In the framework of cooperation between Mykolayiv State Agrarian University and University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA, and with Fulbright Foundation support (Fulbright Specialist Program) in our university for 4 weeks will work Julie A. Albrecht, Professor of Nutrition & Health Sciences Dept.of UNL. The main objectives during her stay in MSAU follows:

• Conduct needs assessments, surveys, institutional or programmatic research;

• Take part in specialized academic programs and conferences in conjunction with other scheduled activities;

• Present lectures at graduate and undergraduate levels;

• Participate in or lead seminars and workshops;

• Develop and assess academic curricula and educational materials.

At the official meeting with Vyacheslav Shebanin, the rector of the Mykolayiv State Agrarian University was discussed guest’s work plan, her participation in the scientific work on departments, cultural program. Also was reached preliminary agreement on training students of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in MSAU. After final approval by the Ministries of Agriculture of both countries the exchange will have a great future - agreed both parties.

29 November - 1 December 2011 Mykolayiv State Agrarian University hosted a delegation of the Federation Exchanges France-Ukraine: Philippe Genet, vice president of Cooperation Poitou - Charentes - Ukraine, Josette Genet - interviewer, Roger Wowk - President of Cooperation Bourgogne - Champagne - Ukraine and Michel Bonte - Head of Humanities Department of the federation. Traditionally, a federation presented programs for university students, and then held a contest among those wishing to undergo training in France in 2012.

The National Tempus Office in Ukraine (NTO) in close cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine has announced the registration for the Tempus Information Days.

Tempus InfoDays will provide an opportunity to raise awareness among higher education institutions of the possibilities offered by the European Educational Programs: Tempus, Erasmus Mundus and Jean Monnet. The information on the fifth call for proposals novelties under the TEMPUS IV programme, explanation on the electronic form and e-submission, recommendations on how to make a good proposal, results of the forth call, selection procedure, best practice, success stories from previous projects will be presented during the events.

The representatives of the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (ЕАСЕА, Brussels) responsible for Tempus, Erasmus Mundus and Jean Monnet programs are invited to the events.

Representatives from all Higher Education Institutions all over Ukraine in charge of International Relations, project activities or fundraising are invited to attend this event; other interested parties are also welcome.

Schedule of Tempus Days in Ukraine for 2011
1. Tempus Information Day in South region. On October 27, 2011 at 10.00-16.30; at National Maritime Academy (Odesa). Registration is open.
2. Tempus Information Day in East region.
On November 10, 2011 at 10.00-16.30; at Dnipropetrovsk National Oles Gonchar University (Dnipropetrovsk). Registration is open.
3. All-Ukrainian Tempus Info Day for all interested parties involved into modernization of higher education. On December 21, 2011, at 10.00 -16.30; at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Kyiv). Registration is open.
4. Consultations for project teams which intend to apply with projects will be organized the 2nd days after events respectively: October 28, November 11, and December 22 upon preliminary arrangement. Places and schedules for consultations will be announced in the Agenda to respective events. Registration is open.

New 2-year master's programme

The Alpen-Adria University Klagenfurt, Austria, is offering a new 2-year master's programme in "International Management". The university seeks applications from abroad for this programme. The master is based on culture and business administration and is taught in English to guarantee the international flair of the programme. A mixture of courses related to marketing, innovation management, entrepreneurship and financial accounting in global contexts guarantee profound management skills. University hosted the delegation of students and teachers

Doors of Mykolayiv State Agrarian University are always hospitably open not only for Ukrainian students, teachers and researchers. On May 16, 2011 University hosted the delegation of students and teachers from Agricultural College of Iowa State University. The meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, and were established a good relationship between students and representatives of both universities.

President of MSAU Vyacheslav Shebanin welcomed participants of the delegation.

Dean of the Agricultural Faculty Valentina Gamayunova introduced faculty and university, and answered the question of American colleagues and students.

Students of the Iowa State University Erich Hodges and Amanda Janich shared their impressions of stay in Ukraine and Mykolayiv particularly.

Everybody was enjoyed the meeting and agreed on future cooperation and visits.

From early childhood I had a dream – to go to another country, learn its customs and traditions, life style, learn from foreign experience in dealing with diverse issues.

