match of Mariah Carey and rapper Snoop Dogg nothing more is needed. Carey was one of the first mainstream pop artists to openly express her love for hip hop and collaborate with hip hop artists. Now that these collaborations are the norm Mariah pulls together the Neptunes, arguably the top production team in the business, and Snoop Dogg, already a rap living legend and still one of the most distinctive voices in hip hop. Food consumption and transportation can be very uncomfortable during a journey. “Boxcooler” a backpack fridge with picnic dishes, revalues the cooler and raises it to a modern standard.

There are two ways to carry. On one side it can conveniently be carried on the back, so the user’s hands are relieved. On the other side, the cover hinge (which is hollow inside and has access from the back) can be used as a handle. Carabines on the shoulder cushions can be fixed at the headrests inside a car. They ensure an immovable position during the journey. Even in an accident, the product is fixed at the back of the seat and can’t cause any danger.

Thermoelectric Peltier elements replace the traditional “freezer batteries” which defrost after a while. Therefore, the food inside stays fresh and cool for a longer time. They are supplied by a storage cell which can be reloaded inside the car or at home. Inside the pockets are compact tablets with all the equipment needed for a picnic. A foldable cup, a knife, spoon and fork are moulded into the tablet surface. All these parts are developed to use a minimal amount of space with a maximum of function.
