Design Icons Amsterdam, February 11-12, 2012

Design Icons is the name for a new Amsterdam initiative in vintage. 63 Dealers in vintage furniture participate and will display their treasures in a former shipyard.  This industrial location is the perfect backdrop for the display of fifties design and more. Design Icons Amsterdam will take place this Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully by that time the ice conditions will be good so you can enjoy Amsterdam’s characteristic feature of people skating on the canals. Design Icons specs

Shanghai based expatriates Sandra, a former Australian Vogue editor, and Laetitia, a former French lawyer, have magic in their hands. Since the 2006 opening of their first shop in Shanghai French Concession the interests in their retail formula are rising. At this moment Sandra and Laetitia run 2 stores in the French Concession and expand their collection in European en local labels.

East meets west vice versa

Platane is a lifestyle shop where the ancient exchange of the Chinese and the Western culture has been made visible. Platane offers an interesting collection in ceramics, pottery, wallpapers, glassware, lighting and more for both her expat target group and the rising interest by the locals.

Old & new labels

Old French labels like La Rochère, Vivaraise and Charvais are present. This in combination with the work of local craftsman, young design talent and internationally renowned designers like Paola Navone, Nelson Sepulveda for Ay Illuminate, and Rosaria Rattin for KOSE make Platane a true match with the design legacy of the French Concession.

After some desktop research I can conclude that Diane Bergeron, the Sydney based Interior Designer, is a fan of grass cloth papered walls.  Have a look at these 2 rooms that she decorated in grass cloth paper.
