Can Bible Prophecy Really Be Understood?

Yes. Bible prophecy can be understood. God did not inspire the prophets, preserve their writings for thousands of years, and include them in Scripture merely to leave His people permanently confused about their meaning.

Jesus expected His followers to read and understand prophecy. Daniel was told that the wise would understand in the time of the end, and Revelation begins by pronouncing a blessing upon those who read, hear, and keep the things written in it (Rev. 1:3).

That does not mean every prophecy is equally easy to understand, every prophetic detail has already become clear, or every sincere Bible student will reach exactly the same conclusion. Prophecy contains visions, symbols, historical references, future events, and passages separated from their fulfillment by centuries or even millennia. Understanding it requires careful study.

Fortunately, God has not left us without guidance. Scripture frequently interprets its own prophetic symbols, parallel passages illuminate one another, fulfilled prophecy demonstrates how prophetic language operates, and the historical and biblical contexts help establish what a passage can and cannot mean. Bible prophecy should therefore be approached neither as an incomprehensible mystery nor as an invitation to unlimited speculation. We should be clear where Scripture is clear, confident where the biblical evidence is strong, and humble where our conclusions depend upon interpretation.

Prophecy Was Given to Be Understood

One of the strongest arguments that Bible prophecy can be understood comes from Jesus Himself.

While describing events surrounding His Second Coming, Jesus referred directly to a prophecy from the book of Daniel:

“When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)”

Matthew 24:15 King James Version (KJV)

Notice the final words: “whoso readeth, let him understand.”

Jesus did not tell His disciples that Daniel’s prophecy was unknowable. He expected future readers to understand it well enough to recognize the event when it occurred.

Jesus made a similar point later in the chapter:

“So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.”

Matthew 24:33 KJV

How could believers recognize “these things” if Christ intended prophecy to remain unintelligible?

When the disciples asked Jesus why He spoke to the multitudes in parables, He answered:

“Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.”
Matthew 13:11 KJV

Mark records the same teaching this way:

“Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:”
Mark 4:11 KJV

This reveals an important biblical principle. A mystery is not necessarily something God intends to remain forever unknowable. God has the ability to reveal truth to those who sincerely hunger for it while simultaneously veiling that truth from those whose hearts are unreceptive to it. The issue is not merely intellectual ability, but also one’s response to truth.

Do you really “LOVE” truth? What’s scary is, you can really LIKE truth, and be lost.

Paul later warned of those who perish “because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved” (2 Thessalonians 2:10). By contrast, Jesus promised, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).

The presence of mysteries, symbols, parables, and visions in Scripture therefore does not mean God’s truth is beyond understanding. Some truths require spiritual receptivity, diligent study, and a sincere desire to know what God has revealed. The same God who inspired prophetic mysteries is able to give understanding to those who earnestly seek the truth.

James 4:2 teaches:

“… ye have not, because ye ask not”

So, what are you waiting for?

Ask Him today for divine wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and revelatory insight of His precious Word and all things concerning Bible prophecy. If you will do your part (i.e., study, prayer, live righteously, remain filled with His Spirit, rightly divide the Word of truth, ask for guidance and revelation), He will do his part (i.e., lead and guide you into all truth). God is able to give understanding in whatever way He chooses. Scripture even records occasions when He sent angels to explain prophetic revelation (cf. Daniel 8:15–17; Revelation 17:7).

Daniel provides another important clue to understanding Bible prophecy. Near the conclusion of his book, Daniel was told:

“Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.”

Daniel 12:9 KJV

The words were not sealed forever. They were sealed “till the time of the end.”

Guess what time it is? We are living in the END of the end-times today.

The next verse adds:

“None of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.”

Daniel 12:10 KJV

Daniel 11:33 similarly describes people living amid the events of the prophecy:

“And they that understand among the people shall instruct many…”

Daniel 11:33 KJV

According to Daniel, there would be people who understood these prophecies well enough to teach others.

