but, sometimes that’s all we need.

Comcast’s campaign to get you to switch to them for your telephony needs, is to put down the “BOEPC,” ie the Big Old Expensive Phone Company.

really? in favor of the Big Old (even more) Expensive Cable Company? you know, the cable company… they give you great prices don’t they!?

that’s like a heroin dealer saying “hey man, that crack’s gonna mess you up. gonna mess with your mind. you know that right? of course you do. how could you not…. so just try this heroin.”

hear me now. one day, i will take down the cable companies.

sound familiar? of course it does.

organizations like the Christian Children’s Fund run similar commercials, where they raise money for, you know, children who are dying of starvation. and children who can’t get simple medication and die from sicknesses we’ve been curing for decades.

why does this all make me so angry? here’s why; i don’t like that people have forgotten that dogs are dogs. there are children (and adults) starving all around the world, and the ASPCA has the audacity to ask Americans for their hard-earned money, to save dogs and cats? is the ASPCA asking for money to save pigeons afflicted with diseases in urban areas? of course they aren’t. and you know why? because pigeons are just pigeons. it’s okay to say that. and for some reason, they’ve forgotten that dogs and cats are just dogs and cats.

i’m a good-hearted person (i think). i respect nature and all animals. i don’t believe in hurting any animal for sport or fun. i love all of earth’s creatures and i’m amazed at how unique and beautiful the animals on earth are. however, i also understand that animals are animals. they are not humans. call me crazy, but i believe that we have an obligation to help HUMANS before we help cats and dogs. i’m all for taking care of sick animals, but shouldn’t we make sure that children aren’t dying from preventable starvation before we start saving Rover?

the reality of it is, that in my eyes, what the ASPCA is doing with this commercial goes beyond what most people see on the surface. the ASPCA knows that charities are asking for money to help children, and they’re asking for money anyway. they’re saying “if you’re going to donate money, please donate to us, not to the children.” i’m sure that there are some people who donate money to children’s charities and animal charities, there must be. but i would assume that most people donating to the ASPCA are not also donating to charities helping with starvation or health problems in the developing world.

so what the ASPCA is saying is, “we think dogs are more important than children in developing countries. give us your money.” and that, is absolutely pathetic.

the ASPCA does great things. they look out for the safety and fair protection of animals, and that’s good. but they are remiss in forgetting their place in the world. ITT Tech knows it isn’t Harvard. and the ASPCA should remember that it looks out for animals. most of which were bred for humans to own. as possessions. how dare they ask for donations while children starve worldwide. in a perfect world, where everyone is taken care of, it would be great to be able to say, “wow, look how civilized we are. we’ve taken care of every human being on earth, and now we can even focus on making sure domesticated animals are safe! bless this utopia!” yea, great. but until every human on earth has food to eat, please, please do NOT give money to the ASPCA.

that being said, if you are in the financial position to do so, please do give money to charities that help HUMANS. it doesn’t say much about us if we can’t take care of each other. i can assure you that once i’m in the financial position to do so, i will be donating regularly. i mean, hell, it’s a mitzvah.
