Even if you have really big traffic on your site it does not mean that you will get tons of clicks to your ads (google adsense or any other). You may believe me or not but there are a few ways you may increase clicks to your ads without breaking any ad program rules… Some people just put ads anywhere on their site and are waiting for a huge revenue. But it does not work this way. You need to know what are you doing or you will have to learn it from your own mistakes and loose a lot of time.

I. Optimize you ads.

Some time ago google have posted on their blog a nice article about optimal ads placement. Below is picture that was posted on their site:

But you must know that there is no such thing as best place for any ad on any blog! Treat your visitors the way that you want to be treated. If you are too offensive they will close web browser before read any content and of course you will get no clicks to your ads! You have to experiment with multiple ad formats and locations to see what works best with your web site traffic.

There are a few rules you should follow:

Make sure that your ads fit subject you write about.
Choose a bold color for title of the ad to make it seen by your readers.
Remember that too flashy ads are ignored by most users – make them fit your website.
Put your ads in places that most readers will stop reading for a while (after some great idea, conclusion). Places they want think or test this what you have written.
Choose one of the strategies described below to make your content work for you.

II. Make your content work for you!

There are a few strategies to follow when you are writing content for you blog. Some may sound little funny and some are harder to use but it really works! You may choose other strategy for each of your next three posts and test what makes your visitors clicking most ads.

Strategy No 1 – the hardest one

Make your content so informative and interesting that it would change life of your visitors (or at last give solution to problem they want to resolve). If they love your article so much, most of them will want to say thank you. Some of them will write stupid comments “thanks”, “great article”, “I love you…” etc. that bring nothing interesting to subject of your post and won’t let you earn a buck… But some smarter ones know what the ads are for and would click them for saying: “thanks – great content, you should make living of writing such a great posts!”…

Strategy No 2 – not as hard

Check what interesting people are talking about on social networking websites. Write short interesting articles about it. But don’t put to much information in it! Write only some brief most interesting facts and make people say “Hey… what an interesting subject… but I want to know more…”. Make sure that your ads fit topics you write about. People will click to find more information. In this strategy you can’t put any links to additional resources or people will choose to click it instead of your ads.

Strategy No 3 – probably the easiest one…

Make very interesting titles for your articles. But make content as boring as possible. Make them long and hard to read. Do not format it, do not use lists, paragraphs. Make people scream “Let me out of here!!!”. They will want to leave your site as soon as possible. Unfortunately some of them will close web browser with your site and will want to immediately forget about your article but… some of really bored visitors will click anything they see to leave your site and run away, the farer the better. If you will have some luck they would click your ads and you will get your revenue…

Third one may sound like a joke but I have used to visit a few blogs in my life that are using it! It really made me click the ad to find anything that may be more interesting that visited blog! Let me know what is working best for you and good luck with using it on your blog!

Here are some general rules -

Some websites ask minimum size of photo as 1 MB but some may ask even 4 MB.
You must take all the photographs at best quality with maximum focus.

What is Google Adsense?

When you go online and visit a website, you might have noticed ads showing in between the web page you’re reading. Those ads are nothing but Google Adsense ads. It is also known as contextual advertising. Check the image below for demo of AdSense ads on websites -

Now, before we move on, I should clarify meaning of certain terms that would be used again and again in this guide.

Publishers – Publishers are bloggers or website owners who create content where Google allows them to show various ads on behalf of advertisers.

Advertisers – As I pointed-out in my previous paragraph advertisers are individuals who pay an amount to Google for showing their ads on publisher’s blog or website.

In other words, you can say publishers are thousands of bloggers & web-owners who create content for money and advertisers are those business owners who want to sell or advertise their products using publisher’s blog.

Relation between Google Adwords and Google Adsense

In order to get an inner understanding of Google Adsense program we need to know Google Adwords program. A new term has been introduced here, Google Adwords.

Now, what is Google Adwords?

Google Adwords and Google Adsense are basically two sides of same coin.

By reading above paragraph you might have got some understanding of Adsense program. So, here we shall only discuss Adwords program.

Google Inc generates its 90% of the revenue from Google Adwords. All the large, medium and small size businessowners would like to sell their products to customers around the world.

In order to reach targeted customers in quick time these business owners make use of Adwords program. Here, they pay Google to show their ads on either search result page or on the content of a blog (Adsense).

Therefore, Google Inc totally runs only on the money paid by these business owners.

In coming paragraph, we shall discuss about Adsense program.

It is only by reading next paragraph you’ll get a clear idea how Adwords and Adsense programs are intertwined with each other.

I will talk little bit about Adwords ads. They are of two types; one is shown on right hand side of the search engine result. You might have noticed whenever you search something; a column of ads would appear on right side of the screen. Those are Adwords ads, business owners pay Google for showing those ads.

How Google Adsense Works?

Well! It is very simple. As I explained in last paragraph, business owners would pay Google for showing ads on publisher’s website.

Google Adsense is a program designed only for bloggers & site owners, unlike Adwords which is for business owners.

