By understanding the common tactics used by scammers and recognizing the red flags, you can safeguard your hard-earned money and maintain your peace of mind.

Urgency and Pressure Tactics: Scammers often create a sense of urgency to prevent you from thinking critically. Phrases like 'act now,' 'limited time offer,' or threats of account closure are red flags.
Requests for Personal Information: Be wary of unsolicited requests for sensitive data like bank details, passwords, social security numbers, or one-time passwords (OTPs).
Unusual Payment Methods: Scammers prefer payment methods that are difficult to trace or reverse, such as gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or direct bank deposits to unknown accounts.
Poor Grammar and Spelling: While not always present, many scam communications contain noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing.
Unsolicited Contact: If you receive an unexpected email, message, or call from a company or individual you don't recognize, be cautious. Always verify the source independently.
Requests to Download Software or Click Links: Be extremely careful about clicking on links or downloading attachments from unknown or suspicious sources, as they could contain malware or lead to phishing sites.
Promises of Easy Money: Be skeptical of any scheme that promises quick and effortless wealth. Legitimate opportunities usually require effort, time, and investment.
Inconsistent Information: Scammers may provide conflicting details about their company, services, or the offer itself. Cross-reference any information you receive.

SCAM RED FLAGS CHECKLIST

🚩 1. The "Pay-to-Play" Withdrawal

As what I have personally experienced (click here for the context), if a platform tells you that you need to pay a "maintenance fee," "tax," or "activation fee" just to withdraw money you've already earned, it is a 100% scam.

The Reality: Real investments deduct fees from your balance; they never ask for more cash upfront to release your funds.

🚩 2. The "3-Hour" Miracle

Any offer promising to turn a small amount (like ₱2,000) into a huge amount (like ₱25,000) in just a few hours is impossible.

The Reality: High returns always come with high risk and take time. If it's "instant," it's a trap.

🚩 3. The "Silent" Profit

"Earn without doing anything" is a major red flag.

The Reality: Whether it's crypto, freelance work, or sales, legitimate income requires either labor or long-term market growth.

🚩 4. The Friend-of-a-Friend Endorsement

Scammers often use "social proof." Just because a friend's friend said they got paid doesn't mean it's legit—scammers often pay out small amounts at first (like what I have experienced) to lure you into depositing much larger sums.

🚩 5. The "Random Text" Recruiter

Legitimate brokers and companies do not recruit via random SMS or WhatsApp messages promising quick wealth.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU'VE BEEN SCAMMED?

Deep breath. It happens to the best of us. Here is your step-by-step recovery plan.

Stop the Bleed Immediately
The moment they ask for "extra fees" to get your money back, stop sending money. They will never send it back. Do not "borrow" more to chase the loss; it only makes the hole deeper.
Document Everything
Before the scammer deletes the chat or blocks you, take screenshots of:
The original offer or advertisement
The "broker's" profile and phone number
The transaction receipts (Gcash, bank transfers, etc.)
The messages where they demand more money
Report the Accounts
Payment Apps: Report the transaction to GCash or your bank's fraud department immediately. They may be able to freeze the scammer's account.
Social Media: Report the profile to the platform (Facebook/Instagram) to prevent them from hitting other moms.
Alert Your Circle
If you were recruited by a friend, let them know immediately. They might be a victim too, or they might be unknowingly spreading the scam.
Forgive Yourself
This is the most important step. Scammers are professional manipulators. They targeted your love for your family and your desire to provide. You are not "slow" or "unlearnable"—you were targeted during a hard time.

The thief that was crucified beside Jesus became a new creation the moment he acknowledge the Lordship of Christ.

It's not what we achieved in life nor we accomplished that would make us into a new person, it is our relationship with Christ!

The scripture is very clear: IF anyone is IN Christ..., that IF means conditional. We can only have that "new life" if we have Jesus Christ in our life! IN means WITHIN US! not just pure head knowledge, but Christ must be part of our WHOLE SYSTEM!

So, for us who professed God's Lordship in our lives, are we really becoming a new person? Have we surrendered our OLD SELF totally? Does Jesus really have the total control of our life?

Let's check ourselves then:

How obedient are we?

How much time we spent reading His Words?

How about our prayer life?

How are we towards others?

How FAITHFUL are we?

Yes, the world is so very cunning, Temptation is everywhere! We have social media, old habits, worldly engagement that took most of our time!

