Since the beginning of 2011, we have been broadcasting on a new European AM/Medium Wave frequency of 1368 kHz, covering the city of Rome (population 2.7 million) and the North East of Italy (Venice, Padua, Verona, Vicenza, Bologna and vicinities, population around 3 million) from 7 PM until 2 AM Central European Time every night, and from 6AM until 8AM every day.

All broadcasts can also be heard in the border countries of Slovenia. Croatia, Austria, Switzerland, southern Germany and eastern part of France after 7 PM until 7:30 AM (nighttime) approx Central European Time. Listeners' letters on 1368 kHz have been received also from Spain, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden. The total potential coverage is approximately 143 million people, of whom ca. 68 million speak English as a first or second language. Nighttime coverage is approximately within the darker zone in the coverage map below, including the lighter area close to the transmitter). Daytime coverage is also available for programs in Italian (in the smaller, lighter circle in the coverage map).

Over this new voice in Europe we are repeating some of the programs being broadcasted on European Gospel Radio, IPAR (International Public Access Radio) and IRRS-Shortwave on Shortwave, in addition to music, news and information in English.

The March 2013 edition of Radio World Int'l magazine, available digitally free of charge, carries an article on their front page dedicated to our international broadcasting mission.

The article features European Gospel Radio and NEXUS-IBA story going back from the late 1970's when we started relaying programs in English on FM radio in Milan, Italy, and then expanded our broadcasts on the Internet, AM/Medium Wave and via shortwave to cover the entire world.

The article also mentions briefly our own CDN technology called WorldDirector, developed internally at NEXUS-IBA to distribute our Christian radio and TV programs over the Internet, via our web farms in North America, Europe and Asia.

The Shortwave antenna displayed in the RWI article is actually a short range log-periodic antenna used only for local broadcast at reduced power up to 100 kW, while the more sophisticated long distance antennas used at 150 and 300 kW are shown on our web site.

Donate now!

Donate now to support our projects in broadcasting and electronic media!

Your donation makes a difference. European Gospel Radio is a project of NEXUS-International Broadcasting Association (NEXUS-IBA), a non-profit association which has elected to do something different in the world of media and free flow of information. Our radio broadcasting Internet services are built on the premise that profits are not the be-all and end-all of broadcasting. We are an all-volunteer cooperative with less than 15 people giving their spare time to keep us alive.

We do this largely because we are a free organization with NO political or religious ties, and because of the free access policies of our operation. Since 1979, when all this began, anyone with anything halfway sensible to say has been able to access our microphones and send their unabridged message worldwide, even if it meant having to run the risk of criticism. In fact, ours is one of the very few experiments in genuinely cultural, religious (non denominational), free-speech and open media access with a truly global outreach since the early beginning.

In addition to Shortwave and AM/Medium Wave, we are also on the Internet. Needless to say, our multimedia platform is very demanding, both in time as well as financially. We carry no advertising on our stations, and currently there is no commercial sponsorship except the active support of our volunteers, our Association members, and our listeners.

We want to continue to provide our services to the global community, to regions and troubled places where others cannot reach an audience, and that's why we're now asking for your support by subscribing to European Gospel Radio and NEXUS-IBA.

Why should I donate?

As a volunteer-based organization, NEXUS-IBA and European Gospel Radio stand most in need of dedicated volunteers who can work on our broadcasting and media related projects. NEXUS-IBA provides the infrastructure for the projects and most all of the administrative effort is currently through unpaid volunteers. Still we need financial assistance i.e. to purchase spare parts for our transmitters, hardware, software, tubes (valves), electricity, rent, bandwidth in order to keep our servers up and our radio transmitters running for the benefit of our international community.

Donate now via PayPal

Individuals and companies can donate funds to support European Gospel Radio and NEXUS-IBA projects. You can contribute via PayPal by clicking on the PayPal icons below:

Donate now in US dollars!

Donate now in Euros!

Amounts will charged directly in Euros or US Dollars or Pounds Sterling with direct debit to your Paypal account, Visa, Mastercard, Amex or Discover cards.

Donate now via Credit card on NEXUS-IBA secure web site

You can also send your donation online using Visa or Mastercard via our secure server, by clicking on the icon below:

Please use our secure donation form to donate amounts in Euros. Any amount donated in US Dollars will be converted in Euros at the official rate of exchange when we process your donation.

If I donate financially, where would my donations go?

Currently, the bulk of our financial obligations are going towards providing our technical infrastructure - transmitters airtime and servers bandwidth that we require. Often we are unable to air some of the programs we are asked to broadcast, because of lack of funds to pay for the electricity and transmitter time.

