Web hosting and Internet services provider H4Y Technologies (www.h4y.us) has acquired Oregon-based web host iWebFusion Technologies (www.iwebfusion.net), which will continue to operate as a separate brand in the H4Y Technologies group along with its primary brand, Host4Yourself.com.

According to H4Y’s Thursday announcement, iWebFusion brings an entirely new customer base to H4Y. Host4Yourself focuses on development, enterprise class and mission critical managed hosting, dedicated servers, and colocation, while iWebFusion.net has built a successful name for itself for its economical shared, reseller, and virtual private server product lines.

“As if Host4Yourself.com didn’t already offer a huge range of options to our clients, the purchase of iWebFusion.net should make us attractive to just about every conceivable consumer and business,” H4Y web administrator and owner Evan Kamlet said in a statement. “With the resources and capital on tap at H4Y, we foresee a very rosy picture for iWebFusion.net in the coming months and years. It is very exciting for all of us”.

iWebFusion.net’s staff, billing, and structure will not change, according to the announcement, and customer services will not be interrupted or affected in any way because no equipment will be moved. Also easing the transition — some of iWebFusion.net’s equipment was already under the ownership of H4Y before the acquisition.

Management is currently considering changing the pricing model, however, clients have been guaranteed that existing accounts will never increase in price, nor will future sign-ups for clients with existing accounts.

H4Y also announced on Thursday that has signed a partnership arrangement with Monticello, Iowa, data center United States Secure Hosting Center (www.usshc.com) to offer a new line of mission-critical hosting products to Host4Yourself.com customers who want the “the most secure data center in the United States.” Built by the US government as a communications facility during the cold war era in the years following the Cuban Missile Crisis, USSHC is resistant to multi-megaton nuclear weapons and electro-magnetic pulses. iWebFusion VPS nodes and dedicated servers currently occupy a small portion of space at this facility, and H4Y plans to add new customers to it.

Two years after launching its second Calgary data center, Canadian outsourced data center infrastructure provider Q9 Networks (www.q9.com) has opened its third data center in the Calgary area, which has a potential total capacity of more than 10,000 cabinet equivalents.

According to Q9’s Thursday announcement, the first phase of the data center, costing $50 million, will support 1,200 cabinet equivalents, more than 38 percent of which has already been reserved. Additional capacity will be brought online as required.

“The launch of this data center, our largest to date in Calgary, further strengthens Q9’s leading position in Western Canada,” Q9 chief executive officer Osama Arafat said in a statement. “Calgary is a strategic market where we have invested more than $90 million since 2002. We are committed to meeting the growing needs of our customers in all the geographies we serve and this data center is a significant part of Q9’s continuing program of expansion.”

The new data center’s infrastructure was built to the same exacting standards as all Q9 data centers and includes such features as outside air cooling capability to maximize energy efficiency, biometric security systems, multiple connections to the Internet, redundant power, HVAC and fire suppression systems, as well as 7/24 on-site security and technical support teams.

Q9’s unique network offers 100-percent uptime service level agreements on both power and network availability. Customer equipment and data center environmental parameters are monitored 7/24 by Q9’s Control center, staffed by experts versed in all aspects of IT and facilities management.

Q9 provides services to some of Canada’s most important organizations. Earlier this year, it signed a 15-year data center services agreement, worth more than $100 million, with public sector business process and information technology outsourcing provider EDS Advanced Solutions (www.edsadvancedsolutions.com) to support its contract to provide data center services to the British Columbia Ministry of Labour and Citizens’ Services.

Web hosting provider Rackspace (www.rackspace.com) announced on Thursday it is enhancing its portfolio of services designed for the needs of large enterprises with a focus on managed storage, disaster recovery and application-level hosting.

According to the press release, these new services are “designed to meet the enterprise-grade needs of large organizations across all industries with a focus on performance, flexibility and control.”

“Rackspace’s enterprise solutions can allow our customers to respond quickly to market changes, yet stay mindful of risky capital expenditures and rapidly evolving technologies,” says Taylor Rhodes, VP and GM of enterprise services for Rackspace. “We evolve our enterprise offerings based on customer feedback. They’re telling us they need a partner to provide important but non-strategic functions, and they want to buy them as services rather than pouring their own

capital and IT resources into them. We are now able to offer our most complex customers solutions designed for their storage and data replication needs.”

This demand for enterprise-class storage and replication services is driven by regulatory compliance, online transaction processing and rich media, says Rackspace.

The company will strive to meet the needs of these enterprise customers by offering dedicated SAN which uses Dell EMC CX4 Array technology, and dedicated NAS enterprise-class managed storage solutions which is built on NetApp technology.

Both provide high performance, flexible and fully managed storage services that are customized for the mission critical data assurance needs of the enterprise.

