I looked into the mirror. I was shockingly white. The skin around my eyes was black as the night sky and the whites of my eyes were as red as fire. For the first time, I saw what I had become. I was a down and out drunk. Broke, scared and lonely – this was how I was going to die. I was convinced this was the day it would all come to an end.
After what seemed like an hour at the sink I started to feel my heart slow down. Most of the time, the only way to slow down my heart after a night out was to have a drink, but this time as I stood there I slowly started to feel a little better. I couldn’t stop looking at myself in the mirror. Who was I looking at?

This is the favourite and most special song of all of Solomon’s songs. Holy Spirit chose this to speak not only of Jesus Christ and the nation of Israel, Jesus Christ and His Church, but also Jesus and the believer. Some people look at it just about a book about marriage, and you can gain insight from that, but Holy Spirit uses this poetic picture language to show, for those who’s hearts are open, a higher Christian walk of intimacy and fruitfulness. People like Hudson Taylor years ago of the China inland mission, understood the importance of this book.     One day, the Lord spoke out loud to me, “How do you rule the world?” My answer came from the book of Philippians, involved Alexander the Great of the Greek era and gave understanding to what it is to be an “Embassy of Heaven”. This revelation changed our church!!
