With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, many couples are looking for the perfect way to celebrate their relationship. While there is no lack of romantic getaways, many Valentine’s Day trips can be costly and difficult to secure at the last minute. Fortunately, there are numerous places that can be enjoyed on a budget. Here are a few of the best affordable Valentine’s Day trips for 2012.

Chicago

While Chicago may not at first appear to be the perfect romantic destination, with its hub of activity and infinite choices of things to do it can be an exciting city for a couple to experience together. Sculptures and fountains in Millennium Park provide a fascinating backdrop for conversation or a goofy photoshoot. Take a walk along the lakefront to enjoy the skyline or visit one of Chicago’s cultural centers or museums. End the evening with a romantic venue that includes live jazz.

Quebec City

A well preserved cultural treasure, Quebec City provides an affordable alternative to classy and expensive European vacations. Spend time walking down prosaic streets hand in hand, enjoying the quaint historical beauty of the city. Visit magnificent sites such as the Hotel du Parlement, a structure that was inspired by the architecture of the Louvre. Enjoy the hospitality of Quebec City while dining at unique and delicious restaurants and cafés.

Virgin Islands

Who doesn’t like the thought of spending Valentine’s Day on a breathtaking beach with their partner? The Virgin Islands provide an inexpensive way to do just that. This is an easy trip for US citizens as they do not have to obtain a passport to enter the islands and will find airfare to be quite affordable. Many beaches located on the Virgin Islands are nearly deserted, providing some alone time for the two of you. Explore colonial churches and soak up the hospitality of the local residents.

Philadelphia

Philadelphia may be better known for its historical value, but when it comes to romance there are plenty of opportunities in this city to enjoy a celebration of love. Carriage rides through the city are an opportunity for a couple to see the sites while cuddling close. Join the Sweetheart Skate on the Blue Cross River Rink before eating dinner in one of the city’s delicious restaurants. Philadelphia also has numerous special events in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Experience the Love Train or the Philadelphia Museum of Love for memories that will last for years to come.

valentine's day paris

Paris

Many consider Paris to be a high end destination for a Valentine’s Day trip. Surprisingly, Paris can prove to be quite affordable as reasonable travel packages are offered by many travel agencies. Once airfare and hotel are covered, there are countless activities and sites in Paris that can be enjoyed for free. Every couple will want to experience the Eifel Tower or walk the Champs-Elysees Avenue. Round out your trip with one of the free student concerts offered at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris.

The Caribbean Islands are an eclectic blend of cultures, histories and natural attractions. Explore locations occupied centuries ago by native island peoples. See the homes of historical figures and hear the stories of notorious pirates. Experience some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Ride horses on the beach or ATVs across little known desert locations. Beaches offer the chance to try kayaking or parasailing, while marinas provide opportunities for deep sea fishing excursions and speedboat rides.

Anguilla

Anguilla View

Located just a couple of hundred miles east of Puerto Rico, Anguilla attracts visitors from all financial spectrums, as the island has a reputation for having some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Guests sunbathe on striking white sandy beaches and enjoy a number of water activities that include scuba diving and snorkeling. The underwater adventures around the island include numerous colorful tropical fish, shipwrecks and unusual rock formations. Hiking through the tropical forests is also popular and many trails provide the opportunity for wildlife viewing or the chance to explore historic plantations. In the evenings, the smell of barbecues fill the air and nightlife destinations include the sound of reggae and jazz music at the local bars and clubs.

Dominican Republic

The coastal capitol city of Santo Domingo offers a wide array of centuries old cultural, environmental and historical locations. This was the first city established in the New Americas and was founded by the brother of famous explorer Christopher Columbus. The city also boasts having the first church and the first university, both constructed in the latter 1500s. Guests often frequent Alcazar de Colon, the 1510 palace built for Diego Columbus and his bride. The palace welcomes visitors to tour dozens of period rooms featuring artifacts and personal possessions belonging to the Columbus family. For the explorers at heart, the city is rich in cave systems that feature hundreds of ancient paintings created by aborigines and the Taino peoples. Agricultural attractions include a vast botanical garden, along with chocolate and cigar factory tours.

