As I mentioned, I went over to my Grama's house this past weekend to take some photos of the door she used to measure my cousins and I on. I really wanted to have some photos of it because I'm sure the new owners of the house won't really be into letting me come in and see it once in a while.

I loved seeing how I had grown and always got excited when enough time had passed to take a new measurement. It is really neat to look back on now too and see how short I once was!

I was always a tall kid. I feel like now I am right around the tall side of average at about 5'7" so I always say I did all of growing as a kid. When I was younger I did not like always being one of the tallest in my class and people often thought I was older than I was. I was kind of shy and I guess maybe I would have prefered to take up a little less room. Ha, I don't really know.

My Grama even made estimates of how tall she thought we would be by 16 years old. Mine was pretty close actually!

I absolutely love that my Grama did this and I fully plan on measuring our kid(s) somewhere in our house. Maybe I'll even make estimates on how tall I think they'll be, although I'm really bad at that type of thing. Ivan already thinks that the little guy I'm currently growing is going to be taller than him...and he's 6'3"! If he's right we are going to have one tall kid. We'll see!

Does anyone else have something like this that they can look back on and see how much they've grown? Are you doing it for your kids?

161/365 :: Lately I have loved adding broccoli chopped really small to our salads. It makes them extra delicious. If you like broccoli, that is.

163/365 :: Basil from the garden! I made a yummy drink with this which I will tell you about eventually.

164/365 :: Our roses look so pretty this year. Last year I think there were two flowers on the whole plant. I'm so happy that they look amazing again!

165/365 :: Andrea came over and I did some more work on my diaper bag. I didnt' end up having time to finish it on the weekend so I'm planning on spending some time on it today.

167/365 :: My mom and I went over to my Grama's house before the new owners take possession so that I could take photos of the door she used to measure my cousins and I on. When we arrived there was a guard squirrel at the back gate who seemed like he did not want us to go into the backyard! This was when he was finally taking off and letting us pass.

Like I mentioned, today I'm going to try to finish up my diaper bag (for real this time). There are also a few baby/home birth things that need to be washed so that is also on my list. But first, it's time for second breakfast and some Real Housewives of New Jersey. Wait, pretend I didn't say that, I don't watch that show. (yes I do)

Pregnancy :: 36 Weeks

I am very happy to tell you that this past week has been infinitely better than the one before. I am back to feeling generally comfortable most of the time, thank goodness! I even went for a really long walk this week because I just felt so great and wanted to keep going.

We are almost finished decorating the baby room. Just a few finishing touches here and there and then I will do a little tour. Ivan thinks I should do a video tour...do you agree? Maybe a photo and video tour?

Also this week we picked up everything that we need for the homebirth. I am glad to have everything we will need on hand now, I just need to put it all together in one spot so we're not searching for anything. I can't believe my due date is in less than a month! Holy cow I'm really excited.

Today I am hoping to finish up my diaper bag finally! Wish me luck!

Photos :: Penny Collection Part 3

As I mentioned before, I really expanded my penny collection while we were in Niagara Falls, NY. Normally I don't like to get so many pennies from one place but there were some really cool ones and I couldn't resist. The only problem is that I don't remember exactly where I got each one. That's ok though! I thought I would show you guys a couple of my favourites in case anyone is as interested in squashed souvenir pennies as I am.

In general my favourite pennies are the ones that have state flowers, insects, birds etc on them. These New York ones don't actually tell you in words what they are though. It's pretty obvious this is a rose but still, I need written confirmation on the penny please! I found the state flower and bird for New York State at penny machines in Niagara and I think they are pretty great.

I had to look up what the state bird was and in case you are interested it is the Eastern Bluebird.

This penny with the Statue of Liberty and an apple looks really neat and also made me laugh so I had to get it. We were no where near New York City so I thought it was funny that they had this penny in Niagara Falls. Silly penny machines.

I got tons more pennies but I won't bore you with all of them. My penny passport is getting pretty full and I can't wait to get more.

This was such a comfy outfit to wear! I am really excited to be able to wear this dress as a dress minus the jeans once my belly (and boobs) are back to their regular size. It will be so comfy and easy for summer, I love it!

Also, these shoes! I have been kind of obsessed with these little booties and I am so glad I got my hands on a pair. They are really comfortable and super cute. I'm tempted to pick them up in the turquoise colour as well.

Ok, one last thing. I am in love with this necklace. The Polli team was so sweet to send a little package for me to Kaylah after I left her a comment telling her how much I loved her necklace. I am so happy to have a little collection of Polli goodies and I can't wait to add to it. Their jewelry is beautiful.

