OK I have had it a few weeks now so here are the things I love about my iPad and the things that are a bit annoying
It is light and I don't have to carry a lead
The battery life is brilliant
It is really fast
Photos and video brilliant
the calendar is great
Favourite apps
Things -to do list
Pages- for creating docs
PDFreader -for downloading and reading PDFs from the Web
Dropbox -for getting docs in and out
Keynote- for presentations
Brushes -for drawing
Ghostwriter -for notemaking
Osfoora -for managing tweets
I have only used my laptop twice since I bought it
I went for wifi only and don't regret it hardly ever been an occasion when I needed 3G and iphone did not suffice

Not so good
can be tricky to get docs in and out- especially PDFs
could not get the projector at work to recognise it (also having to spend another £25 on yet another connector
A good stylus would be useful for note-taking have tried a couple with varying degrees of success- my fingers are slim but sometimes not slim enough.
Apple don't make a screen protector but found good one at Micro Anvika in Tottenham Court Road

I have been doing a bit of investigation into augmented reality and apart from the usual phone apps that tell you where the nearest underground. loo or hotdog stall is there are some really amazing innovations- I know they have to have a role in education just not sure what they are yet a couple of my favourites below

notes from Virtual Policy Network Forum 22-23rd July 2008

The forum took place at BERR
The full list of speakers is on the VPN website- these are my thoughts and key points that I brought away from the event

There are different types of virtual worlds that have different purposes and therefore different needs in terms of governance and policy
Social worlds like second life
Games worlds like world of warcraft and corporate worlds set up for business and training

There has been insufficient investment in education and research into these area compared to china and Asia – China is building 4 universities for games development

Trends in virtual worlds are towards browser based and free to play models although still room for thick client worlds like Second Life
The general consensus is that we are moving toward a model of more integration between the 2d and 3d web and toward interoperability between virtual worlds. One experiment successfully enabled avatars to teleport between Second Life and an open sim.
The people are the most important element in any virtual world and without a community of users you do not have a game or social space.

Validating identities was an issue that received a lot of discussion – is some context such as business spaces this was seen as essential. There was discussion around whether or not people should be able to customise their avatar in a business environment or have to select from a range or preloaded characters. People are learning to live with multiple identities and there were different opinions as to whether or not this was a good thing.
There are already a lot of organisations involved in policing and regulating the Internet and different laws apply in different countries (for example US and UK). It is extremely complex to develop and enforce appropriate legislation. There was a lot of discussion as to whether real world legislation should extend into virtual worlds.
Copyright was another big topic along with virtual currencies and whether or not they were in fact currencies at all. Too complex to go into these issues in any detail here but you will find more info on the Virtual Policy Network website.
Media literacy is going to be important for the next generation of users. There are a lot of educational institutions with empty virtual spaces -perhaps because the pedagogy has not caught up with the technology?
Lots of drivers for the use of virtual worlds including price of oil reducing carbon footprint and interesting things going on in military and medical training in particular.
The overall consensus was that a one size fits all approach to policy for virtual worlds would not work because they have different uses, users, governance and cultures.