I felt sorry for what happened today...

An acquaintance deliberately bid the world goodbye.

I could only say, it should not be her time yet...

She's so talented. She could have a better life ahead of her...

But she chose to end it her way.

Mental health issues is a serious thing, it made someone do things out of course...

But we cannot judge them. It's their mind and emotions get mixed up... their overwhelming emotions that may lead to confusion- of doing the things that should not be done.

Nevertheless, let's be mindful with our loved ones. Constantly check on them... Talk to them.

And do not forget yourself too. Pray for wisdom and strength. Let's anchor to the fact that apart from God, we can do nothing.

In recent years, mental health issues have emerged as a pressing concern worldwide, affecting people across all age groups, genders, and socio-economic statuses. The growing prevalence of mental health challenges begs the question: why are they becoming so rampant in today's society? A closer look reveals a multitude of interconnected factors contributing to this phenomenon.

1. Increased Awareness and Decreased Stigma

One of the most significant reasons for the apparent rise in mental health issues is the heightened awareness surrounding the topic. The demands of work, education, and finances can be overwhelming, especially in an era characterized by rapid changes and global competition. These stressors can act as catalysts for mental health challenges, particularly for those without access to coping mechanisms or support systems.

Urbanization and the fast-paced nature of contemporary life contribute to feelings of disconnection and burnout. As millennium baby, year 1981 to be exact, there are lots of things that I truly missed- those good old days...

Gone were the days where kids find contentment and fun playing under the heat of the sun. Our only source of electronic entertainment back then was the television where not all families have the luxury to acquire. We used to peek on our neighbor's window (hoping they won't close it) just to watch our favorite tv show. When the electricity is out during night time, we used to play "tagging" under the bright moon, otherwise, we just gather around the shed talking about anything or playing songs accompanied by a guitar. There's real human connection in our time. Simple life, simple joy, yet very memorable.

Gone were the days, as well, where we cannot go to school unprepared. We were so afraid being punished for getting failing grades or not answering the questions. We learned to prioritize basic learning like reading, spelling, speaking, and problem solving. Above all, we cannot be promoted to the next level if we cannot read nor pass any two of our academic subjects. That was tough but we learned to be responsible with our studies.

Gone were the days (almost) where ALL kids and young adult pays high respect to their parents, teachers and anyone older than them. Talking back is not an option. Yes, that was really tough and seems like our freedom of expressions were being suppressed but we grew up giving premium to the value of respect.

Back then, we seldom witnessed public display of affection. Most women behaves well. Yes, there might be gender bias but that was how women earned respect from men. We do value the beauty of being wholesome and men value purity and chastity.

Of course, am not saying that our generation was perfect. We also have heard horrible stories of aristocracy, inequality, abuse, and all those unbecoming behaviors. But it is in our generation where most millennials develop the value of hard work, perseverance, patience, and resilience.

As a teacher of these generations: Z and Alpha (where my kids belong), there are lot of works to do as to reminding them, and inculcating to their minds that the world we have right now is doom to destruction if we will fail to guide them, correct them, and teach them the lesson and value of humanity.

Prayers for 2025

The year 2024 was among the best years for me. Time flies so fast yet, for me, I was able to accomplish much with God's wisdom and strength.

I started the year by submitting my documents for reclassification, promotion from Teacher I to III. The journey may not be that easy but it went well, and it went really fast. Unlike the previous years where some of my colleagues has to wait for three years or more to get the result, mine was just within last year! I submitted my initial requirements for evaluation on December 2023, got the confirmation on February 2024, has to wait for couple of months and finally, I got the appointment last December 2, 2024! Indeed, when the time is right, the Lord God will make it happen (Isaiah 60:22). My housing loan was also approved by PAGIBIG after eight long years! It then occurs to me that the delay of approval (after series of contract signing with the developer) was because God prepared me on financial aspects of my life. Indeed, these two milestones were an answered prayer for me!

Of course, I also gone through emotional crisis this year. I had conflict with my sister, but God reminded me the lesson of humility and finally got the courage to patched up with her before Christmas. Late last year, I often questioned my worth as a Mom, as a daughter, and as a wife. That experienced taught me and reminded me all over again that apart from God, I am nothing.