And this summer my dreams came true. I had the opportunity to visit France through a French-Ukrainian Federation of Exchanges. I stayed two months with the family, engaged in seed production and breeding of goats. Frankly speaking – it was a bit difficult. But despite this, I got a lot of fun, learned a lot of useful and new things. And most importantly, I learned to be more independent, to find solutions to various issues, became anxious and more concentrated.

I lived with a family of farmers who were breeding goats and making cheese. I was received cordially and hospitably, and within two months family helped me to adapt because I was the first time thousands of miles away from my own family. For me it was very interesting to learn about their lifestyle, way of rest and work, their traditions and customs.

I want to thank the rector of the Mykolayiv State Agrarian University and foreign language lecturer Zrobok Natalya for the support and assistance.

This trip will remain in my memory forever.

My internship lasted from 07.05.10 to 08.31.10 in the region of Auvergne. This was my second internship through a French-Ukrainian Federation of Exchanges. I refined the language and nuances of French cooking at the restaurant La Ferme de l´Ange. Region Auvergne extremely beautiful and attractive for tourists, people are very hospitable and friendly. Impressions of training – only positive!

The annual conference of the Magna Charta

Memorandum of understanding between Chungbuk University and MSAU

As result of the official visit of the delegation from the Republic of Korea to the Mykolayiv in May 19th, 2010, became the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Chungbuk University and Mykolayiv State Agrarian University. It is a significant step forward in relations between HEIs.

W.E.L.L. Workshop in English Language and Leadership

The Workshop in English Language and Leadership (WELL) was held at Mykolayiv State Agrarian University on Saturday, 27 March 2010. It was opened to students from all of Mykolayiv but the majority of the 70 attendees came from our university. WELL is a series of one-day workshops that are being held at sites within the Rivnenska, L´vivska, Ternopilska, Transcarpathia, Sumska and Kirovohradska regions and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in addition to Mykolaivska. It is offered under the auspices of Peace Corps/Ukraine in conjuction with young Ukrainian adults who are "graduates" of the program themselves. Ms.S Marcy, currently our Peace Corps teaching volunteer in the School of Management and Miss K. Matveyeva of our Foreign Language Department, brought the program to MSAU. Students interacted with native English speakers, Ukrainian young adults, and their peers while participating in classes in Leadership, Project Planning, Culture Studies, Music, and Team Building. At the end of the workshop, students engaged in a competitive presentation session to demonstrate and apply the knowledge they had acquired throughout the day.

It was a high octane day, fueled by snacks and pizza, providing lots of opportunity to develop personal skills and to build self-confidence while communicating in English. Students from all faculties participated, thereby creating networks within the university for further language development and civic engagement opportunities. Plans are underway to expand this event into an English language leadership opporunity to be held on a regular basis and open to all interested in improving their English language skills at the university. Participants also learned about a 11-day summer forum called Cactus that will build upon the WELL experience in Ternopil in July. To learn more about this go to: www.cactus-ua.org. This is one of numerous English language forums/camps that are offered around Ukraine by the Peace Corps.

Mykolayiv State Agrarian University was attended by Lyubov Slatyuk, the representative of LOGOeV internship program (German Society for Promotion of sustainable agriculture and education of young farmers from Eastern Europe and Central Asia). Besides the official part of the appointment, also there was presentation of the program, interview and selection for those who have expressed a desire to participate.

Without doubt, training abroad is not only an indispensable part of their professional education, but also a tool of personality enrichment and contributes to the integration processes in general.

At the Great Palace of St. Lucia was officially signed the Magna Charta

The Bologna process has two components: the formation of the Commonwealth of leading European universities under the auspices of the document called Magna Charta Universitatum, and integration of national systems of education in the European space with uniform criteria and standards. The main goal of this process is consolidation of scientific and educational community efforts as well as the governments of European countries to significantly increase the competitiveness of European research and higher education in global terms.

Management of the Mykolayiv State Agrarian University, realizing the importance and necessity of further positive transformations in the field of science and education, can not stand by these processes. So during one of the regular meetings of the MSAU Academic Council, after analyzing the proposals of the International Department, was adopted unanimously a positive decision on accession to the Magna Charta Universitatum.

17-18 September 2009 in Bologna, Italy, the delegation of MSAU – Rector Vyacheslav Shebanin, Vice Rector Dmytro Babenko and senior lecturer Inna Stryukova – participated in the solemn celebration of the XXI Anniversary of the Magna Charta Universitatum and Official signing ceremony.