The book of Revelation also assumes that its message can be understood and obeyed:

“Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.”

Revelation 1:3 KJV

A blessing is promised not merely for possessing Revelation, but for reading, hearing, and keeping its message.

The biblical question, therefore, is not simply whether prophecy can be understood.

The next question is how.

Start With Scripture, Not Current Events

One of the greatest dangers in studying Bible prophecy is beginning with today’s headlines and then searching Scripture for something that appears to match them.

A war begins, so someone searches Revelation for a war.

A new technology appears, so someone attempts to identify it as the Mark of the Beast.

A political leader rises to prominence, so someone begins looking for reasons he might be the Antichrist.

A new international organization forms, so someone immediately identifies it as the fulfillment of a prophetic government.

That is not the kind of “watching” Jesus commanded. That is what I call guesstimation and speculation.

I recall in my younger days hearing preachers say, “Some have the give of prophecy, some have the gift of gossip.” While it is not a sin to speculate, gossip and guesstimations can be dangerous.

Those methods can easily make current events control our interpretation of Scripture.

The order should be reversed.

Begin with the Bible. Determine as carefully as possible what Scripture says must happen. Then examine history and current events to determine whether the biblical requirements have been fulfilled or are developing.

Current events can be extremely important to the study of prophecy, but the newspaper should never become our prophetic dictionary.

Scripture must remain the authority.

And it must be studied diligently by those seeking to be approved of God.

Let the Bible Explain Its Own Symbols

Prophetic books contain unusual imagery: beasts, horns, wings, statues, stars, lampstands, dragons, heads, seals, trumpets, and many other symbols.

That can make prophecy appear intimidating.

However, one of the most important principles for understanding prophetic symbolism is surprisingly simple:

Before deciding what a symbol means, determine whether the Bible explains it.

Often, it does.

Daniel 8 provides an excellent example.

Daniel saw a ram with two horns and later a goat with a notable horn. If all we possessed were the vision, interpreters could offer countless theories about what those animals represented.

But Scripture gives us the interpretation:

“The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia. And the rough goat is the king of Grecia…”

Daniel 8:20–21 KJV

There is no need to guess. The angel explains the symbols.

Revelation does the same thing.

John saw a woman sitting upon seven mountains. Revelation 17:9 says:

“The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.”

John also saw ten horns. Again, Scripture provides an explanation:

“And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings…”

Earlier in Revelation, John sees seven golden candlesticks. Revelation 1:20 identifies them:

“…the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.”

These examples establish an important habit for studying prophecy:

Do not begin by asking, “What do I think this symbol means?” Begin by asking, “Has God explained this symbol somewhere in His Word?”

The Bible is its own most important interpretive resource.

Compare Scripture With Scripture

No major doctrine should be constructed from one isolated verse when numerous passages address the same subject. Bible prophecy is no different.

Consider the events surrounding the Second Coming.

Daniel describes an evil ruler, persecution, sacrifice being stopped, and the abomination of desolation.

Jesus refers His disciples back to Daniel while describing the Great Tribulation and His return.

Paul describes the man of sin, his opposition to God, and events associated with the coming of Christ.

John describes the Beast, his authority, his persecution of the saints, and his ultimate destruction when Jesus returns.

These passages were written by different men in different centuries, yet they contain striking parallels.

Studying them together can provide information that would be missed if each passage were interpreted in isolation.

This is why serious prophecy study often requires moving throughout Scripture.

Daniel helps us understand Revelation. Revelation can illuminate Daniel. The Olivet Discourse helps establish the sequence surrounding Christ’s return. Paul’s epistles provide additional details concerning the resurrection, the Rapture, the man of sin, and the day of the Lord.

The objective is not to force unrelated passages together. It is to recognize when biblical writers are describing the same person, event, symbol, or prophetic period and allow the passages to illuminate one another.

God is wonderful like that; He reveals truth to those willing to study out the matter and cherish it, while concealing the complete truth of a matter from those who fail to love and seek the complete truth.

