So, I planned to vlog from all my stops… and I did, but we got in late to Washington Dulles (huge airport, had to run to our connection) and then London (of all places) didn’t have wifi! They didn’t have it in the airport or around town. It was NO WHERE!

I still got a couple, but I’m working on uploading them from my camera now.

Ethiopia 2012

My trip to Ethiopia is rapidly approaching and I am beside myself excited. Those of you who follow me on Facebook know I’ve been struggling with the new diagnosis of allergies (wheat, soy, rice, peanuts, nuts, tomatoes and I suspect peas) but I refuse to let that get me down! This trip will be amazing and I am soooo looking forward to it!!!

In fact, I’m so excited that I am cooking up a plan for while I’m gone… a plan that includes vlogs and free books! Ohhh yeah. This will be fun.

But, I won’t be able to announce it until the 29th… which is in 5 days. And the day I leave. So look for it…

Well played Monday…

So after an interesting weekend, one would think that Monday would give a break to those who need it. Apparently this isn’t how it works in my world. After a rough night trying to sleep (note the word trying) I woke to find a website I work with completely hacked. Luckily the ISP picked up post haste and shut down the attack (to another server) but that puts quite a damper on my Monday morning. I don’t think enough coffee can undo the fix my brain is in at the moment.

Before I got out of bed, I was scrolling through the possibilities my day would hold. Maybe coffee with a friend. Maybe some write time. Maybe … Problem is, once my brain was thrust awake by the hacker-attacker, the inserted other stuff has run for cover. So anything I thought I needed to get done today is hiding in the folds of my grey mass. Or what’s left of it anyway. Maybe it needs more coffee. I’m going with that.

In the meantime I will update you on all things Eisley.

Pieces of Me is done. Needs a bit of alpha editing after I get some notes back, but it’s done done. And it makes me smile.

Food Allergies stink. So last month I found out I was allergic to Wheat, Soy and Peanuts. Fine body, whatever you say. This is a hassle, but I’m promised to feel better, so I will deal. As if those three major allergens were not enough, my body says, “Oh by the way…” And I find out Friday I am allergic to Nuts, rice, tomatoes, and peas. Really, body? And you are just letting me know this NOW? Apparently the joke’s on me.

So yes, this is when my weekend went downhill. Tho on the flip side of the coin, I am def not allergic to chocolate, coconut, meat, dairy, eggs, fish or shell fish! So at least I get to eat all the yummy foods still. Don’t know if I’m allergic to coffee and I won’t be finding out. My body will just have to deal

Ethiopia 2012 – I leave for Ethiopia in 6 short days. While these new allergies are going to make traveling “fun” I refuse to allow them to consume the joy I have thinking about being with the children of Gojjo again. I am so eternally grateful that while my allergies do make me feel terrible, I do not have anaphylaxis so if I accidentally eat something while in the field, I won’t die (def a plus). I’ll just have pain of inflammation during the next 24 hours. However, I am bringing benadryl to combat any such reaction and I know I’ll be fine.

So, from this point on, I will not focus on the allergies but rather the children we will be in contact with. And it will be amazing! Just look at these faces!

This return to trip to Ethiopia has been growing in my heart for months and I’m so excited it’s now about here! In fact, I’m soooo very excited that I am doing something fun in celebration!

On Sunday April 29th, my Christian Fiction Novel – RUNAWAY CHOICES will be FREE on Amazon. And it won’t go off free status again until after I’ve landed in Ethiopia!!! (Which is May 1) And I plan to do some vlogs and post them here on the blog regarding my travels and fun little tid bits about the trip.

This will be an amazing trip and I can’t wait to share with you all the details!

Petra – It is Finished

Yes, I am a Petra fan. Have been since I toddled around my mothers home. And it may seem a bit blasphemous for me to be singing this song when I’ve finished a manuscript… But seriously, this is the first thing that came to my mind at 1:30am last night when I closed the file.

It is finished!

It’s a good song! And when I woke this morning… I was indeed singing it again!

It is finished!!

Yes, that means Pieces of Me is on track for a June 29th release — barring any major catastrophes. Hrmm!

In other news, my trip to Ethiopia is in 2 short weeks (2 weeks 2 days!!) and I am so very excited. I knew I’d been called back to go again and am so blessed to be going. You will have much blog fodder while I am gone. I plan to blog each day of my trip.

We go to Denver, Chicago, Heathrow, Addis Ababba, Gojjo, Frankfurt… then I will break off for a few days and go visit my aunt. It will be a fabulous trip, one I will make into a working trip with all those layovers and travel… since I can’t sleep on planes. BUT, it will be amazing once we are in Ethiopia. We expect big things!!!

I had to throw that warning in because I had one person who was disturbed by some of the subject matter in The Secret Of Spruce Knoll. To Ride A Púca is a much darker novel than Spruce Knoll and will certainly not be appropriate for some readers. Slavery, oppression, and violent situations are within this novel. Extreme Juggling – Writing Multiple Genres

Today I’m so excited to have Christine Fonseca on the blog today. She is going to talk about genre juggling BUT I have to throw up the confetti and fan fare with today’s announcement! Christine has sold her YA Novel TRANSCEND (March 2013) to Compass Press! Congratulations Christine and the Compass Press folks!

Thanks Eisley for having me today. When we were deciding what I should post about, she mentioned that she wanted me to talk about writing in multiple genres. Whew, that can be a tough one. See, I write both nonfiction and fiction. And trust me when I tell you, it is an interesting switch; and one that can’t easily make.

I soiree into writing was in the nonfiction realm—books related to the work I do in my day job. These books are fun for me, but not particularly challenging to write. They are for children and adults, parents and educators. And they “sound” exactly like me. They aren’t dark, although I do deal with some dark topics at times. They are logical, purpose-filled and informative.

And very different from my fiction.

In fiction, I write older YA stories that deal with death, darkness, mental illness, the battle of good and evil, right and wrong, light and darkness. I typically write in multiple POVs and with unique styles—all of which means it is not my voice, but the voice of my characters. And to do this, I must throw myself 100% into the stories as I write them. I don’t read other books, or watch other movies, or write other genres while drafting. In fact, I typically don’t blog much either. I just avoid doing things that throw me out of character or voice while drafting.

With nonfiction, I can shift from project to project, or read other books, or do other things. But with fiction, I just can’t. At all. So, I plan out my time. Try to keep my new story ideas from running away with me as I try to draft a story. And focus. Really focus.

What do you guys do? Are any of you juggling multiple genres? I will take any and all advice!

Tonight, I made the best wheat free, soy free, nut free muffins, courteous of King Arthur… that was almost the most exciting thing that happened, that was until I remembered that TONIGHT WAS THE NIGHT!!!!

So, after I consumed a heavenly muffin, I dashed over to rafflecopter and checked time.

7 minutes left in the contest… what do I do for seven minutes besides bite my nails in anticipation?!?!?

I bit my nails… and bit them some more. And more. AND MORE! And then I see the entry number is 666… Ummm and hope another person enters LOL. But… after staring at the number another two minutes, it didn’t change!

Then the blessed time clicked over… and it was time. Rafflecopter makes it sooo easy to randomly pick a winner and it did!!!! I’ve emailed our winner and am waiting to hear back.
