I think you come from an interesting perspective as that of a recent student and teacher. I do think that training is something that isn't being given enough attention and unfortunately won't be as educators often feel like they have no time. It is a shame as you need the client to be on board with the concept in order to create engaging eLearning that benefits teachers and students alike, otherwise you end up with something that is a waste of everyone's time.

I've had various experiences with "e-learning" both as a student and as a teacher of history. I think that because of my subject (rightfully regarded as one of the more traditional humanities subjects), "e-learning" was never really a top priority in facilitating learning.

As an undergraduate, my only ever encounter with any concept of "e-learning" was using WebCT to access lectures notes and assignment tasks. Whilst it was pretty useful to be able to access these electronically at any time, not all of our lecturers used WebCT so I'd say that e-learning did not really play any major part in my undergraduate studies.

As a a trainee teacher, we were given training sessions on how to use similar e-learning applications during our school placements. However, the sessions were not long or detailed enough, and we were only given training towards the end of our placement. This has more to do with the organisation and planning of resources to train tutors rather than e-learning itself. I think that if educational institutionals really wants its staff to implement e-learning in their teaching, they need to really plan ahead and devote a satisfactory amount of time to train tutors (especially give more time to some people who may not pick it up as quickly). That way, tutors wouldn't be put off by e-learning.
