The time past so fast, it's the final week of our blog. If you missed our posts or followed us quite lately, worries no more, I will do a conclusion of information regarding Internet Piracy. Internet Piracy means used a certain data or media files that have already created or owned by someone without any permission from the owner for their own purposes. These purposes can be related to services such as released those copyrighted products like musics, movies, softwares or games on website that available for their users to download. These are Internet Piracy.

Side effects of Internet Piracy are far more crueler than they think, for each song that illegally downloaded by the user in United States American, can be charged up to $150,000 or even face a jail time if you found out for illegally download, burning, copying, selling or even owning some pirated products, that's a very heavy punishment for a home user. Not only those law will take action regarding illegally download, your computer will be damaged too if you downloaded those pirated products that mostly contain of viruses. Some viruses may cause your computer lost data and some important personal data might be gone.

Reason on why still some other home users willing to risk their computer for internet piracy ?? Simple, because it's free of charge. The users don't have to go to cinema that will wasted their travel time and money. Another reason is that they don't have to buy the whole original CD just for only 1 song that they wanted. Usually they only wanted a song that is nice and they just have to illegally download via some websites or stream websites. When you downloading from website, you can waste no time for doing other activities too.

There are reasons, causes, of course there are solutions. Ways to prevent are easy steps as well. You can visit some of the websites that have already been declared as legal websites for some files that you might wanted to download. We posted some useful websites such as for movie's and music's before, you can visit them any time. You must make sure you are legally download as well. You can asked the website holders for more information that regarding the sources of the files and statements that they have already obtained the copyrighted content from the owner. Be careful when you uploading as well, you must know whether have you infringement the copyright or not.

As a conclusion, we have already provided many information and news regarding internet piracy. Good or bad, decision is always on our hand. But, I must remind you first, download at your own risk !

Not long ago , Baidu has been listed in the US Trade Representative’s notorious list of counterfeiting and piracy for both physical and online markets.

This time , Baidu is taking action to remove millions of document from it online library platform that contain any related to piracy.

According to spokesman Kaiser Kuo, Baidu evaluated about 2.8 million files and deleting most of the file.Baidu continues to find and delete files that contain violent the piracy right.

Baidu Library or know as Baidu Wenku in chinese, is a service allowing user to upload a file or document to share them.In mid-March , the site has more than 20million document but now has fallen to 16.5million after Baidu start delete file that violent piracy right.

[News] Internet Service Providers discuss on central blacklist body for piracy sites !

On 1st April 2011, broadband firms and copyright holders discussed the creation of a new independent authority to manage a blacklist of music and firm piracy websites.

Major ISPs will filter their internet access against those blacklisted piracy sites that have been suggested by some copyright holders such the Pirate Bay, BitTorrent trackers and advertising-supported download sites under this blacklist project. They are typically hosted in those countries that United Kingdom's copyright law cannot be used to shut them down.

According to sources, no details of the potential funding or structure of such a body have been agreed, but broadband providers are firm that independent checks on some complains such as from music and firm industries that would not have to make multiple complains, which would be essential for a self-regulatory approach to online copyright enforcement to work.

Their discussions with copyright holders on websites blocking are part of broader talks organized by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport to encourage a rapprochement between the two after years of mutual distrust. As well as agreement on enforcement, their government has said it wants the industries to work together on new, licensed music and film services.

On the idea of an independent blacklisting body, executive director of the Open Rights Group, Jim Killock said: "On the face of it, I find it hard to imagine how it would resolve complaints or who would take liability when things go wrong."

Digital Economy Act meant to allow the government to force broadband providers to block piracy websites. The Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, ordered the review in February, stating “it is not clear whether the site-blocking provisions in the Act could work in practice”.

However, reports from last week said that voluntary website blocking was being encouraged as a "Plan B" measure. A DCMS spokesman declined to comment on the claim.

According to latest research from NPD Group, United State is declining and decreasing Internet Piracy.

Internet population of United State for using a P2P file-sharing service to download music was about 28million users, which also calculated as 16% at the end of 2007 has now decreased to 16million users, which is 9% at the end of 2010. Before 2011, LimeWire was forced to shut down its file-sharing service.

Between those 2 periods, the average number of music files downloaded from P2P network is also dropped from 35 tracks per person to 18 tracks per person.

56% of LimeWire users used only their P2P services to download musics; but after this service was forced to shut down, percentage has dropped to 32%. But other websites such as Frostwire has 10% increased for their file-sharing musics via P2P at the end of 2010. On the other hand, Bittorrent too, increased its users from 8% to 12% on the same period. NPD says whether LimeWire's shutdown has had a great effect on the number of illegal music downloads or no, it is not yet clear.

