EC in "Forum ONLY" mode until further notice.

at the moment the forums are working at user level, there's a few things missing and not working at moderation level and administration level but they are at this point just ghost links to modifications i've not yet reinstalled. as far as any standard user is concerned the forums should be working properly. the current look of the forums will be the starting point for the new look of the site, i'll EC them up a bit over the next few days and weeks to make the site look and feel more unique to EC.

The main site will remain offline while i rethink the direction EC is going, emeraldcircus.com and all related domains and subdomains now point directly to these forums.

Family and friends have questioned my passion and dedication to EC many times over the years, they cant understand why i put so much time, effort and money into a project that is a black hole for all 3 and gives little back. the amount of work involved in getting everything working again has made me ask the same questions, why am i putting so much into this? dedicating my free time to a project that results in stress, sleepless nights, empty wallet and overall poor health both physically and mentally. And for possibly the first time i've been honest with myself, i'm getting nothing positive out of EC any more, it has gone from a passion and something i love, to a labour of love, to a job, a job i dont get paid for, one that's on my mind 24/7 and has become mostly ideas and plans for a future i cant create alone. EmeraldCircus.com has become like a puppy, everyone loves it and wants to play with it, but it's the owner that has to keep it fed and clean up all the messes it makes and look after it.

I've tried on a number of occasions to get some form of team working with the site, get a few people involved in offline projects and generally bring EC forward and expand it as a team, but all have failed to generate the interest required to make EC workable, expandable and more then just some website jugglers go to.

it is very depressing and disheartening to see a project i've invested so much into, that has so much potential and should be the central hub for so many projects be reduced to a mere forum, ironically a simple forum is all mark ever wanted, but from the start i seen potential for a lot more and put everything i had into making it all happen, but everything i have is no longer enough.

as we approach the 5th birthday of the site, it sucks to see that very little other then the forums will be around to celebrate it. i will over time start up some things again if i find ways to make them either workable single handedly or get help with them, but for now with the exception of the forums the entire EmeraldCircus.com project is on hold while i take a break for the first time in years, the fact that the entire site suffers because i need a break is a good example of what it was taking to keep things going on my own.

I'll still be around, i'll make it to juggling, i'll tend to some stuff on the forums, but for at least the next few weeks i will not be doing anything else related to or on behalf of EC.

I want to thank everyone for their support over the years, richard especially, apart from myself he seems to be one of the few who seen the future EC could and should have headed to, he has supported the site 100% from the day he heard about it just weeks after opening his shop, he has helped out where he can, funded a few projects and promoted the site at times better then i have. I also want to thank everyone who has donated money towards the hosting, bought badges and hoodies and spread the word.

and lastly but by no means least i wanna thank mark, he introduced me to the community and the world of juggling, we started the site together split a few of the bills and he's been keeping an eye on things here on the forums and most importantly put me in touch with some of the most amazing people i've ever met that i'm proud to call friends.

anyway, it's time i took that break, it's the end of an era, and a very sad day for me... maybe some day we'll make EC what it should be, "We" can do it, "I" can not, if you want to see EC become more then a forum again then we can look at it together and work on it together, i can no longer do it alone.

this is not goodbye, it's "i'll be back soon"

It's time for another Renegade show, so get your props ready for a great evening of fun, cool tricks and lots of cheering.

We'll be open from 6.30 for people to come after work. The show will start at about 9 and before it we'll have games and a place to hang out. And also, food will be available for donations from about 7- come hungry as it's gonna be delicious!!

If anyone would like to volunteer for a short time on the night to help with the running of the event, please let us know as we'd be really grateful for the extra hands!

i'll look into changing the page to something more under construction like, but still have no main site to add yet, also on saturday i was asked by someone why the forums looked different so the message is important as not everyone is on here every day (and shame on them )

i've decided to use the downtime to redesign EC, the current look of the forums is temporary, gonna settle on something a bit greener to go with the site name. there's not a lot i can really get help with, most of it is trying to remember all the shit i installed over the years, thankfully wordpress seen the the plugins directory was empty and disabled all the plugins that it had expected to find, it's a very nice feature, phpbb on the other hand will do anything from throw up and error to crap on itself and die if as much of a line of code it's looking for is not found, tempermental is not the word i cant even get help with the new design i hope to impliment because i have it in my head and i dont know how to discribe it to anyone it will be nice to have a new site for the 5th anniversay/birthday of the sites launch, the downtime that was forced on me has come in handy for this as i would have needed to take the site offline to make changes i want to make anyway.

