Why I watch the Academy Awards

I don't think the Academy Awards show is boring. I don't care if young people don't watch it. I don't think raunchfests like "Bridesmaids," which I liked, should be nominated for best picture just because they appeal to younger viewers. I like production numbers like the Cirque du Soleil spectacle. I like to see real movie stars like George Clooney and Julia Roberts , not no-talents like Adam Sandler and self-promoters like Jennifer Lopez . I care very little about fashion and even less about fashion commentators.

In its Feb. 24 issue, Entertainment Weekly has a sequel to its 2011 list of the most overrated best-picture Oscar winners, this time choosing "How Green Was My Valley," "My Fair Lady," "A Man for All Seasons,""Gandhi,""Out of Africa," "The Last Emperor," "Shakespeare in Love" and"The King's Speech."I'd agree with all but the last two. I always add a few of my own to such lists:"Forrest Gump,""The English Patient,""Rain Man."