Observers from an entertainment industry for NPD, Russ Crupnick said: "LimeWire was so popular for music file trading, and for so long, that its closure has had a powerful and immediate effect on the number of people downloading music files from peer-to-peer services and curtailed the amount being swapped." "In the past, we’ve noted that hard-core peer-to-peer users would quickly move to other websites that offered illegal music file sharing. It will be interesting to see if services like Frostwire and Bittorrent take up the slack left by LimeWire, or if peer-to-peer music downloaders instead move on to other modes of acquiring or listening to music," he added.

These survey is based on NPD's data in January of 2011 and 5549 of U.S internet users that ages 13 and older.

Customers are being introduced to new, more convenient and more profitable for the music industry of methods of obtaining music legally, such as iTunes, a download store; Pandora and Spotify, an ad-supported streaming sites; Rhapsody and MOG, subscription services for users; Hulu and VEVO, which are video channels; TDC in Denmark, Sky in the United Kingdom, bundles of broadband services; last, Nokia and Sony Ericcson which used mobile phone handsets. According to IFPI, all of this has translated into significant revenue — $4.2 billion in 2009, although it is still not enough to compensate for the sharp falloff of physical format sales in recent years.

When we shared about there are some ways to download music legally, of course there are some ways for movies as well.

A good efficient way to download movies is through a digital copy. Digital copy means a movie that stored inside a DVD format is also will be stored in a computer-friendly compressed digital format too. These digital formats can only be accessed if a DVD is put into a computer and with a special one-time use key is entered. The file will be downloaded into computer and can be watched by using the computer. Portable devices such as iPod can download these files as well.

Secondly, you can rent a movie from some website as well. Some websites will provide some rent-able movies for their users. PlayStation Network and Xbox Live too, provide some similar rental services to their users.

Other than that, you can search for open source movies that are usually available for anyone to download. Some websites provide these open source movies and most of them are interesting movies.

Besides, buy movies online through authorized vendors and dealers. There are some people suggested that this is the best ways to download movies legally by now. There are some websites that provide this service by paying some monthly fees or pay-per-view.

Last but not least, stream movies from legal websites such as network television stations websites and other websites that have the rights to stream. CBS, Fox, NBC, ABC and other channels from United States of American provide their users to download their previously aired episodes.

Conclusion, there are many ways to download either movies or musics legally. Why you wanted to risk your computers by download some digital files illegally ? You should know that the negative effects of illegal download. We must ensure we are free from these Internet Piracy case all the time.

[News] Chinese Internet giants identified as 'notorious markets' for piracy‎

Both of China biggest's search engine, Baidu and China's biggest e-commerce website, Taobao were identified by U.S. Trade Representative as "notorious market" linked to sales of pirated and counterfeit goods.

According to Business Week report, Baidu was link to website that sell item without copyright holder's permission. While, Taobao is being used by outside merchants to sell counterfeit items, with minimal filtering and intervention.

There are more than 30 internet and physical market world wide including those two big Chinese companies is identified by U.S. Trade Representatives as "notorious market" for facilitating the illegal trade of goods and materials protected by copyright patents. Other website like torrentz.com; ThePirateBay, 91.com and Rutracker based in Russia are in part of the list, according to the statement. The U.S. agency said that the list was not a legal finding but to encourage governments to stop them.

In a written statement, an Alibaba spokesman, John Spelich, said:

“We appreciate the USTR’s acknowledgment of our ongoing efforts to work with brand owners in protecting their intellectual property rights and we will continue to work closely with brand owners and others to further enhance the level of trust and integrity in our online marketplaces for the benefit of all our stakeholders.”

China is the leading source of fake and counterfeit goods despite repeated government, with the latest one targeting online piracy to strengthen Internet IPR (Intellectual Property Rights).

U.S. government is trying their best to protect the copyright owner by strengthening their internet law.

Base on last week's poll question, we can see that 38% of our votes were from the answer "No", 37% voted for "Yes" and 25% "Not sure" about the question or the effects of Internet Piracy.

38% of votes were "No" and this is because the side effects are YET to come; yes, the word "yet". There are many heavy consequences that we have already shown for the past few weeks. We may not get in any trouble now because many thanks to cyber rules do not implement completely in some countries. In United States of America, you will be punished heavily when they found out you involved in any internet piracy case.

37% of votes were "Yes" and they experienced the side effects of Internet Piracy before. Of course, side effects of Internet Piracy are not all about being punished by government or internet id banned; it can too, viruses affected the computer. Many website that provide free links to download may have viruses, if the internet user did not have any effective anti-viruses or fire wall, their computer will easily affected and the repair fees for the computer may cost more than that.