Sorry, I lied. One more one last thing. I don't normally mention what nail polish I'm wearing but this one is different because: 1. It was an awesome birthday gift, 2. It was handmade and 3. Today I am feeling really off. I haven't been sleeping well at night lately and I just feel kind of nauseous this morning. I'm hoping it goes away because I want to get the baby diapers prepped today. All of his little clothes are washed and put away and I have a small list of things we still need to pick up. It's getting sooooo real!

Today I thought I would share some photos from the Aquarium of Niagara. It was a pretty small aquarium but there were a bunch of pretty fish and I also learned that there are some fish that don't have eyes (because they live in the dark and don't need them). Maybe this isn't new information to anyone else but I thought it was pretty cool!

This next photo is just so terrible I have to share it. As Kaylah mentioned, anywhere that had "photo ops" in Niagara Falls also had the worst lighting possible. Also, the penguin I was standing behind was really tall!

I hope everyone has a good Tuesday. I plan on washing some baby clothes and diapers today. We just got some bins for the bottom layers of the change table so now I feel like they need to be filled. Also, I'm exactly one month away from my due date so I better finish up these last minute things!

I am feeling much better today. A lot less uncomfortable for the most part. I got a bit sore from all the planting I did yesterday but I'm doing pretty well today other than feeling like I could go back to bed. I plan on staying awake though and getting some blog stuff ready for the week as well as working on some posts for when the baby arrives.

Pregnancy :: 35 Weeks

Well, this has certainly been an eventful week for me! As I mentioned, I ended up in the hospital with a kidney stone (which I'm 99% sure is gone unless it's playing a really evil trick on me and hiding for a couple days before popping back up to say hello). While I was there the baby got lots of checks and he is doing really well which makes me very happy.

What makes me less happy is how uncomfortable I have started feeling in the last week or so. I haven't had much to complain about this pregnancy but for the past few days this little guys butt has been way up high and hurting my ribs if I stand for more than a few minutes. Not very convenient. I'm hoping that doesn't last too much longer because it is extremely uncomfortable and I need to sit/lay down a lot more to get rid of the pain. I'm starting to see why people start to say they are ready to have their babies at around this point. Obviously I want him to stay in there as long as he needs to but I'm hoping that he doesn't need any longer than 5 more weeks! Also, I'm so excited to meet him!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! We have gloomy weather again today but I'm crossing my fingers that some sun shows up.

Hello again friends!

I thought that instead of my regular Friday post I would let you know where I've been the last couple days. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram you may already know that I ended up in the hospital with the most painful thing I have ever experienced...kidney stones.

On Tuesday evening I started getting really bad back pain that quickly escalated to unbearable pain and landed me in Labour and Delivery. My midwife was awesome and met Ivan and I there to make sure everything was ok with the baby (it was) and then stayed all the way until midnight when my results came back and I was admitted to the hospital for the night. I really can't thank her enough for hanging around.

On Wednesday I had a renal ultrasound to confirm that I had a kidney stone, as well as an NST and an ultrasound to check on the baby. Clearly the kidney stones were not bothering our little guy at all because all signs pointed to a happy baby, thank goodness!

I was sent home late Wednesday night with instructions to drink tons of water until the stone passed. I am crossing my fingers that it is out of my system because I haven't had any pain since yesterday afternoon.

Seriously guys, never get a kidney stone. I feel like I have a pretty high pain tolerance but this was just the worst thing I have ever felt in my life. A lot of people told me it is worse than labour and I am going to believe them because I don't want to worry that labour is going to hurt that much. I mean, if it does at least it won't be as constant as the kidney stone pain and at least I will get something awesome at the end instead of something that gets flushed down the toilet without me even seeing it. Haha, sorry, was that gross?

Anyways, I am back to feeling pretty normal and I hope it stays that way. I think I am going to glue a glass of water to my hand for the rest of this pregnancy so that I am constantly drinking. Good plan right?

I hope everyone had a way better week than I did and I am happy to say that I will be back to my regularly scheduled blogging.

Photo an Hour :: June 2013

I know I just did a photo an hour for May but I really wanted to capture our day our in Niagara Falls on Saturday. Here is a look at what we did, hour by hour.

7 am :: Ready to go meet our friends in Niagara Falls!!

8 am :: On the road with my sweat rag. Gross, I know. I got so hot while I was getting ready and I just couldn't cool down. I don't like being sweaty (unless I'm exercising) so I brought this towel to keep the sweat situation in check.

9 am :: I get a lot of stuff shipped to Kaylah and we hadn't seen each other in way too long so I had a lot of mail. It was like Christmas!

10 am :: We visited the Buffalo Aquarium. It was pretty small but there were some pretty fish and a bunch of rescued seals. Their stories were so, so sweet.

