One of the reasons why electric pressure cookers have become so popular lately is because they are safer than their predecessors and are easier to use. But, can electric pressure cookers explode?

The chances of an electric pressure cooker exploding are very few. Nowadays, almost all pressure cooker manufacturers have come up with special safety systems to help protect the consumer from injury. However, faulty parts or mishandling of the electric pressure cooker can cause an explosion.

With that said, let’s take a look at the various reasons that can make an electric pressure explode.

Reasons Why An Electric Pressure Cooker Can Explode?

Although the pressure cookers are used as stovetops for more than 300 years, their popularity rose during the World War II when comfort became a growing need in American kitchens.

The 1990s saw the invention of electric pressure cookers. And nowadays, many cookers come integrated with programmable characteristics. The problem with these new programmable electric pressure cookers is that some manufacturers have produced faulty designs peviously. Since these devices cook at such high temperatures and produce hot steam, accidents can be caused by only one poorly designed or manufactured part.

The reasons why electric pressure cookers may explode are listed below:

Steam is generated at a faster rate than can be managed by the pressure regulator, possibly because boiled foods block the pressure regulator.

The electric pressure cooker has too much of water add into it.

If the vent is defective, the lid may open prematurely, causing the contents to explode.

A safety pressure release system which is somehow obstructed can also cause an explosion.

Excessive pressure can build up due to overloading of food in the cooker. This can result in an explosion.

If the lid is not properly fixed, steam can get thrown from the lid and it can also throw boiling hot food and metal parts around the kitchen.

Although the vessel itself can break, instead of the lid or some other part, it will never break down into pieces. However, a tear can probably take place at high stress levels.

The cooker content can cause too much pressure and lead to an explosion when cooked at very high temperature.

When no one is manually monitoring the cooker, the equipment may overheat and cause fire or explosion if the automatic shutdown is defective.

The expelled material can be as dangerous more than the vessel itself, because a large amount of heat can be transferred quickly, leading to severe burns.

How To Avoid Electric Pressure Cooker Explosion?

Cooking in a cooker using pressure is very beneficial, but many people often hesitate to use a cooker because of potential accidents that can take place. You can use a pressure cooker and cook faster once you follow certain tips to stay safe. Let us now see how to keep your pressure cooker safe from any damage.

Don’t Overload The Cooker

Don’t fill up the pressure cooker over two thirds of its capacity to prevent food from blocking the valves. Foods such as beans and grains should only cover about half the cooker because they tend to swell when cooked.

Check The Equipment Thoroughly

Check the gasket or ring for no breakage before using the pressure cooker. You should also change the gasket periodically. Keep the cooker clean and ensure that no food remains on the ring and it is dried out before next use.

Add Sufficient Water

Checking whether your pressure cooker can build sufficient pressure into it is very important. Take one half cup of water and ensure that the cooker can build up sufficient pressure to cook perfectly. When you see that the pressure does not build, add some more water to get the right pressure. Your pressure cooker is ready to cook once you have sufficient water.

Release Pressure Safely

The pressure is released in three ways: by simply removing the heat from the cooker and letting it sit down, pouring cold water over the lid of a closed pan, or using the steam release valve for releasing the steam. Protect your hands with pot holders when you handle the cooker and make sure that your body, hand, and face are away from the released steam. When you open the cooker, the hot steam will still escape from the pan. So when you open the pan, tap the lid and hold it over the pan. This will ensure that the hot condensation does not drop on you.

Don’t Overfill The Cooker

Too much of food should not be added to the cooker at a time. They can obstruct the safety valve and cause accidents. Some foods, such as oats, rice, grains etc. swell in size after getting cooked. That is why you should never fill the cooker up to its maximum level.

Thoroughly Clean The Cooker

Remove the gasket, lid, and pot to wash them separately. To make sure that the valve moves freely and does not get stuck, clean it with a toothpick. After cleaning, keep the cooker lid upside down on the pot instead of locking it.

Final Thoughts

Before you begin using an electric pressure cooker, make sure that you have the proper safety precautions in place. so that you can avoid accidents from using the device.

In order to keep yourself safe, it’s crucial that you learn the basic safety rules to follow before you start using any kind of electric device in your home.

Electric Pressure Cookers are very common nowadays. Cooking becomes very easy when you use these pressure cookers. But, do electric pressure cookers make noise?

Yes, electric pressure cookers do make some noise. The noise usually comes from the safety release valve as it releases the pressure built inside the cooker. However, usually this noise isn’t too loud. Moreover, some modern electric pressure cookers very silent compared to other traditional cookers.

But, is an electric pressure cooker supposed to make noise?

Is Electric Pressure Cooker Supposed To Make Noise?

Due to the technical advances in the construction of electric pressure cookers, most of them are practically operate quietly nowadays. However, they do make some noise when it comes to the pressure generated during cooking. But in general, steam does not make much noise from the safety valves during the cooking process, which is why electric pressure cookers are usually so quiet.