25% of votes were "Not sure" and this is because they still not know about their computer very well. I recommended these voters make a security check on their computer to ensure they are not viruses on their computer. Other than that, voter that votes "Not sure" can be a reason that he never involved himself in any suspected website. This kind of voter must be encouraged to continue his hard work so that he can safe from these troublesome cases.

Last week, a poll question on the way you think the most effective to prevent internet piracy was asked. 60% of people voted for ban all file-sharing website, 20% of people voted for enforcing the internet law and another 20% of people voted for filtering illegal distributor related in search engine and 0% of people voted for neither.

It seem that most of the people would think that ban all file-sharing website is the best solution to prevent internet piracy. Banning all file-sharing website should be implement by the ISP in the country. But banning all file-sharing website doesn't really ban all file sharing website, we should only ban those that allow people to illegally file-sharing such as IsoHunt and PirateBay. If people are been block to access to file-sharing website then internet piracy might stop because no people will be able to those website.

Only 20% of people choose both on filtering illegal distributor related in search engine and enforcing internet law. Enforcing the internet law will punish those who did internet piracy; therefore , people who don't want to get fine or jailed will stay away from internet piracy. Filtering illegal distributor related in search engine will prevent the internet user to get any result when they search for any illegal file-sharing website.

Personally, I think that filtering illegal distributor related in search engine in not a very good way to prevent internet piracy. This is because a lot of people already know the file sharing website, they wouldn't need to search in search engine also can access to the website and starting illegal downloading.

Baidu,a famous Chinese searh engine made it to the US Trade Representative’s notorious list of counterfeiting and piracy for both physical and online markets.

“Piracy and counterfeiting undermine the innovation and creativity that is vital to our global competitiveness. These notorious markets not only hurt American workers and businesses, but are threats to entrepreneurs and industries around the world,”said U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk.

Site like Pirate Bay,Allofmp3,and pirated sport site like China-based TV Ants has been in the list as well.Immigrations and Customs Enforcement had to shut down websites that are offering any kind of illegal material with extra effort.

Chairman for the Judiciary Committee,Patrick Leahy , come up with a new online piracy legislation which probably will be enforce by the Senate in the coming months.

“The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been of tremendous help, seizing over 100 U.S.-based rogue websites in the past 10 months alone.

However, today’s Notorious Market list demonstrates that many rogue websites are outside the United States. That is why Congress needs to enact legislation that will authorize the courts to protect our consumers and jobs by cutting off foreign rogue websites from the U.S. market,”said Steve Tepp, senior director for Internet piracy at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Intellectual Property Center.

The new legislation solution has both support and criticism.A compromise can be reached in order to satisfy both sides said by the chairman. The government needed to have more power in order to combat piracy.

In my opinion , i think is very hard to stop internet piracy such as illegal file distribute and online streaming .

[News] The Attitude of Public Towards Internet Piracy.

Over the year, entertainment Industries especially movie and music industry had been making effort to sue and taking down massive file sharing site to educate the user that piracy is wrong and causes real damage. On the whole, it all don't seem to be working particularly right.

Under a study published by Rockwool Foundation Research Unit, questioned participants on morals and ethics, and included discussion on which laws they believe are socially acceptable to break. The Danish study, which ultimately concluded that moral standards are just as high as they were 10 years ago, covered issues such as tax evasion, insurance fraud, the morality gap between men and women and, to the interest of TorrentFreak readers, piracy.

In the piracy section the people were ask to give an answer between the scale from 1 - 10 wherever unauthorized download is an act that can be socially acceptable. The result of the research shows that 7 out of 10 those questioned felt to a greater or lesser degree that is socially acceptable. Around 15-20% of the total group think that it is totally socially acceptable act. A very small amount of people between the 30% voted for the bottom of the scale which is totally unacceptable.

Interestingly, with the anti piracy campaigns showing out none stop, the attitudes of the public don't seem to changed much over the past decade. When a question asked in the 1997 study about wherever is it acceptable to use pirated software, the same proportion of 3-10 people said it was unacceptable.

However, when come to the study on 2010, a question on wherever is it acceptable to download pirated software and sell it to friend to gain profit, 3 out of 4 people said it would be completely unacceptable.

As the results of the study, it shows that it is nearly impossible for copyright holders or anti-piracy groups to change the attitudes of the public in their favor. If they want piracy to decrease, their best bet is probably to focus on lowering the incentives for people to pirate, there seems to be more opportunities in that area.

Based on last week poll result , we can see that a major of people vote reason they illegal download because of "Its free of charge!".Meanwhile 9% is because "More convenience!" and another 9% is because "not sure / dont know whether it was illegal.".There were no voter on "No, I dun ilegal download !".

Based on that , most people think doing illegal download because of its free.
Of course, who dont want free thing ? But have you think of other people hardwork before? How would you feel if someone distribute yours hardwork project that been work for few month or year for free ?