St. John

St. John Dinning

When looking to escape the overcrowding of Santa Cruz Bay, many venture to other areas on St. John. Being the least commercially developed and the least populated, the island attracts many visitors from the budget conscious to the elite. Two thirds of the island is deemed a National Park, offering numerous hiking opportunities at varying levels of difficulty. For the outdoor enthusiast, Cinnamon Bay features rustic camping in the tropical forests that lie close to the beach. Many beaches have changing tents and concession stands, but other locations offer secluded alcoves and beaches. Even youngsters get a glimpse of the underwater environment, as certain bays have colorful coral reefs located just a few feet from the shore.

St. Lucia

The unique terrain of St. Lucia more closely resembles that of a destination in the South Pacific rather than a Caribbean Island. The Piton Mountains stand 2,000 feet above sea level and are the island’s most recognizable landmark. Venture through rainforests filled with wild orchids, native fruit and nut trees, in addition to the indigenous parrot. Trails lead to waterfalls that existed from times before Louis XVI. Sulpur Springs features a drive through volcano and a tour provides information concerning the geological aspects of the location. Visitors also have the opportunity to visit centuries old plantations, ancient petroglyphs and the beach where turtles lay their eggs and hatchlings journey back to the sea.

Tortola

Tortola Beach Snorkeling

Though discovered by Christopher Columbus, the most notorious residents of the island include the likes of Blackbeard and Captain Kidd. The largest and most populated of the British Virgin Islands, the location is filled with swash buckling and military history. Visit the remains of St. Michael’s Church, whose parish priest moonlighted as a local pirate. The island’s long history of piracy includes rum distilleries, which remain functional and provide tours along with a chance to sample factory wares. The Dutch invaded the island in the mid 1600s, building Fort Burt and Recovery, which welcome guests to tour the facilities. The Virgin Islands Folk Museum offers a glimpse into the lives of the ancient Arawak and Carib peoples, along with exhibits that feature a shipwreck, historical ship artifacts and plantation memorabilia. Enjoy the nightlife and cuisine at dozens of local bars and restaurants that serve everything from fresh seafood, Creole, French and Italian meals.

For the first time vacation cruise goer, cabin options are confusing at best. With the variance in stateroom styles and prices, it is easy to simply either choose the least expensive or the room that is recommended by the cruise line. The wise choice is to make an informed decision, which will allow you and all those you travel with to have the best cruise experience possible.

Take your primary goals for the vacation into consideration, as well as the needs and desires of those with whom you will be traveling. A person who is seeking a quiet, relaxing holiday has much different needs than someone who is hoping for an exciting, blood pumping experience. Fortunately, cruise vacations provide something for everyone, but those who are sharing a cabin should get the best one for their goals.

The basic styles of cruise ship cabins are:

Interior

Ocean View

Balcony

Suite

Interior Cabins

Interior cabins are the least expensive, however they tend to be among the smallest of the staterooms and do not offer a window and can be very noisy due to proximity to the ship’s inner workings. Therefore, interior rooms may not be the best choice for large groups or anyone who is planning on spending a great deal of time in the room. Interior cabins are best suited for those who:

Need to stick to a strict budget

Are not sharing a room with others

Will not be spending much time in the room

Ocean View Rooms

Ocean view rooms are generally about the same size as interior rooms, though they often provide a small window so that guests may see the sea. All staterooms on nearly all cruise lines have 24/7 access to a steward and provide ample luxury items, such as toiletries and comfortable bedding. Ocean view rooms work best for those who:

Plan to spend most of their time outside of their stateroom

Are traveling in small numbers

Can be satisfied with small spaces

Balcony Rooms

Balcony rooms are generally larger than both interior and ocean view cabins. Though seldom spacious, they offer a more luxurious experience than their less expensive counterparts. These rooms provide guests with a sliding glass door so that they may look out at the sea and may enjoy time on the narrow balcony. Balcony rooms are best for those who are:

Traveling in pairs or groups

Wishing to spend more time in their room

Claustrophobic and need more space

Suites

While suites are the most expensive, they also offer the greatest amount of space and luxury. Suites offer separate sitting and sleeping areas, and can also have larger bathrooms than other cabins. On some ships, suites have upgraded steward service as well. Suites work best for:

Families or other larger groups

Wish to spend at least half of their vacation in the room

People who desire a luxurious vacation regardless of cost

Once a vacationer has chosen the cruise cabin, it is wise to consider the location of the cabin as well. Some cruise lines allow a less expensive option of not choosing the location, but those who are easily sea sick or have particular desires about a certain location may find that spending the extra money is well worth it. Taking these few items into consideration, it doesn’t take long to choose the best cabin for your cruise vacation. Once you do, all that is left is for you to enjoy your vacation.

