Of course in the UK firecrackers are not legal for sale to the general public. If they were they would probably be the most popular form of firework going.

The idea with a roll of firecrackers is to roll them out. The clue is in the name. These guys or “hillbillies” to give them there proper name, decided to tape the roll together, thus reducing the overall duration and giving a more spectacular spectacle.

Another new release for the 2010 silly season, the Gunpowder, Treason & Plot is certain to be a favourite amongst our regular customers, with a long duration ( about 1.20) and some brilliant effects. Epic Fireworks, the UK’s home of fireworks is proud to present another new release for 2010. The Gunpowder, Treason & Plot barrage is a great value long lasting display in a box that has some brilliant effects. This might be known to some of you as the Jabberwocky by Brothers Pyrotechnics. Jabberwocky was a very popular barrage, famed for its large comet tails at the start and busy but long lasting effects.

Starting with coloured comets with silver tiger tails that rise slowly and gracefully, this turns into small silver spinners before the fanned section with bursts of orange peonies to glittering stars. A series of overlapping chrysanthemums of red then green lead into spinning silver tails to red glittering strobes and another fanned section of silver glittering tails to silver strobing stars and ending with large red peonies.

The Gunpowder, Treason & Plot barrage offers great value, great duration and a great vertical and fanned performance; a great addition to any display.

Continuing our series on Sparkler Art, here we see the number eight, a symbol of good luck in China. 8 represents good luck, much like our lucky number 7 here in the UK.

This is well illustrated with the 888 barrage from Brothers Pyrotechnics. Three 8’s make it especially lucky.

Earth Shaker by Epic Fireworks delivers high decibel action from start to finish and lasts a whopping 2 minutes! That makes this one of our longest duration barrages. With 72 massive shots delivering very loud bangs, whistles, hummers, huge red peonies, crackling comets, silver strobing stars and a HUGE multi shot finale of a giant cloud of crackling stars. This is going to upset the neighbours, guaranteed.

The city of Tultepec in Mexico has a very unusual way of celebrating their favourite saint. They strap a whole load of rockets and fireworks to large wooden bulls and the brave young men of the city dance around them as the rockets fly all over the place!

Tultepec is the Mexico’s home of fireworks, with more fireworks makers there than you can shake a rocket stick at with about 80% of the country’s fireworks produced there since the 18^th century. San Juan de Dios is the patron saint of firework makers and a week long national pyrotechnic fair commemorates him. He is famed for rescuing patients from a burning hospital. Nowadays firework manufacturers pray to San Juan to protect their workshops and keep them safe from fire. The annual pyrotechnic fair was started in 1989 to safeguard the rich history and promote the skills of the pyrotechnicians of Mexico.

Firework “Castillo’s” or castles are fashioned in the shape of bulls and other animals in light wood. These are then covered with paper and decorated and painted. They are completely covered in fireworks and rockets and the young daredevils (madmen) jump around them and shout FIRE! FIRE! As they wear only hoods and thick jumpers to protect themselves. The bravest men will stand next to the bulls for as long as they can, it is a matter of pride to stand right next to the exploding structures. Needless to say there are often injuries and minor burns are very common serious burns, sadly are also rather common.

It’s a bit ironic that to honour the saint who saved patients from his hospital, saved them from burning, the locals burn themselves. Surely San Juan de Dios did not like people burning? Or else he would not have saved them? This is the way of traditions however and logic is not always required.

The Merlin Entertainments London Eye will light up the South Bank tonight (9 March) with an extravagant fireworks show to celebrate its tenth birthday.

From 7pm, visitors will enjoy an impressive light show, with those booking a flight receiving a free glass of Pommery champagne.

“Everyone at the London Eye is thrilled to be celebrating this important landmark with our visitors, who have been so important along the way, and we can’t wait to see it all come to life on the day,” said David Sharpe, managing director of the London Eye and divisional director of London Midway Attractions.

The Merlin Entertainments London Eye has welcomed more than 36 million visitors over the past nine years.

Every year in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, a stunning and beautiful festival takes place where thousands upon thousands of lanterns of all shapes sizes and colours are displayed to amaze visitors from all around the world.

The festival has just ended, taking place between the 20^th Feb and 7^th March in 2010.

We have some great photos of lanterns and a beautiful video showing the water-dance show with, you guessed it, fireworks!

The festival takes place by the banks of the Love River and with many events and entertainment for the visitors to Kaohsiung, including competitions, artworks, lantern making lessons, local riddle contests and exotic lantern exhibitions.

Kaohsiung City has been praised for its use of environmentally friendly LED lights and recyclable material in lanterns during the festival. Red lanterns with a green heart, we like it.
