Hi does anybody here know why are cats highly susceptible to permethrin toxicity? and what is the metabolic reason for this? ( I know that glucoronyl transferase and sodium channels are responsible, but I cant find a source that has good explanation on its pathogenesis in relation to its clinical signs)

I'm sure all of you have had wicked experience dealing with flying cats that're just simply angry with the world.. With that, I'm always confident to say that many of us had suffered at least a bite or two on the fingers..sometimes at the joint :<
My question is, how do you all manage the swelling, and the possible infection?

Although I immediately wash my fingers, and flush with cefa, start myself on oral amoxyclav and some anti-inflammatory ( melox on 2nd day, and danzen on every subsequent day) I still land up with fever, and end up seeing a doctor.

Please advise on how the management !

Hello, I am a young Malaysian very keen to be a successful veterinary surgeon and relatively good in medicine as well! I have self studied as much as I can (Mostly Anatomy), pursued to be a vet technician in Singapore, worked as a vet technician in Singapore, and now I'm finally in vet school in Murdoch University after all the hard work ! I'm very grateful for this oppurtunity!

When I was working as a technician, all my spare time was dedicated to self studying, and many of these resources from here helped me through that. All these materials helped me understood many surgical procedures and the reason behind its logic as well as other treatment modalities/emergency management...etc. I have benefited so much from materials shared. I'm not well off and all these sharing had made my learning possible.. struggling to pay school fees now..
I just started week one in Perth, and I guess I still have a long way to go ! Recently I've got a question in mind, hopefully anyway that reads this can answer :D
What do you think makes a successful veterinarian ?

Hello to everyone ! I'll look out for books to share and do my part as well !

Panleukopenia in a 4 months old cat - any suggestions?

The cat's been adopted from a shelter, never vaccinated. Mother of kitten was euthanised due to FPV infection 2 days after adoption. On that day clinical signs in kitten occured as anorexia and mild apathy and mild dehydration.
We started treatment immediately with subcutaneous lactated ringer solution, amoxicilline clavulanate (25mg/kg/day), ranitidine 2,5mg/kg q8h, cerenia 2mg/kg/day and vitamin b 12 (biodyl of Merial) 0,8ml (all the s/c route). The cat was force fed small amounts of a/d 5 times daily.
Next morning the cat was better, the therapy continued, the cat force fed as described, but in afternoon the temperature was raised (40,2°C) Besides the described therapy the cat got meloxicam. The condition improved.
On the third day morning massive salivation started, even though on a cerenia treatment the cat vomitted, diarrhoea occurred as well. The temperature dropped to 38,1, dehydration got more moderate. We continued therapy with antibiotic, ranitidine, cerenia, vitamin B12 and lactated ringer. The cat was not fed. The tempeature raised to 38,7. Other signs did not improve.
Today is the fourth day of clinical signs. The cat still has massive salivation, refuses to eat and drink, temperature in the morning was 38,1. We decided to put an i/v catheter and lactated ringer 18ml/h, also adding antibiotic metronidazole 25mg/kg iv q12h, 5% glucose solution after 3 hours of continuous infusion and metoclopramide 0,3mg/kg q 6h instead of cerenia. The cat's temperature dropped to 37,7. Tha cat is still struggling and reacts very lively to any kind of manipulation. After metoclopramide application salivation is reduced.
Does anyone have any further suggestion?

Thanx for advice.