11 am :: We couldn't figure out what the heck you would get to see by looking through this thing. It seemed like just trees and buildings.

12 pm :: At the Falls taking my typical "I'm behind you being a creep" shot.

1 pm :: We grabbed some shaved ice but unfortunately didn't make a purchase that qualified us for a free baby.

2 pm :: We saw a brochure that Body Worlds had just started at the Buffalo Museum of Science. We had all seen it (or a version of it) before but we were excited to see it again so we headed over.

3 pm :: We spent some time checking out the rest of the museum.

4 pm :: Cool shadows!

5 pm :: After having an amazing Indian lunch earlier in the day we had the most disappointing Indian dinner ever. Bummer.

6 pm :: Kaylah had never been to a casino so we headed over so that she could lose all of her money on the slots. Well, actually just $4.80. Casinos are not the most exciting place to me because I'm too cheap to gamble and I have been known to fall asleep while waiting for other people. This visit was the perfect length though (very short!) so I managed to stay awake and have fun.

7 pm :: Back to the room for a quick swim and then out again for a quick snack trip.

8 pm :: We had planned on going back to the Falls at night but we got kind of lazy and the weather wasn't great so we stayed in and played through the entire box of Cards Against Humanity. Have you played this game? It is soooo terrible and soooo funny.

It was a fun, tiring day! I think I probably visited every single washroom in Niagara Falls at least once. I really should have taken photos of each one and done reviews to let you know which ones are best. Or maybe it's a good thing I didn't because that probably would have been weird.

147/365 :: Sometims Farva will jump up on the bed and just start being really silly. There is a little rip in the duvet cover and he likes to attack it and then run all over the bed. It is so cute!

148/365 :: This is another photo from the garden centre the day my mom and I went to stock up on plants...which I still haven't been able to plant because the garden is too wet.

149/365 :: Ooops, Farva again. He also loves to lay inside the laundry basket when it is empty.

150/365 :: A cool camera at my mom's house. Do you see me there in the middle?

151/365 :: Our chives have flowers. I wish they stayed all summer.

152/365 :: The Falls! I had never looked at Niagara Falls from the American side before. You get a better view from the Canadian side (I think anyways) but you can get really up close and personal with them from the American side.

153/365 :: Kaylah and I spotted this squirrel friend eating a muffin wrapper while the boys were inside waiting for our food. He was the cutest little guy!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. We had so much fun in Niagara Falls with Kaylah and Kevin...then we came home and instantly fell asleep. Being a tourist is tiring! I got tons of photos so I am off to look through/organize them.

The major change this week is my constant urge to pee! I didn't have this problem at all in the first trimester but I definitely have it now. It is kind of annoying but a good sign that I am getting closer to meeting this baby. I have been getting some under rib pain as well but I can usually manage that by not leaning forward when I'm sitting...like I'm doing right now...ouch. I should really be sitting at a desk, not on the couch while typing on the computer.

Other than that I have been feeling generally good still! I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Photo an Hour :: May 2013

The other day I decided to take a photo an hour because I knew I would be getting out of the house at least a little bit and those days are always slightly more interesting. Here is my day in photos.

8 am :: Blogging and kitties.

9 am :: Just taking some time to look out the front window and spy on my neighbours. Ha! No not really. I was just checking out how our tree in the front is growing. That thing grows fast.

10 am :: We have a bunch of plants in the baby room now. My goal is to keep them alive at least until our little guy gets here. They are all pretty low maintenance so I think I can handle it.

11 am :: My mom and I hit up the first garden centre on our list to get me some veggies.

12 pm :: Our next stop. This place had so many different lettuces!

Oh, just a bonus 12 pm photo because when someone has the Undertaker on their car you can't not take a photo. He was painted on the side too!

1 pm :: Some peonies at my mom's house that are thinking of blooming.

2 pm :: We ate some delicious Indian food for lunch.

3 pm :: Kaylah reminded me about gradient nails so of course I had to give them another go.

4 pm :: Doing a bit of light reading. I like getting those small, free magazines.

5 pm :: Kitty dinner time! They never let me forget to feed them.

6 pm :: I hung up part of my birthday gift from my best friend! So, so amazing.

7 pm :: We are still making our way through the new episodes of Arrested Development. We have been so crazy busy since it came out that we have only been able to watch a few at a time. I could watch them by myself during the day but I really want to watch them with Ivan.

There was my day! Somehow I managed to pick the darkest, gloomiest day of the week to take my photos and the inside of the house was almost night-time dark. I was worried about getting good photos but everything worked out just fine!

Now I'm off to do some prenatal yoga and hopefully get rid of the terrible rib pain I'm currently experiencing. This baby's bony butt is all crammed up there and sitting the way I am is not helping. Have a great Thursday!