Context Still Matters in Prophecy

The rules of responsible Bible interpretation do not disappear when we open Daniel or Revelation.

We should still ask basic questions:

Who is speaking?

Who is being addressed?

What question is being answered?

What happened immediately before this passage?

What happens immediately afterward?

Is the writer describing something he saw in a vision, explaining the vision, recording a historical event, or giving direct instruction?

What does the passage actually say?

All of these things are essentially Hermeneutics 101, and they certainly apply to Bible prophecy and the many prophetic themes and genre available within the scope of Bible prophecy.

But, back to our construct of understanding prophetic texts; we must launch with a realism that asks, “what does the passage actually say?”

For example, Matthew 24 begins with questions from Jesus’ disciples. They ask Him about the destruction of the Temple, the sign of His coming, and the end of the age. The rest of the chapter should be read with those questions in mind.

Likewise, Revelation contains different kinds of material. John sometimes records what he sees, while at other times an angel explains what John has seen. Recognizing the difference between a vision and its interpretation can be extremely important.

Context does not answer every prophetic question automatically, but ignoring context can produce interpretations that the passage itself never intended.

Recognize Both Literal and Symbolic Language

Another common mistake is assuming that everything in prophecy must be literal or, at the opposite extreme, that nearly everything must be symbolic.

The Bible uses both.

A beast in Daniel or Revelation may symbolize a kingdom or ruler. A horn may represent a king. Revelation explicitly demonstrates this.

But the existence of symbolic language does not mean every geographical location, person, period of time, war, temple, or political event should automatically be transformed into a metaphor.

The responsible interpreter asks what the text gives us reason to understand symbolically and what it presents straightforwardly.

When Scripture identifies a symbol, we should accept its explanation. When the passage gives no indication that ordinary language is symbolic, we should be cautious about inventing a hidden meaning.

Prophecy is not made more spiritual by making everything figurative.

Neither is it made more faithful by forcing every image into wooden literalism.

Our responsibility is to understand the language in the way Scripture uses it.

Distinguish What the Bible Says From How We Interpret It

This may be one of the most important disciplines in responsible prophecy teaching.

There is a difference between biblical revelation and our identification of its fulfillment.

For example, Daniel 7:4 says:

“The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings…”

That is what the Bible says.

When an interpreter identifies the lion, the eagle’s wings, or both with particular nations, that identification is an interpretation of the biblical symbols.

The distinction does not mean an interpretation cannot be correct or supported by substantial evidence. It means we should be honest about which part of the argument comes directly from the text and which part represents our conclusion from the evidence.

The same discipline should govern discussions about modern technology.

Revelation 13 teaches that a time will come when people will be unable to buy or sell without the Mark of the Beast.

That is biblical revelation.

Whether a particular digital currency, biometric system, identification program, artificial intelligence platform, or other emerging technology will eventually be involved in implementing that system is a separate question.

Those technologies may provide fascinating evidence that such a system is increasingly possible. But possibility is not the same thing as fulfillment.

Responsible prophecy teaching should therefore distinguish among statements such as:

The Bible says…

The passage appears to indicate…

We understand this prophecy to refer to…

This development could help make the prophesied system possible…

Those statements express different levels of certainty.

Making those distinctions does not weaken Bible prophecy. It strengthens our credibility when explaining it.

Fulfilled Prophecy Helps Us Understand Unfulfilled Prophecy

We also have an enormous advantage that the original prophets did not possess.

We can look backward.

Many prophecies have already been fulfilled.

The Old Testament foretold details concerning the Messiah centuries before Jesus Christ was born. His birthplace, ministry, rejection, suffering, death, and other aspects of His life were prophetically anticipated.

Jesus Himself explained one purpose of prophecy:

“And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.”

John 14:29 KJV

Fulfilled prophecy strengthens our confidence in God’s Word, but it also teaches us something about interpretation.

