Ironically, what was planned to be a primarily outdoor retreat was curtailed by record-breaking rainstorms and flooding throughout the Coachella Valley. The multitude of hikes, a partial visit to Joshua Tree, and the Integratron Sound Bath were all canceled due to weather. I transferred everything else indoors including the Terrarium Making Workshop and our Meditation and Mindfulness Session and encouraged people to enjoy the warmth of the private hot spring baths or Thai bodywork massage. Workshop style Pilates and Yoga classes of 2 hours each allowed for all levels to work at their own pace while sharing common ground and insight. We also still had the Modernism House Tour, Palm Springs Art Museum, and multiple meals to keep us busy…and—surprisingly—some shopping!

Through the unexpected rain and the changed plans, this gathering surpassed my expectations. Over the span of just a few short days, their personalities were exposed and relationships deepened; these women had created a fabric of support and growth. This was the most satisfying thing for me from the whole trip, because I had had a hand in creating a richer, more meaningful experience for this group by bringing them together in the first place. I think if the weather had been ideal as we had anticipated, there would have been more natural separations taking place and some people wouldn’t cross paths. I was grateful for the opportunity to create a more centered, focused group.
