People who have never had headaches for a long time won’t understand what migraine is. Those people who have heard about migraine know that there could be more repercussions when migraine is left unresolved. Migraines are pathological issues. More often, migraines are not given significance since the pain it brings is not that visible and is considered as minor although it generates severe and continuous suffering and discomfort. One fact about migraines is that modern science and medicine have failed to explain the concrete causes of migraines. They are not able to fully explain if migraines are full-fledged illness, if they are mere symptoms, if they have a psychological factor, or if they can be inherited. Migraines are known to manifest through attacks which could happen periodically and last for a few minutes.

Even if it doesn’t have an exact definition and treatments yet, physicians have made crucial observations on what causes migraines. The rise in temperature has been seen as one of the main causes of migraine. Researchers have seen a 7.5 percent increase in the risk of headache for every 9 degrees Fahrenheit spike. Cheese is also seen as another trigger for migraines whether it is blue cheese, parmesan, cheddar, feta, or Swiss. It’s because of the tyramine found in them that can trigger migraines. Other sources of tyramine are red wine and alcoholic beverages. Strong smells even nice scents can cause migraines too. The possible reason for this is that odors stimulate the nervous system. These smells could come from certain blooms, paint, perfume, and dust. Caffeine is also a popular cause of rebound migraines. Consuming a huge quantity of it regularly is known to reduce the frequency and level of intensity of migraines. Cold cuts and processed meat are also observed to cause migraine because of its tyramine and nitrate content. There are also lifestyle triggers such as sleep deprivation, stress, hormones, fasting, and others. For women, migraine may also be caused by a decline in estrogen in the blood which happens before menstruation.

The medical community has yet to establish migraine cures; it is not possible to come up with them if the exact causes of migraine are still unknown. There are however several lifestyle changes that can make migraine more bearable. Avoiding the food items that trigger migraine is one good method of prevention. Aerobic exercise can also help a lot since it can relieve stress. Moderate means of exercise such as walking, hiking, treadmill, and elliptical machines would go a long way in migraine prevention. There are also instances wherein physicians would recommend behavioral treatments such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and biofeedback therapy as well as many relaxation techniques.
