Excel Category 6_A - Augmented Category 6 – cables, and associated connectors, take the performance capabilities of copper infrastructure to new levels. The cable has been designed to exceed the ISO/IEC, TIA and CENELEC for Category 6_A/Augmented Category 6 component requirements. This delivers Class E_A/Augmented Category 6 link performance over distances of up 90 metres which supports the applications including 10GBASE-T, 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

Each cable consists of two sets of two pairs are wrapped together in an “S” configuration with high quality, strong, aluminium/polyester foil tape providing screening for each pair. The “S” Foil configuration ensures separation of the pairs that ensures the performance.  These are then wrapped in another, overall foil. By using two sets of two pairs has resulted in a reduced diameter and weight cable. The smaller cable diameter has reduced the cable cross-sectional area by 19.7%. This design change has been instigated to benefit the installer and end user in many direct and indirect ways.  Reducing the size and weight means the cable occupies less space in the containment which in turn improves airflow in under floor installations. Less weight means that the containment can be of lighter construction. It also means that handling the cable on site is easier.  Smaller diameter cable means that there is waste packaging to dispose of. The individual pairs are set to different lay lengths to ensure optimum performance.

Excel Category 6_A cables are jacketed in an Ice Blue low smoke zero halogen (LSOH) compound compliant with flame retardant standards as defined in IEC 60332-1, and smoke emission standards IEC61034. Supplied on 500 metre plywood drums, each cable has a print legend identifying the specification, part code and sequential metre marking which counts down from 500 metres to 1 metre, on each drum to reduce waste.

March 2012, Excel Networking Solutions, the copper and optical cabling infrastructure provider, has launched two new Patch Panels to its already extensive range. The new products include the Excel 24 Port 0.5U Keystone Patch Panel and the Excel 24 Port 1U Keystone V Patch Panel

The Excel 24 Port 0.5U Keystone Patch Panel delivers a high density offering with the benefit of a single row of keystone jacks. The single row of jacks means that the installation is straight forward and allows an individual jack to be removed if required. As the panel is only 0.5U in height it allows, by using two panels together, the ability to present 48 keystone jacks in 1U of rack space. Using two 0.5U panels ensures that the jacks are all aligned the correct way up. Most
48 Port 1U panels require the bottom row of jacks to be mounted upside down.
The panel is supplied with a cable management bar and an earthing kit as standard.

The Excel 24 Port 1U Keystone V Patch Panel allows standard Excel keystone jacks to be presented in an angled patch panel configuration. The patch panel is designed to accept all of the Excel unscreened and screened standard keystone jacks from the Category 5e, 6 & 6A portfolios. This panel includes a rear cable manager to allow the cable to be dressed into the panel neatly and securely. The V shape of the panel presents the jacks at an angle to the front of the cabinet that reduces the strain on the jack that results from the patch lead. The patch lead is naturally routed to the cabinet/frame cable management reducing the requirement for rack mounted cable management bars. Earth bonding leads are supplied fitted to enable grounding if required.

1st March 2012, Excel Networking Solutions, the copper and optical cabling infrastructure provider, has launched a new multi-language blog to provide its customers with an additional source of useful information on relevant topics and updates on the Excel solution.

The main contributors to the blog will be Paul Cave, Excel Technical Manager and Simon Robinson, Excel Product Manager. Both have extensive experience in the industry, are BICSI RCDD accredited, amongst other industry qualifications and sit on various Standards Committees and BSI Expert Panels.

Commenting on the Blog, Tracey Calcutt, Marketing Manager said ‘The Excel blog provides Paul, Simon and I with an informal platform to share with customers, consultants and end users our thoughts and advice on product updates, standards, installation tips plus anything else industry related that we feel strongly about. • Excel 24 Port 1U Keystone V Patch Panel

Excel Networking Solutions, the award winning copper and optical cabling infrastructure provider, has expanded its Category 6A screened solution with the introduction of a re-engineered low profile version of its already popular keystone toolless jack.

The brief to designers was to provide a low profile connector offering integrators a quick and easy way to terminate product, combined with excellent performance, and the smallest depth in the market. The result is a product which quite simply sets new standards on all fronts.

As the saying goes, size matters, taking on board challenges being experienced by many system designers and installation engineers, the new Excel jack comes in at just 28.3mm deep, some 10% shallower than its closest rival depth wise.

The overall dimensions of the jack are 16.2mm wide x 28.3mm deep x 21.5mm high.

This reduced depth, together with the strain relief feature, built into the butterfly termination clamp, allows for entry from top, rear, sides and below.

In addition all of the great features of the Excel Category 6A Screened Toolless Jack, including the high quality die cast housing, 360 degree screening and butterfly opening, remain as part the product design.

A standard requirement of any Excel Category 6A product is third party verification, we only work to the most stringent standard. Our new low profile jack is no exception, designed, manufactured, and verified by Delta to the Augmented Category 6/Class EA specifications as defined in ISO 11801 2nd edition amend 1 and ANSI/TIA-568-C.2 this jack offers performance way above published standards, right down to 5 metre lengths when installed with Excel Category 6A screened cables.

Excel believe this jack which will set new benchmarks in the market for size – it is the smallest on the market, for flexibility – multiple entry and reduced depth for ease of install, and for performance – third party verified to ISO 11801 2nd edition with incredible performance in the field over even the shortest of runs.

Commenting on the new module Simon Robinson, Excel Product Manager said “We have listened to customer feedback and the market requirements and taken our highly popular Excel 6A Screened Toolless Jack and reduced the depth, without compromising on the performance, to allow even greater ease of installation, particularly into confined spaces such as shallow back boxes, floor boxes and anywhere that space is an issue, such as data centre environments”.

The new Excel Category 6A Screened Toolless Jack (P/N 100-181) is compatible with a range of standard and angled shutters and faceplates, and with patch frames with either 16 or 24 port density available in black or chrome. These products will be available from stock from 27th June 2011.

As an addition to the range, the current standard depth, and angled Excel Category 6A keystone jacks will continue to be available.

The toggle stripper removes the outer sheath of cables with an outside diameter of upto 11mm by simply rotating the tool in 360° around the cable.