Now a publisher (normally called blogger) has to apply Google for Adsense approval. If he is approved then Google would allow him to show ads on his website.

Whenever, people or visitors comes to the publisher’s website in search of good content and they click on Adsense ad then Google pays money for every Click to the publisher.

Google pays publishers from the money that it is getting from advertisers. Advertisers pay Google for each click. The money paid by Google to publishers is 68% of what advertisers pay them and rest 32% Google takes away as commission.

To put it in simple way, if an advertiser pays Rs 100 to Google for one click on Adsense Ads by an online visitor then Google gives Rs 68 to the owner of the website on which ads are showing (publishers) and remaining Rs 32 Google takes away.

Thus, Google takes money from advertisers and gives large chunk of it to publishers and remaining keeps with itself.

Hence, it would be clear now, how Adwords and Adsense program are interlinked with each other.

Let us look at various ways of showing Adsense ads on a website:

Adsense for Content: Nothing but contextual advertisement
Adsense of Feeds: Ads will show up on feeds
Adsense of Search: Ads will come on search
Adsense for Domain: Place advertisements on domain names
Adsense of Video: Ads on YouTube Videos

Some terminologies that are commonly used in Google Adsense are:

CPC: Cost Per Click – The amount that publishers gets when visitors clicks on the Ads. It could be from 10 cents to $2 or even more.
CTR: Click Through Rate – How many visitors click on those ads. If 100 people came to your site and only one of them clicks then CTR is 1%, if 2 clicks then CTR 3%, if 3 clicks then 4%.
Views: Total number of impression blogger receives for his blog.
Visitors: How many people came to your blog.

I would only like to add that Google wants good content from publishers.

Coming to Advertisers, there is no eligibility for advertisers to use Adwords programs. Only thing they need is money to bid for keywords on daily basis. Google would show ads on the top depending upon the amount of money you are ready to pay Google. Compared to other advertisers if you pay more then Google would show your ads on the top.

So the eligibility is how much you can pay to Google.

Yes, there is a difference being publisher in India compared to USA. The first difference is the profit margins. In USA, publishers make 2 to 3 times more income than a publisher in India.

The cost per click (CPC) in USA is 4 times more than in India. For a click in USA you get $1 and in India a blogger gets only 20 cents. So blogger in USA makes more money even though the traffic or visitors coming to there blog is less than traffic coming in India.

Lack of Transparency from the Side of Google

We discussed good things about Google Adsense. But there is a flipside of this program. You could say a doubt that arises in every publisher’s mind.

Although Google openly declares that it gives 68% to publishers of what advertisers pay them and takes 32%. But Google do not tell how much advertiser is actually paying them for a Click.

Publishers really do not know how much advertisers actually paid to Google.

Google could be paying publishers less because it does not declares the money paid by advertisers.

For example, an advertiser is paying $5 for a Click to Google, so with an honest intention Google should pay $3.40 for a click to publisher and take only $1.60 with itself.

But it can happen that Google only pay less than $3.40 say $2.00 to publishers, hence taking away another $1.40.

The reason for this suspicion is because Google does not declare that advertiser actually paid it $5.

Therefore, this lack of transparency gives rise to suspicion. This could be flipside of Adsense program.

Abuse of Google Adsense

There are frivolous bloggers who abuse Adsense program from around the world. Out of shear greed they start clicking on their own ads.

It is so naïve to even think that a blogger could make money by clicking his ads. Google will come to know the blogger and terminate his Adsense account forever.

Google is very strict when it comes to showing ads. Publishers can only show 3 ads on their page. If they try to click on those ads or telling others to click then Google will consider it illegal and terminate your account permanently.

Using software and tailored content to show Adsense ads is also banned by Google but frivolous bloggers use such tricks and end up on the wrong side.

Criticism of Google Adsense

Google is criticized by many publishers from Asia for not paying them as much as it pays to publishers in USA.

Then bloggers criticized Google for banning their account for no specific reason.

Sometimes Google terminates their account without paying the threshold income of $100.

Google is also criticized for showing sexually explicit ads on websites.

But the most genuine criticism of Google Adsense is the lack of transparency that we discussed in last-to-last paragraph.

According to me, future of Adsense is great in USA and outside USA. As internet is growing more and more people are joining it. They are in search of good content that they could read.

Hence Adsense program will ensure that publishers create quality content because they would get right remuneration.

Moreover, Google’s revenue totally depends upon advertisers and to make them happy, Google needs to show their contextual ads on good content. So Google needs Adsense platform in order to do that.