Hey Merlin,

We all appreciate the huge effort you have put into this alright.

If you need any help on it i could lend a hand . . . maybe even two (But there's no guarantee, lefty and righty haven't been getting on recently).

Just one suggestion as Cecily mentioned would be to make the 'EMERALDCIRCUS.COM HAS BEEN HACKED" to a less prominent position on the page and change the intro text of the homepage. I'm sure that just about everyone in this community is aware that the site has been hacked.

Again i'm offering my services if i can be of any help.

I am having to recreate almost 5 years worth of work to the site so we dont lose data when the new files are connected to the old database, i am only one guy and this takes time to do. there currently is no site to replace the warning with, at the moment we need to be thankful that the forums are useable, they are a long way from perfect. as hugh mentioned all files from previous site were screwed, the backups were also screwed because they are auto backups and the screwed site got backed up before i spotted the problem.

this is a long tedious and annoying process for me, and i have twice contemplated just leaving the site down, there's nothing like being kicked back to the start and having to do it all again to make you realise how much you are doing and how little you get from it. EC is more useful to other people then it is to me, it gets more of my time then a full time job would and i get no pay or reward for running it... i'm working on it but it'll be fixed when it's fixed...

As much as I understand the importance of letting all the members know that EC has been hacked, I would personally thing that keeping this "danger" mode of EC running for an extended amount may potentially damage the credibility of the site with professional company's looking to employ Circus performers, and also of course members.
Would there be anything positive to be said to returning the home page to semi normal and perhaps including a smaller "hacked notice"
While I appreciate that you are trying to reformat the whole system ect, (and i personally have no idea how long this takes). I would feel that returning the site to a semi normal state might help rebuild confidence and not damage the sites reputation with these potential employers.
I do however enjoy the crisper white and clutter free appearance of EC in it current state.

Imbolc greetings to you all!

Despite the cold, tomorrow marks the onset of Spring - a time of growth and a return of warmth! Hurrah!

By some fortuitous circumstance - I've just been offered the chance to bottle feed a baby lamb next week! Hurrah, after the horrendous day I've had, it's really exciting news... I wonder if Will would mind a little lamb running about the garden for a couple of weeks??

And... by the time of the next big transition (Beltaine, May 1), we'll be married. The married bit is great, the organising bit... well, we'll get there

In the meantime, please come celebrate Imbolc tonight at our fire gathering in T13 - from 8-10pm.

Please bring fuel, warm clothes, good music and a flask of warm tea...

Also, Will is going to be 30 on Saturday (aww, bless... I remember that!) We're having a wee party in the Roost, belfast on Friday night, upstairs, at 8pm. Hope to see you then!

A one week introductory course in
‘Theatre of Clown’

Dates: February 7th – 11th (Tuesday through Saturday) 2012

Raymond is a founding member of Barabbas and has over twenty-five years experience as clown performer, teacher, director and maker of clown theatre.

The course will focus on unearthing each participant’s individual clown.

The goal is to gain understanding and practice of the clown state and learn what it is to be 'authentically present'.

The course is suitable for performers with some professional experience.

‘I a clown 2’

Open only to participants who have completed ‘I a clown’ introductory course.

Dates: February 14th – 18th (Tuesday through Saturday) 2012
Time: 9.30 AM – 4PM
Venue: Dance House Foley Street Dublin
Cost €175.00

This course will focus on the clown duo. Drawing on the traditional archetype clown pairing of ‘Joey and Auguste’, ultimate manipulator and victim, but working with them through a modern sensibility.

In ‘I a clown’ we work with what it is for each individual clown to be present with his or her audience. Here in ‘I a clown 2’ we work in pairs, developing sensitivity, complicity, anarchy and playfulness.