Cruises are a luxury experience and vacation, but they also come with the potential to pay more than expected from hidden costs. Taking time to determine where the hidden costs might exist and methods of avoiding these unexpected expenses can make the cruise more rewarding.

Hidden Cost #1: The All-Inclusive Myth

Cruises advertise as all-inclusive and this is true in many regards. Shelter, food and many services are included in the price. Unfortunately, hidden costs can quickly add up with the items that are not included. Beverages like soda, bottled water and alcohol are not actually included in the price.

Avoiding the Cost: The only way to avoid the hidden cost of extra like soda is either giving it up or bringing it on the cruise. Cruise lines will not allow alcohol, but many will let passengers bring soda and bottled water, which substantially cuts this added cost.

Hidden Cost #2: Ship Excursions

The ship excursions are not included in the cost of the cruise. In fact, those tours and special activities that look fun in the brochure can add up quickly and make the cruise well over-budget.

Avoiding the Cost:The best way to avoid the cost of this added expense is either working with a local service or going on a walking tour without the guide.

Hidden Cost #3: Dining in the Restaurants

While cruises include the buffet and dining room meals, the specialty restaurants are not included in the cost. From that ice cream cone to the expensive special dinner, it can quickly add up in price to result in a budget busting expense.

Avoiding the Cost: The easiest way to avoid this cost is simply not going to the specialty restaurants. The alternative dining is not included, but the buffet and dining room services do not cost a penny.

Hidden Cost #4: Gratuities

The gratuities are often included in the price of the cruise, but those extra expenses do not include these hidden costs. Buying that alcoholic beverage or going to the alternative dining will still have the addition of a tip. In many cases, the gratuity is added automatically.

Avoid the Cost: It is possible to avoid this cost by minimizing the amount of spending on beverages and other services that are not included. Another option is going to the purser’s desk and requesting an adjustment to the amount. It is possible to lower the gratuity if the service was not good.

Hidden Cost #5: Spa Treatments

The spa treatments on a cruise are not included in the cost. In fact, these treatments are the equivalent cost as a high-end spa.

Avoid the Cost: Not getting any spa treatments is the obvious way to avoid this additional price. Another option is taking advantage of any specials offered by the ship, such as port day discounts or special one day deals. These specials can substantially bring down the price of getting that massage.

Hidden Cost #6: Special Activities

While many of the cruise activities are free of charge, specialty activities like yoga classes or wine tasting are not. The wide range of activities can make it difficult to determine which is free, but in general anything that seems specialty like fitness classes or cooking lessons are likely to cost something.

Avoid the Cost: The best way to avoid the cost is taking advantage of the free activities. Live performances, lectures and music are free to enjoy as well as leisure activities like lounging by the pool.

Hidden Cost #7: Internet

The use of Internet on the cruise might seem convenient, but it has a large added cost to the cruise. Depending on the particular cruise line, it can cost around 75 cents per minute just to use the Internet or wi-fi connection.

Avoid the Cost: The only way to avoid this cost is completely turning off that cell phone or avoiding the use of the Internet while on the cruise.

Hidden Cost #8: Buying Souvenirs

Souvenirs can add up quickly, both in port locations and on the ship. The ship souvenirs are especially expensive when compared to items purchased ashore and can quickly end up breaking the budget without realizing the expense.

Avoid the Cost: The only option when looking at souvenirs is setting a budget and sticking to it. Avoid the impulse to buy anything interesting and take time to walk away and think about it before making any purchase. This will help bring down the cost of added items.

Hidden Cost #9: Photos

Getting those photos from the cruise ship or even just buying extra SD cards an add up quickly. In fact, a single picture might cost as much as $20 at one time. This added cost can break the bank quickly.

Avoid the Cost: Bring a camera and enough film or digital space to last the trip. Avoid the professional photos and opt to take pictures personally. This not only allows the memory to last, it cuts the cost dramatically.

Hidden Cost #10: Laundry

Paying to clean cloths is always pricy. It is especially expensive on a cruise ship, where a single dry cleaned shirt might cost as much as $3.50.