"Late last year, two young men decided to
live a month of their lives on the income of
an average poor Indian. One of them, Tushar,
the son of a police officer in Haryana, studied
at the University of Pennsylvania and worked
for three years as an investment banker in
the US and Singapore. The other, Matt,
migrated as a teenager to the States with his
parents, and studied in MIT. Both decided at
different points to return to India, joined the
UID Project in Bengaluru, came to share a
flat, and became close friends.
The idea suddenly struck them one day. Both
had returned to India in the vague hope that
they could be of use to their country. But
they knew the people of this land so little.
Tushar suggested one evening — “Let us try
to understand an ‘average Indian', by living on
an ‘average income'.” His friend Matt was
immediately captured by the idea. They
began a journey which would change them
forever.
To begin with, what was the average income
of an Indian? They calculated that India's
Mean National Income was Rs. 4,500 a month,
or Rs. 150 a day. Globally people spend about
a third of their incomes on rent. Excluding
rent, they decided to spend Rs. 100 each a
day. They realised that this did not make
them poor, only average. Seventy-five per
cent Indians live on less than this average.
The young men moved into the tiny
apartment of their domestic help, much to
her bemusement. What changed for them
was that they spent a large part of their day
planning and organising their food. Eating out
was out of the question; even dhabas were
too expensive. Milk and yoghurt were
expensive and therefore used sparingly, meat
was out of bounds, as were processed food
like bread. No ghee or butter, only a little
refined oil. Both are passionate cooks with
healthy appetites. They found soy nuggets a
wonder food — affordable and high on
proteins, and worked on many recipes. Parle
G biscuits again were cheap: 25 paise for 27
calories! They innovated a dessert of fried
banana on biscuits. It was their treat each day.
Living on Rs.100 made the circle of their life
much smaller. They found that they could not
afford to travel by bus more than five km in a
day. If they needed to go further, they could
only walk. They could afford electricity only
five or six hours a day, therefore sparingly
used lights and fans. They needed also to
charge their mobiles and computers. One
Lifebuoy soap cut into two. They passed by
shops, gazing at things they could not buy.
They could not afford the movies, and hoped
they would not fall ill.
However, the bigger challenge remained.
Could they live on Rs. 32, the official poverty
line, which had become controversial after
India's Planning Commission informed the
Supreme Court that this was the poverty line
for cities (for villages it was even lower, at Rs.
26 per person per day)?
For this, they decided to go to Matt's ancestral
village Karucachal in Kerala, and live on Rs.
26. They ate parboiled rice, a tuber and
banana and drank black tea: a balanced diet
was impossible on the Rs. 18 a day which
their briefly adopted ‘poverty' permitted.
They found themselves thinking of food the
whole day. They walked long distances, and
saved money even on soap to wash their
clothes. They could not afford
communication, by mobile and internet. It
would have been a disaster if they fell ill. For
the two 26-year-olds, the experience of
‘official poverty' was harrowing.
Yet, when their experiment ended with
Deepavali, they wrote to their friends: “Wish
we could tell you that we are happy to have
our ‘normal' lives back. Wish we could say that
our sumptuous celebratory feast two nights
ago was as satisfying as we had been hoping
for throughout our experiment. It probably
was one of the best meals we've ever had,
packed with massive amounts of love from
our hosts. However, each bite was a sad
reminder of the harsh reality that there are
400 million people in our country for whom
such a meal will remain a dream for quite
some time. That we can move on to our
comfortable life, but they remain in the
battlefield of survival — a life of tough
choices and tall constraints. A life where
freedom means little and hunger is plenty...
It disturbs us to spend money on most of the
things that we now consider excesses. Do we
really need that hair product or that branded
cologne? Is dining out at expensive
restaurants necessary for a happy weekend?
At a larger level, do we deserve all the riches
we have around us? Is it just plain luck that
we were born into circumstances that allowed
us to build a life of comfort? What makes the
other half any less deserving of many of
these material possessions, (which many of us
consider essential) or, more importantly,
tools for self-development (education) or
self-preservation (healthcare)?
We don't know the answers to these
questions. But we do know the feeling of guilt
that is with us now. Guilt that is compounded
by the love and generosity we got from
people who live on the other side, despite
their tough lives. We may have treated them
as strangers all our lives, but they surely
didn't treat us as that way...”

hunger can make you angry. That a food law
which guarantees adequate nutrition to all is
essential. That poverty does not allow you to
realise even modest dreams. And above all —

The world's most popular video site announces that it's been nothing but a contest site this whole time and says it's shutting down for the next decade.

Google also unveiled some of its pranks on Sunday, which include launching a scent-based search engine-Google Nose and a treasure map layer on Google Maps among other fake announcements.

The biggest of all has to be the YouTube announcement that indicates that the product has been nothing but a contest to find the best video, and the 8-year-long submission period is finally closing tonight.

The company teamed up with The Onion to create a YouTube-star-studded video explaining how the site was set up as part of a contest to find the best home video on the Internet.

"I encourage everybody to watch as many videos as possible before YouTube deletes everything tonight," Antoine Dodson, a popular internet celebrity warns.

The video is elaborate with many Youtube sensations like Matt Harding and the kids from "Charlie Bit My Finger" featuring in it.

"We are so close to the end," Tom Liston, communications director at YouTube, said in the video.

"Tonight at midnight, YouTube.com will no longer be accepting entries," he added.

The video also mentioned that the site will be reviewed by a panel of judges and it will take 10 years to watch them all. The winner will be announced in 2023, when the site finally comes back online.

This was a possible brainchild of Google after seeing the reaction Google Readercaused when its retirement was announced.
