Marc Oakland was cleaning a pond in Hampshire when he stumbled the head of a Dalek…the famous enemy of the UK’s Doctor Who television series. To me, this proves one of two things…either this is a leftover prop from the show that gone thrown in the swamp, or the Daleks really do exist and this is one that got lost and died in the swamp. I vote for the latter…which makes me scared, really scared.

So, the mafia, Cosa Nostra, in Sicily has long been getting money by bidding (and winning by cheating) on contracts for public works. Back in 2003, a proposal came up for a wind farm to be constructed on the island. Members of Cosa Nostra bribed officials with luxury cars, thousands of euros as well as breaking in to see a rival’s bid so they can counter it which all led to the eventual arrest of eight men. The businessman heading all this up had ties to Matteo Messina Denaro, one of the top bosses for the mafia.

Does this sound reminiscent of “The Sopranos” with the construction company? Maybe? That’s where they got all their ideas!

Who knew that the green power that Italy would have received would have been tied to their very own mafia that “protects” them?

Shakeel Avadhany, the Project Leader, is a senior student in Materials Science at MIT. He and his team have created a shock absorber that can generate electricity from driving over bumps. This enery created is enough to power the alternator in a truck, thereby decreasing the drain on the battery and increasing the fuel efficiency by up to 10%. They seem to have thought of most every angle, including what should happen if the system failed. If that is the case, the shock absorber would go back to being a normal shock.

Right now, the tests have proved all of this based on large vehicles. The first official production will be done for the military, to increase the efficiency of Hummers out in the field.

Shakeel has created his own company looking into this, called Levant Power Corp., and by this summer they will be releasing their first fine tuned version ready for release this summer. Talks will then begin with Wal-Mart, for starters, in which the estimates they could save Wal-Mart up to $13 million a year in fuel costs.

So, you ever been to a restaurant, and you just hated it SO much? Well, if so, and you want to call down the health inspectors, try flying this remote controlled thing around in a crowded restaurant and see what happens. Granted, it would be much more convincing if it was just on the ground with wheels, but this could be just as interesting. And given that the size of the cockroach is bordering on 6″ long, it doesn’t lend a hand to believability. Maybe choose a restaurant near Lake Norman’s McGuire Nuclear Station…we can say it’s a mutant cockroach! Any way you look at it, it could be a fun toy to mess around with if you have a spare $60 laying around.

So it appears that our wonderful leaders in North Carolina are scrounging around to find money anywhere they can find it. Their thought…let’s tax all the internet users! A group of politicians is studying whether to apply a sales tax to digital downloads over the internet. This includes such websites as eBay, iTunes, Amazon and even the PlayStation network (PSN).

With all the economic problems we are having, a lot of people are resorting to entertainment to forget about their troubles. With games costing around $60, music costing about a $1 a song, we as consumers are already feeling the crunch. Taxing on top of that is like a virtual slap on the face.

I could really go on and on and on, but I would like to stop my rant before I say something not family friendly. I just wish politicians could get a grip on what their “people” they represent really want.
