I want to go somewhere beyond the state lines and buy a tacky embroidered shirt that I buy in a total tourist trap shop. Last year at this time I was in the process of planning our weekend roadtrip to Chicago with my sister and sister-in-law. At that time we had thought we would try to go on a mini-roadtrip every spring break, but due to some unforeseen

(Sad face.)This means that my wanderlust is kicking into high gear without any relief in sight. To attempt to appease my poor wanderlust (even if only virtually) I created a new board on Pinterest that I titled “Oh my wanderlust…” and what it consists of are images that I find of places I would like to travel to someday. (And hope that they all have cheesy shops with awesome custom embroidered apparel.) Some of the locations I know I will likely never get to (specifically anything that is overseas), but I would like to at least travel to the locations that are located in the United States and Canada eventually. At least they are within reasonable reach. I love to go on roadtrips and see the countryside and I am hoping that as the kids continue to get older (and eventually move out) my husband and I will have more opportunities for travelling.

noticed through the crack in my custom embroidered fleece curtains that it appeared to be extremely pinkish outside. I took a peek and saw one of the most spectacular sunsets I have ever seen. I knew that I immediately needed a camera in hand to photograph that bad boy. And it turned out that it really was amazing. But I have to say, this particular sky made a good argument for me to invest in a smartphone with a good camera, though. In the couple of minutes it took me to go back upstairs, through on my embroidered team jacket, grab my camera, adjust my settings, and hurry outside, the sky had already lost some of the awesome highlights on the clouds. If I’d had a decent camera phone, I could have simply put on my custom jacket and gone straight outside and captured the whole thing. I guess that is something for me to consider in the future. The distant future because the last thing I need is to have the internet at my fingertips no matter where I go. It’s bad enough for me to have a laptop.

have never gotten around to it. Part of the reason (aside from simply not wanting to take the time involved) is that then you should have duplicate copies made and stored elsewhere. What a pain! So I had a brilliant idea (and I’m sure I’m the ONLY person who has EVER had this idea – please note sarcasm). I am going to take photographs of our stuff, sure, but instead of printing all the photographs or storing them on a flash drive that can be destroyed, I’m going to store them online in a web album. I will have the privacy setting as such that only I can see them until and unless I ever needed my insurance company to have access to them. I will also then provide the necessary description and/or pertinent information in the caption. Of course now I just have to get that done, but I have actually already started. When I was thoroughly cleaning my library recently, I photographed all of my books (since I didn’t have to make the photos look fancy or multi-dimensional with different perspectives I was able to do it quickly and efficiently). I have yet to upload them, but at least I’ve got a start. Plus I used my noodle for a change and photographed them in a smaller size so I can upload right to the web album I create rather than having to resize first. My books are very important to me (almost as important as the personalized embroidery kit my grandma made for me for my eighteenth birthday). Although I don’t have books that are of great monetary value by themselves, the cost to replace all of my books would be pretty hefty, so it’s important to me to get on record just what I have.

Vindication! I am not losing my mind! (Well, in this particular regard anyway.) I just read some information that explains that it is psychologically impossible to multi-task (unless it’s something physical you’ve done over and over like walking and talking). I’ve been saying for years that I absolutely cannot multi-task anymore. Heck, I can’t even think of groceries I need to get at the store while putting on my favorite custom embroidered sweatshirt without forgetting the groceries I just thought of. I used to think I did a pretty good job at it when I was younger, but since getting married and having kids all mental capability has gone down the drain. So now, not only have I felt like a failure at multi-tasking, I am also the kind of person that wants to finish one thing before moving on to the next so I have a tendency to get crabby if interrupted. An example of this is the fact that I never have finished putting the custom applique on my son’s baseball cap from last year because it takes too long and I am constantly being interrupted by someone. And because of these things, I thought I was losing my mind. Turns out I don’t have to head to the funny farm just yet, I actually CAN’T multi-task. It’s impossible! Phew, I feel so much better now!

Laughing is good for your health. I equate it to wrapping up in an embroidered quilt and snuggling up all nice and cozy. I recently read an article that said that we rarely laugh when we are alone and that we laugh thirty times more often when we are with others. I beg to differ (for myself at least). I laugh when I am alone ALL. THE. TIME. I laugh plenty when I’m with other people, too, but I definitely wouldn’t categorize the laughing I do by myself as rarely. I’m a goofball. And I’m a klutz. So because of these things, I may as well laugh at myself. Besides, I actually do find myself funny. Sometimes I think I’m the only one that finds myself funny. But I’m okay with that. Like when I tried my hand at doing an embroidered monogram on my daughter’s sweatshirt. It didn’t turn out so well for the shirt. I thought it was hilarious, but my family just thought I was a dork. I laugh all the time when I reading a book or watching a movie or TV show by myself. I talk to myself all the time and quite often I’m being silly while doing it so I laugh at myself. (I think I may have revealed just how strange I am right there…) It puts me in a good mood when I can laugh to myself at the things I say (to myself) because there’s not always someone else around that thinks I’m funny. At least this way I am still getting the benefits of laughter (and that warm, fuzzy blanket feeling) without having to rely on someone else to provide it for me.