NEXUS-IBA broadcasts to the Middle East On Shortwave radio and via streaming audio & video we reach daily the most troubled regions of the world, including Palestine, Gaza, Israel, Africa (i.e. Sudan, Darfour, the Congo), and the Middle and Far East (Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, China, India, Pakistan, etc.). Sometime we reach these and other parts of the world with just special or weekly broadcasts if donors are unable to provide funding for daily coverage.

If you have a specific target or project that you wish to directly support, please contact us and we will do our best to satisfy your wishes. We gladly accept support for our Christian radio ministry (European Gospel Radio), as well as for other cultural and free-speech (IPAR - International Public Access Radio) initiatives.

Wow! What a response from our recently started broadcasts to the Far East! We now reach Europe, Middle East, India, China, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, the whole of Asia and the Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand. Reports of clear reception on our world-wide frequency at 300 kW have been also received from Europe and the USA. All this huge area in the world with one high power broadcast!

We want to give you an update on our worldwide radio mission. As we continue to work with churches and religious organizations to bring their Christian message to the most remote areas in the world, we are rewarded by flow of testimonies of listeners from all over the world who tune into our missionary broadcasts.

We are glad to be partner with many US and International missions who bring their messages of Evangelism, Faith and Salvation to the world. Those who believe in our radio mission are truly missionary organizations, that only care to bring the message of Christ to the poorest and most remote lands in the world. Without their financial support we would not be able to reach these locations in the world. Thank you!

Most of the listeners' response is going directly to the program producers who usually respond directly by email or post to listeners' inquires, but as a policy we always forward any correspondence to them, unless the very rare cases in which listeners do not give us permission to do so.

Reach out to Europe, North Africa and Middle East

How does shortwave radio work?

Standard AM and FM stations lose their power as their signals dissipate along the ground over long distances. In shortwave, the opposite is true. The Earth is encased in an invisible covering of gases called the Ionosphere. This acts like a mirror, reflecting shortwave signals back to Earth, thus making it possible to cover vast distances with a single transmitter. This is why shortwave is so efficient and cost-effective. In the case of IRRS-Shortwave, this means you can cover Europe for the same or less money than it would cost to reach just one local market at home.

Christian broadcasting organizations, Church leaders and Pastors placed placed their trust in us to provide a radio link between their programs and our European listener.

We take this trust seriously, and want not only to place the best possible transmission facilities at your disposal, but also to give you the benefit of our experience and knowledge of the Shortwave broadcast medium and the European audience, which goes back nearly a quarter of a century.

Europe, north Africa and Middle East

Historically, Europe has been our main target since we began operating with an omni-directional antenna in 1988. As we began increasing transmitter power to 100, 150 and 300 kW, we started using directional antennas, that are able to target European Gospel Radio to any country or continent in the world. Custom broadcast can be set using our high gain, directional antenna that optimize reception on the desired target.

We strive to provide you with the highest quality broadcasts

On Shortwave, each broadcast can cover a huge territory, such as one or more continents, one or several countries altogether.

It's easy to spend donors' money and resources buying airtime on a station that cannot be heard, because it cannot reach the target, or simply because they may be interfered by other stations. You may also be using old transmitters or bad frequencies, at nominal (not real) transmitter powers that may not be doing a good job.

Transmitter power is not the only thing that counts in reaching our targets. We also use modern, well maintained, digitally controlled, DRM capable transmitters, with excellent modulation and excellent antennas. We also take all necessary care to provide a good frequency to each broadcast. We provide direct international frequency coordination with all world stations, governments and private broadcasters, and are able to select the best time and antenna to offer you the best possible signal on each target.

Give the Europeal Gospel radio team a chance to reach out to the world!

We've often heard stories of fake radio stations, fake (paid) broadcasts, fake listeners reports and fake “I’ve Seen The Light” letters sent through networks organized by radio brokers and agencies. On some occasions we have even helped Christian ministries in uncovering those un-ethical and fraudulent schemes.

Europe is just one of our targets. We cover any region in the world by selecting the right transmitter power, the best antenna, a good frequency and the most correct time for your target.

If you are ever in doubt on whether you are really reaching your audience with your own station, at any time you are welcome to ask us to monitor your existing broadcasts. We'll be glad to check and compare the effecttiveness of your broadcast at almost any location in the world, and provide you with a competitive signal in your desired target area.

It goes without saying that we stand ready to answer any specific question or request you may have. We strive to help our Christiam broadcasters in every way possible to make their mission a success, and exploit the potential of saving millions of souls with just one single broadcast, at a very reasonable cost. Please do contact us for any additional information.

We've just recently started broadcasting using 150 and 300 kW to Middle East, Asia and the Pacific.