Avoid the Cost: Washing some clothes in the sink of the bathroom and packing enough for the trip will eliminate the cost. Instead of paying for the laundry on the ship, opt to bring enough to last the trip and then wash it upon returning home.

Cruises are fun, but they have many hidden expenses. Fortunately, most of the added prices are easily avoided with some planning and early understanding.

Vancouver is the most populous city in Western Canada and the second largest Anglophone metropolitan area in the country, after Toronto. Be that as it may, 52% of the population do not have English as their first language in this rich, diverse city of British Columbia. Vancouver is the busiest and largest port in Canada and its natural harbour seascape made it an important hub of communication and transport in the 18thcentury, becoming a link between Eastern Canada, London and the Orient.

Vancouver panorama

The city hosts major film production studios that rank it third in North America after Los Angeles and New York City. For many years in a row, Vancouver was declared one of the most “liveable cities” in the world, due to its natural surroundings of a well known urban centre. Thus, the second most important industry is tourism, after forestry. A trip to Vancouver is like a walk in an enormous park, scattered with galleries, museums, historic sites, malls and amazing seascapes on its verge.

1. Vancouver Art Gallery

Everyone starts their city visits with a stroll through the centre and downtown Vancouver will be quite a sight. In the neoclassical former courthouse built in 1906 dwells the Art Gallery, featuring Canada’s largest collection of Emily Carr, First Nations ceremonial objects, works of Canadian modernists such as Lawren Harris, E. J. Hughes, Frederick Horsman Varley and B.C. Binning. The exhibition also includes contemporary works by Jeff Wall, Scott McFarland and many others.

Capilano Suspension Bridge

2. Capilano Suspension Bridge

One of the city’s most thrilling sites is the suspension bridge across the Capilano River. With a height of 70 m and a length of 137m, the bridge offers much more than the excitement of crossing the river: walking over the evergreens and reaching the majestic trails as well as the famous Canadian attraction, the Treetops Adventure. Seven suspension bridges will lead the way to the heart of the forest – a real Canadian experience.

3. Science World at TELUS World of Science

For all you science buffs out there, Vancouver is home to a great scientific venue, featuring interactive displays, science demonstrations and movies with a futuristic feel in the OMNIMAX. Enjoy a show in the Science Theatre, and put your imagination at work in the Contraption Centre to develop your own invention. At Science World you get a chance to meet STAN, the real sized T-Rex and have an unforgettable experience in this almost surreal venue. Sometimes science reaches a level that makes it resemble magic.

4. Van Dusen Botanical Garden

The plant collection hails from all the corners of the world, changing every season from the warm cherry trees in the spring to the gorgeous autumn display. The garden is also home of over 65 species of birds.

Telus World of Science

5. Vancouver Lookout

The 50 storey tower offers a majestic panorama of the city and is probably the first place you should go to when in Vancouver. The view is amazing, be it day or night, and the 360-degree lookout allows the tourists to take in the entire city, the spectacular North Shore Mountains and even Vancouver Island.

6. Burnaby Village Museum

The 10 acre site features buildings from the 1920s village – heritage and replicas alike. Stop at the blacksmith, watch a demonstration in the print shop and take a stroll through the farm house garden. The village also features a 1912 CW Parker carousel and a popular Ice Cream Parlour featuring quite delicious treats.

7. Metropolis at Metrotown

For an afternoon of shopping, visit the 450 stores of Metropolis at Metrotown, the largest shopping centre in British Columbia. The venue is a tourist destination itself, featuring world class restaurants, theatres, indoor courtyards and of course, great shopping.

Hell's Gate Airtram

8. H. R. MacMillan Space Centre

The 360° planetarium is a treat for everyone and a fabulous place for astronomy lovers. Take a look on the night sky and detect the planets, discover our solar system in detail and the stars far, far away. This experience is truly something to remember and the exhibitions are indeed splendid.

9. Hell’s Gate Airtram

One of the most popular natural attractions near Vancouver is the scenic Fraser Canyon and the Gold Rush Trail. Take a trip to the historic heart of British Columbia and take in the majestic views from atop the majestic canyon. In early times, the unique venue was “a place where no human being should venture”, a place where to this day human and nature fight for supremacy. Hell’s Gate is the narrowest part of the Fraser River – that flows twice as thick as the Niagara Falls and the almost fantastic view can be observed from the descending gondolas.

