Sam comes to us from the land of freelance where he juggled everything from graphic, print and web design to front-end and application development. He has spent much of the past three years serving as creative director and senior front-end developer for a small start-up company in Ohio building a web-based electronic medical records system for small-practice physicians. In addition, Sam has also worked with a number of diverse clients, including Workplace Fairness, a non-profit organization that provides information and advocacy about job rights and employment issues, and Microsoft.

Here at {e}, Sam will get to focus his creative energies on that which he is most passionate: his ability to write clean, semantic, accessible code and his knack for impressing people with awe-inspiring levels of nerdery. Trust us, he’s a real hit at parties when he starts talking about Section 508 and WCAG guidelines; folks just hang on his every word.

Yet another Ohio-native turned Charleston-implant, Sam is very much looking forward to decorating his palm tree with Christmas lights this winter.

While gathered at the Launch Party and Summer Benefit, party goers were dazzled by delectable meals and wine pairings from some of our city’s favorite chefs and wine aficionados. {e} house was there to support the much anticipated relaunch of the festival’s new website, www.charlestonfoodandwine.com. The festival’s 2009 website was developed by {e} house studio along with the festival’s talented designer, Amy Reed, from Helium. The current site is just the beginning, as new sections will be added while the festival prepares for it’s 4th annual opening in March, 2009.

Not only does The Food + Wine Festival plan to showcase 50 exquisite culinary events, it also intends to raise $50,000 for MUSC Children’s Hospital in the process. This worthy charity is dedicated to providing excellent pediatric care to children as well as funding imperative research. We here at {e} appreciate the opportunity to be apart of such an important charitable event and look forward to continuing our work with festival coordinators. Must Have

• Expert (or fly) hand coding skills in XHTML and CSS-base design (table-less)
• Expert at using JavaScript and libraries such as Scriptaculous, Protype or JQuery
• Expert knowledge of web standards, accessibility, usability, and cross-browser compatibility
• Expert knowledge of using CMS software such as ExpressionEngine and WordPress
• Expert knowledge of building front-end for custom e-commerce applications, CMS, and web apps
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• 3+ years of industry experience in an agency or freelance environment
• Self-motivation and accountability for your work
• The ability to work with a small team on multiple concurring projects under tight deadlines
• A desire to learn and contribute to the successes of the team
• Strong organizational skills

If You Don’t Have

• You should have most of the skills and experience mentioned above and be enthusiastic about learning the rest

Good to Have

• PHP Experience
• Familiarity with frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Django, and CakePHP

Extra Credit if You Have

• Hand coding Javascript skills
• Experience with mashup’s

You will work out of our unique downtown studio with a shiny new Mac BP and  cinema display in downtown Charleston, South Carolina (Recently rated 4th place in Travel + Leisure’s Worlds Best Awards). Though you’re welcome to work out of your home on some days.

We prefer applicants based in Charleston or looking to relocate so that we can have some face time. But if you are not local and feel you’re a great match for our team, we are open to the possibility of a remote position. We strive to have fun while producing work of which we can be proud.