We are quite excited, because with just one single broadcast we cover an extremely large area of the world, including East Africa (i.e. Somalia, Ethiopia), Middle East (Arabian peninsula, Iran, Iraq), Asia (Afghanistan, India, China, Burma/Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, etc.) and our signal is also heard strong as far away as Japan, until the far end of the beam in Australia and New Zealand.

There are many US and British soldiers in these areas that we can reach also, if we could only alert them all to tune in (maybe through their relatives in the USA and UK).

There is about +3 to +10 hrs time difference from 13 UTC in all these regions and we reach these targets in the late afternoon (in Mid East) to the evening prime time in the more distant countries in Asia and the Pacific, and no later than midnight local time in Australia & NZ.

In the meantime, listeners' reports have been received from India, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, China, Australia and the USA. Since propagation works strangely at night, our listeners and monitoring stations report that we do indeed reach well also the areas in central and NE China and Japan that are not on our primary beam.

Calling Africa

At the end of last year European Gospel Radio started three daily hours on high power Shortwave (150 kW) beamed to Africa, specifically to the most troubled areas of Sudan and Darfur. These broadcasts, however, can be heard all over the African continent.

With a south directional beam from Europe, our signal reaches extremely well the whole African continent, from Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia on the Mediterranean, East, Central and West Africa all the way down to South Africa, and the greatest part of Southern and Central Europe as well. The program is produced directly in Sudan, aired locally on a few FM stations in larger towns, and then transferred live by satellite to our station.

From Europe we then beam it on Shortwave so that people in the remote areas of Africa can pick up the signal on Shortwave radios. So far. after six months of regular broadcasts, the results have been great, and we all feel blessed of being able to provide some relief to these troubled regions.

Our missionary outreach

In 1979 we started with a small English speaking FM station in Milan, Italy. Our vision since the early days has been to bring the message of many US and International organizations to those areas that hey were unable to cover by themselves.

In 1988 we began broadcasting on International Shortwave radio to Central and Eastern Europe. At that time The Cold War still divided Europe into two parts along the borders of NATO and Warsaw Pact states.

Most countries such as Eastern Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, the Soviet Union, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, the so called Baltic countries, were sealed from the Western world. No paper media, no radio or TV (except in the border regions) was able to spread to the other side of the iron curtain. At that time there was no email, no Facebook, no Google, no Internet and no satellite TV or radio.

Our Shortwave stations can travel long distances and still today, as back in the 1980's we are able to bring a message of Evangelism, as well as news, music and feature programs to those lands that cannot be reached otherwise by the so-called new media.

Early in 1994, we added Internet audio and video streaming, via several relay locations (data-centres) in Europe, Asia and the Americas to better serve our audience via our own Content Delivery Network (CDN). Today we operate several audio and video streams 24 hrs a day, in different languages, on behalf of our associated Ministries and Churches from around the world.

Most recently, we added new digital transmitters up to 300 kW and long distance antennas to reach any region in the world. From Europe our signal is being reported in almost every nation in the world.

Today we also provide managed internet and broadcasting services, consulting and advice to Ministries who want to reach their audience on satellite television, radio and over the internet, not only in Europe, but in any other region in the world.

Our websites at European Gospel Radio and NEXUS-IBA provide plenty of information on how to use our services and bring your own message to the world.

There is no other media today to be blessed with such a wide area, and such a large number of listeners at any one time. Even the Internet cannot beat a small portable Shortwave radio outside of large towns, and especially if you are bringing your message to the poorest regions in the world like Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe.

During almost 20 years of operation on Shortwave, we discovered that good advice is essential for every mission. And we are here to help any of you to reach out in the most effective way.

The value of Shortwave

Shortwave radio remains one of the key electronic media for reaching the maximum number of potential listeners in Europe. Africa, the Middle East, Asia, the Pacific, and certain regions in the Americas. This is proved by the fact that the world’s biggest international broadcast organizations continue their activities via Shortwave, and are investing heavily in new studio and transmission facilities. In recent history, The Gulf and the most recent Iraq War demonstrated once again and most impressively how important a telecommunications tool shortwave is in reaching a vast audience using inexpensive but highly powerful modern receivers that can be put in a suitcase or pocket. Shortwave is everywhere. It is the world’s most mobile medium. Ironically, it was the propaganda machine of Nazi Germany that recognized the power of Shortwave and perfected its use in the Second World War.

Today, Shortwave is one of the greatest weapons in the fight for morality.