September 17, 2009, at 9:00 began celebrations on the occasion of the XXI anniversary of the creation of Magna Charta Universitatum. Theme of the conference this year was as follows: "Crisis, Cuts, Contemplations – How Academia may help rescuing society".
Among the speakers were:

September 18, 2009 at 10:30 am, at the Great Palace of St. Lucia was officially signed the Magna Charta.

Ceremony begun with a welcoming speech made by Pierre Hugo Kalzolari, Rector of the University of Bologna, and Dimitris Tsougarakis, Rector of the Ionian University, were was provided a historic analysis of the role of universities for regional development. This was followed by the signing ceremony, in which Rector of MSAU Vyacheslav Shebanin among 36 representatives of new universities signed the Magna Charta Universitatum and thereby declared their commitment to adhering to its principles and values.

On solemnities students was welcomed by: First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine Yuriy Luzan, Governor of Mykolayiv region Alexey Garkusha, Head of regional council Tatyana Demchenko and the mayor Volodymyr Chayka.

New entrances have a European look. All lecture rooms has new furniture, interactive boards instead of the usual. Modern computer classes.

English Global Products Fair in Kyiv on 28–30 October 2009 will bring together ELT professionals from around Ukraine who have worked with the British Council on the ELT and education reform projects. The official presentation of the National Tempus office in Ukraine

April 3, 2009 was the official presentation of the National Tempus office in Ukraine; the working language of the event – English.

This Information Seminar provided an opportunity to raise awareness among higher education institutions of the possibilities offered by the second call for proposals under the TEMPUS IV programme and to inform on operational aspects of selection procedures and project implementation.

The opening session of the seminar was led by representatives of the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine, alongside with representatives of the Ministry for Education and Science of Ukraine and Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Municipal Pedagogical University.

The newly opened NTO in Ukraine, its objectives, tasks and team were introduced to the participants of the seminar.

During this event the main changes in the Tempus IV second call compared to the first one were underlined (http://ec.europa.eu/tempus). The participants were informed of the results of Ukrainian Higher Education Institutions participation in the first Tempus IV call and updated on the other EC funded programmes in the area of Higher Education open to Ukraine, e.g. Erasmus Mundus, Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window.

25.03.2009 University was visited by Ms. Sonhiong Bek, director of the Ukrainian branch of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). Was discussed hosting a volunteer in order to exchange experiences in the field of high computer technologies. The appointment was made possible thanks to cooperation with the Office of Education and Science in the Mykolayiv region and Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ukraine.

Head of Informatics Department S.M.Ihsanov informed representatives of the Agency with the current state of teaching of informatics in University, also were clarified details of the future reception, stay and volunteer work. Arrival of the Korean teacher is scheduled for fourth quarter 2009.

Shamil Ihsanov, accompanied by Viktor Vyshkvarkov, Head of the International Office, organized for our Korean guests a mini-tour of computer classes.

University has been accepted by the Observatory Council to become a member of the Magna Charta Universitatum, one of the most influential international organizations of universities. 17th and 18th September 2009 will be dedicated to a conference and to the official ceremony of the signature of the Magna Charta Universitatum.

One of the most important ways of developments of higher education in the European area is the Bologna process. Bologna process is a process of European reforms, which aimed at creating a common European Higher Education Area by 2010. Bologna process officially began in 1999 with the signing of the Bologna Declaration. A prerequisite of its establishment was the signing of the Great Charter of European Universities (Magna Charta Universitatum).

The Magna Charta of the European Universities is the final result of the proposal addressed from the University of Bologna, in 1986, to the oldest European Universities. The idea of the Magna Charta was enthusiastically accepted.

During a meeting in Bologna (June 1987) the delegates of 80 European Universities elected an eight members board including: the President of the European Rectors Conference, the Rectors of the Universities of Bologna, Paris I, Leuven, Barcelona, prof. Giuseppe Caputo (University of Bologna), prof. Manuel Nunez Encabo (President of the sub-commission for Universities of the Parlamentary Assembly of the European Council).

The document, drafted in Barcelona in January 1988, was signed by all the Rectors who were in Bologna to celebrate the 900th Anniversary of the Alma Mater.

The aims of this document are to celebrate the deepest values of University traditions and to encourage bonds among European Universities.

It should be noted that the Bologna process envisages the creation of completely identical systems of education in different countries; it is intended only to strengthen relationships and improve understanding between different educational systems.

