The East London Industrial Development Zone SOC Ltd (ELIDZ), an entity of the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT), today unveiled a portfolio of digital economy infrastructure projects with a combined investment value exceeding R330 million, at the Eastern Cape Digital Economy Summit 2026, in line with the Province’s broader digital transformation agenda, led by the Office of the Premier.

The investments include a R76 million Tier III-aligned Data Centre funded by the Eastern Cape Provincial Government, a R65 million Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Shared Services facility supported by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic), and R181 million in broadband and undersea cable enablement driven through private sector investment. This is complemented by a R2.8 million Digital Hub implemented by ELIDZ through a public-private partnership, and a R5 million Cisco EDGE Centre funded by private sector partners.

Collectively, these investments reflect a coordinated funding model across government and industry, establishing an integrated digital platform to support industry, attract investment, and expand economic participation.

Led by the Honourable Premier, the delegation comprising Members of the Executive Council including the MEC for DEDEAT, Ms Nonkqubela Pieters, senior officials, industry stakeholders, investors and the media visited key sites within the Zone to engage directly with infrastructure that is already operational and positioned for immediate utilisation.

These developments build on the ELIDZ’s evolution from a platform for export-led industrialisation into a globally recognised Eco-Industrial Park, and now into a more integrated, digitally enabled operating environment.

In his address, ELIDZ Chief Executive Officer, Mr Tembela Zweni, outlined the Zone’s transition into a Zone 4.0 operating model, where industrial capability and digital infrastructure function as a single, coordinated system.

He emphasised that the digital economy in the Eastern Cape is no longer conceptual. It is operational, investable, and focused on execution. While the Zone’s core mandate to reduce risk, remove barriers, and accelerate investment remains unchanged, competitiveness now depends on access to reliable data systems, connectivity, skills, and innovation capacity within an integrated platform.

Within this framework, Mr Zweni presented five flagship projects anchoring the Zone 4.0 model.

The Tier III-aligned Data Centre, developed at a cost of R76 million, serves as the digital backbone of the Zone. Designed to meet international standards, it delivers 99.982% uptime, operates on a carrier-neutral architecture, and has scalable capacity of up to 1MW across six data halls, aligned with ISO 27001, 27017 and 27018 standards. The facility enables secure, local hosting of government and enterprise systems, strengthens data sovereignty and supports data-driven industries. Government institutions, SOEs, and digital service providers are encouraged to localise and host systems within this facility.

The Digital Hub, supported by R2.8 million, is focused on innovation, incubation, and SMME development within the Science and Technology Park. It provides prototyping, testing, and commercialisation pathways, linking emerging enterprises to market opportunities. Public sector and industry stakeholders are encouraged to utilise the Hub for solution development and collaboration with SMMEs.

The 800-seat BPO and Shared Services facility, backed by R65 million, is designed for global service delivery and integrated with the Zone’s digital infrastructure. It is expected to generate approximately 2,400 direct

jobs through multi-shift operations, providing structured employment pathways for graduates and young professionals.

Operators, government, and enterprises are invited to establish and scale service operations within the facility.

The R181 million broadband and undersea cable enablement initiative strengthens connectivity through increased bandwidth, reduced latency, and resilient infrastructure. It enables direct integration into global digital networks, supporting high-performance operations across sectors. Telecommunications providers and infrastructure partners are encouraged to collaborate in expanding connectivity and network capacity.

The Cisco EDGE Centre, representing R5 million in private sector investment, focuses on building industry-aligned digital skills in areas such as networking, cybersecurity, and cloud computing. It supports workforce readiness, innovation and entrepreneurship. Public and private sector stakeholders are encouraged to leverage this platform to develop talent pipelines aligned to industry demand.

Mr Zweni noted that the full value of these investments lies in their integration, linking infrastructure, connectivity, skills, and innovation into a single operating environment that reduces fragmentation and accelerates implementation. He called on investors, operators, government institutions, and technology partners to move from interest to action to locate, deploy, partner, and scale within the ELIDZ ecosystem.

The Honourable Premier, in his reflections, situated these developments within the province’s broader economic recovery. He highlighted the COVID-19 period as a turning point that reinforced the importance of digital infrastructure in sustaining government operations, supporting business continuity, and ensuring access to services.