For this year, I have specific prayers that I'm hoping to be answered within this year:

1. Financial breakthrough

-Yes, with more responsibilities and bills to pay, I need financial breakthroughs. I also want to be of help by blessing others who are also in need. Much more, I want to provide my kids with all their needs. My promotion would be of great help for me but I am open to the possibilities of finding a greener pasture abroad where I could bring with me my family, but of course, God alone knows if such plan is right for me and He has all the power to make it happen if it is in accordance to His will for me and my family.

2. Emotional Growth and Maturity

-God knew myself better than anyone else. He knows what makes me weak. Thus, I am praying for emotional maturity. I pretty knew that I am a work in progress when it comes to that area, but I am praying more that I would be less affected when petty trouble comes my way and I am praying for more wisdom and strength in dealing with things that could affect me emotionally. I am also praying for more patience when it comes to getting my works done or dealing with my kiddos and family. I am praying as well that I could control more my temper if facing in a very unlikely scenario.

3. Clear Direction About my Future

- Yes, many are my plans for the future but I know that it is God's plans for me that shall prevail. With that, I am praying for God's clear direction. May all my future plans for myself and my family shall aligned to His perfect will for me. May God allow it to happen for His greater glory.

4. More Quiet TIME

- This is one of the things that I always failed to do. To be honest, I felt guilty most of the times for being so passive with my spiritual journey. Yes, I pray everyday yet I failed to meditate on His Words everyday and that's the reason maybe on why I can feel that I am quite distant from His presence. I am praying that this year, I will be faithful enough to do what God commanded me to do.

5. Strong Relationship with the people I love

- I am thankful to God for my husband and it is my prayer that both of us will develop more deeper connection and love for each other. I pray that both of us will start to become faithful with our spiritual journey. I also pray that both of us will be able to resist temptation that could ruin our relationship. It is also my prayer that we could be a good example to our kids, that we could both guide them to live their lives in accordance to God's will. It is also my prayer that our relationship with our families will get better and may peace and harmony dwells to each of our home.

Dear God,

For this year 2025, may you grant all the desires of my heart. But before that, please make me worthy of your blessings and answered prayers.

These I pray, in the Mighty Name of Jesus.

It's funny I've got this odd feelings of I don't know. I usually get thrilled when it's the last month of the year- yeah, December. However, I've got this weird feeling of wanting to hibernate, hide and not be found. I just felt so heavy inside. Am I exhausted? Maybe. I could even find myself in tears randomly. I want to shout to the whole world how my life seems not falling into places. I felt so damn heavy but I just couldn't express it. I want to shut myself from people but I just can't since I felt so obligated to work for the rest of my life.

And the funny thing is I've got no one to confide all this heaviness I felt inside. No, not my family, they already have a burden to carry I just don't want to add up to what they might be going through as well, not even with my friends. The life I have right now is full of pretentions. I pretended to be okay, to be cool, to be fine-but honestly NO, I'M NOT. I'm not totally okay.

Somebody might question my faith- Yes, God knows what I've been through right now. I even question my faith as well. Am I really have that faith or the life I have right now is just so overwhelming.

I think I'm a failure.

I failed as a Mom

I even thought I failed as a teacher, a worker, an employee.

My kids? I failed them as well.

I failed in so many areas of my life.

How about my husband. No, he won't understand and he never will be.

I just failed as a person. I have so many regrets that I know I can't take back. I can't undo the time. That is why I am kind of mad of myself because I failed myself. All my dreams will always be just a dream. My life is too far from what I have dreamed of when I was a kid. Far from what I have imagined in my teenage years.

I don't know why my thoughts are so filled with pessimism.

But all I know is I AM TIRED.

How to Maximize the Screentime of Your Kids

Raising kids these days is really quite a challenge. I have three kids, my eldest is a boy who is now on 7th grade while my two girls are still on their primary grades. My youngest daughter was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, good thing she is highly functional but just can’t control her sudden burst of emotion. She was in therapy for almost a year but due to financial constraints, we were not able to continue our sessions. However, I noted all the therapist's recommendations for her. One of her recommendations was ZERO SCREENTIME. However, there were just situations where I allowed her to use the phone for me to focus on my work. I just limited and prohibited her from watching YouTube videos. She loves to draw but also loves to explore all my mobile games. I purposely installed an Anti-Stress App on my phone so she could use it and in the same manner, could help her develop her auditory skills since she loves listening to sounds especially ASMR videos.