19 May 2005 at a conference in the Norwegian city of Bergen Ukraine formally joined the Bologna process. Join our countries to the Bologna process provides an opportunity to implement structural reforms of higher education system agreed criteria, standards and specifications that will allow Ukraine to become a recognized part of the European educational and scientific space.

TEMPUS Joint European Project 27136_2006 (IMBASMA)

Young scholars, participated in TEMPUS Joint European Project 27136_2006 (IMBASMA) "Implementation of basic & advanced scientific methodologies in agricultural Master & PhD curricula", have returned to their alma-mater.

During a period of two years, this project was developing and implementing a module on scientific communication and research methodology that will help to upgrade the research and scientific communication skills of master and PhD students at three Ukrainian Agricultural Universities (the Mykolayiv State Agrarian University, Mykolayiv, the National Agricultural University of Ukraine, Kiev, and the Lviv Agrarian University, Lviv). Special emphasis was given to the following disciplines: soil and nutrient management, horticulture and agricultural economics because of the previous expertise developed in these fields.

The objective was achieved by:

(1) providing a basic training in scientific communication to a large group of master students and young staff members,

(2) giving an advanced training course in scientific writing and communication, proposal development and general research methodology to a selected group of promising master students and young staff members,

(3) providing advanced training in specific research methodologies in the selected academic fields to a selected group of promising master students and young staff members,

(4) developing of an adapted course module in scientific communication and research methodology by selected staff members at the UA universities,

(5) implementing for the first time the newly developed course module in the three UA universities, and

(6) preparation of the legally required accreditation materials for recognition of the newly developed course by the Ukrainian Ministry of Education.

Fulbright academic exchanges

February 26, 2009. At 10:00 at the press center of Mykolayiv State Agrarian University was held a presentation program of Fulbright academic exchanges.

Program coordinator Natalya Zalutsky and former program graduate, Oleksander Pronkevych, Fulbright academic advisor in Mykolayiv, after the main program answered questions of young scientists and students on the details of participation and Fulbright movement prospects in southern Ukraine.

12.02.09 University was attended by representatives of the Federation of Exchanges France-Ukraine (FEFU). In the program of the visit was meeting with President Vyacheslav Shebanin and interviews with students to further the selection of candidates for participation in first level of CPCU training program. Selection criteria were high knowledge of French and motivation. Students, who passed the interview, will spend 2 months in the region Poitou Charente, France, in host families, so as to improve their French and further support of francophony.

Cooperation with Peace Corps

In cooperation with Peace Corps our University for two years (to 2010) will host volunteer. Suzanne Marcy will work at the department of foreign languages and teach English. During the meeting with the rector, which was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, were discussed future plans and stay in Mykolayiv of Peace Corps volunteers in general and Suzanne in particular. They raised the issue of intercultural communication and further cooperation with this organization. By the way, Suzanne liked our city and university. According to her, this is the first visit to post-Soviet country, and she was pleasantly surprised with the high level of reception and stay.

Peace Corps was established in Ukraine in 1992 when Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk and American President George Bush signed a bilateral agreement to establish a Peace Corps program in Ukraine.

Since that time the United States Peace Corps has cooperated with numerous progressive organizations. American Volunteers work and live side by side with Ukrainian colleagues for two years sharing experiences and developing relationships that often last a lifetime.

Projects

Teaching English as a Foreign Language: Volunteers teach English in Secondary Schools, Universities, and Pedagogical Colleges. They also facilitate teacher trainings at the In-Service Teacher Training Institutes. While applying new teaching methods, Volunteers assist Ukrainian teachers in developing their classroom repertoire, and help their students acquire language skills that will help them succeed both in further education and in a future career.

Youth Development: Volunteers working in secondary schools, vocational technical schools and cooperating with local departments of family, youth and sports help young Ukrainians prepare for their careers and lives in the new Ukraine. They offer young people in-school lessons, extracurricular activities, and conduct community projects aimed at preventing substance abuse and the spread of HIV. They promote healthy lifestyles, develop skills in information technology, basic business and leadership, civics, ecology and career development.

Community Development: Volunteers work mostly with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and in partnership with municipal government organizations and businesses. They promote social and economic development at the grass-roots level. Volunteers' goals are to increase the capacity of individual community members and service providers, to assist local institutions in achieving organizational sustainability, and to foster cross-sector cooperation between NGOs, government entities and private enterprise.