Well, then it stands to reason that if we get to know God’s best friends real well, we will get to know a whole lot about God, won’t we? Let’s then make some observations of those that he used, each in a mighty way. I was in the emergency ward one night. I had a benign tumour in my chest that was causing indescribable pain. I was vomiting the painkillers and had extremely low iron and a lung infection as well as a gastro virus. I was in hospital alone and on a drip of water and maxillon (anti-nauseous drug). I had a reaction to the drug and thought that was the end for me. I was alone (my boyfriend at a party because I had been sick for two years so it was no surprise). I left the hospital about three hours later and stayed in bed for about 2 days. A week later I was really scared and didnt know what my body would do next.

He Made the Blind to See

"He Made the Blind to See", this is the theme of todays Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, broadcast starting at 2100 CET on 5,775 kHz, via European Gospel Radio:

This is the third sermon on John chapter 9. An unnamed blind beggar is receiving his sight. What was the reason? According to Jesus, He sought out this beggar “in order that the works of God should be made manifest in him”.

Astounding contrasts: The Pharisees, in their carnal mind, excommunicated this formerly blind beggar, because he did not want to deny that Jesus was from God. These graduates from honored seats of learning were corrected by this untrained new disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ.

On the other hand we see what Divine grace can do. It brings a beggar to the feet of the Savior. It gives him a wisdom that exceeds the wisdom of the Pharisees. His logic is impeccable: “One thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see”.

There I had a friend who worked as a scientist in a group investigating elementary particles.

Sometimes he took me with him, so I could see how they do experiments. After their experiments the scientists would meet in a cafe shop to discuss their conclusions. I asked them about the reason why some things which were impossible to happen, yet they did happen. For example: how could a particle traverse an energy barrier which it could not pass. On my question on how this could happen, they answered that there is a spiritual world, and God is interacting with the physical universe.

European Gospel Radio is operating broadcasting services to reach listeners worldwide with powerful shortave transmitters using 150 and 300 kW, via satellite radio & TV, internet radio and video streaming and now also on AM/Mediumwave in Rome and Central Europe.

According to our experience Shortwave radio is still a unique, very low cost and far reaching opportunity to bring a message to the remote lands of China, India, Africa, the Middle East and the former Soviet Union. A radio message on Shortwave radio reaches millions of people far away and over large territories at a fraction of the cost of conventional media, especially when FM, TV or satellite reception is not available. From our unique position in the South-Eastern part of Europe we can reach all the most troubled, conflict and poorest region of the world where Shortwave is just about the only way to receive a message of salvation.

On Shortwave we reach daily Africa, Mid and Far East, Asia, Pacific. Other regions can be specifically targetd using high power broadasts and directional antennas.

On AM/Medium Wave we broadcast from just a few blocks from the Vatican and from the city of Padua, and we reach the city of Rome, the North Eastern part of Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland and southern Germany every evening and night with English language broadcasts.

With the recently addition of AM/Medium wave and Internet streaming services we can offer competitive bundles to reach Rome and most populated areas of Norther Italy.

We are running a special promotion for Christian stations and program producers. For more information check our website at or email us at: info@egradio.org with promo code THANKS2012

New broadcasts to West Africa

On Sunday Feb. 8, 2004, IRRS starts new test broadcasts to North (Mediterranean) and West Africa using a powerful 100 kW beam. These broadcasts are intended to cover a large segment of listeners who live in the large populated areas of North Africa over the Mediterreanean sea, and especially those living in tents and refugee camps in the desert.

Among them over 170,000 people are living in four refugee camps in the harsh southern Algerian desert in West Africa. For the last twenty years these refugees have been forced to live in tents, and Shortwave radio is just about the only communication media able to reach them.

Broadcasts to this area are part of a co-operation project involving several Italian organizations and Regione Emilia Romagna. The goal of the project is to re-enforce communication with the Sarahawi people that to this day use Shortwave radio as one of the most valuable communication media to the outside world.

EGR heard loud and clear in Australia

We are receiving reports from the Pacific that our Friday evening broadcasts using 100 kW are reaching Australia and New Zealand with a "loud and clear" signal.

A listeners in Australia tells us: "Ive just tuned in on 5.775KHz, just on sunrise here in SE Australia, at 19.25 hrs, with a Panasonic DR48. Sounds like a religious man speaking about Gods Grace (Reading from Epistle to the Romans at 1932 hrs), with a 60 metre longwire, pushing about an S7 to 9 with 100% readability. Signal prior to sunrise is excellant 9+30, first time Ive listened to IRRS. Also listening with the 16kbps stream, which is nice."

Another listener writes us : "I just thought I would inform you now of how well your signal was received here in Eastern Australia in Port Macquarie, N.S.W."