Another natural beauty in Vancouver’s outskirts is Grouse Mountain, a mere 15 minute drive from downtown. The vast alpine playground is one of the city’s most visited natural attractions.

10. Harbour Cruises, Gulf of Georgia Cannery and the Vancouver Aquarium

As the largest seaport in Canada, Vancouver offers a bunch of activities in the harbour, cruises and events. Sightsee through this city of the north by water, take a trip with Harbour Cruises Ltd and enjoy a splendid city view, quite different from anything seen by land.

Vancouver skyline

Stroll towards the Gulf of Georgia and discover the fishing history of British Columbia in the venue that used to be the largest salmon cannery in the province, today a National Historic Site.

To cover all sea wonders, the Vancouver Aquarium is the major must see, featuring over 70,000 captivating creatures, included in the dolphin and beluga shows, sea otter feeds, shark dives and the Amazon Gallery. For an unforgettable experience, encounter a real animal and try the 4D Experience Theatre.

Like all cities of the Great White North, Vancouver is “something else”, covered in natural beauty and numberless attractions that take you directly to the heart of British Columbia. Visit the busiest seaport of Canada and understand what it meant to belong to the First Nations. Vancouver is quite a thrill for everyone, from outdoor lovers to those who prefer a cosmopolitan event and the experience it offers is indeed unforgettable.

This metropolis is also known as the Capital of the World, some even call it the Centre of the Universe, but a name that certainly suits it is the City that Never Sleeps. You’ve already guessed – it’s New York City! With almost 8.5 million inhabitants, NYC is the most populous city in the United States and the New York Metropolitan Area that lies on 17,400 square km – one of the most densely populated in the whole world.

Lady Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge

The Big Apple is located on one of the planet’s largest natural harbours and is divided in five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. This is the city everyone dreams of seeing, where most people would enjoy living and that is how New York has become the most diverse city on Earth. Up to 800 languages are spoken in the home city of the United Nations Headquarters, and America’s business, finance, media, culture, fashion, technology and entertainment centre. To visit New York City is an unforgettable experience and the major attractions are so numerous that it’s virtually impossible to spot them all, but for the purposes of this article, start with these:

1. The Statue of Liberty

The national monument was the gift of France for the American people, with the occasion of the Declaration of Independence in 1886. The colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island represents Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, wrapped in her robe, bearing a torch and with a broken chain lying at her feet. The Statue of Liberty has long become a symbol of the USA and a major tourist attraction in the Big Apple, featured with ferry rides, complete tours of the Island and of course, a magnificent Manhattan panorama from Lady Liberty’s crown.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

2. Empire State Building

The structure rises more than a quarter mile into the Manhattan sky and offers a splendid city view. It is the building King Kong chose as an escape root and today counts among the most visited landmarks of Fifth Avenue, New York.

3. Metropolitan Museum of Art

This museum is world widely renowned for its impressive collections. The permanent exhibitions contain more than two million works, housed at the main building on the eastern edge of Central Park. Founded in 1870, the Met displays works of art from classical antiquity and ancient Egypt, European paintings and sculptures, African, Asian, Byzantine and Islamic art, and of course an extensive collection of American and modern art.

4. Rockefeller Center

Built in the 1930s during the Grand Depression, the complex formed of 19 commercial buildings is situated between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, covering an area of 22 acres. It was declared a National Historic Landmark and today hosts the most important American TV, radio and media headquarters, in the 70 stories high structures that seem to fade in the NY sky.

Times Square

5. Times Square

Nicknamed the Crossroads of the World, Times Square is a major commercial intersection situated at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue of Manhattan. The large convergence is probably the best lit part of New York, featuring numerous billboards, advertisements and commercials. This is the place where New Yorkers gather for the New Year’s Eve ball drop, creating a vast sea of laughter and great disposition.

6. Central Park

If anything, New York is definitely a noisy, polluted and crowded city. To get away from the entire bustle, head to famous Central Park and walk through this National Historic Landmark that stretches on over three square kilometres. Situated in the centre of NYC, the park was clearly designed as an oasis, hosting a few lakes including the large Reservoir, and the Central Park Zoo. The garden is flanked by the Met and Guggenheim Museum on the east and the American Museum of Natural History and Broadway on another. The natural sanctuary receives approximately 35 million visitors every year.

