Isaac Infante, 23, strangled Felicia Barahona, 36, with an electric cord in the bathroom of her New York apartment on December 22.He then strangled his young son, Miguel Barahona, after the boy walked in on the crime scene.

Infante, who was a high school pupil when he began a relationship with his teacher Barahona, then placed the child's body face down in the bathtub.The bodies of the mother and son were discovered by the superintendent at the apartment in Hamilton Heights, in Harlem, on Monday, police said.

Infante, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was arrested and confessed to the killings, CBS New York reported.

He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and remanded in custody.Infante allegedly told police he “didn’t like the way she was raising the child” — which included dressing him in feminine looking clothing, CBS2 reported.

He also claimed Barahona was “interfering” in his relationship with his new girlfriend and confessed that he was “tired of paying child support for the kid.”

Barahona was sacked after a 2012 report by investigators at the Bronx school where she taught found that she began a sexual relationship with Infante when he was 18.

The report said she believed she and Infante would get married before their relationship ended.

Police foil plot to bomb Third Mainland Bridge

The police have foiled an attempt by a notorious Niger Delta militant group operating from the creeks of Ikorodu and Arepo on the outskirts of Lagos and Ogun states to blow up the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

A top commander of the group, Abiodun Amos, who is also known as Senti, an Ijaw from Arogbo, Ese-Odo Local Government of Ondo State, who is also said to be the group’s explosive expert, was arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), who trailed him to a river bank at Majidun, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Two AK47 rifles hidden in a “Ghana-Must-Go” bag were found with the suspect. He led the IRT operatives to a vehicle parked discreetly within Ikorodu, where a large catche of dynamite and detonators was recovered— from its boot.

It was also learnt that Amos’ arrest followed intelligence generated by the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), which was passed on to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, indicating that the group was at its final stage of carrying out an attack on the Third Mainland Bridge—Africa’s longest at 13 kilometres.

It was confirmed that the group was actually planning to blow up the bridge at the end of November. The group, detectives discovered, had acquired large quantities of dynamite and several other explosives for the attack.

In October 2016, the group, which has no known identity and was notorious for pipeline vandalism, kidnapping and bank robberies, demanded for amnesty, threatening to disrupt the economy within Lagos and Ogun states if the Federal Government did not dialogue with it and grant its members pipeline protection contracts.

The leader of the militant group, known as “General” Ossy Ibori, who coordinated most of the bank robberies and high profile kidnappings, including that of three schoolgirls at Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School in Ikorodu, four landlords at Isheri North, Oniba of Ibaland, Oba Goriola Oseni and many others within Lagos and Ogun states, boasted in an interview that his group had over 21 “generals” commanding 7,800 battle-ready boys.

He added that the group was rich enough to fight the Federal Government as it had acquired thousands of military grade arms and ammunition, which he said would be deployed in disrupting the economy within Lagos and Ogun states, should the Federal Government fail to dialogue with the group and grant its wishes.

Sources disclosed that the IRT operatives made several arrests within Ikorodu and other parts of Lagos State. One of the suspects is said to have given the police the information, which they used in trailing and arresting Amos, who was on his way into the creeks.

The 43-year-old suspect confessed that his group was formerly into pipeline vandalism but they resorted to kidnapping when it became difficult for them to vandalise and sell their stolen petroleum products. According to him;

“ we went into bank robberies and kidnapping because we wanted to get government attention and all we wanted was for them to grant us amnesty and also offer us pipeline protection contract. We have made several appeals and the government is not listening to us. “General” Ossy said ‘if we don’t blow up the Third Mainland Bridge government’ they would not listen to us. We had concluded plans and we decided to carry out the attack by November ending. I am the group’s explosive expert and before I was arrested we were going into the creek to conclude plans on how to carry out the attack.”

Police spokesman Don Awuna, a deputy Commissioner (DCP) said:

“Yes, an individual was arrested. On sighting the policemen, the second suspect jumped out of his car and escaped into the bush, abandoning the operational vehicle.
”On searching the vehicle, two cartons of Gelatine dynamite explosives and hundreds of detonators were recovered in the boot of the car. Efforts are in progress to arrest the remaining gang members”.

Myanmar to jail men for failing to marry women they impregnate

Myanmar’s government is drafting a law that could see men jailed for up to seven years for getting a woman pregnant but not marrying her, a senior official said on Wednesday.

The provision is part of tough new legislation designed to strengthen women’s rights as the country opens up after half a century of military rule.

According to the Hindustan times, Director of the social welfare department Naw Tha Wah said the new law would criminalise domestic violence for the first time and make gang-rape a capital offence.

If passed in parliament, the law would also carry a penalty of up to five years in prison for any man who refuses to marry a woman after they have lived together, and up to seven if she is pregnant.

“We are now drafting a bill to protect women and prevent violence against them,” Naw Tha Wah told AFP.
“Women can complain if they are bullied into not getting married after living together. We will give them protection under the law.”