This context informed the allocation of R76 million through the Provincial Stimulus Fund for the development of the Data Centre, now operational within the Zone. The Premier welcomed the CEO’s

announcement of the Zone 4.0 platform, noting its significance in strengthening the Eastern Cape’s position in the global digital economy.

He emphasised the importance of translating these investments into tangible socio-economic outcomes, particularly in relation to job creation, skills development, and support for SMMEs. The BPO facility, Digital Hub, and EDGE Centre were highlighted as key mechanisms for expanding participation, creating employment, and building a future-ready workforce.

These initiatives align with the province’s strategic focus on digital transformation as a key growth frontier, alongside manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, and the ocean economy, while also enhancing competitiveness across sectors.

By linking infrastructure with skills and enterprise support, the approach is intended to expand access to opportunities and support inclusive participation, including in rural and township economies.

With these assets now in place, the next phase will focus on utilisation and partnerships. Stakeholders across government, industry, and the private sector are encouraged to leverage the platform to support operations, drive investment, and scale economic activity.

The developments presented at the Summit reflect a clear progression towards integrated capability, reinforcing a focus on execution, coordination, and measurable impact.

Insights by the ELIDZ ICT Department

South Africa is in the midst of a significant digital shift. Across government, industry and development institutions, digitalisation is increasingly regarded as essential to improving efficiency, transparency and access to services. In many respects, this shift is both necessary and overdue. A modern economy cannot function effectively without embracing digital tools and systems.

For the purposes of this discussion, it is useful to distinguish between digitisation and digitalisation. Digitisation refers to the conversion of records, information and processes from paper based or analogue formats into digital form. Digitalisation speaks to a broader change — the restructuring of systems, institutional processes and service delivery models around digital technologies. While these terms are often used interchangeably, the difference matters, particularly when considering questions of access and inclusion.

From the perspective of institutions driving reform, the benefits of digitalisation are clear. Digital systems can streamline processes, improve data management and extend the reach of services. In a resource constrained environment, digital solutions are often viewed as the most practical way to scale impact and improve delivery.

Yet the lived reality for many South Africans is more complex.

Digital infrastructure remains unevenly distributed across the country. While some areas benefit from advanced connectivity and stable access, many rural and peripheral communities continue to face limited or unreliable internet, high data costs, unstable electricity and low levels of digital literacy. In this context, the digital divide continues to reflect broader social and economic inequalities.

As more public services, employment processes and everyday economic activities move online, digital access is no longer optional. Job applications, grant systems, licensing processes, healthcare bookings and learning platforms increasingly assume reliable connectivity and a level of digital confidence. For people who rely on prepaid data, shared devices or public access points, this shift introduces new and often invisible barriers.
This tension is particularly evident in the digitalisation of public services. Online platforms and automated systems are introduced to improve efficiency and access, yet challenges arise when physical alternatives are withdrawn too quickly or when users are expected to navigate complex systems without adequate support. In such instances, exclusion does not result from policy intent, but from the way systems are designed and implemented.

A recurring risk in rapid digital reform is the assumption that access equals inclusion. Technical connectivity does not necessarily translate into meaningful participation. Digital systems require confidence, familiarity and skills, especially as platforms become more sophisticated. Without deliberate investment in digital literacy and ongoing support, digitalisation risks benefiting those who are already digitally enabled, while leaving others behind.

There is also a tendency to treat digital transformation as a technical exercise, rather than as a social one. Systems may function well from an institutional perspective, yet fail to account for realities such as intermittent connectivity, power disruptions or shared access to devices. When these realities are overlooked, trust in digital systems weakens and the intended benefits of reform are undermined.

An additional challenge lies in the digitisation of government records and documents. Public institutions are custodians of vast amounts of information that underpin service delivery, accountability and institutional memory. As digitisation accelerates, paper based systems, legacy archives and digital platforms often coexist. This uneven transition results in duplication, delays and administrative uncertainty.

For citizens, the consequences are immediate. Applications stall, records are misplaced between systems and individuals are required to resubmit information already held by the state. Those with limited digital access bear the highest burden, as repeated submissions carry financial, time and emotional costs.

Reluctance to digitise fully within parts of the public service is not always resistance to change. In many cases, it reflects legitimate concerns around data security, legal compliance, skills readiness and accountability. Physical records can offer a sense of certainty in environments already under pressure. However, when this hesitation results in fragmented systems, it compounds exclusion and undermines continuity, particularly for those least able to navigate complexity.