Unlike some of the non-electric stovetop cookers that make a peculiar sound when the steam escapes during cooking, electric pressure cookers have an in-built mechanisms to reduce noise. For example, mechanisms such as special valves ensure that the excess steam generated during the cooking process is released silently.

Why Electric Pressure Cookers Make Noise?

There is a protective pressure release valve on the electric pressure cookers. The noise during the cooking process is due this valve.

The function of the pressure release value is to automatically open and release a part of the pressure when the internal pressure of the cooker rises too high. This is normally just warm steam that shoots up.

In addition, if the cooker lid has not sat all the way down or if the silicone ring inside the cooker is worn and does not operate as expected, the electric pressure cooker will make noise.

You should immediately open the pressure release valve and unplug the electric pressure cooker if you ever see steam coming from the lid’s edge instead of the pressure release valve.

How To Reduce Electric Pressure Cooker Noise?

Electric Pressure Cookers are constructed with mechanisms such as springs and special valves, which slowly and quietly release excess steam accumulated during the entire cooking process.

Electric cookers are quieter than most stovetops because they can more effectively control the pressure, reducing the effect of the output noise. Yet noise is inevitable to a certain degree.

In order to prevent undue pressure, the pressure cooker must be able to release the pressure. It does this through a small vent. This is how the electric pressure cooker manages to keep working. So if the vent is big, you’re going to get less noise, but the pan will no longer create pressure for proper cooking.

Always make sure the vent pipe is clean. The electric pressure cooker tends to make more noise when the vent pipe is not cleaned after previous cooking.

Today we will learn Lemon Cheesecake Recipe which you can easily prepare using an Electric Pressure Cooker.

This lemon cheesecake recipe will make a 7-inch cake.

Serves: Approximately 6 to 8 pieces

Ingredients of Lemon Cheesecake Recipe

6 pieces of 1 ½ inch Gingersnap Cookies, crushed into crumbs

1 ¾ tablespoon Toasted Almonds, finely chopped

½ tablespoon melted Unsalted Butter

1 ¼ pound regular Cream Cheese, cut into 1-inch pieces, at room temperature

¾ cup Granulated Sugar

2 big Eggs

¾ Lemon Zest, finely chopped

1 tablespoon fresh Lemon Juice

1 ¾ teaspoon pure Vanilla Extract

Optional Garnishes: fresh Blueberries, Raspberries or Strawberries

Steps to prepare Lemon Cheesecake Recipe

Take a 7×3 Spring-form pan and lightly coat it with melted unsalted butter or you can also coat it with cooking spray.

Now place a sheet of plastic wrap (about 16×16 inches) on top of a sheet of aluminum foil of the same size.

Place the Spring-form pan in the center of these sheets and wrap the exterior tightly.

Take a small bowl and mix the cookie crumbs, toasted almonds and melted butter.

Put this mixture into the prepared pan and turn to dust the sides of the pan. Press the remainder of the mixture onto the bottom of the pan. Reserve it.

Now pour cream cheese and sugar in a food processor. Process it until it becomes smooth, for about 15 to 20 seconds.

Mix in the eggs, lemon zest, lemon juice, and vanilla in the food processor and process it for 10 seconds.

Now scrape down the food processor bowl and process for another 5 seconds. Or the cheesecake batter can be combined using a hand mixer on low speed.

Now pour this batter into the prepared pan.

Place the rack/trivet in the cooking pot of the electric pressure cooker and add 2 cups of water.

Now take a piece of aluminum foil about 24 inches long and fold it in half lengthwise, then fold in half again two more times to create a strip which is about 24 inches in length and 2 inches wide to make a “cradle”.

Place the cradle strip on the counter and place the filled Spring-form pan in the center.

Cover the cheesecake with a piece of buttered aluminum foil, making the sides tight, but allow some room for the cheesecake to expand.

Pull the ends of the cradle strip upward and now use the cradle to help lower the cheesecake into the cooking pot of the electric pressure cooker.

Now place on the trivet. Cover and lock lid in place. Select High Pressure and set timer for 9 minutes.

After you hear the beep sounds, release the pressure. User natural pressure release if your electric pressure cooker provides it.

Remove the cheesecake from the cooking pot using the foil strips to lift up.

Place it on a cooling rack. Remove foil and plastic wrap. If moisture has accumulated on the top, dab gently with a paper towel to remove it.

Let the cake cool to room temperature then cover and refrigerate.

Before serving remove the cheesecake from the Spring-form pan and garnish it if desired.

Approximate Nutritional Value of Lemon Cheesecake Recipe

The approximate Nutritional Value per 8 servings is:

Calories: 299 (67% from fat)

Carbohydrates: 19g

Protein: 6g

Fat: 14g

Fiber: 0g

You have paid a good amount of money to buy your electric pressure cooker. You know how your electric pressure cooker works and benefits of using it. But do you know how to clean an electric pressure cooker?

Your investment in your electric pressure cooker can turn out to be an absolute waste if you neglect cleaning of your electric pressure cooker.

There are various things you should be doing while cleaning your electric pressure cooker.

In this article we will precisely see what steps you should be taking to clean an electric pressure cooker.