My other kids just can’t get enough of their phones as well which makes me mad sometimes. My eldest daughter is into animation, that’s what took most of her screen time. My son is into piano tutorials too. But from time to time, they love playing mobile games which I dreaded the most. But somehow, I could not totally blame them because I played mobile games too. I have installed a lot of game apps on my phone so I could have something to dwell on while in a long queue, or when I just couldn’t sleep. I also installed PC games through a friend’s help. Playing on a PC is much preferable since it has wider screens. I also recommend it to my kids but for a limited time.

Lately, I discovered one website that almost has every game that I love. It’s educational too so it’s okay for my kids. World Teacher's Day 2024

As a teacher, it feels good to be celebrated upon. It feels good to have our role in the society being recognized-being considered as the unsung hero. However, being a teacher is not all about being in the limelight at all times. We can work even when no one is looking, we can perform our job even if no one is supervising. We did our job because we are committed to give our best- above all, we are committed to serve our future leaders.

But the teacher nowadays have lots of challenges to take. With the presence of Social Media, different interpretation of Child Protection Policy, the wrong interpretation (again) of the motto: No Child Should Be Left Behind, and a whole lot more that seems to be Pro-Student than pro-teachers, our job is sometimes got compromised.

It may not be inappropriate to compare what we once were when we're still a student to what kind of students we are dealing right now- it creates a huge difference. Huge, in the sense that most of the students we're dealing right now are so entitled, overly empowered, and egotistical beings.

As a teacher, I do what I thought is right. I don't tolerate laziness in the classroom, I always speak what's on my mind. If I need to reprimand a student, I do it without holding back. I felt the need to let them realize that there's so much things they need to learn about the realities of life.

I commend all those parent who don't tolerate the misbehavior of their children. I commend all those parents who give premium to disciplining their children. I commend them because it's just the right thing to do. I despise parents who pampered their children so much that made them entitled enough to insist on things they want to do that won't help them to become the kind of person that they ought to be when they will become adult.

This World Teachers' Day, I commit to do what is right and appropriate; I commit to hone the skills of my students and at the same time teach them the right attitude towards work as a student.

I commit to restore the best practices that I once experienced when I was a student.

It is difficult as a human being to realize that in any given day, in any given moment many things are unpredictable and beyond our control. In modern society, we may have all the conveniences that technology offers, but in some ways, we are helpless, and this feeling causes stress: the weather can disrupt our plans, a cold can appear from nowhere, a pandemic can change our everyday life. Here are four of the most typical issues that might be causing headaches and are probably best dealt with in another way: The Weather The first of these is the weather which is always considered an uncontrollable environmental factor. Suppose you have planned the most beautiful of events to be held perhaps in the outside environment and then the rains come. The disappointment and frustration can be felt. Though we are able to verify such forecast and possibly prepare for it, the weather is a natural faculty we cannot command. This may not always be a successful endeavor but having this fact accepted and having a backup plan lessens frustration. Health Issues Health is also one of the domains where we tend to perceive ourselves as victims. Unfortunately, even when one tries their best to ensure their body is in good health, at time one may fall ill or get involved in an accident. It becomes quite annoying and irritating when it hinders our normal day to day activities or even a long term forecast. The changes outside of our control can also be difficult in some ways for patients and their caregivers: the best approach here is medical adherence and positive thinking at least. Global Events We can meet the global events like economic crisis, viruses spreading, and shifts in power overnight. It is usually out of our control and may result into what is referred to in psychological terms as Helpless and anxious ness. Remaining knowledgeable and discovering how we can successfully square ourselves into new situations allows us to regain feelings of control. Traffic and Delays The regular traffic congestion and travelling schedule become very much inconvenienced due to traffic jams, flights delays etc. They can at times be rather irritating, mainly when they lead to one being late for an event as this is socially unacceptable. Of course, such delays are rather frustrating, but listening to the audiobooks or podcasts, for instance, can help to pass the time with benefit. Coping Strategies

The life is full of unpredictable events that are beyond our control, but what we can control is our attitude to these events. Here are some strategies to help manage frustration:

Acceptance: Admit that there are things that you cannot change and do not waste time and energy on such things.

Mindfulness: Develop effective strategies by focusing on the present moment to effectively overlook the future due to pressures associated with time.

Flexibility: Be flexible and be ready to alter the arrangement if need be.

