Where are donors working in Malawi? A new dataset from the Strauss Center and AidData opens up and presents the data

This week, the Strauss Center’s CCAPS Program and AidData published a first-of-its-kind geocoded dataset from the Government of Malawi's Aid Management Platform. These data are also available through the CCAPS dashboard, which enables users to overlay and visualize data on climate change vulnerability, conflict, and aid, and analyze how these issues intersect in Africa. The geocoded aid dataset was created in partnership with Malawi's Ministry of Finance (MoF). It includes sub-national geocodes for approximately 550 aid projects undertaken in Malawi since 2000, representing nearly $5.3 billion in total commitments or roughly 80% of all aid reported to the MoF during that time. -

A place for men at #awidforum? Reflecting on @IDS_UK Cape Town session "Women's Empowerment: What have men got to do with it?"

Having just browsed the website for the upcoming AWID Forum (19-22 April 2012), I can't find any mention of men. This is despite the fact that the 2008 AWID conference panel, "Women's Empowerment: What have men got to do with it?" (organised by IDS and partners) was rated the 4th most popular in the AWID evaluation of all the 112 events. While I understand the importance of focusing on the development of women, I also think there should be more of a focus on developing masculinities. -

The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) has been in collaboration with the National Library Service of Malawi (NLS) and is supporting the establishment of the National Digital Repository of Research for Malawi (NDR). The repository is being housed at the NLS and is jointly being managed by the NLS, the Malawi Libary and Information Consortium (MALICO) and the National Commission of Science and Technology (NCST). The repository will also link to the work of the Malawi Development Exchange (MDE). -

Since 2008 the Eldis project at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) UK has hosted an online resource library, The Eldis Governance Assessments dossier, as part of a long-term partnership with the UNDP Global Programme on Democratic Governance Assessments. To mark the end of this collaboration we have collated a selection of documents from the library on to a CDROM. The disc contains over 200 resources from a range of different experts, institutions and organisations that work in the field of governance assessments. -