A suspected armed robber, Ugochukwu Nnaji, has said that he and other members of his gang decided to rob during the Yuletide in order to celebrate the period like the rich in the society.

Nnaji was one of the two suspects arrested by the operatives of the Imo State Police Command. The suspects specialised in trailing and dispossessing unsuspecting bank customers of their money.

Speaking with Southern City News after they were paraded by the Imo State Police Command in Owerri, Nnaji said the coming of Christmas and New Year usually reminded them that it was time to rob bank customers and enjoy like the rich within the period.

He pointed out that the money they made from menial jobs was always not enough for them to live big like wealthy people, adding that they had been in the “business” (robbing bank customers) for a long time.

“We do it in every festive period, especially Christmas and New Year to also celebrate the period lavishly like others, who have made money.The menial jobs we do would not make us be in line with others during the celebration,” Nnaji, who was arrested on Friday alongside his friend, Chibueze Mgboji, told newsmen.

The duo was arrested by the police after they allegedly attacked a new generation bank and carted away a huge sum of money.

Nnaji, a native of Oboro Amurie in Isu Local Government Area, and Mgboji, a native of Obudi Agwa in Oguta LGA were said to be a two-man gang that specialised in trailing and robbing bank customers in the state capital.

Briefing newsmen at the command’s headquarters, Owerri, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended while escaping with money stolen from a Fidelity Bank customer in Ikenegbu, Owerri.

The CP, who stated that the alarm raised by the victim attracted operatives of the police, said,

“They were immediately given a hot chase and were apprehended.

“Their loot was instantly recovered as they tried to escape. The two suspects, who have confessed to the crime, will soon be charged to court.”

Lakanu noted that the criminals rode on a motorcycle, stating that the two suspects had earlier monitored another bank customer (name withheld) and snatched his bag containing N150, 000.

Lakanu said, “Immediately he came out of the bank with a bag containing money, the duo, operating on a motorcycle, waylaid him and snatched the bag.”

A young boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, terrorised his victims from June to November this year.

He mugged a man for his mobile phone after pulling out a three-inch flick knife on him in Dagenham, Essex.

The victim asked the muggers to give him his phone back as the boy waved the blade at him, shouting "or what?" before making off with his Oyster card .

UK Mirror reports the out-of-control kid criminal went on to steal sweets from A1 Cash and Carry in Dagenham on October 23 as part of a gang of three.
He returned to the same street on November 11 to rob Londis, where he leapt over the shop counter to snatch cigarettes and alcohol.

The nightmare schoolboy was thrown out by shopkeeper Jedanatha Jeyaseelan.

He was captured on CCTV punching him repeatedly in the head as another boy hit him over the head with a bottle.

The thug admitted three counts of robbery and one of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

He muttered "I'm not going to do it again" before receiving a six-month detention order for each count, to run concurrently.

His mum was ordered to pay £100 compensation to be divided between the victims, plus £85 costs and a £30 surcharge.

A married couple who couldn't have children allegedly kidnapped a pregnant mum and cut the baby from her belly - killing them both.

Police believe Thaina da Silva Pinto, 21, and husband Fabio Luiz Lima abducted 22-year-old Rayanni Christini Costa and planned to remove her baby with a knife to keep for themselves.
But the infant and mum both died as the couple cut through the woman's belly, according to police.
The chilling moment the mum-to-be first met her alleged killer before being lured to her death was captured on CCTV .

Investigators yesterday found the charred bodies of what they believe are Ms Costa, who disappeared two weeks ago, and her baby in the garden of the couple's home in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Pinto, who has been married to Lima for three years, had reportedly convinced friends and family that she was pregnant with a girl after posting pictures on social networking sites showing her with an enlarged belly.

In one Facebook post she published photos of baby clothes under the caption: "Come soon my princess!"

But in reality Pinton, who was desperate for her own baby, had been told by doctors that she couldn't have children because of cysts on her ovaries.

Police discovered she had made contact with other poor, young mothers in Rio de Janeiro after joining WhatsApp groups for people wanting to donate baby items, such as clothes, nappies and toys.

Pinto, who used the name Lidia in the groups, would say she had a daughter herself, was a churchgoer and had clothes and a baby stroller to donate.She had arranged to meet some of the other women too, but had always cancelled after finding out they would be coming accompanied by friends - frustrating the couple's alleged plans.

Single mother Ms Costa, however, left her home in the Bangu area of the city on her own on December 13 after dropping off her three-year-old daughter at the creche, saying she was going to collect donations for her baby.

After meeting Pinto at the Central do Brasil train station in Rio, she convinced her to accompany her back to her home, where husband Lima was waiting, it is alleged.

Police believe that, after cutting through Ms Costa's belly, the couple discovered that Ms Costa was only seven months pregnant, not eight and a half as she had told them.

Police chief Elen Souto, from Rio's Department of Missing Persons, said a knife was found in the home and there were pools of blood in several rooms.

Pinto and Lima are under arrest accused of double homicide and concealment of corpses.
