Does this W2 tranmitter sent out PCM digital signal (according to Sound & Vision magzine) to the receiver then the receiver decos the signal through its internal DAC and output the analog signal through its coax output? Or just like numerous other ipod docks to transmit an analog signal but via wireless?

The comparison vs. the Popcorn Hour is off: I don't get their comparison over the wireless, it's OPTIONAL on both and the PH has a wireless USB adapter on their site for sale, so what's the point in their comparison?

I'd be interesting in knowing what they are patenting? The ability to connect an external antenna? the abaility to connect an external antenna via RP-SMA connectors?

I'm pretty sure the reason we are saddled with the RP-SMA connectors instead of standard SMA connectors for WiFi stuff is simply to appease the FCC and make it harder for consumers to swap out antennae and boost signals.

What I want to know is if they are even legal for sale and use in the US. Somehow I doubt that they've gone through a FCC certification process.

Scepticism is probably a good thing at this point. I’m looking forward to seeing some demos of Xtreamer in action. The specs look good, but I’m curious what the UI is like and how well it operates.

Have a look into XBMC. Ive just done pretty much the same thing by butchering an XBox. Just point it at my network drive for the movies. The advantage to XBMC is that it will organise everything into a library, download the dvd covers, actor info and lots of other cool stuff. It also has a program built in which downloads all the new movie trailers.

I’ll buy a Zune just because it supports the “Album Artist” tag. Why Apple doesn’t is beyond me. A fully support the one application concept touted in this post. There is no reason for MS to have Zune, WMP and Media Center software. Give me one ap, make it have advanced tagging capability like “Tag and Rename” for music and “Open Media Library” for movies.

My only comment here is that people will pay premiums for premium products. Subsidize this with the fastest processor to give it snappy / instant response to inputs, and multi-tasking and it might be enough to convince some people. But, I wouldn’t follow iPods lead on pricing exactly.

Also, for this to be successful, they need an incentive program to steal top developers from apple’s platform. The App Store / Marketplace is key.

Stuff it with enough memory to hold a LOT of content, and jam it with the best battery you can get in there while they are at it.

Bundle a free subscription to Rhapsody, or some other service. MS also needs to enable a better source for content. If I were them, I’d just buy Rhapsody.

If I could change one thing about the go-forward Zune strategy, it would be the name. Zune leaves so much to be desired. THey should keep “Zune” for their basic music player, but come up with something more intriguing for their new lineup, maybe keep the “z” for the modifier. Even something as simple as zPad, zPlayer, zTouch, zDevice… Anything but Zune. Anyway, I think MS is on the right track.
