Why I set up Emergency Dentist Appointments website

My name is Dr Rob Endicott BDS and I am a dentist in the UK with a special interest in Sedation and Dental phobias. I am also an Internet technophile and one of my passions is creating interactive useful websites.

2 years ago I was on holiday with my family in Cyprus when I developed toothache. The pain started slowly but I knew what was coming. I knew it was going to blow up.

I had a great app on my iPhone called "Around Me". I typed in "Dentist" and it knew where I was and gave me the nearest dentists, their location and details.

I phoned the practice down the road, found they spoken English and got an appointment for the next day. Great relief was felt! My toothache started to become more manageable as I knew I only had 24 hours to wait.

But I've also been in the situation before when I've had terrible toothache. The kind of pain that's makes you very irritable, unable to move your head, lie down, talk, eat, smile - it's really unpleasant for the patient and those around them.

Patients often report that's its the worst pain anyone could have.

When you are in pain and you've got to get on the phone, find a dentist if you dont already have one, speak politely to a receptionist, try to get the point across that you are in agony and need to be seen "right now", its hassle, you are already hurting and irritable, it doesn't help.

If you decide to go down the Internet route because you really don't want to go through the hassle of phoning and you want to research the practice a bit as well, traditionally you "Google" dentists in the area, go onto the website, decide if you like them and then email them. They don't get back to you right away, you are still in dental "limbo", so you try another practice and go round in circles.

Coupled with this problem for patients is the problem for dentists. Many practices want new patients and they want to help people in real trouble. The practice may have available time slots in their diary, especially an associates diary, they may set aside times in the days for emergencies and they know if they can sort someone's pain quickly, they are going to be heros.

It's very difficult for practices to make this known to patients.

After my holiday I thought, wouldn't it be great to have website where I could say, I have tooth pain, I need help, who can help and when?

So we built an online listing directory that is totally free to join for all dental practices. That way it doesn't compete with the other excellent new patient generation sites and paid listings. It also means that dentists don't have to worry about about how much it costs to generate a "lead".

There are two levels of interaction dental practices can have with the site.

The passive option is the easiest, the practice just uploads their details including their web address and maybe some photos. There is box for potential patients to email the practice without giving away the practice email address.

The second Active option is more involved, reaps more but is still totally free.

The practice can upload an available time slot, which dentist will be treating and how much it will cost the patient.

This can be done weeks in advance which is perfect if your reception team want to block out times in your diary for new patient generation.

Or it can be done the day before if a last minute cancellation has appeared.

If you need to use that slot for your own patients, you just delete it from the site.

The patient pays our site a booking fee which is deducted from the fee you post. The patient pays you the remainder on the day.

That way you never have any bills from us.

Most practices start with a simple listing that just takes a minute, they then build that listing to add more detail and eventually start posting appointments.

The practice will always get a free link to their own site, this inbound link is very search engine friendly so the more our site grows, the more people click through to your practice website, the more the search engines will like you because they know that you are a quality relevant website matching the users needs. That's great for you and great for us.

Ive just completed a fantastic project called EmergencyDentistAppointments.co.uk. This emergency dentist website allows patients who have a dental emergency to find dentists who can help and book online directly with them. We have emergency dentists all over the country, including emergency dentist in brighton, emergency dentist in south london and many more in England, Wales and Scotland.