Central Park

7. Broadway

The famous Broadway Avenue runs through the full length of Manhattan Island and continues through Bronx borough. The name is the literal translation of the Dutch Breede weg and over the years has become the heart of the American theatre industry.Everyone has heard of this prominent New York avenue and if you’re passionate about theatre and would love to see a live show, head to midtown Manhattan, where it crosses Seventh Avenue, where Broadway theatres are located. To get acquainted with the borough of Manhattan, travel on Broadway and see: the Flatiron Building, the Canyon of Heroes, Grace Church, Union, Madison and Herald Squares, Time Warner Center, Columbus Circle, Manhattan New York Temple, the Church of Intercession and many more renowned landmarks.

8. Brooklyn Bridge

The immense structure connects Manhattan to Brooklyn and is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the US. Stretching half a kilometre over the East River, the bridge was completed in 1883 and has become an icon of New York City, as well as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.

Flatiron Building on Broadway

9. Shopping in NYC

Needless to say that New York is a large fashion capital of the world. It is swarming with gigantic malls, department stores, endless brand shops, fancy boutiques and countless other shopping venues. Popular spots include Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Barney’s, Saks, Bergdorf Goodman, shops on Madison Avenue, SoHo, Tiffany’s, Toys ‘R Us and many, many more.

10. New Yorker for a day

The point of a holiday to the popular metropolis is living the New York experience. Have a great cup of coffee at Kaffe 1668, dine in style at Empire Restaurant and Lounge, and take a stroll through Grand Central Station to gaze at its gorgeous ceiling. Next, stop at the Guggenheim, then cross Central Park to get to the American Natural History Museum. If you take Broadway, you have plenty of choices for fun, food and shopping and even visit the Bronx Zoo, it’s quite famous and extremely fun for children. Go to the theatre, to a fashion gala or an art gallery during the day and at night try one of the countless pubs, clubs and discos – New York is The Ultimate City that Never Sleeps.

New York City skyline with the Empire State Building

People from everywhere go to New York City to make their dreams come true. The international capital of the world is a magnificent city and literally has it all: impressive museums, the best restaurants, a wide pallet of nightclubs and pubs, green parks and numerous shops for all wallets. The points of interest are countless and the purchase of a comprehensive city guide is recommended, but for the purposes of living New York, walking around town would be enough: inviting attractions arise everywhere and all you have to do is walk in and let yourself be amazed.

Situated on the American Atlantic coast, Miami is the county seat of the state of Florida. With a population of 400,000, the city ranks 42 in the US and is a major centre in finance, commerce, culture, media and entertainment. In 2009, Miami was the richest city in the US and a year earlier, it was proclaimed “America’s Cleanest City” by Forbes, for its vast green spaces, clean streets and water, and good air quality.

In the past two decades, the Port of Miami was also known as the Cruise Capital of the World, being the home of the largest cruise ships and operations on the planet and the busiest port in passenger traffic.

1. South Beach

Miami has a great location, on the south east of Florida Peninsula. The Atlantic simply embraces this enormous promontory and there’s nothing better than the weather and the playful waves. A real paradise for surfers, South Beach benefits of foamy blue tides and mostly sunny days. The beach is filled with beautiful people, tanned models and generally happy faces, due to the great holiday scenario Miami offers its inhabitants and visitors. A popular hangout is Nikki Beach Club, the place where celebrities rub shoulders with locals, to get a cool suntan and break waves.

2. Ocean Drive

Leaving the beach you will enter Ocean Drive, the Art Deco neighbourhood of Miami. Along this street rise majestically some of the most popular hotels in town, with architecture hailing back from the 1920s. The Art Deco district is home for over 800 buildings from the 30s onwards, and information on them can be found at the Art Deco District Welcome Center. Notable venues are the World Erotic Art Museum and cosy sidewalk cafes, designer boutiques, lounge bars and non stop clubs. Hang out at the Opium Garden and have a great meal at Joe’s Stone Crab.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-824 " title="Design District Gallery" src="http://www.ehotels.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Design-District-Gallery-300x225.jpg" alt="Design District Gallery 300x225 Lavish on the Coast of the Atlantic!
3. Design District

The architectural boom of 1920 brought along some talented people that transformed the pineapple grove that stretched in the area into a must-see district. Today, the lane is populated with interior design galleries, stores and showrooms, featuring the works of famous designers such as Rose Tarlow, Christian Liaigre and Wendell Castle. European classics have found their way into Miami as well, including Bulthaup, who has on display and sale reproductions of mid century classic furniture.