These realities point to a broader consideration: inclusive digitalisation cannot be achieved by any single actor acting alone. Closing the digital divide requires coordinated action across government, the private sector, development institutions and civil society.

Government has a responsibility to recognise digitalisation not only as a technical reform, but as a social and economic shift. This includes aligning reform timelines with realities on the ground, retaining assisted access points for essential services and ensuring that the introduction of digital systems does not outpace citizens’ ability to engage meaningfully.

The private sector, as a major driver of digital innovation, must also reflect on its role. While technological advancement and automation are reshaping industries, these gains risk remaining concentrated unless deliberate efforts are made to expand access, invest in skills and support affordable connectivity. Digital inclusion should be understood not only as a social good, but as a foundation for long term economic participation.

Development institutions and innovation hubs similarly need to consider whether digital interventions are reaching beyond early adopters and urban centres. Platforms and training programmes must be designed for accessibility and scale, rather than for demonstration alone.

For institutions actively promoting digital capability, including the East London Industrial Development Zone (ELIDZ), this context underlines the importance of pairing advocacy with practical enablement. Through its Science and Technology Park, the ELIDZ facilitates access to Cisco accredited ICT training programmes aimed at building digital skills in the Eastern Cape. These initiatives contribute to strengthening digital capability, but their impact depends on sustained support and integration into broader inclusion efforts.

Ultimately, digital readiness cannot be assumed. It must be built deliberately, supported consistently and grounded in lived realities. Progress should be measured not by the number of platforms launched or documents digitised, but by capability built, trust strengthened and participation widened.

The NatuReS II Regional Learning Exchange 2026 concluded yesterday at the East London Industrial Development Zone (ELIDZ), marking the end of three days of intensive dialogue, hands‑on learning and regional collaboration focused on strengthening water stewardship in Africa’s industrial regions.

Hosted from 24–26 February 2026 by the ELIDZ in partnership with the GIZ Natural Resources Stewardship Programme II (NatuReS II), the gathering brought together delegates from South Africa, Ethiopia, Zambia and Tanzania, uniting government leaders, private sector representatives, water managers, academia, civil society and development partners under one shared mission.

From the outset, the event centered on the theme “From Source to Industry: Stewardship Multi‑Stakeholder Partnerships for Socio‑Ecological Transformation and Water‑Smart Industrial Futures.” This theme shaped the flow of discussions, grounding every conversation in the reality of a changing climate, increasing water risks and the urgent need for collective, systems‑level approaches to sustainable industrial development.

“This theme is not aspirational for us — it reflects who we are today and the future we are deliberately building. It speaks to our long‑standing commitment to environmentally responsible industrialisation and our intentional transition toward a water‑smart, eco‑industrial model grounded in science, governance and partnership,” said Ayanda Ramncwana, Chief Operations Officer of the ELIDZ.

She noted that operating in a water‑stressed province demands responsibility, foresight and discipline, which is why the ELIDZ embeds environmental governance, monitoring systems, green‑building principles and risk‑based management into its operations. “At the centre of this transition is water, because our priority sectors are water‑dependent, and secure, well‑governed water systems are now fundamental to competitiveness, investor confidence and long‑term resilience.”

A major thread running through the exchange was the recognition that industries can no longer depend on a single, traditional water source. Speakers and technical experts repeatedly highlighted the need for decreasing water risk, especially as climate variability intensifies. A task which cannot be tackled successfully by one sector alone, rather requires collaborative action including a wide range of stakeholders – including public and private sector and civil society. Delegates explored a range of alternative water sourcing methods, examining how each contributes to building long‑term operational stability and resilience.

Rainwater harvesting featured strongly in the discussions, not as an idea but as a practical, underused solution with immense potential. Several speakers emphasised how harvesting rainwater can reduce pressure on municipal systems, offer an emergency buffer during shortages, and help industries lower their operational and environmental footprint.

The discussions around rainwater collection illustrated how even simple interventions can significantly strengthen resilience when built into a broader diversified approach.