We can compare prophecy with fulfillment.

How literally was the prediction fulfilled?

Where was symbolism involved?

What details became obvious only after the event?

What did earlier readers understand correctly?

What assumptions did they make that the text itself did not require?

These are valuable questions because they teach humility as we approach prophecies that remain unfulfilled.

The God who accurately foretold the First Coming of Jesus Christ can be trusted concerning His Second Coming.

Some Prophecies Become Clearer as Fulfillment Approaches

Daniel himself did not understand everything he was shown.

He wrote:

“And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?”

Daniel 12:8 KJV

First note, that if the prophet Daniel can admit when he doesn’t know something, then we should demonstrate that same kind of humility when we approach difficult to understand biblical text.

Secondly, note also that it is okay to not understand everything. Don’t beat yourself up simply because you are fresh out of omniscience. However, this late in the game of time and humanity, much of what God is revealing through His Word is understandable.

But, back to Daniel.

God’s response was not that the prophecy could never be understood. Daniel was told that the words were “sealed till the time of the end” (Daniel 12:9).

This suggests an important principle.

A prophecy may be true long before all the circumstances necessary for understanding its fulfillment are visible.

People living before the rise or fall of certain kingdoms could not look backward upon the same history available to later generations. Likewise, technological, political, religious, or geopolitical developments may make aspects of a prophecy easier to understand as history moves closer to its fulfillment.

This should not give us permission to force every new development into prophecy.

It should produce watchfulness.

Jesus said:

“And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.”

Mark 13:37 KJV

The Christian’s responsibility is neither to ignore world events nor to sensationalize them.

We watch them through the lens of Scripture.

If we do that, I am convinced that God will amaze us all.

Understanding Prophecy Requires Humility

If Bible prophecy can be understood, does that mean every sincere Christian will agree about every detail?

Clearly not.

Christians who affirm the inspiration and authority of Scripture have reached different conclusions concerning the timing of the Rapture, the Millennium, the identity of prophetic symbols, the relationship between Israel and the Church, and other eschatological questions.

Disagreement does not mean truth is unknowable.

Nor does it mean we should criticize or ostracize one with another view point, especially concerning interpreting things that are less clear and are not salvational issues.

Time tells secrets. Therefore, when Scripture does not permit absolute certainty, a wise approach is to explain the evidence for your conclusion while acknowledging that further information may sharpen or correct your understanding in the future.

The realization that we are not perfect, and that many ideas and interpretations exist, should make us careful and kind in our presentation and dealings with others.

Ephesians 5:15 (KJV) says

There are prophetic truths Scripture states explicitly. There are interpretations supported by a strong accumulation of biblical and historical evidence. And there are details about which responsible students of Scripture should acknowledge uncertainty.

The goal should not be uncertainty about everything.

Neither should it be certainty about everything.

A healthy approach might be summarized this way:

Be clear where Scripture is clear. Be confident where the evidence is strong. Be humble where conclusions depend upon interpretation.

That principle allows Christians to study prophecy seriously without becoming either dogmatic about speculation or skeptical about the possibility of understanding God’s Word.

Leave yourself grace and room to grow. If you leave yourself zero room for mistakes, and happen to make one, all credibility can quickly be lost.

When others are obviously wrong, of course we can kindly object and teach truth, but we should do so with love, compassion, mercy and grace (for there may come a time when WE need a truck-load of each for ourselves). We reap what we’ve sown.

The Holy Spirit and the Study of Prophecy

Bible prophecy cannot be reduced merely to an academic exercise.

Jesus promised that the Holy Ghost would guide His disciples into all truth (John 16:13). Paul taught that spiritual things are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:10–14). Daniel notes that none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall (Daniel 12:10). Note: Matthew 25:1-13 portrays the wise virgins as spiritually prepared to meet the Bridegroom. We understand the oil they possess as representing the Holy Spirit.

Study matters. Historical context matters. Language matters. Comparing Scripture with Scripture matters. Good scholarship matters.