I love, love, love this shirt but I have to tell you something funny about it. It is not at all stretchy and it doesn't fit over my big belly! No problem, that's what wearing your skirt up high is for.

I really stepped out of my comfort zone and took some photos in front of our house in the morning. Nobody was outside in our court but I kept picturing people peeking out their windows and giggling at me. It was just so nice out and the lighting looked like it would be great so I couldn't resist snapping these photos in the front yard.

Today is rainy but I think I will be heading out with my mom for a bit to pick up some veggies to plant in our back garden. We need to get some food in the ground so that we can have yummy things to eat soon.

This week I had a growth ultrasound to check on how big our baby is and I'm happy to report that the ultrasound tech told me he is right on track. I will find out more at my midwife appointment tomorrow but I'm glad that I don't have a super huge baby in there already. He is definitely taking up a lot of space though and I can feel him up much higher this week that I have in the past. I am also so happy to report that he is currently head down and I'm crossing my fingers that he stays that way! I just can't wait to meet him!!

Ok, that's all of the baby reporting that I have for today. I'm off to enjoy my birthday (it's a big one...30!!), watch some more Arrested Development and maybe go get myself a frozen banana.

In case you didn't notice, I went with a bit of an Arrested Development theme this week. I am so, so, so unreasonably excited for the new season that is coming out on Netflix on my birthday! What a lovely present!

Today I have an ultrasound to check on how big this little (or not so little) baby is getting. I am measuring a bit ahead and they just want to check it out. Maybe our July baby will be ready to come out a little early. We better hurry up and decide on a name.

Home :: Front Yard

Last year I spent hours out in the front garden pulling up everything that was overgrown and crazy. We planted a few things and it looked much better but there was still a ton of room for improvement. This year my mom came over and helped us make the garden look much better once again. I think it will be a few years before it looks exactly the way we would like it to but every year it gets better and better. Here are a few looks at what's going on in the front of our house.

I am so in love with these pretty lilacs! My mom found a good deal at one of the garden centres and picked these up for us. I think they look so neat with the white around the edges. I am kind of obsessed with lilacs.

Oh yeah, and Farva was yelling at me while I was taking these photos. He really wanted to come out.

Please excuse our super old, dirty windows. They need to be replaced sometime soon.

Today I get to spend some time with Andrea and I am very excited to see her and get out of the house for the day. I'm off to make myself look presentable! Have a great Thursday!

Wow. It's been quite a long time since I have done an outfit post. It's mostly because I am running out of things to wear! This outfit has seen quite a lot of action in the past few weeks. Short dresses are my new long shirts. We have been having some really beautiful, warm weather lately so I don't think jeans will be an option for much longer. Already it is a stretch most days!

I am really happy with my slightly shorter hair. I gave myself a haircut a little while ago and I can easily get away with letting my hair air dry and just do it's thing. It was getting too long and stringy and it was too difficult to style without using heat. So much better now!

I hope everyone has a great Wednesday. This week is flying by because of the long weekend, I can't believe it is Wednesday already!

Projects :: Mario Mushroom Crochet Blanket/Rug

I am so excited to share this finished project with you guys! A few years ago Becky posted about a pixelated Mario mushroom blanket and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Fast forward to our friends having a baby in January and decorating his room Super Mario style. Then fast forward about 5 months later when I finally finished this gift for them.

I am so happy with the way this blanket/floor covering turned out. I say blanket/floor covering because really, you can use it as either. I found the pattern over here on Pixelated Mushroom. I used my own granny square pattern but used the provided grid to know how many of each colour to make and the pattern to attach them in.

This crochet Mario mushroom is one of my favourite things that I've made! It took quite a long time but it was totally worth it.

We have had a great weekend over here. We saw friends, make tons of progress on the baby room, my mom came over and helped with our front garden and the fun continues today because it is a long weekend over here in Canada. I'm off to tidy up and get some food started because our friends are coming over for brunch!

Pregnancy :: 32 Weeks

32 weeks 1 day in photo

Time is really starting to fly by as I get closer to the end of my pregnancy. I can't believe that my due date is in less than 2 months. I am getting even more excited than I already was.

This past week Ivan and I worked on the baby room some more and put up mirrors, assembled the change table, found curtains and decided on the layout of the room. It is looking really awesome so far, we both love the room so much! I will share photos once it is completely finished, which should be within the next few weeks.

I don't have too much else to say this week, other than that I have started wearing some of my shorter dresses as shirts with jeans underneath. Most of my dresses that are stretchy in the boob area are on the shorter side so they need something underneath them now that my belly is taking up more room. It's working for now!
