The "Spectrum" screen saver from Mac OS X is alternated by the use of five Quicktime video players which also reproduce the own screen saver in different times and sizes, following a decreasing and centered composition.

This piece has been animated using Photoshop which lets the user to pass to the next file opened through crtl + tab. For the expansion movement from the torus to the big square and vice-versa I used the Spaces feature, cmd + F3.

NOVA Festival

NOVA Festival, here we go!!

After create the visual line campaign for the own festival in collaboration with Koen Delaere, see the video for here. I'm showing part of my work at Auditório MIS. On April 12th I'm going to present a one hour documentation movie which feature a big part of my pieces made in collaboration with Mac OS X.

On the other hand on April 27th I will attend the festival IRL to exhibit more of my work at the closing party at Auditorio MIS!!

Twist Choreography

I have realized that TextEdit can arrange the files automatically by name on the dock if they all are minimized at the same time. If the dock is on the bottom the OS arranges the files from left to right, if the dock is on the left or right it does from the top to bottom. So I put the dock on the right, and placed the thin windows in the opposite order than the docks does. Creating a sensual choreographed twist of windows.

SPEED SHOW - APRIL

In April I have been invited to be part of two SPEED SHOWS which present different goals. In the first one (5 April in Penn State Altoona, US) called SPEED SHOW: extracredit curated by A Bill Miller, the participants who regularly create Internet-based art were given to create a web-based response to the following question: What is "Internet"? The responses and submissions made up this show. Check out all the documentation and works done here.

The second one (12 April in Galway, Ireland) called SPEED SHOW: GIFS 4 LIFE and curated by Nora O Murchú, examines the different aesthetic representations of the GIF format. More info.

Open_Close.txt

Open_Close.txt consists in a series of screen captures where I studied the default opening and closing feature from Mac OS X. As you can see in the video above it shows the default way when we open several files or documents at the same time, Mac OS place them in a continuous diagonal direction occupying the *whole desktop (*it depends on the software used, this is TextEdit). After that I noticed TextEdit can save also the form of the own document, so I used three different ways to force the OS to don't go in a diagonal direction by saving the documents occupying all the space in some way. So as you can see in the videos below, in the first one for example, I saved the documents as highest as I could to get a "Horizontal" transition. The opposite for the next video, and for the last one I saved the documents as full screen obtaining any animated transition but a great colored flickering.

This is a great group exhibition where I'm showing my new piece Spectrum Cube, which is between another artworks I love from other artists such as Antony Antonellis, Sterling Crispin, Constant Dullaart, Spiros Hadjidjanos, Martin Kohout, Jan Robert Leegte, Jacob Riddle, Rafael Rozendaal, Nicolas Sassoon, Hugo Scibetta, and publications Drippy Bone Books and Junk Jet. The exhibition is called dotcom and curated by the collective BNSP. It take place at Centre d’Art Bastille in Site sommital de la Bastille Fort de la Bastille, Grenoble, France.

"The issue of digital art in creation today is mostly addressed in structures or festivals specifically invested in this subject. It is therefore quite understandable to question why an art center, whose mission is focused on supporting the creation and diffusion of contemporary art, would choose to seize this issue. Can new perspectives be given? This is partly where the collective BNSP have decided to start their reflection, on the idea that it may be possible to question the evolution of the usage of media.

The BNSP collective will therefore take possession of the Centre d’Art Bastille to present a series of exhibitions about digital arts and new media. Seeking to embrace this artistic movement in all its diversity, the BNSP collective has decided to proceed in cycles to broadly and precisely approach, according to the theme planed for each exhibition, the questions developed by this artistic movement, both in substance and in form, while giving an external or more normative point of view by curators working in the field of contemporary art.

The collective’s first exhibition, dotcom, shows the materialization at work in the creations by the recent digital art scene. A selection of artists was therefore made according to their usage of internet as a medium, not only as a space for showing their work but also as a space for reflecting and questioning.

In fact, as a revolutionary tool, new technologies offer almost unlimited possibilities to the developing of new ways of thinking, creating, presenting. While leading artists and viewers towards regions where the virtual and the reality bear no boundaries, they redefine simultaneously the social space and the notion of art. Many digital creations are born from the artist’s desire to experiment. New technologies give them the freedom to do so.

The Internet, with its few boundaries and limitless space, is obviously where these artists will choose to work and show their work. How can these works that are based on tangible elements such as programs or applications be shown other than online when they are mainly virtual from their making to their result? Well, through the questioning of their materiality.

To materialize is to give a material form to something, to a sensitive reality. It is to situate the immediacy of a work in its physical representation and not in its ability to be constantly accessed by hypertext. This means moving the field of the work and questioning both the work and how it is shown.

The choice of the works and the artists presented in dotcom was conducted accordingly to these interrogations. All these artists have in common a reflection on the usage of Internet as a medium.

Whether it is Martin Kohout or Constant Dullaart, who explore each in their own way the viral power of the world wide web or Sterling Crispin who questions the principles at work in new technologies like Emillio Gomariz does but a radically different way, each of these artists questions in their own way the reality of the virtual. Reality that has gradually taken over the works of Nicolas Sassoon and Rafael Rozendaal in the making of a principle of materiality in their creation, while playing with an online / offline diptych and interfering with that of Anthony Antonellis. There would perhaps only be Spiros Hadjidjanos or Jan Robert Leegte to pull out from this logic, if their works capturing the physical reality of the virtual didn’t reinforce the validity of such a questioning."