But so do prayer, humility, obedience, and dependence upon God.

The Holy Spirit does not give us permission to ignore context or make Scripture mean whatever we feel it means. Rather, believers should approach God’s Word prayerfully, asking the same Spirit who inspired Scripture to help them receive and understand its truth.

Intellectual discipline and spiritual dependence are not enemies.

The serious student of Bible prophecy needs both.

Prophecy Should Produce Preparation, Not Speculation

There is another test we should apply to our study of prophecy:

What is it producing in us?

The purpose of Bible prophecy is not merely to satisfy curiosity about the future.

Jesus repeatedly connected prophecy with watchfulness.

Paul connected the coming day of the Lord with spiritual sobriety.

John connected Revelation with hearing and keeping what was written.

Peter asked a deeply practical question after describing events associated with the day of the Lord:

“Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness”

2 Peter 3:11 KJV

Properly understood prophecy should not merely make us more informed.

It should make us more faithful.

It should strengthen confidence in Scripture, remind us that God remains sovereign over history, motivate us to reach others with the gospel, and cause us to examine whether we are spiritually prepared for the return of Jesus Christ.

Sooner or later, we must fall head-over-heels in love with J – E – S – U – S.

That is ultimately what this is all about. And when we get to where we need to be with him, our focus must shift to helping others with the same journey for themselves.

So, Can Bible Prophecy Really Be Understood?

Yes. But not without effort. If we will do our part, God will do His.

Jesus told readers of Daniel to understand. Daniel said the wise would understand. Paul taught that believers should not remain in darkness concerning the coming day. Revelation pronounces a blessing upon those who read, hear, and keep its message.

God has also given us tools within Scripture for understanding prophecy responsibly.

Start with the Bible rather than the headlines.

Let Scripture explain its own symbols whenever possible.

Compare parallel passages.

Respect historical and literary context.

Recognize both literal and symbolic language.

Learn from fulfilled prophecy.

Distinguish biblical statements from interpretive conclusions.

Remain humble where the evidence does not permit absolute certainty.

And approach God’s Word prayerfully.

Bible prophecy was never intended to become a playground for speculation, although speculation can be fun.

Neither was it intended to remain an impenetrable mystery, even though many love a good mystery.

It was given to reveal God’s plan, strengthen faith, prepare His people, and ultimately point us all toward Jesus Christ.

The question is not simply whether Bible prophecy can be understood. It can.

The question is whether we are willing to study it carefully enough to understand what God has revealed.

West Bank Pressure Builds Against Israel

International pressure on Israel over Judea and Samaria, commonly called the West Bank, took another significant step Tuesday as the United Kingdom announced a ban on imports from Israeli settlements, with France and Canada preparing similar measures.

Britain’s new policy will prohibit imports of goods produced in Israeli settlements and restrict companies from providing services that facilitate settlement expansion, including financing, construction, infrastructure, real estate and advertising.

France and Canada have announced plans for similar restrictions.

A broader group of 12 nations, including Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden, also expressed support for national or European measures restricting settlement trade.

British officials say the measures are intended to protect the possibility of a future Palestinian state. Israel strongly rejected the action and responded by announcing the closure of the British consulate in Jerusalem and other diplomatic measures.

Whatever one’s political assessment of the dispute, Bible prophecy students should pay close attention to the growing international tension surrounding Judea.

Jesus specifically identified this region when describing events that will occur during the final years before His return.

In Matthew 24:15-16, Jesus said:

“When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place… Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains.”

Christ then warned of an unparalleled period of persecution:

“For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”
Matthew 24:21 KJV

These sanctions are not the fulfillment of Matthew 24:15-21. The Abomination of Desolation has not occurred, and there is no biblical reason to identify today’s trade dispute as the beginning of the Great Tribulation.

But the location makes the escalating tension prophetically noteworthy.