The ELIDZ’s own Sea Water Pump Station emerged as a compelling real-world case study of alternative source in action. Delegates had the opportunity to explore how seawater abstraction, supported by appropriate treatment technologies, can supplement freshwater supplies and serve process‑specific industrial needs. The visit demonstrated how such systems could enhance resilience in coastal industrial zones that face growing water stress, positioning seawater as a viable and increasingly necessary component of future water portfolios.

Experts also unpacked the role of groundwater supplementation and Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) as part of a holistic water strategy. These insights underscored the importance of responsible governance, careful monitoring and strong catchment‑level collaboration to ensure groundwater use is both safe and sustainable. Complementing this, several case studies illustrated how treated wastewater can be effectively reused in industrial processes, reducing dependency on potable water and advancing the shift toward circular resource management.

Across all sessions, one message was clear: integrated multi‑source water planning is no longer optional. Delegates echoed the need for industrial zones to adopt diversified portfolios combining municipal supply, rainwater harvesting, groundwater use, seawater sourcing and wastewater reuse — a strategic safeguard in a climate‑stressed future.

Reflecting on these insights, Sarah Beerhalter, Head of Programme for GIZ–NatuReS, noted that the discussions and technical visits demonstrated the value of integrated, multi‑source planning and evidence‑based decision‑making. She added that broader water stewardship supported by strong partnerships and scientific insight is essential for building resilient, water‑smart industrial regions capable of withstanding climate pressures and supporting sustainable growth.

The knowledge-rich panel discussions served as the backbone of the exchange, offering regional insights into policy, governance and economic imperatives. Conversations on water resilience and industrial competitiveness demonstrated how water insecurity can disrupt supply chains, undermine export reliability and weaken investor confidence. Experts highlighted the importance of building redundancy through multiple water sources and by applying water efficiency measures, emphasising that coordinated catchment‑level action is now essential for safeguarding the continent’s industrial output.

Industry representatives participating in the business case dialogue shared how stewardship partnerships are helping them de‑risk operations, comply with water efficiency and reuse regulations, and strengthen ESG performance—factors that increasingly influence global investor decisions.

Meanwhile, delegates from Ethiopia, Zambia and Tanzania provided reflective insights into the governance mechanisms needed for effective multi-stakeholder collaboration, underscoring the importance of trust, transparency and locally appropriate partnership models.

From a national perspective, Thami Klaasen, Director for Regional Industrial Development at the dtic, said the exchange directly supports South Africa’s work on strengthening water stewardship in industrial parks and SEZs. He noted that the dtic, together with GIZ, is developing standard operating procedures grounded in accurate data and research, supported through pilots at the ELIDZ, Richards Bay SEZ and parks like Rosslyn. Klaasen stressed that multi‑stakeholder engagement is central to identifying risks and co‑creating solutions and emphasised that decisions on alternative water sources must be informed by scientific evidence rather than assumptions.

The technical tours added an invaluable practical dimension to the exchange. Delegates visited the Science and Technology Park (STP) CAS Laboratory, the ELIDZ Seawater Pump Station and the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM) Wastewater Treatment Plant. These three sites together reflect long-term commitment to a Net Zero Water future.

These visits showed how industrial zones and municipalities can integrate multiple water sources, apply scientific monitoring and build water systems that extend beyond traditional boundaries.

The tours illustrated how the Zone is transitioning from conventional water management to broader water stewardship—where risks are understood and addressed both within the zone and across the surrounding catchment. Such stewardship partnerships not only support economic development but also focus strongly on environmental health and socially fair sharing of resources.

On the final day, discussions centered on the Natural Resources Risk and Action Framework (NRAF), a methodology that helps stakeholders and organizations to operationalize stewardship partnerships and design implementable, risk reducing strategies tailored torealities in African countries. Delegates explored how the framework enhances risk assessment, aligns interests across sectors, and supports multi-stakeholder decision‑making—a critical component in regions facing layered water challenges.

As the programme drew to a close, delegates reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaborative water governance and scaling multiple water‑source initiatives across Africa.

The ELIDZ and GIZ NatuReS renewed their pledge to continue supporting regional partners in advancing water‑smart and climate‑resilient natural resource management for a broad range of stakeholders – including industry.

The gathering ended with a shared recognition that Africa’s industrial future depends on stewardship, innovation and a sustained commitment to resource‑use efficiency, circular models and redesigned water systems for long‑term resilience — indicating that Stewardship Multi‑Stakeholder Partnerships remain a powerful model for collective action on water security across Africa and beyond.

