Races start at the Lynx Exhibits, 300 W. San Antonio Street (beside the El Paso Convention Center). Expo, late registration, and packet pick-up will be at the Hilton Garden Inn, 111. W. University Ave. on Saturday, March 1st from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Pasta Dinner

The traditional carbo-loading dinner, limited to 300 people and open to friends and family, is from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 1st at Club 101, 3233 N. Mesa St. Tickets are $6 each. Dinner will be provided by Cappetto’s Italian Restaurant.

Blessing of the Feet

Father Michael will lead the ceremony to bless the runner’s feet the night prior to the big race. It will be the start of truly unique and annual ritual for the Michelob Ultra El Paso Marathon!

Sun Bowl Fans fill El Paso Hotels

10.56 million.

That’s the estimated economic impact of last year’s Brut Sun Bowl on El Paso, according to a yet-to-be-released study done of the game.  Hotel Reservations

That number is below the $12 million to $15 million economic-impact estimate that Sun Bowl officials have been using.

“I think over $10 million in one week is a lot of money,” said Bernie Olivas, executive director of the Sun Bowl Association, who said he had no details from the study.

The study was done by the Institute for Policy and Economic Development at the University of Texas at El Paso, which has not yet submitted a completed study, Olivas said.

“I’m upset we still don’t have it,” Olivas said.

David Schauer, associate professor of economics and finance at UTEP, and the person who oversaw the study, said he couldn’t release its findings because it was done for the Sun Bowl, which paid for it.

The Sun Bowl was given a summary of the findings more than a month ago, and a complete report is to be given to the Sun Bowl soon, Schauer said.

The $10.56 million estimated economic impact is the “sum of incremental business activity from visitors, plus the incremental business activity from team expenditures, plus the estimated value of (national) media exposure,” Schauer said.

“The number is lower than many might anticipate” because the estimated 8,000 visitors for last year’s game is 1,000 fewer than the estimated 9,000 who attended the 1995 Sun Bowl, which was the previous time a study was done, Schauer said.