Jesus did not simply warn that trouble would someday come to the Middle East. He specifically told those “in Judaea” to flee when the Abomination of Desolation occurs. That means the territory at the center of today’s increasingly heated international dispute will also become the scene of extraordinary events during the final 3½ years before Christ’s return.

The current controversy is also becoming increasingly international. Britain, France and Canada are no longer alone. Twelve governments have now jointly declared their intention either to introduce restrictions on settlement trade or support European restrictions, while calling on Israel to halt settlement expansion.

The prophetic question is not whether today’s sanctions fulfill Matthew 24. They do not.

The question is whether we are watching tensions steadily accumulate around the very territory Jesus specifically identified as a focal point of the coming Great Tribulation.

Today the dispute concerns settlements, borders, trade and the creation of a Palestinian state. Bible prophecy tells us that a much greater crisis will eventually engulf Judea when the Antichrist commits the Abomination of Desolation and those living there are commanded by Jesus Christ to flee for their lives.

We should therefore watch developments in Judea carefully. The pressure is building, the number of nations becoming involved is increasing, and Scripture has already revealed that this contested land will one day stand at the center of one of the most consequential events of the end time. All these things point to the fact that Jesus knows the future, and God’s Word (i.e., the Bible) is true. – John 17:17

France and Germany Push for Stronger EU Foreign Policy

Europe’s two most influential continental powers are pressing for changes that could make the European Union more cohesive on the world stage.

France and Germany have called for a major overhaul of the EU’s foreign-policy machinery, prompting European Commission officials to examine whether significant functions of the European External Action Service should be incorporated into the Commission itself. The proposal is intended to improve coordination between European diplomacy and the EU’s existing powers over trade, foreign aid, technology and digital regulation. The proposal remains under discussion and faces opposition from some EU officials and member states.

Bible prophecy gives us reason to watch every serious movement toward greater European political consolidation, as

Daniel 2 describes five world empires that will exist and rule the world from the time of Daniel until the Messiah establishes His physical kingdom on earth. Those five world empires are: Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome and finally the Holy Roman Empire represented in its latter stage by the feet of iron mixed with clay (and ten toes representing ten unified kings). That final European-centered power exists when Jesus Christ returns to destroys man’s governmental systems and rule the world.

Revelation 17 adds another crucial detail. Ten kings will eventually “give their power and strength unto the beast” (Revelation 17:13).

The prophetic issue, therefore, is larger than whether Europe spends more on defense.

Can Europe increasingly act as one political power?

France and Germany are now pushing precisely that conversation in foreign affairs. Europe already possesses common institutions regulating trade, monetary policy for the eurozone, technology and other areas. A more centralized foreign-policy apparatus would represent another step toward Europe’s ability to exercise power collectively.

Today’s European Union is not yet the completed prophetic system, but they are well on their way.

Daniel and Revelation tell us to expect Europe to become one of the most consequential centers of political power in the world immediately before the return of Jesus Christ.

That makes Europe’s continuing struggle between national sovereignty and centralized authority one of the most important prophetic stories to watch. In the words of Jesus, “watch and pray” (Matt. 26:41).

A New Meaning to the Term “Antichrist”?

Israel’s election campaign has produced an unusual candidate whose very name is enough to capture the attention of Bible prophecy students.

Yeshua Ben David, whose name can be rendered “Jesus, Son of David,” is running for prime minister of Israel as chairman of a political party called Gan Eden, meaning “Garden of Eden” or “Paradise.” His platform combines politics with striking religious themes. He envisions priestly service in the Temple, views Israel’s Knesset as a type of Sanhedrin and says his party wants to transform Israel into a “paradise.”

To be absolutely clear, we are not suggesting that Yeshua Ben David is the prophesied Antichrist. There is no biblical basis for making that identification.

Nevertheless, the story gives an intriguing new dimension to the word Antichrist. The prefix anti can convey the idea of opposition, but it can also carry the sense of something standing in place of another. The coming Antichrist will not merely oppose Jesus Christ. According to Scripture, he will ultimately exalt himself as a counterfeit object of worship.

