Foundation Recovery Systems, the recognized foundation repair contractor in Central Missouri, recently collected food items and donated them to the Buddy Pack Program ensuring that children in need have sufficient and healthy food for their weekends.

The Buddy Pack Program is a partnership between the elementary schools and Cherith Brook Food Pantry, a member of The Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri.

Foundation Recovery Systems collected donations for the entire month of April. Cherith Brook Food Pantry picked up the items on May 7th so they could be included in the Buddy Packs. Each child is sent home on Fridays with a back pack of food so their food needs are taken care of for the weekend.

Cherith Brook Food Pantry began in 1998 as a ministry to those in the community who need food assistance. Local schools, organizations, and businesses help Cherith Brook by hosting food drives. A team of dedicated volunteers helps to run the Pantry.

The Buddy Pack Program, organized by The Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri, is a well-coordinated service for thousands of children in the area. The Buddy Packs are backpacks filled with kid-friendly, nutritious food that students take home for the weekend or holiday times to supplement their meals since there may not be enough for them to eat well at home. After the weekend, kids return to school with their Buddy Packs to be refilled by volunteers. During the 2011-2012 school year, the program helped feed about 8,600 children each week.

The Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri’s a regional disaster and hunger relief network that acquires and distributes donated food. All of the food is distributed free of charge and goes to soup kitchens, shelters, emergency food pantries and similar types of centers. Each year they distribute more than 28 million pounds of food to 135 agencies and 138 schools throughout 32 counties.