But before we start with the steps, always keep these following points in mind:

Never ever put the electric pressure cooker in a dish washer,

Always clean an electric pressure cooker after every use or

Clean it before using, if it has been kept idle for an extended period of time,

Do not use abrasive cleaners to clean the electric pressure cooker.

Steps to take to clean an electric pressure cooker

Given below are the general steps you should be taking to clean your electric pressure cooker. For cleaning of any specific part, you should refer your electric pressure cooker manual.

Step 1: Before starting the cleaning

Unplug the electric pressure cooker from the electric outlet and allow it to cool if it is hot after use.

Remove the lid and cooking pot from the main body of the electric pressure cooker.

Step 2: Cleaning the Main Body

Take a clean damp cloth and then gently wipe the main body.

You can use warm soapy water for dampening the cloth if the food residue does not get cleaned with water.

Do not submerge the main body in the sink full of water or in a dish washer.

Some electric pressure cookers have small units or reservoirs for collecting the excess condensation. You can remove this unit and wash in warm soapy water. Do remember to dry it thoroughly before attaching it back to the main body.

Step 3: Cleaning the Cooking Pot

Usually Cooking Pots can be washed in a dish washer. Read your manual to confirm.

If you are cleaning the cooking pot by hand then use warm soapy water.

The inner side of the cooking pot is usually non-stick coated. So use soft cloth or sponge while cleaning the interior of the cooking pot.

Completely dry the cooking pot before putting it back into the main body.

Step 4: Cleaning the Lid

Use warm water or warm soapy water to clean the lid.

Take care in cleaning the various values, knobs and pressure regulator on the lid. Clean and dry them thoroughly.

Some electric pressure cooker lids have rubber gasket. To clean the rubber gasket, remove it from the lid and rinse it in warm soapy water. Dry it completely before attaching it back to the lid.

Pay special attention to the rubber gasket’s shape. If it is distorted or hardened then replace it with a new one.

Step 5: Drying the parts

Completely dry each and every part before attaching them back.

You can use a soft cloth for drying the parts.

Not cleaning your electric pressure cooker properly or avoiding it all together can cause it to mal-function or cause formation of stale odors inside it. And in extreme cases it can even spoil the food being prepared.

Clean your electric pressure cooker regularly to ensure that your cooker will operate at optimal performance for a longer time.

How do you clean an electric pressure cooker? We would like to know. Let us and other reader know about your method of cleaning in the comments below.

Points to remember while operating Fagor® Electric Pressure Cooker

Fagor® Electric Pressure Cooker has a smaller diameter and bigger height as compared to other electric pressure cookers. So preparing a dish with say a big flat piece of meat can be a little tedious.

The cooking pot does not have handles. So pouring the dish out once it is cooked can also be a little tedious. But this is the case with most of the electric cookers and so we wouldn’t worry about it much.

A recipe booklet which comes along with Fagor® Electric Pressure Cooker has 40 different recipes for the 3 cooking programs.

But as with other electric pressure cookers, to prepare your own recipes, you will have to experiment a bit.

We recommend that you consider buying the following recipe books:

Miss Vickie’s Big Book of Pressure Cooker Recipes and

Pressure Perfect: Two Hour Taste in Twenty Minutes Using Your Pressure Cooker

Final verdict on Fagor® Electric Pressure Cooker

Cuisinart® Electric Pressure Cooker CPC-600 comes with following 6 different settings:

High Pressure of 10 PSI,

Low Pressure of 6 PSI,

Browning,

Saute,

Simmer and

Keep Warm

Browning settings helps to cook food at high temperature before pressure cooking, without keeping the lid on the pressure cooker.

Saute setting helps to soften up the vegetables or cook rice prior to pressure cooking, without the lid.

Simmer setting allows heating liquids at low temperatures. Typically this setting is used at the end of the cooking cycle.

While Keep Warm setting helps to keep the food warm for up to 12 hours after cooking cycle is over. Cuisinart® electric pressure cooker shifts to this setting automatically at the end of the cooking cycle.

The build quality of Cuisinart® electric pressure cooker makes it possible to trap the steam inside which results in high pressure and rise in temperature making cooking different items that much easier.

Cuisinart® electric pressure cooker needs less liquid for cooking as compared to traditional cookers because of which fewer nutrients are lost in evaporation and more nutrients are preserved than traditional cookers.

A tight sealed space is created within the cooker which results in locking the heat, flavor and moisture inside the cooker. This helps in making the food more tasty and healthy.

A vertical Control Panel is available on the body of Cuisinart® electric pressure cooker. It has easy to use push-buttons along with a LED display.

On the body, cool-touch handles are available so that you don’t end up burning your hands while handling this electric pressure cooker.

Cuisinart® electric pressure cooker comes with non-stick coated cooking pot which makes it easier to clean it manually as well as in dishwasher.

The pressure cooker will begin to heat.

There is a red float will rise as pressure builds. It may take several minutes to reach the selected pressure level, and once it is reached the light in lower right-hand corner of LED will stop flashing and remain lit.
