The idea that reflection is as much looking at the present and planning for the future as it is thinking about the past. By taking the time to reflect on where we are, we can better see where it is we want to be. Reflection is often about evaluating the now against the then. By reflecting on where we were, we can easily see if we have grown beyond. That, perhaps, all of these tweets, status updates, etc. are opportunities for such reflection.

In this episode, I talk to Myke about my training and running regimen as of late. Ive been training for something really kind of crazy. Perhaps the hardest physical test of my life. It should surprise no one that I try to take an “enough” approach to this as well. No fancy gym memberships for me. No fancy diet. I have been trying to fit it into my life wherever I can and take a balanced approach to my eating.

In this episode, Myke and I discuss another one of my crazy ideas that I have, despite my reservations when recording this episode, decided to set into motion). I’m dubbing it Occupy Tumblr. Here the deal, I love Tumblr. I use Tumblr. I fear for Tumblr. You see, they have no discernible business model. They have taken mountains of VC investment money. I think they should allow a way for me, and others that use the service, to pay. I think they should take our money instead. So, I’m done waiting for them to come up with a plan for this. I’m going to send them a ten dollar bill, every month, with a note, asking them to consider letting me pay at least this much or more to equal the value I get from the service. I’m inviting others, who I’m calling The 1% – that being 1% of Tumblr’s 36 million blogs, to join me. I personally think three hundred thousand people each sending a ten dollar bill might let them know they don’t need VC money to survive they need us.

In this episode iMyke and I discuss my idea that money is nothing more than a construct to facilitate conversations about promises, agreements, and trust. Money, itself, does not have any real value. Not even the paper it is printed on has value unless everyone agrees it has value. The moment we stop having such agreements – stop trusting each other – the construct breaks apart.

It’s a deep discussion to be sure.

Yet, one should also seek out what news should really be: Journalism with scrutiny, thoughtful opinion, and balanced analysis of what it means and how it affects us.

In this latest installment, I tell Myke about my favorite thing to eat for lunch – French Lunch.

It’s pretty easy actually. Just a good fresh crusty baguette, creamy style cheese like Brie (and occasionally also something a bit more firm and nutty like Manchego depending on my mood), and a bunch of good organic red grapes. It’s very simple, requires nothing but a knife, and no prep. Just take it out, plate it and eat it.

That said, I find a lesson here which is that the simplicity actually helps to reveal the best of each flavor as long as you maintain the quality. This works for things beyond food.