These are just some of the messages that we receive, and tells us how European Gospel Radio broadcasts on Shortwave and over the Internet can reach far away countries, and indeed are going far beyond our intended target areas.

Our audience on Shortwave

Even the largest broadcasters on Shortwave cannot accurately estimate the size of their audience to any program they air on Shortwave, to the same or even a comparable level of accuracy that any FM or TV station can do for any particular market. Since 1979, we have been working with several Radio Ministries, the BBC, the United Nations, UNESCO and other major International broadcasters and media, and with those involved in audience and International media research. Only the largest organizations like the BBC or Voice of America can afford the cost of conducting some sort of audience research on Shortwave. Some empirical data exists on the number of Shortwave receivers in each country, that lead to a potential audience of more than 10 millions in Europe and about the same in in N Africa and the Middle East, i.e. regions that we are able to cover with a Grade-A signal using our newly started 100 kW service. Most of the time we know that people are listening, because we monitor continuously our signal quality in several countries, and because listeners write us and/or to our members or program producers.

European Gospel Radio: Our target areas

Reception reports and our monitors indicates that IRRS-Shortwave signal with our 20 kW stream may be received with a clear signal all over Europe. Fringe reception depending on propagation conditions at the time of broadcasts allow reception outside our primary target area, i.e. in N America, Africa, and the Pacific.

Higher power broadcasts starting at 25, 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1,000 kW will reach areas well outside our primary target (Europe). If you are interested in other areas than Europe, please contact us for other options and rates, specifying your preferred target area. In most cases we may custom plan a broadcast to any region of the world and present you with a proposal in just a few hours.

How do I qualify to air on European Gospel Radio?

Any religious program producer or organization qualifies to air via European Gospel Radio. All of our media services operate on a strictly non denominational, non discriminatory basis. Our charter and mission says: "Pluralism of information is to be assured, with particular attention paid to minorities; above all ethnic, cultural, political, and religious minorities, without regard to race, sex, language, or political or religious beliefs, and in full accordance with the Human Rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Italy and by International Law"

As a non profit, broadcaster-supported organization, all of our costs are supported by members contributions and grants. We require that each members bears the cost of the use of any NEXUS-IBAs broadcasting facility, according to the time and transmitter powers required. The non-profit NEXUS-IBA system has cut overhead to the bone, but not at the cost of quality service! The small, dedicated NEXUS-IBA staff is for the most part volunteer. This fact, along with computerization coupled with state-of-the-art transmission equipment ensure NEXUS-IBA members reliable, top quality coverage at cost.

How does shortwave work?

Standard AM and FM stations lose their power as their signals dissipate along the ground over long distances. In Shortwave, the opposite is true. The Earth is encased in an invisible covering of gases called the Ionosphere. This acts like a mirror, reflecting shortwave signals back to Earth, thus making it possible to cover vast distances with a single transmitter. This is why shortwave is so efficient and cost-effective. In the case of European Gospel Radio, this means you can cover any target in Europe or beyond for the same or less money than it would cost to reach just one local market at home.

We receive and publish a segment of the latest newsletter from the Danish Shortwave Club International:

Dear friends, December 29, 2004

On Dec 26 the worst Earthquake on Earth in 40 years happened underwater southwest of Aceh Province, Sumatra. Enormous seismic Sea waves (in Japanese called Tsunami) hit the coasts in most countries around the Indian Ocean, causing devastating damages and more than 60000 people at the beaches killed or disappeared into the Sea. This natural catastrophe came without warning and all media covered this tragic event. On Sri Lanka alone, more than 22000 people are reported dead.

Our member, Victor Goonetilleke, living 10 km inland south of Colombo wrote on Dec 27: ” All of us are OK here. Trying hard to organize some emergency communications (Victor is also a very active radio amateur! Ed) and also doing some food distributions and things like that. Since the affected areas are so widespread things are very hard. Everyone within 1000 metres or so of the coast have been badly affected right along the coast from North to South on the eastern side of the island. In some areas as far in as 2-3kms. On the Western side not so bad, about 100 metres from the coast, as the quake was on the Eastern side of the island and the tidal waves came from the East/ S. East. You would have seen the vast destruction. Frightening.. Regards , Victor”.

Pastor Alfred Chompff sent us a comment of Fridays Dec. 10, 2004 broadcast on 5,775 kHz (2000-2100 UTC):

This is the second sermon on John chapter 9. God uses the healing of this blind man as a type or picture of salvation. The formerly blind man said to the Pharisees, “He opened My Eyes”. God did it 100%. I did not ask for it, and neither did I deserve it. Salvation is entirely by grace. By definition “grace” is a free gift from God, like John 1:13 says, “Which were born (again), not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God”.