Daniel 7 describes the coming Antichrist as a little horn whose “look was more stout than his fellows” (Daniel 7:20). Interestingly, photographs of Ben David show him as a physically large, imposing man among those around him. That is certainly not evidence that he is the Antichrist, and Daniel’s language primarily concerns the little horn’s prominence among the other horns, not simply physical stature. Still, the visual parallel makes an already unusual story even more interesting.

Then there is the name itself.

Here is a man named Yeshua Ben David, “Jesus, Son of David,” seeking Israel’s highest political office while speaking of the Temple, priestly service and national restoration. For students of Bible prophecy, it is difficult to encounter such a combination without recognizing the remarkable irony.

But there is also a major reason this candidate does not fit the prophetic picture we have been given of the Antichrist.

Daniel’s prophecies point toward the final world government arising in connection with the revived Holy Roman Empire.

Daniel 2 portrays the final world empire through the feet of iron and clay, emerging from the historical Holy Roman Empire system and existing when Jesus Christ returns to establish His Kingdom. The Antichrist will ultimately rule through that final global system. Nothing presently known about this Israeli political candidate establishes such a connection.

So this story should not become an exercise in identifying the Antichrist. Instead, it provides a fascinating reminder of how important counterfeit messianic claims and identities become as Bible prophecy moves toward its culmination.

Jesus warned, “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets” (Matthew 24:24).

Paul likewise foretold a coming man of sin who will exalt himself “above all that is called God, or that is worshipped” and ultimately sit in the Temple of God, “shewing himself that he is God” (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4).

There will be counterfeits. But there is only one true Messiah.

The real Jesus Christ is truly the Son of David.

Revelation 22:16 records His declaration: “I am the root and the offspring of David.”

Isaiah 11:1 also prophesied that Christ would come from the lineage of Jesse, while verse 10 describes Him as the “root of Jesse.”

A man may be an offspring of Jesse or David according to his human ancestry. But Jesus Christ is something no ordinary descendant could ever be. He is both the promised descendant and the Root from which the promise ultimately comes.

There is only one Jesus who fulfills the Messianic prophecies. There is only one Savior. There is only one way to the Father.

As Jesus Himself declared in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Global Religious Leaders Push Interfaith Unity

Religious leaders and scholars from around the world gathered in St. Petersburg, Russia, last week calling for stronger cooperation among the world’s religions.

The Second International Religious Summit convened under the theme “Religious, Spiritual and Moral Values in the Modern World.” Participants discussed the role of religion in international security and contemporary global challenges, while representatives of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization argued that interfaith dialogue has become a necessity for protecting societies from division, extremism and hatred.

There is nothing inherently prophetic about religious leaders talking to one another or attempting to prevent violence.

But Bible prophecy reveals that religion will eventually become intertwined with the Antichrist’s global political system.

Revelation 13 introduces a second beast, commonly identified as the False Prophet, who directs the world toward worship of the first Beast.

Revelation 17 likewise portrays an extraordinary relationship between religious and political power immediately before Christ’s return.

This summit is not fulfillment of those prophecies just yet; however, the growing international conviction that religious cooperation should play a role in solving global problems is worth observing. The future religious system will not emerge in a world where religion has disappeared. Scripture indicates precisely the opposite. Religion will possess enormous influence.

The issue for Christians is therefore not cooperation for peace. It is whether cooperation eventually becomes religious consolidation, and whether tolerance ultimately gives way to pressure for conformity.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).

That truth must never be surrendered for the sake of religious unity. Jesus Christ is the ONLY way.

Europe Moves Digital ID Wallets Into Banking

Europe’s digital identity transformation is beginning to move from government pilot programs into everyday life.