Positive Thinking: It is important to work on and with the positive aspects where possible or turn a negative situation into a positive one.

Support Network: Discuss matters with friends and family and get another opinion on the matter so as to get a better perspective.

These frustrations are avoidable and with coping mechanisms and positive attitude, the stresses can be handled well to enable us to lead a peaceful life amidst chaos.

Most often than not, our world now accepted broken relationships, broken marriages, divorce, annulment as part of the norms in our society. Sad, but true. It seems like its detrimental effect to the affected persons are of no value at all anymore. Most likely, it is the young ones that becomes the collateral damage which also have detrimental effect to their growth and their views in life and the value of relationship as a whole.

But why is it happening?

In the intricate dance of love and relationships, breakups are often painful and bewildering experiences, leaving many wondering why things didn’t work out. When it comes to why men leave women, there’s a myriad of factors at play, each as unique as the individuals involved. Understanding these reasons can shed light on relationship dynamics and pave the way for healing and growth.

Communication Breakdown: One of the primary reasons behind men leaving women is a breakdown in communication. Often, men might feel misunderstood or unheard in the relationship, leading to frustration and eventually detachment. It's crucial for both partners to cultivate open and honest communication channels to address concerns and grievances effectively.

It made me cautious enough in choosing my lifetime partner, though I'm not saying that he's the perfect one but at least he is not the same with my father. However, not all products of broken homes viewed and fought life the way that I do. As a teacher, I witnessed children (learners)who became a liabilities in the community just because they have a dysfunctional family. They are misguided, neglected and lack the purpose to live on accordingly.

Nevertheless, navigating the complexities of relationships requires empathy, patience, and a willingness to confront challenges head-on. While understanding why men leave women can offer valuable insights, it's equally important to recognize that every relationship is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all answer. By fostering open communication, mutual respect, and genuine appreciation, couples can cultivate thriving, enduring partnerships built on a foundation of love and understanding.

This year 2023 was full of challenges but by His grace we're able to make it through. Despite all those challenges, there's still lot of things to be grateful for...

I'm grateful that up to this day, I can still witness the goodness of God for me and my entire family...

I'm thankful to Him for everything He has done, for all those people He uses as instruments to bless us...

I'm thankful for the gift of life, the gift of family and the gift of friendship...

I'm thankful for the gift of job... For the capability of earning a living, for the wisdom and the skills that He equipped me with to fulfill my job, I'm equally thankful as well to my colleagues for accepting the best and worst in me...

I'm grateful as well for my supportive family who never gets tired of showing their love and support, may God continue to bless them and protect them at all times wherever they go, whatever they do...

I'm grateful to my BHCCCI church family whose compassion continue to inspire me to be of help in the ministry, I'm thankful for their love and support as well to my whole family... I'm so grateful for the kind of friendship that were built, a friendship that turns into a family. Indeed, Team Padayon, magmalig-on!

I'm thankful as well to my husband and children for allowing me to grow holistically as a wife, as a Mom, and as their friend.

I'm thankful that God slowly mold me into the kind of woman that He wants me to be. I may have lots of shortcomings but by His grace I was able to make it through...

Life may have full of mood swings but as long as we know our identity, we know whom to call to in times of need, we will be okay.

Losing a Mentor and a Friend

Today, a church colleague passed away.

She's not just a colleague, she's a mentor, a friend, and my Godmother on my wedding.

I've known her for more than a decade already. Our first meeting was at the university where I worked as part-time instructor. A very soft-spoken woman, very accommodating and a friendly one.

She died due to severe pneumonia, a complication of being diabetic. She suffered from diabetes for quite a while now to the point that one of her legs was amputated.

She's a survivor, more than conqueror, I would say. For her family, the number of years that she lived since her diagnosis was already a bonus since she's a frequent hospital-goer due to her condition.

In spite of what she went through, she never stopped doing her ministry as if it was among her source of strengths.

Her last days were prolific. She was able to celebrate with us our Family Day, then our Church Christmas Party where she was able to sing- the last song of her life.

Prior to that, she was complaining about persistent cough, faster heart beats, and even LBM. We thought she could make it like she used to but none of us knows that it was the last day of her existence- her sufferings are finally over.

Now she's home with the Lord. Her life has been made whole upon coming to her eternal rest- her eternal life with God.

So long, Maamy Wendy! Til' we meet again soon!