The Eastern Cape came alive with energy, ideas, and ambition as the 2025 Eastern Cape Innovation & Entrepreneurship Week (IEW) unfolded at the East London Industrial Development Zone Science & Technology Park (ELIDZ STP). From 24 to 28 November 2025, students, innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs from across the entire province converged to showcase their ingenuity, engage with industry leaders, and take part in an ecosystem designed to transform ideas into tangible solutions. The week was truly province-wide, drawing participants from East London, Queenstown, Engcobo, Makhanda, Gqeberha, Mthatha, and beyond, demonstrating the depth and breadth of talent across the Eastern Cape.

For five days, the STP became more than a venue, it was a living hub for innovation, where collaboration, mentorship, and practical problem-solving took centre stage. The week marked the culmination of two provincial initiatives: the Eastern Cape Innovation Challenge, which encouraged participants to propose transformative solutions across five eastern cape priority sectors, and the 48-Hour Eastern Cape Hackathon Challenge, a fast-paced competition where teams developed practical digital prototypes addressing youth, SMME, and industrial challenges. Both competitions reflected the province’s commitment to tackling real-world problems while creating pathways to employment and enterprise development.

The week officially began with an inspiring keynote from DEDEAT MEC Ms Nonkqubela Pieters, who called for innovation to become a daily habit, not an occasional event.

“Innovation must become a daily practice in this province — not an occasional event. It is the pathway through which we will diversify our economy, empower young people, and build industries that can compete globally. What we are witnessing here today is not just an exhibition of ideas, but a demonstration of what is possible when the public sector, academia, industry, and innovators work together.”

She highlighted the role of ELIDZ-STP as a catalyst for growth:

“The Eastern Cape is rich with talent, creativity, and ambition. Our responsibility as government is to ensure that this potential is supported, protected, and given the right opportunities to grow. The ELIDZ-STP is a catalytic environment designed to do exactly that — nurture ideas, accelerate innovation, and translate concepts into commercially viable solutions.”

Her message resonated throughout the week, inspiring participants to think big and embrace collaboration as a tool for systemic change.

The competitions were designed with a clear focus, to address the Eastern Cape’s most pressing socio-economic and industrial challenges. With unemployment at 41%, youth is disproportionately affected, the need for innovative solutions that generate jobs and opportunities has never been greater.

The Innovation Challenge encouraged participants to develop solutions tackling barriers such as youth unemployment, food insecurity, unequal access to healthcare and education, slow industrial modernisation, and limited commercialisation of research. Participants were invited to submit proposals across five strategic sectors:

Agri-business and Aquaculture,

Automotive and Mobility,

Digital Economy,

Sustainable Energy,

And Advanced Manufacturing.

The goal was simple but ambitious to create practical, scalable solutions capable of transforming the province’s industries and improving social outcomes.

Meanwhile, the 48-Hour Hackathon focused on bridging critical digital gaps. Teams worked excitedly to produce functioning prototypes that could immediately address challenges such as fragmented youth information systems, limited SMME support tools, and inaccessible industrial data. The Hackathon featured four themes:

ELIDZ Skills Portal,

ELIDZ-STP Interactive App,

An AI-Powered SMME Funding System, and

the Eastern Cape Youth Information Portal—a digital hub centralizing opportunities for young people.

Among the many remarkable moments of the week, one story stood out. Chuma Memela, team leader of Innovator 24, led his team to victory in Theme Four of the Hackathon, the Eastern Cape Youth Information Portal.

“First hackathon and first win! Today marks a big achievement for our team,” Memela said.

“We were one of the four winning teams, competing against more than 30 teams and over 200 participants across East London, Bisho, Mthatha and beyond. We took first place in the theme focused on designing a youth portal that centralises opportunities for young people. Our team walked away with R100,000, and the IDZ has pledged a further R240,000 towards developing the solution in the coming year. The final product will be handed over to the IDZ to fully own and roll out for public use. For a first hackathon experience, this was powerful. I am grateful to my team, the mentors, and the organisers who created a space where ideas could grow. We are excited for what comes next.”

The Youth Information Portal promises to streamline access to bursaries, learnerships, skills programmes, and career opportunities, providing young people across the province with the tools and information they need to thrive in an increasingly competitive job market.