4. Little Havana

Florida is a state where knowledge of Spanish language is a must. For a taste of Cuba, visit Little Havana neighbourhood and have a traditional Cuban cigar surrounded by replicas of Cuban restaurants and shops. The venue is a testimony to the hundreds of thousands of Cubans who immigrated to Florida after the arrival of Fidel Castro to power in 1959. A trip to Little Havana is quite fascinating, as Latin songs and tobacco scent fill the hot air.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-825 " title="Little Havana" src="http://www.ehotels.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Little-Havana-300x199.jpg" alt="Little Havana 300x199 Lavish on the Coast of the Atlantic!
5. Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

Travel to Biscayne Bay and visit the Italian Renaissance Vizcaya Museum, it seems somebody cut it out of a fairytale. In the middle of modern beaches and flashing billboards advertising shopping malls, the European palace seems to have come out of nowhere. Built in the 20th century, the palace become museum has an impressively opulent interior. It is home to numerous European antiques and decorative works belonging to the golden ages, hailing back to the 16th through the 19th century. The venue is quite a popular wedding destination and its gardens resemble wonderland.

6. Key Biscayne

Most tourists prefer South Beach for its crowds of heavy tanned catwalk bodies and muscular abs. However, if you would rather a quiet venue, serenity instead of loud music and a truly beautiful Florida beach, head to the Key and enjoy a relaxing weekend in a tranquil part of Miami. Biscayne is poorer in nightlife and shopping, as people who prefer it enjoy its natural aspect with pristine beaches, two waterfront parks, a cycling path an magnificent Miami panoramas. On the eastern part lies Crandon Park, popular for its barbecue and picnic areas, whilst going west you will find the 400 acre Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Recreation Area, for great swimming opportunities on the tip of the island.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-826 " title="Vizcaya Museum site" src="http://www.ehotels.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Vizcaya-Museum-site-300x225.jpg" alt="Vizcaya Museum site 300x225 Lavish on the Coast of the Atlantic!
7. Miami museums

The majority of people who choose Miami as a holiday destination, generally do that for the wide beaches with white sands, in search of tall waves for surfing, for the warm sun rays and for the great nightlife this south American city has to offer. However, for a bit of culture, go downtown and stroll in some of the numerous museums Miami has to offer its art thirsty visitors: Bass Museum, Coral Gables Museum, Frost Art Museum, Historical Museum of Southern Florida, Jewish Museum of Florida, Lowe Art Museum, Miami Art Museum, Miami Children’s Museum, Miami Science Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Wolfsonian-FIU Museum and the Miami Cultural Center, home of the Miami Main Library.

Every year, Miami Fashion Week gathers locals and tourists alike for one of the most entertaining events on the East Coast. Fashion buffs will feel right at home with the numerous designer shops and ample malls in town: the Village of Merrick Park – South Florida’s newest upscale mall features 115 boutiques and shops including Burberry, Diane von Furstenberg, Etro, Gucci, Jimmy Choo and Sonia Rykiel.
Whilst shopping, you might rub shoulders with celebrities who splurge around town in the Design District and designer shops. Janet Jackson, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, P. Diddy, Usher and Kanye West are just some of the often spotted characters on South Beach and Ocean Drive.

9. Dine in style

Glamorous Miami is full of fancy places where you can get a delicious meal. Try The Forge for great food and a beautiful rococo interior, the dining place of Frank Sinatra, Richard Nixon and Judy Garland. For fresh American food, with less “pretention”, go to Segafredo or Barton G and have a tasty dinner in the South Beach area.

10. Bienvenido a Miami

The East Coast charismatic city has a reputation for its sharp and elegant nightclubs. Glamorous places such as Florida Room attracts sophisticated folk and young hipsters alike to a chandelier lit old school venue. A premier spot for superstar DJs is Cameo, a former movie theatre refurbished art deco style.

Miami skyline

To enjoy a quiet pint of European beer, hang out at Abbey on South Beach and have a nice chat with locals.