Not for the faint hearted where dysfunction is the order of the day.

Cost reduction for participation in both courses @ €300

so did ya miss us? personally i found the taking down of wikipedia to be the best thing that happened yesterday, not only did it spread the word even wider but for those of us that knew what was going on, it gave us a whole day of entertainment watching people so stupid wikipedia is literally doing their work for them panicing! i wonder how many teachers and bosses received no work from students/employees who used the lack of wikipedia as their excuse?

unfortunately sopa was never shelved, it was just put back to feb, however after yesterday it's looking unlikely that it will go through, pipa on the other hand still has a chance of getting through.

but wait there's more, we all know how greedy irish politicians are and how they'll do ANYTHING to keep companies happy, well ireland is getting it'sown sopa/pipa style law soon. now while ours wont break the internet it will bring in censorship laws that can easily be abused... our freedom to browse the internet as we want is coming to an end...

The shows are mailny effected by the seasons, theres only so long one can intermitantly perform well when its chilly and breezy.
If the temperatures pick up and the sun decides to show its face il organise one.
Meanwhile theres nothing stopping you from writing your own 30 seccond rutiene and practicing it to perfection.

EDIT- dont forget to include silly faces in your rutiene!

Class Description: Learn and build on the fundamentals of hoop dance, while getting a great workout to boot! In this series, we'll work on and develop the basic "vocabulary" of hooping, and explore how to apply it in practice. Through a mix of fun activities and challenges, we'll keep your heart rate up and body moving as you learn a variety of skills, tricks and combos. We'll also focus on core hoop dance principles and concepts, including the basic mechanics of movement while hooping, so you can continue to improve and expand on what you know.

This series is geared towards beginner- through intermediate- level hoopers, but even more experienced hoopers will find revisiting basics beneficial, and some content will be brand new to them, too!

Among some of the skills covered/introduced:

And SOPA is down, at least for now. The largely similar Protect IP on the other hand is going for a vote in the American Senate one week from now. (having no understanding of American law, I have no idea whether it has to do more than pass the senate or not)

Hey hey,

thanks for the ideas and I've tried a few with poi. I find that I get a better flow to music that has no lyrics to it. So classical and dubstep is brilliant for me. No idea why but I just thought I'd share also you can find tracks that go on for a bit longer which is good for building up strength for routines me thinks

for fear of this thread becoming a running list of numbers, I thought I'd add some text... I've been stretchging my endurance over the holidays and can comfortably get each foot onto the top of my head, altho not at the same time... i can also get both knees on the floor while in the butterfly and my splits are gettring more and more splitty! Did a 70sec headstand the other day too. I feel that overall my flexibility and muscle tone have increased, and I'm looking forward to increasing it further! oh also i got 19 catches 5 ball.

On the 18th of January 2012 EmeraldCircus.com will join many other websites including Mozilla, Reddit, Minecraft, Twitpic and many many others and will be offline for the day as part of a web strike in protest of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act).

But wait i hear you say? EC is irish and has no links or copyrighted material on it, and aren't you against protest related stuff on the site?

true on all counts, EC currently has no links to copyrighted material, but a spam bot could easily put some on here, all it takes is for that post to be on the forum at a time a SOPA bot scans the site and EC is flagged for removal/blocking/whatever. there are no warnings, no requests to remove content, EC will cease to exist... also EC may be irish, but is hosted in the US, in a data centre beside LAX Ariport to be exact... and on the other point, SOPA directly effects EC, so it is EC itself that is protesting and raising awareness of SOPA... even sites like facebook are effected by SOPA... by taking sites offline we give people a taste of the chaos that will happen if SOPA is made law...

Flow is a beautiful thing when you achieve it in whatever you're doing. . . i've found it in drawing lately.

When juggling, there are only a few times where you can really get into it and music is a big help there. . . from experience though, in juglging it doesn't last terribly long as dropping always knocks you aback out of it. . . i'll try it with the blindfold on but i don't think that will help

It would be good to try it with dancing though . . .