ELIDZ CEO, Mr. Thembela Zweni, reflected on the broader significance of the week:

“At ELIDZ, innovation is not just a buzzword — it is the engine of inclusive growth and sustainable development. Our mission is to cultivate forward-looking thinkers, makers, and problem-solvers who will shape the future of our province. The Eastern Cape has the talent, creativity, and ambition to compete on a global scale, and initiatives like IEW 2025 demonstrate our commitment to unlocking this potential.”

Ms. Ludwe Macingwane, Head of the ELIDZ-STP and Africa Division President of the International Association of Science Parks (IASP), placed the week in an international context:

“The Eastern Cape is now visible on the global innovation map. By connecting local innovators with international best practices, mentorship, and networks, we are equipping our youth and entrepreneurs to compete globally. This week has showcased solutions that are not only relevant locally but also have the potential to scale and attract investment beyond South Africa’s borders.”

The international dimension was reinforced through collaborations with TusHoldings (China) and Technopark Ankara (Turkey), bringing global expertise, mentorship, and opportunities for cross-border technology partnerships. These relationships illustrate how local solutions are being connected to international innovation trends, positioning the Eastern Cape as an active player in the global economy.

The STP is more than infrastructure, it is a living platform for skill-building, incubation, and enterprise development, running continuous programmes in digital literacy, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, green technologies, and entrepreneurship. These initiatives ensure that innovation in the Eastern Cape is not a single event but an ongoing movement, equipping youth and entrepreneurs with the skills and resources needed to build sustainable businesses and contribute meaningfully to the economy.

The final day of IEW 2025 showcased the province’s brightest innovators, as teams pitched practical solutions with the potential to scale into fully-fledged enterprises. With over R1.5 million in innovation support, finalists received prototype development assistance, 12-month incubation placements, mentorship, and market access facilitation.

“Today, we witnessed courage, creativity, and brilliance,” said Ms Ludwe Macingwane, Head of ELIDZ-STP and Africa Division Chair of the International Association of Science Parks. “Our innovators have proven that the Eastern Cape is ready to lead with ideas, talent, and transformative capability.”

From digital platforms to advanced manufacturing solutions, the week demonstrated the province’s ability to harness talent for social and economic transformation.

Selecting winners was no easy task. The creativity and ingenuity displayed by the youth of the Eastern Cape was overwhelming, making the adjudication process both exciting and challenging. Each solution was evaluated not just for its technical merit, but for its impact, feasibility, and potential to scale, ensuring that the winning ideas can deliver real, lasting change.

As the week closes, the way forward is clear. ELIDZ-STP will continue to nurture these innovations, supporting teams through incubation, mentorship, and skills development programmes designed to transform ideas into commercially viable solutions that address unemployment, stimulate economic growth, and empower youth. The solutions presented are just the beginning of a broader strategy to harness the creativity of the Eastern Cape’s young people and translate it into measurable social and economic impact.

A heartfelt thanks goes to all the youth of the Eastern Cape for taking the opportunity, embracing the challenge, and demonstrating their incredible talent and ingenuity. Your ideas are shaping the province’s future.

IEW 2025 was made possible by the collective effort of stakeholders from government, academia, industry, and development agencies. UNDP, TIA, ECDC, Nelson Mandela University, Walter Sisulu University, University of Fort Hare, Rhodes University, UNISA, TVET Colleges, and private sector partners all contributed mentorship, funding, infrastructure, and technical expertise. Their support provided innovators with the guidance, tools, and platforms necessary to transform ideas into solutions capable of creating jobs, empowering youth, and accelerating economic growth.

The momentum of IEW 2025 is far from over. ELIDZ-STP will continue to incubate, mentor, and support winning teams, ensuring their solutions progress from prototypes to market-ready enterprises.

Plans are already underway to expand the Innovation Challenge and Hackathon to reach even more participants next year, while strengthening links with international partners such as TusHoldings (China) and Technopark Ankara (Turkey) to provide global mentorship, investment opportunities, and cross-border collaboration.

IEW 2025 is just the beginning — a springboard for lasting economic growth, youth empowerment, and a thriving culture of innovation across the Eastern Cape. As this ecosystem matures, the province will continue to turn ideas into enterprises, talent into impact, and creativity into opportunity.