Miami is one of the most amazing cities on the East Coast and together with Los Angeles, are the most popular holiday venues for those who are seeking for sandy beaches and splendid weather. So just buckle up and head to Southeast Florida for a terrific vacation on the American Atlantic Coast.

Disneyland

No matter your age, a trip to California would not be complete without seeing Disneyland. This is probably the most fun theme park in the world, featuring your favourite childhood cartoon characters, full sized and waving from their dream like environments. Stroll into the wooden house of Winnie the Pooh, take a photo with Mickey and Minnie in Toontown or experience the epic Indiana Jones Adventure.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-809 " title="Griffith Observatory" src="http://www.ehotels.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Griffith-Observatory-300x145.jpg" alt="Griffith Observatory 300x145 California Dreaming... Specialty restaurants can be found all over the city, but popular places among locals and tourist alike include Philippe the Original – for a delicious French beef sandwich, Du Par’s – for comfort food, Bryan’s Pit BBQ, for original Texan grills and Bennett’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream for the most refreshing scoops in town.

Rock out…LA style

To have a fancy drink in elegance, go to Bar Marmont, an exquisite venue featuring great food as well. Suit up and head to Edison to enjoy an odd yet entertaining cabaret show. For those looking for your average LA party – a noisy, crowded madness, with great music and endless booze, join the masses heading to Avalon, LA’s super club. The featured music will send you to Europe’s techno clubs and the party won’t end until morning. Youngsters will gather at Smell, for its punk and indie-noise musical accords.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-811 " title="Hollywood sign" src="http://www.ehotels.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Hollywood-sign-300x197.jpg" alt="Hollywood sign 300x197 California Dreaming... The park is great for a picnic, for a long walk or to simply get a glimpse of the hills of St. Andrews.

Another popular oasis is 40 minutes outside of Kingston and a stop for school groups and numerous tourists. Guardman’s Serenity Fishing & Wildlife Sanctuary features a mango orchard, a large animal collection including a petting zoo, exotic birds and many other fun activities, especially for children.

Rockford Mineral Baths have emerged after the strong earthquake of 1907 and today the spa is a popular place among locals and tourists alike. It’s nice to take a relaxing day just for massages, swimming and extensive soaking.

To learn more about the local fauna, visit Castleton, Hope and Royal Botanical Gardens and Zoo, the wildlife on this Caribbean island is quite fascinating. The tropical species of plants are also very interesting and unusual looking.

2. Museums and galleries

<img class="size-medium wp-image-791 " title="Bob Marley museum" src="http://www.ehotels.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Bob-Marley-Museum-300x200.jpg" alt="Bob Marley Museum 300x200 Vacation in the Caribbean! Once a hedonistic pirates’ den, Port Antonio changed its landscaping and statute after the violent earthquake of 1692, when Port Royal emerged into the sea and became the only sunk city in the Western hemisphere. The most popular tourist attraction is Fort Charles, the oldest building, dating back from the days of British occupation in 1662.

5. Spanish Town

Once called Santiago de la Vega, the establishment was the island’s capital under the Spanish rule: explorers who were searching for precious metals. Top attractions include Jamaican People’s Museum of Crafts and Technology and St. James Cathedral (St. Jago de la Vega), the oldest Anglican church outside England.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-795 " title="Cathedral St. Jago De La Vega" src="http://www.ehotels.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Cathedral-St.-Jago-De-La-Vega-213x300.jpg" alt="Cathedral St. Jago De La Vega 213x300 Vacation in the Caribbean!
6. Devon House

A popular attraction among locals and tourists alike is Devon House. The 127 years old construction is one of Jamaica’s leading national monuments and a symbol of cultural diversity, as it was built and was the home of Jamaica’s first black millionaire, George Stiebel.

7. Horror stories of Flat Bridge

On the Cobre River rises the legendary Flat Bridge. Story has it that in the late 1700s, slaves were forced into building this bridge and as two lives were lost, the bodies were buried into the mortar. The bridge is thought to be haunted, that is actually the reason why no rail has ever resisted: every time that was tried, the river rose and washed the rail away.

8. Jamaican beaches

The sea sights are usually extremely crowded and often dangerous places, so caution is recommended when enjoying a day at the beach. As a matter of fact, whenever strolling around downtown Kingston, a local companion is a good idea, to show you around.