Maybe half of they people download because of the media data or software is overpriced. We can see that nowadays software cost over hundred ringgit or a original of cd album which also cost around 40 to 100 ringgit , depanding on the artist.

9% of the voter choose "More convenience" maybe because they only need 1 of the software from a suit or song from an album rather than buying all of them.
Lastly , the reminder 9% of the voter voted they "Not sure or dont know if its was illegal", well most of the online distributor website that provide free download software , music and video mostly are illegal unless they got the right to distribute or the media data is an open source.

Overall of the result , we can see that people are still illegal downloading many thing from the internet because the cyber law is not strong enough.

By now, you should know that what is internet piracy and what this thing can cause if you still doing it. But, some of you may ask: " Download is normal, we can download anytime, many website provides link to do so, how are we suppose to prevent it? " Well, there are many ways to prevent it.

An important thing to connect an internet user with website that provide illegally download is not all about the website, it is a software name peer-to-peer, as know as p2p. This software connects internet user to others without need for a central point management. Some of its programs do, provide some legal downloads; but of course, most of them are not. And yet, some of these programs may cause the computer system and NU Network in risk.

First thing first, how can I legally download? 1 of the ways is software owners always provide the software to play the multi media files or need a service fee to download and use the multi media files. Most softwares that play digital files is legal, even though some of them are not. Some software have been declared by court as legal like Kazaa, but the software itself doesn't give you legal rights to the content.

You must make sure you're downloading a legal file as well. Those files must be considered as copyrighted content. Once you have a software to play the files, you have to pay or obtain permission to play when using that software. When comes to decide whether they provide a legal multi media file, look for statements that they have obtained the copyright permission of the artists or the companies. If you don't see this information, suspicious the file and send to providers a message and ask whether they have obtain the permission from copyright holder to sell or share the file.

Last but not least, be careful when you're uploading. You must know whether have you infringement the copyright or no although sometime it is hard to aware.

[News] isoHunt was sued by Record Labels, with charge up to 4million!!

isoHunt is once again become a target of the copyrights holders. With no less then 26 major record with one purpose that is to shut down the the popular Canadian file-sharing website. With the claimed compensation up to 4million!!

After the painful fight again the american movie industry, isoHunt may face it's end. IsoHunt founder Gary Fung and it's company was sued by the the record label that include the Sony's "Big Four", EMI, WArner and Universal.

“The isoHunt Websites have been designed and are operated by the defendants with the sole purpose of profiting from rampant copyright infringement which defendants actively encourage, promote, authorize, induce, aid, abet, materially contribute to and commercially profit from,” the court filing reads.

“The defendants and users of the isohunt websites act together, in and part of a file-sharing community, to reproduce and distribute plaintiffs’ sound recordings and other copyright content,”the record labels add.

It is surprising that this massive lawsuit has been filed in May 2010 and yet the news only reach at 16 of February 2011. When the TorrentFreak asked for comments, Gary Fung said that the lawsuit is similar to the one took place in 2008 when isoHunt sued the record in order to defend itself and request the court to legalize their operations.

The court ordered a censorship upon the website search engine based on the list of thousand of keywords provided by the MPAA or the ceasing or the ceasing of any operations in the U.S. The censorship has been applied to all U.S. visitors.

With the censorship is applied, do you think that the Internet Piracy can be stop or reduced?

New York City, the United States largest city and its true media capital is telling citizens that "piracy doesn't work" as part of a new publicly funded antipiracy ad campaign.

This messages is to those New Yorkers citizen that illegally download music and movie without paying. Illegal downloader will "kills jobs" in the city.

The advertisement about the message appear at bus shelters, movie theaters,website and video screens found in taxicabs.

The cost of the campaign is minimal because the its was using the city own resources such as "Ad in bus shelter" and "city-owned public tv" to promote and spread the campaign to New Yorkers.

Illegal file sharing potentially harmed more than 700,000 jobs in the city that connected directly or indirectly to media,according to Oliver's staff.

The idea for the campaign occur to Oliver when the sales of bootleg discs had begun to drop.She learned that street sales of pirated movies were down but illegally file sharing is up.

"I wasn't aware that book publishing was being affected by illegal downloading before," Oliver said. "But I now know as reading digital books becomes more popular to read on different devices, piracy is moving into publishing. I think this is an international problem and we want to raise awareness."

"As far as quantifying the impacts of illegal file sharing, there isn't much credible data and they found flaws with studies done on on piracy's effects.",said Representatives from the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

To me , i think this only will work to some people that work with media or their family or friendly work that connect to media as their concern their jobs will lost.

As we saw, most of the internet users are not fully understand the consequences of illegally download. But past was past, we hope followers can aware of this problem in the future so that we can ensure we will be safe from any internet piracy case.