Rackspace recently launched its Disaster Recovery Services portfolio, which lets users recover and reinstate mission-critical data in the event of an unplanned regional disaster or outage. These services include Host Based Replication, Enterprise Replication Services, and Professional Services.

The new Messaging & Collaboration Solutions provides an alernative to managing Exchange and SharePoint environments in-house.

The company has enhanced its dedicated application hosting offerings, including Microsoft Exchange 2007 and SharePoint. The service offerings include the design, deployment, hosting, support, and administration of Microsoft Exchange and/or SharePoint on dedicated servers by a team of experts.

Private-label reseller web hosting automation solutions developer ResellersPanel (www.resellerspanel.com) has added the Elefante Toolbar to its control panel, allowing a direct installation of nearly 40 open-source PHP scripts on customers’ websites.

The Elefante Toolbar is available in the file manager, domain manager and sub-domain manager sections of clients’ Web Hosting Control Panel, according to ResellersPanel’s Friday announcement, and users only have to choose a script, pick a desired host location where it will be installed and simply hit the install button. It saves users’ time by automatically choosing a database, path, password, username, and other parameters.

Customers who want a more advanced script installation setup can use Elefante Toolbar’s Advanced Installation, which lets them handle all script configuration settings and specifications by themselves. They can, for instance, elect to manually install the script of their choice by specifying certain admin details in the installation wizard, such as domain name, database prefix and destination folder.

The available scripts are grouped into the following categories: Ad Management, Blog, Calendars, Classified Ads, Content Management, Customer Support, Discussion Boards, E-commerce, Groupware Tools, Guestbooks, Image Galleries, Web Hosting Tools and Wiki. With Joomla 1.0, Joomla 1.5, Moodle, WordPress or a 4images script installed, users are also given the chance to preview a variety of free web design themes and install any of them together with the chosen script.

Launched in April 2003, ResellersPanel offers a free, fully-automated reseller hosting program which has helping approximately 100,000 resellers establish their own hosting companies and brands. A year ago, ResellersPanel launched Elefante Installer (www.elefanteinstaller.com), a website that offers resellers demos and free installations of more than 30 open-source PHP scripts such as phpBB2, WordPress, Joomla, Mambo, osCommerce, Drupal and Coppermine.

Fasthosts Internet (www.fasthosts.co.uk) and PacHosting (www.pachosting.com) have become the latest web hosts to work with Microsoft to promote the new Microsoft WebsiteSpark initiative, which assists smaller web design and development companies in launching or growing their business by providing better access to the Microsoft web platform.

Originally launched two weeks ago, WebsiteSpark delivers Microsoft’s server operating system, free licenses for Microsoft Expression and Visual Studio software, as well as training and access to MSDN newsgroups for free to eligible developers. By partnering with Microsoft in this initiative, web hosts stand to gain new customers interested in Microsoft’s web platform, and they will also be included in Microsoft’s marketing campaigns through a portal scheduled to launch this year.

According to its Thursday announcement, eligible Fasthosts customers can save over £240 a year in server licensing costs as well as valuable software licences direct from Microsoft. The scheme is an example of how businesses can gain significantly from discussing their technical requirements and business needs with Fasthosts.

WebsiteSpark offers new support for web design and development agencies with up to 10 employees. Eligible Fasthosts customers gain an immediate financial benefit, saving £240 per year with a free Windows Server license and saving even more with a free MSSQL license. Upon enrolment, members gain access to a free Windows Expression Studio 2 user license, two Expression Web 2 user licenses, three Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition user licenses and the DotNetPanel control panel.

“WebsiteSpark is an excellent opportunity for smaller web agencies,” Fasthosts chief marketing officer Steve Holford said in a statement. “It delivers exactly what they need most – free tools and practical help. As hosting partner to thousands of web pros, Fasthosts is well qualified to advise participants on how to apply Windows hardware and development tools to best effect.”

In a separate Thursday announcement, PacHosting said it had joined the WebsiteSpark Program as a network partner, giving eligible customers access to the latest Microsoft software and solution licenses including Windows Web Server, Microsoft Visual Studio, Microsoft Expression Studio and Microsoft SQL Server Web edition, at no added cost for those leasing advanced server solutions from PacHosting.

“Many Web development and design firms lack hosting expertise to deploy and manage Microsoft Web Platform at scale,” PacHosting business analyst Natalie Kong said in a statement. “The WebsiteSpark Program enables us to realize their potential with affordable access to designer and developer programs. At the same time, we help them avoid pitfalls and develop their work with the enhanced functionality and significant value by latest Microsoft technologies.”

PacHosting will also offer WebsiteSpark Program members discounted hosting solutions including its Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V virtual dedicated server, and Windows Server 2008 R2 Dedicated Server with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 offerings to further bolster their business growth and success.