Romania has unveiled its first official digital identity wallet, while Albania has adopted legislation establishing a framework for electronic identification. Germany and Italy are advancing their own wallet programs. Perhaps most noteworthy, Moldova’s government-backed EVO wallet has now been integrated with two private banks, allowing customers to verify their identities by scanning a QR code. Officials plan to expand the system from roughly 20 services to 200 next year.

The significance is not that Europe has created the (666) Mark of the Beast, at this point.

Digital identification is not the Mark of the Beast.

Revelation 13:16-17 describes something much more specific. Under the Antichrist, people will eventually be required to receive a mark, without which “no man might buy or sell.”

What makes today’s developments important is the convergence of functions that once existed separately. Identity, government credentials, digital services and now banking can increasingly operate through interconnected digital systems.

Satan rarely throws the whole enchilada at the world; rather, he slowly and methodically offers tiny bite-sized compromises all moving toward the same eventuality of his Orwellian hellish nightmare.

For generations, readers could understand what Revelation said while wondering how such comprehensive economic control could practically be administered. Modern technology is increasingly answering the how.

The biblical question remains the same. Revelation does not merely predict new technology. It predicts who will eventually control access to the economic system and what allegiance will be demanded in return (i.e., the Antichrist and worship of him above all Gods / all who worship him will be lost forever).

Nations Join Multinational Gaza Peace Force

Another nation has formally joined the international effort to implement President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan.

Kosovo signed an agreement Monday to participate in the International Stabilization Force for Gaza, joining Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Albania and Uganda. The UN-mandated multinational force is envisioned as part of the U.S.-Israeli framework for postwar Gaza, with responsibilities including maintaining stability, supporting demilitarization and training Palestinian security forces.

The development is particularly interesting in light of Daniel 9:27, which foretells the confirmation of a covenant “with many” for one prophetic week, understood as seven years.

That covenant will begin the final seven years leading to the return of Jesus Christ.

There is presently no biblical basis for declaring Trump’s Gaza agreement to be the prophesied seven-year covenant. Important prophetic requirements have not yet been established.

What makes this development noteworthy is the increasingly multinational architecture surrounding Middle East peace. We are no longer merely watching negotiations between Israel and one neighboring nation. Multiple countries are becoming directly involved in mechanisms intended to preserve and implement regional agreements.

Daniel specifically says the eventual covenant will involve “many.”

Whether today’s Gaza framework ultimately contributes anything to that future agreement remains unknown. But every time Middle East diplomacy broadens from bilateral negotiations toward multinational arrangements involving Israel, prophecy students should pay attention. Let’s continue to keep an eye on all efforts of peace involving Israel, Gaza, the Palestinians, many nations, agreements that may allow the future building of a third Jewish Temple on the Temple Mount, or a treaty signed specifically for seven years.

UN Agency Advances Unified Global Digital Policy

Representatives from governments, industry, academia, civil society and the technology sector have adopted a series of international policy recommendations intended to help shape the world’s digital future.

More than 500 participants attended the World Telecommunication/ICT Policy Forum in the Bahamas from September 2 through 4. Organized by the International Telecommunication Union, the United Nations agency for digital technologies, the forum addressed global telecommunications infrastructure, artificial intelligence, connectivity, resilience and technological innovation. The resulting recommendations are non-binding (for now), but are intended to help build consensus ahead of the ITU’s highest decision-making conference later this year. This is how it usually begins. First, it is merely a suggestion. Later, comes the demand for compliance.

The development is significant from a prophecy perspective because Revelation 13 describes an eventual government possessing extraordinary international authority.

Revelation 13:7 says power is given to the Beast “over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.”

Global technologies increasingly create problems that governments believe require global solutions. That naturally produces demands for greater international coordination.

Bible prophecy tells us that political authority will eventually become consolidated on an unprecedented scale.

As international organizations develop mechanisms for coordinating policies affecting technology, communications, commerce and everyday life across national borders, prophecy students have good reason to watch where that trajectory ultimately leads. All roads seem to lead toward Rome, but is Rome (or the Holy Roman Empire) where we really want to go? Not according to Scripture.