I seem to have had a rather bad day today. Earlier, I had the following thought, which I posted on Facebook: “Would whoever spiked my water with klutz extract please come to my house and clean up the flour I just spilled all over my kitchen floor?” I should also have asked them to shake the flour off of my embroidered shirt as well because I managed to get it all over me, too. One of my friends responded with: “Just got done cleaning a broken raw egg off my kitchen floor. Good times!” At least her issue was only on the floor. I know from experience that cleaning raw egg off of an embroidered baseball cap is also no fun. Don’t ask. I don’t know if there has been something in the water or if I’m just a big dork, but my next response went like this: “Ooh fun! Last week I actually broke the fridge door shelf when I dropped the ketchup bottle on it. Needless to say the shelf is now duct taped and I had to clean up a broken (glass!) bottle of cheese dip off the floor. I should be put away. I am obviously a danger to myself and condiments.” At least I can laugh about it. Now. Until the next time I spill something all over my favorite custom embroidered college sweatshirt and manage to ruin it. Then it might not be so funny.

Yesterday evening, I had just sat down in my library to work when I heard a noise. It was coming from the corner of my closet where I keep an empty dresser that I use to hide Christmas presents in (since it locks). I could tell the noise wasn’t in the WALL but was in my LIBRARY. I moved in closer so I could hear better and the noise stopped. I opened up the empty dresser drawer and that’s when I found evidence of a mouse. I knew that had been the noise I heard. Now I just had to figure out where it was. I prayed it wasn’t hiding in my stack of embroidered shirts. I kept looking and moved some things off the top of the dresser and that’s when the little creep ran. It ran to a corner where I couldn’t get to it, so I went downstairs and got a trap set with peanut butter. When I got back up to my library, I moved a couple more things to have a place to set the trap when the little creep ran again. This time it ran into my bedroom! I placed the trap near where the mouse had last been seen, but where it would be out of the way of anyone walking through. I then turned off the bedroom light, went back into my library to work, and waited. Not too long later I heard the telltale SNAP! The little creeper had taken the bait and was now ready to be disposed of. I was so grateful because at least now I didn’t have to worry about it getting into my clothes and besides I don’t think I could have slept under my embroidered quilt in my room that night! I would have been too creeped out thinking the little butthead was running around all around me.

I am such a dunce. I’ve been spending a lot of time in my library lately and I will frequently watch movies on my laptop or listen to music while reading or working. If I wear headphones, the sound is great from my laptop, but headphones hurt my ears after a while not to mention the fact that it’s not good for your hearing to wear headphones too much, and the speakers on my laptop are not that great. I don’t wear earbuds because I can’t stand them and they don’t stay in my ears well unless I have a hat to wear over them and I sure am not going to go around my house wearing a stocking cap. I have a CD player with some decent speakers so if I want to listen to CDs that works great, but most of the time I listen to my mp3 player or music I’ve downloaded. So again we run into the laptop speaker issue and the headphone issue. I also have some cheap, portable external speakers that I can plug my mp3 player into, but again the sound’s not that great. The reason I’m such a dunce is that I forgot that my CD player has an auxiliary jack on the front and even came with a cord so I can plug my mp3 player into the CD player for better sound. Then it dawned on me that I can plug in my laptop the same way so whether I’m listening to music or watching something, I can now have good quality multi-dimensional sound (I have one speaker placed in front of me and one placed behind me). Der! Why didn’t I think of that before? I also don’t have a lot of room for little things on my shelves. Then I finally remembered that I have pockets on the side of my chair that I can put stuff in. So now my library is new and improved. (I used to think I was observant. Now I’m not so sure. I probably wouldn’t even notice a custom embroidered shirt if it hit me smack in the face at this point.)

I’ve been putting together my book collection for over fifteen years now. I’ve got quite a few collected now and it’s been many, many years since I’ve read some of my favorites. I’ve read almost every book in my collection, but many I’ve only read once. So as a result of all this, I’ve been thinking lately that I should get myself a really comfy fleece sweatshirt or a nice warm fleece blanket to curl up in and dig into rereading every book in my library. What I like, I’ll keep, and what I don’t like maybe as well as I once did, sell or donate. But then I did the math. If I gave myself an average of one week to read each book (Very few of them would take me that long unless I was particularly busy. Oh wait. I have kids. Nevermind.) it would take me about EIGHT YEARS to read them all. I would probably have to get a second custom embroidered blanket for all those winters because I would likely wear out the first if it took me that long! That seems crazy, so then I did some more math. If I averaged only three days per book (this is actually reasonable for most of the books I have) it would still take me a minimum of about THREE AND A HALF YEARS! Holy cow! I have only one thing to say to all this, though. Challenge accepted.

Recently on Christmas Eve, I was sitting in my library, wearing my favorite custom embroidered sweatshirt, drinking my favorite tea and feeling rather reflective. As a result, I wrote this post for my Facebook friends:

Peace in your heart and in your soul is not always easy to come by. But tonight, on this very special night, that is my wish for you.

That no matter where you are, whether you are with your loved ones or far from them, that you have peace, if only for this one night.

Whether you are spending tonight surrounded by others celebrating or spending it alone, that you have peace, if only for this one night.

That no matter what may be happening in your life, that you have peace, if only for this one night.

I haven’t had a lot of peace in my life over the last couple of months, but somehow have found it again, if only for this one night.

So that is my hope, my Christmas wish for all of you, that you too find fulfillment and peace, if only for this one night…
